Hands Down the Best Molcajete! If you are looking for authentic, flavor-packed Mexican food, look no further. We ordered a spread of dishes, and honestly, every single one was a hit. The stars of the show were definitely the Molcajetes. We tried both the Seafood Molcajete and the Carne Asada Molcajete, and they were incredible. The heat from the stone kept everything bubbling and delicious until the last bite--easily the best molcajete I've ever had. A few other highlights: * The Octopus: I have to give a special shoutout to the octopus. It was perfectly cooked and hands down the best I've ever tasted. * Grilled Chicken Plate: Even the more standard dishes are elevated here. Hubs and I drove over the mountain to devour tacos and burritos at our normal spot but decided to try a new place: Taqueria El Timon. The restaurant is rather small with five tables inside and several outside. Order taking was fast and pleasant. We ordered a super burrito, asada taco, crispy chicken taco and baby bean/rice burrito. We had high expectations due to the five star reviews. Sorry, we won't be coming back. The asada taco was ok, meat flavorful. I expected the crispy chicken taco to be fried and dripping with oil. It was a tortilla that was previously fried and cold along with the chicken. The burritos were flavorless with store bought tortillas and the rice was horrible. It's not the traditional Mexican rice with tomato but seemed to be saffron, yellow and have sour taste. The best part of our dining experience: chip bar. read more

I decided to try this new taqueria and had high hopes based off of reviews but sad to say it wasn't that great. I'm not sure if they make their own flour tortillas for their burritos? If so they completely overpower the burrito. The flour tortilla is a bit on the thicker side and very gummy. It's also sweet for some reason which wasn't appetizing at all. The meat is chewy and had a lot of fat chunks. This place definitely has potential if they change their tortillas. I couldn't even finish it:/ The inside of the taqueria is normal, people were just sitting down enjoying their meals. Their drinks are overpriced but are decent. Their salsas lack in flavor and spice. This place is a bit hidden/small and parking isn't that great either. Overall the person who took my order was kind and friendly so no issues there. A friend and I stayed in the area this past weekend, so we ordered pick-up from here. They made me the best carne asada burrito I've ever had! It was juicy. And great flavors from beginning to end. I decided to try them again the next morning for breakfast. This time I ordered the chilaquiles con asada with read sauce. Sadly, I was very disappointed. After having a great food experience the day before. My carne was dry, and bland. And my chilaquiles was soggy. I've visited this taqueria a few times, but the service has consistently been disappointing. On my most recent visit, it took nearly 50 minutes to prepare a carne asada plate and one burrito. What made it especially frustrating was watching multiple orders placed after ours get served first. We eventually asked for the food to go. I've been so excited to try this new taqueria and it didn't disappoint! The staff is so friendly and welcoming and the most important part is they got my order right which proves to be hard for some other taquerias. The burrito was great, I got a baby burrito with just black beans, cheese, and grilled chicken and the chicken was incredibly flavorful and not dry in the slightest. The baby burrito was perfect size, too. The prices are very reasonable and they have complimentary chips and salsa. I stopped by here today, as I have been meaning to try it and was happy to see they opened in our small town of Montara. My go to test burrito is Carnitas. It was well made with the proportions mixed in the proper way as to get all the ingredients in every bite. The carnitas is soft, crispy and super flavorful. The rice and beans are tasty in their own way but not so flavorful as to mess the balance of flavors. While a burrito may seem like a simple dish it really highlights how executed correctly is amazing, but messing up any of those ingredients will take you from the top to the bottom. The actual restaurant is tiny but there is a lot oof seating where you can look at the ocean. Staff is super nice and communicative. The people who own this Taqueria are so friendly! I had a great conversation with Edgar out on the deck that had a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. He told me they serve breakfast and I'm sold. That's my favorite. But this day was my first visit and I had a carne asada super burrito and it was delicious and very filling. I also ordered a fish and shrimp taco plate for my hubby. He was very happy. The chips are really delicious and we love pico de gallo, I suggest ordering a side of guacamole. Had such high hopes given all the 5-star reviews...unfortunately they weren't on their game for a Monday lunch. Highs: -Fresh made chips are great -Salsas were fantastic Lows: -First in line at an empty restaurant, and received my order AFTER the 7 orders behind me...for a super chicken burrito with zero modifications -First bite was a grizzled, fatty piece of meat I had to spit out -Second bite had me wondering if I was at Chipotle...sour cream and guac at the other side maybe? -By halfway through, I started appreciating that the "super" part was apparently optional So I finished 3/4 of it because I was hungry. The guy at the counter was helpful when I showed him the last quarter...asked if I'd ordered the regular. I said I hoped not for ~$16.50 (plus a tip I'd already left before knowing what I was in for). He offered to make me a new one...but why? I was already done eating. QUE RICO!! Believe the hype! This place is amazing and just what we needed here! Hands down, this is the best Mexican food from here to at least Pescadero. The food and sides are very fresh and well seasoned. We had a nice sampling of their meats. I had carne asada, al pastor, pollo and carnitas. The carnitas was my favorite, excellently seasoned and crispy. My wife had a fish taco and veggie taco, she commented very highly on the fish, but enjoyed both very much. First time and certainly not the last. I ordered the Seafood Molcajete it was so good. They served it on some type of blackstone bowl that kept it warm. Eating that dish while facing the ocean that can been seen in the distance made the experience even better. Have been looking with my girlfriend for a good spot on this side of the bay for chilaquiles. And when I tell you that it was what I call the perfect price to yum factor. I could not finish the food and I can eat. Flavor was on point. And the chip and salsa bar made this amazing. The staff was amazing to talk to as they are a new establishment. We tried this place a few months back and been back almost every other week!!!! We absolutely love the chip bar with authentic salsa, radish's and pickled onions. We love the birria tacos and pupusas. I haven't had such good pupusas since LA. The service is quick and the restaurant has nice outside seating with an ocean view. This place is a gem! This is a fabulous addition to the Coastside. Super friendly staff and chill atmosphere accompanied by delicious fresh Mexican cuisine. I've tried the Banado burrito in El Pastor and pollo asada. Both excellent excellent. I've also tried the Birria, Pazole and the pupusa and recommend those as well. Well, seasoned delicious sauces to accompany them. Fantastic fresh chips and salsa. Im the kind of person who usually dont write reviews because i have always had very good service i have been coming in here to eat an up until now was a very good experience nice people and really good customer service. Last week i came to eat with my family it was around 6pm we ordered but there where no salsa for the chips, we asked an employee if he had any salsa he was very rude and said if there was none at the stand then there was no more, we thought they were closing but he said they closed until 10pm. We continued into eat our food when when a person walks in it was not hispanic, but ordered food and asked the guy for salsa he didn't hesitate to bring all the salsas out for that person, i was upset because a few minutes before asked for the same thing and he was very rude to my family and me, I would not mind if he said we are getting ready the salsas or something, i saw this very racist just because i was not white and i was hispanic. It was favorite place to eat until this guy did this, and to be honest is the only place with mexican food close to my job. Very disappointed about this incident. read more

Dine-in review. Food and service were seriously lacking. I ordered right after my friends did and mine came out 20 minutes after theirs did. They had basically already finished eating. I ordered two regular tacos -fish and shrimp- and one crispy taco - carne asada. The shrimp taco was fairly flavorless and the tortillas fell apart. Basic, unheated store bought corn tortillas. Same with the fish taco. And it had a strange flavor. But it was better than the shrimp. The carne asada taco had barely any meat but the fried tortilla was much better. Add one bottle of water and a total of $22 not including tip. However it was a sunny, warm day and there was a lovely view from the deck. read more
