We ordered takeout from La Palapa and were really impressed. We tried a variety of tacos, including the al pastor and the carne asada, and everything was flavorful and well prepared. The tortillas held up well for takeout and the meats were tender and nicely seasoned. You can't beat these tacos on a Tuesday for $1.49 a piece. If you can handle the heat then you have to try the habanero sauce. It adds a ton of flavor without just being spicy for the sake of it. Overall, a great option if you're craving solid Mexican food and tacos for takeout. We'll definitely be back to try more from the menu. read more

Only certain tacos are valid for $1.49 Taco Tuesday. It was another good taco place, nothing bad, nothing spectacular. Good enough for $1.49 tacos. But I'm' from Tucson where the tacos and all Mexican food is great. We used to get any kind of taco for Taco Tuesday. And they were terrific tacos. With the exception of Tacos Lopez, all the tacos here are OK, not incredible. Worth checking out, though. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Okay. Wow. Where do I even start. This place did not disappoint!! We arrived and there was only one other couple in the restaurant (how?!?!) It was a very clean space, not a speck on any table or the floor. The decor is so cute and homey and you can tell it was placed with intention. The young man who took our order was so kind. He told us of the daily special and suggested a few best sellers to try. I was on a mission for asada tacos, though. I was hoping for fresh toppings and a good salsa. And that's exactly what I got! We also ordered the Emplumao burrito. It was massive and so tasty. The woman, who I assume is at least a part owner, was absolutely incredible. From the food she made FRESH and TO ORDER to her outstanding customer service, she covered all her bases. She brought out some additional salsas for us to try and by the end of our meal, I was genuinely speechless. They sat behind the counter and spoke with us for some time. They told us some of their story and of their plans to expand the menu soon! While I'd be so satisfied if they never changed a thing, I'm so excited to continue to go back and try the rest! I haven't been to another Mexican place since I first ate here. Raised in Texas and having lived in Utah for 30+ years, I can confidently say this is the best taqueria in the entire state. Bar none. Everything on the menu is made from scratch daily -- this includes the desserts and horchata/jamaica drinks. The staff takes exceptional pride in the freshness as much as the plate presentation, something most places skip over in the name of speed. See my photos for some absolute art that you'll be served. The tacos are overfilled with juicy meat and boatloads of extras and they are accommodating for preferences, in my case mixing chorizo and al pastor meats. Taco today and Thursday has these winners at 99¢ each! Get here early and order a ton of 'em! Prices are very competitive for the large portion size and they offer a delightfully varied menu with nary a heat lamp or prepackaged meal in sight. Fresh only. I'll also raise in a big hand for the pozole soup that I had tonight, chock full of pork chunks and hominy. It comes with a condiment tray with six assorted additions to customize. Slightly spicy and blasting with flavor, it was worth every second of preparation. La Palapa is an independent and locally- and woman-owned business. I don't usually like leaving bad reviews for small businesses but this place sucked. We came here after finding out the other spot we wanted to eat at was closed on Monday and this was the closest spot and looked like it had decent reviews. We went in there around 6pm and the place was dead. The lady taking our order seemed almost irritated that we were there. We ordered a carne asada burrito and a chicken burrito after she told us other things weren't available on the menu. They came out looking fairly decent but both of our meat was completely tough and dried out, they had clearly been in the refrigerator for quite some time. Hungry, I managed to choke mine down but my girlfriend could only get through a few bites. Reading the room we didn't bother complaining or asking to send it back but went to get a to go box so we could feed the burrito to our chickens when we got home. The chef was the only one around and she was hunched over playing on her phone. She seemed really irritated that she had to go get a to go box for us. If the food is a flop but the people are nice I usually let it slide but if you are gonna treat your customers like s#!t and serve them dangerously old food than that's a problem. It's a shame because it's a cool looking spot. Wouldn't recommend. read more

My family has gone to La Palapa on and off for about a month now and it hasn't disappointed each time. The women that run this place are incredibly welcoming, generous, and beyond friendly. It's a smaller restaurant so keep that in mind if you are bringing a larger party. The food is incredibly good. You'll wait longer than fast food as everything is being made from scratch and fresh, but it's served hot and ready to eat when it gets to the table. Food is amazing and tasty. This ladies know how to cook, we ordered Pastor Burrito that was delicious, my husband ordered 3 tacos, beef, pork and chicken, same well gone. Our drink was Cancun juice, it is fresh fruit, all natural. Our experience was 10 stars honestly, we are going to be back for sure, we learned that on weekends they will serve soups. I ordered rice and beans with a tortilla and a horchata in the drive thru at 3:30pm. They were not busy. It took them 10 minutes to give me my order. No napkins, no utensils. The tortilla was dried out and hard. The horchata doesn't taste like horchata at all, it's very watery. Meh. Probably won't return. read more

She brought us extra sauces to try as well warm chips and salsa and refried beans for an appetizer (no cost,) and the food was seriously scrumptious. I just tried this taqueria and wowza! It's so good! I was not able to dine in, but got my order take out. They were fast for cooking our order fresh, and gave us spicy carrots and jalapeños! Their mild salsa was very good, but their hot sauce is to die for! I'm guessing it's habanero so go easy! it's easily the hottest sauce I've had at a taco shop in all of Utah! The Fish Tacos were fresh grilled, and my Al Pastor/ Pork Tacos were so delicious! Prices were very reasonable! Definitely my new favorite spot for tacos and love that it's local here in Murray! Sitting in the restaurant as I type. 1) While placing our order we were told they had no rice. 2) We were here for an hour and were told our order had been lost. This is a very, very small restaurant. Not sure how it could get lost. He retook our order and said it would be expedited. We continued to wait at least another 30 minutes. While we were waiting, they were filling the drive up orders. 3) The food was ok. The chicken was tender, but bland. The Gordita only had meat on one side. The portion of beans was very small. We asked for more and that took another 20 minutes. We have heard them ask 2 other tables what they ordered. We were just getting ready to leave when they finally brought our food to our table. 4) We told him at the beginning we were paying separately, we finally walked up to the counter rather than wait any longer for our bills. This is a Tuesday night. I can't imagine what a weekend night would be like. Won't be back. Unless they fix some stuff, they aren't going to last. read more
