Don't come here if you expect decent service. When we arrived, no one greeted or seated us, so we ended up seating ourselves after waiting about five minutes. It then took another 20 minutes for someone to come to our table just to bring water. Even though I was ready to order, the server walked away and acted like they didn't want to be there. To make matters worse, they gave my best friend the wrong drink, then rudely snatched it out of her hands to replace it. The entire experience was unprofessional and frustrating. It's painful to have to write this, but what is more painful is that I feel that I can no longer eat at what was my favorite restaurant of any kind, anywhere. Durango had a tragic fire just weeks before the covid lockdowns, and was understandably not reopened for over a year. When it reopened, it was a joyful thing. It stayed that way until about a year ago, when the chips they brought to the table had obviously been fried in oil that had gone rancid. This happened several more times. Most weeks, it was great, but too often the chips were "off." I did a very unusual thing. Since complaining to the servers seemed to have no effect, I mailed an anonymous snail mail to the owner, making clear that when everything was right, their food was spectacular, but that too often there was rancid oil being used. Maybe they'd switched to lower quality oil that went rancid more quickly, or maybe the kitchen had stopped changing the oil as often as they should have. It seemed to have gotten better for a while, but backslid, and now I won't eat there anymore, and I advise others to not eat there because you never know when the chips are going to be rancid. There have also been a few occasions where the salsas had gone off. I don't know what the cause of this drastic decline in food quality control, but whatever the changes in the kitchen since last Spring, whoever is running that kitchen is destroying the place. I've eaten there hundreds of times, and until about a year ago, it was always spectacular. I have friends and family members who have also stopped eating there because of the rancid oil issue. I've worked on and off in retail for my whole life, and can tell you this. For every customer who goes to the trouble of complaining, there are dozens more who quietly take their business elsewhere. read more

My sister and I had such a great time for Taco Tuesday. We both enjoyed a large Cadillac Margarita and the Birria Tacos and they were so good. I can't wait to visit again. Taqueria Durango is located off Page Boulevard in the Overland area, within a strip mall where the family owns this restaurant along with a store and other businesses in their self-named plaza. Parking is shared with these businesses, so be mindful. Upon entering, you can seat yourself anywhere you see fit, and each table is numbered. Not long after we sat down, chips and two dipping bowls (one for me and one for my beau) were brought out, along with three types of bottled homemade salsas with increasing degrees of spice. He ordered the Doble Doble (2 enchiladas and 2 taquitos) that also came with beans and rice. I ordered quesa birria tacos, which did not come with sides. They pride themselves on authentic Mexican food, and authentic it was. Each bite burst with flavor and love. The fajitas at a neighboring table came out sizzling. My beau's plate came out before mine, and mine followed his maybe 7 minutes later. Be mindful that the plates do not come out all at once, but it is so worth the wait. I also ordered a strawberry fresca agua, which I will admit was a bit light in flavor compared to another spot I went to recently, but their food is on point and very reasonably priced. It's no wonder my beau enjoyed going there with his dad as a kid, and that they have maintained their business and more, even since my last time there. I'll first say that we have been coming here for years and never had as bad of service as we did tonight. The server could care less that we were there, and we were the only table in there. My Cadillac margarita tasted like a Coca Cola, one taco came out before our watery cheese dip, which we had to remind the server for along with my husbands bottle of cola. Our usual meals did not taste the same. Mine had no flavor and my rice and beans were cold. The quality has gone done in many ways and it was not worth the $70 we spent. First time here and very impressed in how clean and well lit this restaurant was. Service is very attentive and helpful. Chips were warm and fresh and they bring you 3 different salsas, mild, spicy and one I didn't try. I had the Choripollo, grilled chicken smothered in cheese , grilled onions and peppers and Chorizo plus rice , beans and salad. We took the kids here this past weekend. It has been a while back since I last went here. I like the green salsa here a lot. I got the beef tongue sandwich. The tongue meat is very soft and tastes like other beef to me, with a little stronger taste though. The portion sizes are large. We all a different entree each with plenty of food leftovers. I LOVE searching the area I find myself for a restaurant, I get to explore new places and find great hidden gems like Taqueria Durango. A small building off Page in Overland, no marque with their name. Has a grocery store (Durango) next door that does have a sign. I opted for the Queso Birria Burrito. I was going to order the Birria tacos, but decided since I had not eaten since a hurried lunch at noon, that the burrito with all the same things would be more filling. It even comes with a side of birria broth. Liz went for the Camarones a la Diabla, our waiter asked about five times if she was sure because it was spicy. After assuring him it was ok, he let her order. I commandeered a few of her shrimp, it was very good with great flavor. I would recommend both dishes as options if visiting Taqueria. They have a small bar available with drinks to be served. Diner Vibe decore. Friendly staff. Knowing some Spanish is a plus, but not required. I came across this place by chance. I searched in Yelp for crunchy tacos and this place came up. Coincidentally it wasn't far from me so I