    Chicken and waffles
    Isabelle V.

This review is long overdue, as I've been coming here since 2015 and it has consistently remained a local favorite for a breakfast that never misses. The staff is always very friendly, the food is solid, and the prices are fair, typically ranging from $9 to $18 per plate. On my most recent visit, we had the chicken and waffles, loco moco, and beignets. While the vanilla beignets are my personal favorite and the chicken was perfectly crispy, the real stars of the show were the waffles--they were incredibly crispy, sweet, and soft.

Don't be surprised if there's a line waiting to get in. Very popular among the locals but they offer something for everyone. The food is fresh and served quickly. A relaxing interior feels cozy. From basic breakfast to specialty dishes you can't go wrong.

People say that it's a hidden gem, which is quite true because it's hard to find the location of the spot and not many people seem to know this place unless they tell their friends about it. The place looks really small, crowded, and decorative inside but if you walk more towards the back, there's probably more seatings. I honestly expect this place to be packed where I have to wait for more than 20 minutes, but again, it doesn't really seem to receive a lot of attention. Honestly, the food is good and portion size is neither too small nor big. Usually, some restaurants serve bigger portions. At least I didn't get full though and save my stomach for lunch. I was quite surprised when the pancake combo is $11 ($9 before 9am) while three-stack is $12.50. Price is quite reasonable due to portion size. The issue is when I needed my change after paying for the meal. I guess that either the staff forgot about it or some miscommunication. Not sure though, but they seem to be very busy, which I understand. I was expecting them to get it as soon as I pay for it, but went straight to doing other tasks.

You really can't go wrong starting with some warm beignets, soo good! I had the crab cake Benedict, and as a bit of a Benedict connoisseur, I loved it. It was delicious! I also love that you have the option of either a side of rice or potatoes. I opted for the potatoes this time. It had been years since we last ate here, but we'll definitely be back much sooner this time.

This used to be my goto breakfast place back when I lived in the Bay. The staff is always very nice and accommodating. Giving out recommendations and small talk. My favorite goto items is the chicken and waffles and their Beef Korean Bowl. The korean bowl comes with veggies, rice and rhe meat. They also give you their own type of bibimbap sauce. Which gives a whole other level of flavors. Also, their serving sizes are good and fillings. Today I tried their chocolate beignets for the first time. And they were pretty good. But I think next time I'll stick to the Vanilla flavor.

This place is a Union City staple. Known for their Beignets and them being small business has helped it uped its traffic. I think place is nice, small but a great breakfast place. Priced are good compared to other places. Ambiance is feels cozy like they put their personality into it. What I got : Eggs Benedict 4/5 Beignets : 4/5 Garlic fries 5/5 Chicken and Waffles 4/5 Eggs Benedict has 2 muffins, 3 eggs, and 3 Canadian Bacon, served with potatoes. I thought it was good but I felt like the potatoes could of been more crispy Beignets were nice but felt like they could of been more fluffy. We did it with a drizzle with both chocolate sauce and vanilla sauce. Garlic fries were really good, lots of garlic and nice and crispy My friend got the chicken and Waffles. Both were nice and crispy.

Such a gem of a small, family-run business! My husband and I stopped by Break Your Fast on a whim while exploring new local spots, and we're so glad we did. The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming, and you can tell they put a lot of care into what they do. While the beignets weren't quite the traditional fluffy style I expected--they leaned more biscuit-like in texture--they were still tasty. If you try them, definitely go for the homemade vanilla sauce--it's rich, creamy, and pulls it all together. My favorite, though, was the fruit cup. I'm usually not into melon-heavy mixes, so I was thrilled to see one full of fresh berries instead. It was refreshing and felt like a step above your typical fruit side. If you're looking to support a passionate local team and enjoy some creative, comforting breakfast bites, Break Your Fast is absolutely worth the visit.

