One thing I've learned: if a spot is packed with blue collar workers, it's usually the real deal. They don't have time for mediocre food. They want filling, comforting, and delicious, and honestly... same. Ordering is super convenient. They do online ordering and they move fast. My food is usually ready in about 5 to 9 minutes, which is perfect. I can place the order on my laptop at home, hop in the car, and by the time I pull up my tacos are basically waving at me from the counter. What to get? You really can't go wrong with the tacos, especially because of the variety of meat options. They come on warm double corn tortillas and get hit with that spicy, tangy, downright addictive salsa. Fair warning: you'll stare at the menu too long and start negotiating with yourself like, "Do I really need three meats?" Yes. Yes you do. To cool things down, grab a chilled jamaica or horchata. Unassuming place near the Fremont Hub. It's been around while. Quite frankly, Mexican food in this part of the Bay Area is generally pretty slim pickings and it's even rarer to find one with a fully functional salsa bar. But slim pickings isn't no pickings - and if you're craving Mexican fast food at a random hour (they're open extremely late by Fremont standards) - this place is great for that. The food is just solid, convenient, and they're one of the last places out there that still has a salsa bar, which means that I'm going to have to keep coming back no matter what else I think. This place is pretty much always packed at all hours by virtue of being solid Mexican food in a place where there isn't a lot. Food comes out super fast. Prices are basically reasonable...I can't call it cheap or affordable, but basically nothing here is. As far as a meal goes, it's a perfectly reasonable price point. Honestly just not a lot to say - this is just a solid place that is pretty much completely monopolizing the Mexican fast food in a place you can actually sit down in and use a salsa bar niche. We stopped in here after learning about a new Mexican place near the Fremont Hub. The restaurant is at the end of a busy yet very small 'L' shaped strip mall, and was very familiar with the location. The small narrow restaurant had only a few sit down tables, and a few single seats bar-style near the cooking area. The interior seemed dated and a little run down, even if it is a newer location. There are a few additional seating spots outside along the side and front of the restaurant. The menu is your typical Mexican taco joint fare - tacos, burritos, tortas... as well as the meat selections that are available. We sampled a regular carne asada taco and a super al pastor taco. Both arrived quickly at the table, and I quickly noticed that they were a bit small with meager fillings than the regular taco joint I go to up in Hayward. The platter also had a few grilled hot peppers and some soft cooked onion segments. My super taco had a lot of sour cream and guac on it--it was very messy to eat, and the ratio was way off compared to the meat and corn tortilla. The regular taco was small with meager filling as well, just sans the too-big portion of sour cream and guac. The taste was a little on the sweet side--something I was not used to at all. Meat is supposed to be savory and well, meaty--not sweet. Although the lady at the counter did not ask or offer if I wanted chips with my tacos, I went back to the counter to get a small basket after hearing her offer/ask every other customer who came in and ordered. The chips were small and thin--again, nothing like the thick large ones I get at my regular taco joint. I really felt like they came from a bag instead of being fried fresh at the location. The chips were sad, but the real disappointment were the flavorless, watered down salsas at their salsa station. It's as if they made a traditional green, red, or pico de gallo, and then added a 1:1 ratio of water to it. The watery salsas here are a huge letdown. Needless to say, I will not be returning here for my taco cravings. The small portions, meager meat fillings with the questionable sweet taste, and the sad and sorry looking salsas and chips only cement in my mind how much better my go-to place in Hayward is compared to this place. Prices here are about the same as my regular spot, but the food quality and quantity are severely lacking on comparison. After a Mission Peak hike, you need something substantial to refuel. They don't have a whole lot of seating inside so not good for groups larger than 4. The salsa bar is nice with 6 different salsas. Free chips given for orders. I got the super fish burrito and shrimp taco with no cheese. The burrito was good. Filling and fish didn't have a fishy taste. I was craving tacos and this happened to be closer to me than the regular place I frequent. Reviews looked good so I gave it a go. The moment I opened the door and stepped it I knew it's going to be good. The restaurant is small, only a couple of tables inside. They also have a little salsa bar where you get your salsas and sides like pickles and limes while you wait for your food. It is a bit difficult to move around when the place is busy and alot of people are waiting for their food but the people work quick and we didnt wait too long. I have gone here a couple times since writing this and so far I am loving the tacos. I am pretty simple with tacos, just salsa, onion, cilantro, nothing fancy. The meat is usually the star of the show. All the meats I have tried have been great, and they give you so much per taco. The other place I used to go to could not compare. Omg what a delicious find!!! My coworkers mentioned this taqueria to me while