wanted to give it a try. I grew up in Ca and have lived in St Louis for 3 years. I'm particular about my Mexican food. This place didn't disappoint at all. The birria meat was so tender and flavorful. It was not dry at all. Outstanding meal tonight at Durango - our first experience here. We loved the chip and three salsas - all three were excellent flavor with escalating spice levels. For dinner, I ordered the Barbacoa platter which came with beautiful rice and beans and a finely chopped onion and cilantro mix. Nearly a decade ago I picked up my husband from work and there was a deluge of rain bringing highway traffic to a stop. Instead of sitting in traffic for two hours, I turned to Yelp to see what was nearby. Taqueria Durango was a mile away and very highly rated. We took a chance and went there. It's been a favorite since then. Like tv host Samantha Brown says, some of the best food is found in a strip mall. Taqueria Durango exemplifies the veracity of that statement. Salsa and chips are made in house. There are three kinds of salsa in handy squeeze bottles. The chips are warm. Margaritas are good. They are not overly sweet. They have a wide variety of Jarritos. They have both Mexican bottled Coke and fountain soda. The food options are plentiful. There is something for everyone. I've taken very picky friends with very basic preferences there and they loved it and there are options like tripe for the adventurous. I am more adventurous, but not tripe-adventurous. I recommend the fajitas or enchiladas (cheese with green sauce) or street tacos but everything I have had is delicious. Everything is fresh. The refried beans look basic, but try them. They are delicious. Best of all is the people. It is family owned and it shows in the quality and care taken. The ambience is casual, but it was entirely renovated after a fire a few years ago. Mexican shows are on the television. It's clean and comfortable. This is one of my go-to favorites. I have taken many people (work, friends, family) there and everyone has loved it. read more

I just came for drinks and chips and salsa so I can't attest to their food but the mild salsa was good but the other 2 were too spicy for my liking but I'd imagine you'd like it if you like spicy salsa. They bring 3 squirt bottles over instead of how it is at most Mexican restaurants. The chips were so weird, they honestly tasted like cardboard even after getting a refill. I always enjoy going to Durangos. It is cheap, good, and has a lot of options! My go to are the carne asada tacos. They are simple yet delicious. I hadn't been back since before the renovation, and they definitely have a new vibe with a cool bar area. It looks awesome. That night, the place was packed. There was no empty table which means it definitely is worth your time checking out. The waitress did a wonderful job covering the entire floor and our food came out fast and hot. This time around I decided to order three different types of tacos alongside the carne asada...the chicken, and al pastor (pork). The chicken was probably the most basic and less flavorful but definitely good with the salsa and a lime squeeze added to it. Al pastor has become a new favorite taco and it was good! Definitely a new go -to taco. They also give you complimentary chips and salsa with three different salsas: the spicy, mild and salsa Verde. It took a while for my party of two to be seated, and it looked like some (presumably) regulars who arrived after us just seated themselves and were waited on much faster. Plan accordingly. Service was very friendly when they were eventually able to get to us. I ordered the torta ahogada, and it was great - the carnitas had a nice crispiness, the inside of the bread was nicely toasted and buttery, and the red sauce had a nice flavor (although wasn't at all spicy, IMO). Taqueria Durango recently reopened and has been one of the Latino restaurants I've been looking forward to trying in the STL area. Located in a small shopping plaza on Page Avenue, Taqueria Durango's remodel can accommodate small, medium and large groups. They do have bar seating if you're interested in having a few margaritas while watching sports on the large TVs during happy hour. Taqueria and booths/tables were clean and serviced immediately after patrons finished their meals. I do want to share we do enjoy traditional Latino dishes there that are spicy and what we ordered did come with a level of heat most people may shy away from. We specifically visited the Taqueria on a weekend morning to try menudo, a traditional soup served only on weekends. We were immediately served chips and salsa (2 salsas) upon our seating which were flavorful and spicy. The menu has a variety of basic Latino dishes, but have traditional dishes you don't usually see. We started our meal with Tacos de Birria , which was served with consommé and both tacos were very hearty. We also ordered the Burrito Mojado con barbacoa meat, and also very hearty on meat and not overly stuffed with rice and beans. Salsa Roja that came with the burrito was full of flavor and a level of heat. Final dish was Menudo served with hot tortillas and all the traditional trimmings. Soup and tripe was perfectly cooked, seasoned and in my opinion the best Menudo in the greater STL area. I do want to mention all dishes were reasonably priced and healthy portions. Service was very attentive and checked on us as we would have expected. The Taqueria was getting busy after our arrival, but was fully staffed to handle the rush of patrons. Taqueria Durango is the restaurant to beat for traditional and authentic Latino dishes in the STL vicinity hands down! We were pleasantly surprised and this hidden gem and is now our go to spot. Unassuming from the outside and connected to a Mexican grocery, this family run Mexican joint is a hidden gem! Great street tacos, great prices, amazing service! 3 Salas on the table with fresh and free chips. They have a full bar as well and saw a few people with frozen strawberry margaritas! My co-worker put me in know, and we stopped in for lunch. Apparently it was listed in St. Louis Post-Dispatch top 100 restaurants of 2022.