    *New Item!* Loco Moco

We came in on Sunday and were given our choice of seating. The waitress was really kind and welcoming. Immediately took our drink orders and let us look over the menu. Unfortunately the second waitress wasn't as kind or welcoming. She seemed impatient and a bit dismissive of us despite there being no other patrons. We ordered a loco moco, garlic fries, chicken & waffles and a side of kimchi. The garlic fries were super oily but had a lot of garlic on it and were crispy. The loco moco was really disappointing with the small patty and white gravy??? Loco moco in my opinion can not be served without brown gravy. I did put a piece of kimchi with every bite just to help hide the lack of flavor in the gravy and texture and it was perfect. Kimchi is for sure authentic Korean kimchi, perfectly sour and crunchy. The chicken and waffles really left little to the imagination. Chicken was like a katsu cutlet, dry, overcooked and a bit lacking. The waffles were small and only crispy. Weren't very fluffy inside and overall the meal was dry without the maple syrup. We were maybe half way to a 3 quarters way through our meal when we were a bit abruptly brought our check. At this point there's only 1 other table with customers and we were at a 3 star review trajectory. The middle aged Korean woman who we hadn't seen at all during our meal checked in on us then just dropped the check while we were happily eating and chatting. Out of the 3 staff members we encountered, 1 was absolutely perfect and polite and nice. The other 2 were really working against the team with the lacking service and premature check delivery. I would've come back until that happened. There's better breakfast spots in union city, Fremont and Newark area.

I had the country breakfast! It was very tasty!

Door dashed breakfast from here and it is still a really good place! I got my usual veggie eggs benedict and it was exactly how good I remembered it! I liked that they put the sauce on the side since it was togo so it didn't get soggy. My husband got the hot link breakfast plate and a side of chili beans and made a chili bean hot link scramble lol, he loved it! Portions are good and prices are cheaper then most breakfast places! Great food!

Break Your Fast is one of my favorite places for brunch in all of the East Bay. The food never disappoints and it's remained just as delicious as when I first had it years ago. The staff are also friendly and accommodating. If I could suggest anything savory it would definitely be their Krabbycake Benedict and for something sweet it would be their beignets (that come in 5 per order).

The restaurant itself is in a nice plaza with plenty of parking, the restaurant is clean and looks like they had bar seating as well. On their special menu they had their strawberry matcha which I'm already a fan of, but this strawberry matcha is my favorite in all the area so far. The avocado toast was also very good, the red onion on top paired well with the avocado and cherry tomato, the fact it came with 2 eggs as well also justifies it as a meal in itself. I also ordered the half order or at this restaurant "fun" size I think Is what it said on the menu, of the tres leches French toast. It's also my favorite French toast because it's not overly sweet like some other tres leches' that I've had, the strawberries tasted very fresh too. The side sausage and bacon were good also however, the side link sausage it's not as greasy or salty as other places which I enjoyed a lot, because although it seems like hearty food it didn't feel heavy at all. Hope that Breeze Cafe stays around, bring everyone here. TLDR; awesome food, great service, try the strawberry matcha, and tres leches French toast

I've come here twice and both times were a different experience…read more The first time I came here with a few friends, we didn't have any issues. We didn't wait that long, maybe 10 minutes? It was also memorial Day weekend. And our server was really nice and food came out pretty quick. The second time I came here, my experience was completely different. We were put on the wait list which was almost a 30-minute wait. It was pretty busy that day, Sunday around brunch. We were seated in a table where one side is a booth and the other side is a chair, but you can tell that they just wanted to cram as many tables as they could in the restaurant. The spacing in between the tables to our sides was so small, we had to physically move our table just to get in and out of the booth. And we did the same thing when other tables were getting out of the booth. It was also really loud in there. We didn't really like it since we were there to have a nice, chill brunch. We could barely hear each other talking. The service was really slow and it was hard to flag down our server. The food was good and reasonably priced, but the space and ambiance wasn't what we hoped it would be. Another downside is the parking lot. There are so many shops in one small plaza, they didn't plan enough parking spaces for customers. We noticed people having to park in the plaza next door, which I wasn't sure if we were allowed to do. So we just had to drive around the plaza and find whatever spot we could. After being there twice, I don't think I would eat at the restaurant again. I would maybe order to go, but since we don't live in the area it's not likely we would drive all the way there to pick up food.

