Seen a video on Facebook on a molcajete that looked amazing so I had to venture back to my old neighborhood to try it for myself . The molcajete is not on the menu so you have to ask for it . Molcajete El Guero ****** Steak and chicken fajita mix with peppers and onions with a great sauce served in a molcajete is by far 1 of the best dishes I have tried . The chicken and steak was well seasoned and soft pairs perfectly with the salsa verde . This dish comes with rice and beans and a salad and quesadillas. Be aware that this dish is enough for 4 to 5 people so expect to have leftovers . I judge places by how good the coffee is and I was impressed by how good it was had a hint of cinnamon that made it feel like I made it at home . I will not rate this place a 1 simply because there were some things out of their control. I made my order through yelp directly and only after I paid did it say it would be about a 40 minute wait. That is not the restaurant's fault but yelp's fault. I'm nice I got there to pick up my order there were 3 people in front of me. I waited 30 minutes before giving up and just going to the counter. They took 1 customer every 10 minutes it felt like. By the time I got my food it was cold so I can't really rate how it tasted. The steak taco was good having been cold, very seasoned. The chicken taco I didn't enjoy, it was filled with onions after I'd asked for no onions, it was dry and not very seasoned. To note on the wait, I made the mistake of going after school had let out and it was full of teenagers. There was 2 girl at the desk taking orders, answering the phones, and handing out orders. I probably should create another entry for this business, because it has changed its focus. It is no longer a supermercado; it is now a licoreria! I don't particularly have a problem with that, but it's good to know what you're in for. With that being said, I come here for the taqueria housed inside. They've spruced it up a bit, but we don't come to taquerias for ambiance, do we? No! El Guero serves up some tasty traditional tacos, good tortas, great gorditas, good-sized burritos, and delicious guacamole and pico de gallo! I get so excited about gorditas, because it's not often that you find them on the menu--especially freshly-made in-house. They aren't stingy with the filling, and will customize however you like (within reason, of course). The prices have gone up slightly since the re-do, but I'm not complaining. As long as they continue to make good, quality, fresh food, I'll continue to partake. They also serve fresh horchata, jamaica, and rotating agua frescas, but I've never tried them. Maybe next time! Love their tacos! I've tried them all, they're a hit! The guacamole is a solid winner too and made fresh to order. I love the agua frescas as well. My fave is the strawberry limonade, but my friend is obsessed with the cucumber water. I've dined in before and the customer service representative s great! This is my go to for tacos in this area! Oh and on Wednesdays they offer 99¢ tacos, I believe all meats are included, they just put a little less meat than normal. If your not Mexican you will not receive a warm greeting even if you give one. Had a taste for tacos, looked up places in my area, and this place popped up. Was skeptical because it's located inside/adjacent to a store. I didn't really look around because I was focused on food. I should've turned around upon entry because of a foul smell. Kept walking and discovered the restaurant. This is my 1st time coming here I came to get a few things for a gift bag. The sign says it was supposed to open at 10:00 am. Me, my friend and 2 more people were standing outside to go in....The gentle came out open the gate took the fellow Mexican that was standing outside and left me, my friend and another black woman outside. If you do this, I'd suggest you eat there because the food doesn't travel too well in the aluminum foil it gets wrapped. Now, on to the food! The meat is just plain delicious, no matter what you get. Personally, I'm more of a fan of carne asada and theirs stands above the rest that I've tasted throughout the city. They have a decent variety of meat, which is good so you don't get overwhelmed with too many options. You can get carne asada, al pastor, chicken, chorizo and a few others. To drink, they have your typical canned pop as well as bottles, as well as water. But, if you really want to enjoy your food, you simply cannot skip out on the agauas frescas! Delicious! I visited from Tucson AZ and am used to Sonoran style food. This place was awesome. I loved the way the carne asada was so finely chopped and well seasoned. I had a taco and a gordita and wanted to try the chicharron and adobada but was too full. I liked the sour cream, and although we use cabbage and not lettuce, it was a good combination. The Agua de Melon could have been a little sweeter but I will definitely eat here again when I am in the area. read more
