This is my go too spot when I'm in Hayward. Love the owner, she's so sweet and welcoming. Why I keep coming back, mine the food is delicious. They have taco Tuesday and Thursday's ( $1.75) ea. This place is so underrated! I live in the South Bay but my parents still live in Hayward. My mom has been raving about this place for a while, so my husband and I finally tried it out about a month ago. Since then, we have been back multiple times. Whenever I am visiting my parents I cannot head back home without picking us up burritos from El Jarocho! The portions are huge and yet so affordable compared to other taquerias, especially the ones near us (San Jose). Mondays they have $8 regular burritos and of course have their $1.75 Taco Tuesdays. The tortilla for their burritos is thin and always perfectly toasted - just the way I like it because I hate it when I'm eating burrito and each bite is half tortilla. They also pack the burritos with more meat than rice and beans making it more bang for your buck! And the meat?! So flavorful! I did a taco Tuesday tour and they were on my list to try. $1.75 plus tax such a great deal! Meat is very flavorful my only issue is you can tell the tortillas are precooked and sat aside until someone orders and it gives the tough texture and edges that are hard to eat. Also they didn't ask if I wanted spicy salsa on top and it's very spicy! 7/10 The service was great she was very nice and welcoming and the restaurant was clean and smelled amazing with the aroma of freshly cooked meat!! Apparently I'm el Gordo!? my mother suffers from advanced Alzheimer's, but at time she has moments of clarity and knows exactly what she wants so I try to make her happy as possible for dinner today on the drive home she decided she wanted a burrito. I remembered this place has a burrito special on Monday so I figured why not give me a shot. I've only come here during the morning hours. I've never had any issues with customer service. It's always been a pleasant surprise to find a great value at the price point they offer. However, the service could literally be more of the night and day between that morning hours and evening. I have pre-ordered over the phone as to go. I asked for salsa on the side when we got to the restaurant I came to pay and mentioned to the cashier that we were going to there instead, the response I got was that the order was already made but I could eat inside if I wanted to. We were handed a plastic bag with both burritos inside that's it. I took a bag to my mother at the table and told her if she wanted to get started go ahead I went back and asked for a tray I had to go back and ask for a knife for some reason he thought I meant like a kitchen knife. I was fine with just a plastic knife as I had asked for them to be cut in half but apparently that request was not heard. I had to go back a 3rd time and ask for salsa. I'm not a fan of their red or green salsa, there's a 3rd option which apparently is the one they give out with their chips, news to me but and then was told I would have to pay for it??? I've never paid for salsa at this location and I've always gotten the same kind. I just spent $21 a change on two burritos and was going to be nickel and dime'd for salsa? Anyways, by the time I got back to the table, my burrito is cold... on the way home. My mother couldn't find her glass or the case they go into. I went back to the restaurant to check the table and ask the staff if anyone turned anything in the cashier was in the back prepping in the kitchen, and when they asked if you found anything you said oh, you mean for the Gordo. I mean, I can't lie. I am definitely overweight, but whereas I can go on a diet exercise and get back into shape, this dude will always be stuck with a melon head y una cara de perro feo! Hayward has plenty of other options for Mexican food so unfortunately for this place, they've gone back down to the bottom of the list. read more

Literally the worst shrimp cocktail I've ever had in my life and I eat them all the time. First of all, why would there be hella shells?!? Tacos were a little on the small side and we asked for the onions and cilantro on the side for the 7 or 8 tacos that we ordered, but got home to find out it had been left out..... I'm not driving back for cilantro and onions. That was sort of annoying. They have a taco tuesday deal. Double check, but I think they are $1.50 for the regular meats (Carnitas, Carne Asada, Chicken, etc.). Seafood and lengua are not included. Inside is bare bones and has no ambiance. It takes a little bit to get your food, I think they cook all orders one by one to order. I'm curious how their burritos are and might go back to try one. They are located in a very small strip mall, if you blink you might miss them. They took over the spot that used to be a pizza restaurant. I always order the standard taco, because whenever your on the move.. traveling here and there sometimes you need a fast bite! a bite that you can eat on the run... that would be tacos/burritos. They are within the required Covid guidelines here so of course all the employees have the gloves and mask on.... Service is fast but please understand me on this. The food is made fresh, so there is a lil wait time for fresh fast food, compared to preparpared food that is not fresh. The food is made with love, and try the mild green salsa.... it has a nice flavor.... different from anything I had before. .The food is very fresh, now I have no problems waiting a few extra minutes for good fresh food. I ordered the chilaquiles with egg, and when it was brought out to me, it looked like the saddest plate of chilaquiles I've ever seen. The tortilla chips were super mushy and dry. No sauce at all. Just a pile of soggy flavorless chips with 2 overcooked eggs on top. How hard is it to cook an egg? My bf ordered the chorizo burrito and it was the nastiest burrito I've ever tasted. Mushy, greasy, and unseasoned chorizo filled the flour tortilla, that eventually fell apart because it was so greasy. Its rare that we dont finish our food when eating out, but it was so bad here that we basically flushed 30+ dollars down the drain, because that food went straight to the trash. Let me tell you if you not Mexican or Latino or don't look Latino they treat you differently and acts a certain way to people depends if they think they can bully you around or disrespect you. While I thought the food here was pretty good, and better than anything you can find in Fremont. I didn't think it was 5 star. We tried chicken verde enchiladas my dad didn't like them. I'm going to override his vote (he doesn't like anything anymore) I tasted the sauce and it was good, my daughter had the quesadilla plate and liked it, she wanted huevos rancheros but didn't like the picture on the menu. I had chili relleno and it was ok. I will say all the plates were somewhat skimpy, not enough rice&beans. The Chips & salsa was good we all agreed, the salsa looks different, but don't let that scare you, it's yummy! Like others have said the woman at the counter was very nice and helpful. So we went here on a Taco Tuesday. Attempted to place a large order of tacos. We sent our son to place the order and the cashier was rude to him the entire time. My son had 6 different orders, we sent each order via text because teens these days do better with a texted list instead of a written or verbal one. Our kid isn't dumb, he 15 and pretty smart for his age so we were confident in sending him to place the order. After each order was given to the cashier, he kept asking her if she had the order and she would only nod dismissing his question at the end of each order. When we got our order we had 8 tacos al pastor missing so we called and they blamed their mess up on our son instead of taking responsibility for their error. I think that scenario there speaks of the type of establishment this place is, employees are not held accountable when they make mistakes and cost the owner money. As for the food, the carne asada was fatty and flavorless. The al pastor takes we did get were also not great, the meat was dry. The tortillas the tacos came on were stiff and cold as was the rest of the food. Needless to say we won't be going back. Taco Tuesday was ruined that day. read more

Just left Taqueria El Jarocho and the food was pretty good. They brought chips and salsa to the table. Salsa was good just needed a little salt. We had tacos, sopes and enchiladas and all were delicious. I have been searching for a good taco place and I found it!!! I hope the quality doesn't change after a while... The tacos had a good amount of meat, salsa was great and the tortilla was soft and crunchy at the same time (my favorite)! Sopes and enchiladas were good too. It doesn't look like much when you walk by, but that's because it's a big place and that doesn't help it to look busy. I didn't have great expectations on this place, but I was surprised when I tried their red chilaquiles; so far one of the best chilaquiles in Hayward. The birria is good too, but what I like the most is their homemade tortillas when I eat their chile relleno dish. I haven tried the whole menu, but these three dishes made it for me.