We all ordered shwarma plates except my husband who ordered a wrap. The shwarma plate was very nice - it came with a small salad, rice, and shwarma. I like that they provided garlic sauce, salad vinaigrette, and your choice of cilantro or harissa sauce. I tried all of them and they were all good. For Filipinos, actually, this fits the palate very well - there is seasoned meat with rice. What else do you need in life? The salad is just a healthy bonus. My husband really enjoyed his wrap and he'd be interested in returning. The wrap used a flour tortilla...but the filling was very good. Even my parents who don't like to venture too far from Filipino-American food were interested in returning, especially because the location is nearby Popeye and Seafood City. Luckily there was no line at 8:30 in the morning on a Saturday. Rating Breakdown: 1/2 Stars for Taste -- The menu is HUGE and it was difficult to pick just one thing to order. I ended up choosing the Tio Pancho because I can never resist biscuits and gravy. The scramble itself was good, I'm a big fan of their chorizo as it's not overpoweringly sour/tangy like some other places. It was also mild enough that my kids were able to try a little. I opted for the hash browns which added a nice crispiness into the mix. I would actually skip the biscuits and gravy next time -- the biscuits are on the cake-y side and the gravy is a bit bland. My husband ordered the Mexican chicken fried steak. The steak itself was also bland, but it was fine paired with the chorizo and sauce on top. Their hashbrowns are crispy on the outside but made thick with a more mushy inside, not our favorite. My husband's sunny side eggs were also a bit underdone, the egg whites were still runny. We were both fans of the salsa that came on the side. For the kiddos, we got one pancake. We're glad we only got one because it was literally the same size as the dinner plate it came on. It was super fluffy and thiccccc, just how I love it. It was also not too sweet by itself so I felt less bad about giving it to the kiddos. I would say the dishes are served "rustic", it's not the most instagrammable if that matters to you, but it is a mountain of food and a veritable feast. 1/1 Stars for Value -- It's about $20 per entree and the serving sizes are humongous. Definitely enough to share or take home as leftovers. Coffee was $4 but it was actually good coffee, not the watery stuff diners sometimes serve. It only cost $3.95 to upgrade the side of toast to a pancake, which is a steal...I mean, why wouldn't you do it? 1/1 Stars for Customer Service -- The food came out unbelievably quickly. We literally said "That can't be it" when we saw them bringing it over. This place is optimized for efficiency -- everything from seating, serving, coffee refills, to bringing the bill was streamlined yet not rushed. Bonus star because we would come back when we are craving brunch. We would come early to avoid the lines.

step foot in country way and you'll have your patriotism (or any remainder of it after the past…read moreyear) tested. it reeks of cigarettes and buttcheeks and the dishes presented look like all american slop. does it taste good? no! but in some ways you'll rediscover your love of america right in this little establishment. it's the place of memories, whether you want to reminisce or create new ones. this is the place you go when you're hungover, or when you're a broke teenager looking for a place to loiter with your massive friend group (there's only two girls, you have a crush on one of them, she's probably gay), or when you come back from a trip abroad in a country that does not have enough grease in their local cooking. you come to celebrate your 95 year old grandma's birthday (by the way she doesn't remember your name), and to go out with your football team (apparently your team has done well this season; coach naively offers to treat, so everyone except coach orders three dishes each and complains of hunger an hour after eating), and to meet up with random friends of your parents (you didn't even know they existed, and they spend an hour commenting on the following: your height, love life, and college applications). either way you want some cheap, easy, horrible food. you choke down your dish that's got oil puddles on the side and mysterious radioactive sauces because the portions are huge and binge eating is nigh. you save half, or a quarter, or maybe none of your dish for later, knowing that you will most definitely forget about the leftovers and trash them when they turn moldy. this is a true diner - arguably one of the most waffle house-esque establishments in fremont, and thus a quintessential american experience. you have to live it to understand it all: the questionably quick service, the servers stacking full plates on one arm, the pile of smuckers jam on every table, the chattering in multiple languages, and most importantly the trashy food. so would i encourage you to come here? ideally not at all! you will be disappointed beyond measure. but if you're like me and disillusioned with your american-ness you can come here and renew your patriotism. 3 stars for the experience.