I was scouring lunch options and I'm so glad that I tried it. I ordered their #2 two tacos combo plate which consists of two tacos, refried beans, rice, and a fountain drink. Thankfully, I wore my stretchy scrubs that day because whewww I ate every last bite! Their meat was super flavorful and succulent which I loved. The cashier was really nice and there's also a little salsa bar as well. This is my favorite taqueria in Fremont! I come here often and I usually get tacos or a burrito, everything is sooo good. The refried beans here are the best. Every order comes with complimentary chips and there's a salsa bar with the yummiest salsas ever. My favorite is the habanero salsa because it's actually decently spicy. I hate when I try a salsa or hot sauce and it's not spicy at all. But this one has a small kick! However, the salsa bar is where I have beef. Only 2 salsas per order... stingy salsa bars are a recurring theme in my reviews. I HATE THEM! Some of us love our salsas, sauces, and condiments. I could easily go through 4 of them for a single burrito. When I eat Mexican food I need to turn my meal into salsa soup or I'm not happy. Also, they close the salsa bar pretty early. I came in once a whole hour before closing and the salsas were gone. :( Docked a star because of my salsa woes, and because it's my favorite *in Fremont* but I wouldn't say in my top 3 or even 5. If I'm willing to make the drive to SJ/Berkeley/Oakland I'd rather have Mexican food there. Service is kinda curt, not the friendliest yet not rude either, but understandable when they're packed. Honestly Bleh, so many better Mexican restaurants in the bay. Not sure why there's a line here. I'm a huge fan of nachos, except I would not recommend them here. Ingredients are the cheapest and although there's lots on top, something is missing. The Camaron y Pulpo seafood cocktail has the most chewy octopus that tastes like paper. I had spit out the octopus pieces whenever I got them on the spoon with the shrimp. The cocktail mix itself was nicely spiced. They also asked if I wanted it prepared hot, warm or cold..which is new to me. I chose warm and I think it was a mistake. Devil shrimp wasn't my dish, but I was told it was just okay. Just picked up my order about 30 minutes ago. I live 5 miles away and had already settled in at home. I ordered taco de tripas so should have received shrimp, but instead received steak. The guacamole is highlighted on the receipt for the fish taco, but that was missing. The limon burrito is supposed to come with melted cheese, onions, and special sauce, but that is missing too and there is barely any cilantro. One time they forgot to put a coke in my order, yesterday they forgot the guacamole and sour cream that I paid for. Also, their chicken quesadilla was not good. Ok... so I've been coming to Taqueria Extra for some years now and they have become one of my favorite Mexican food spots. I only have 2 favorites. There's something that stands out about the chorizo. I usually get if I order a breakfast burrito or if I order a crispy taco (you gotta add sour cream to take it to the next level). Good selection in their salsa bar. I love their pico. I've even ordered the large containers for parties. Service- friendly. Even when calling in phone/pick up orders. My last order from them was menudo. WOW I love menudo and theirs blew me away. The broth had so much flavor. The amount of tripe that was given was very generous. Soup to tripe ratio- perfect. I ordered this to go and the broth was still hot, hot when I got home. THAT is how you're supposed to serve soup! read more

There are many good Mexican spots around Fremont, including two food trucks within walking distance of our house, but Taqueria Extra is still our go to place for tacos, specifically tripas and cabeza tacos. The tacos here are always consistent, they are loaded and always flavorful. The place itself is small, with only a few tables to sit at inside and outside. Not much to say about service since you order and sit down, typical of other places. Overall, this is more like a 4.5, but 5 for the food, which we will continue to come for. read more

This place was a staple in my family for years but the service has just gone downhill. There's a trend of just missing items from our online or phone orders. Most recently, we ordered a crispy taco plate with rice and beans amongst others things and they just completely forgot the rice and beans. No big deal right? After we found out (when we got home) and called them, hoping for just a easy refund for the difference, they responded with "no, we don't do any refunds, you're just gonna have to come back to pick up the missing items." OK, fine. We gave the order name and drove back to the restaurant. What do we encounter when we get there? The staff asked to see PHOTO proof that we were indeed missing the rice and beans. Are you serious? Not only did they make us drive back for the rice and beans, we had to provide physical proof that we were missing the items (even after verifying the name and order on the phone prior to driving back)? The food is consistently good. This is our go to local after extracurricular meal option. You go here for consistently good food and the location. It gets real busy during meal times but it's delicious. My kid loves watching the cooks and the soccer matches that's usually playing while we wait at the counter. Parking is usually available. There's seating but it's pretty limited and we always do takeout. Favorites? We always get Fish, shrimp burritos, and octopus and shrimp cocktail. The ceviche is good too. Got the tacos carnitas & pastor, both were excellent & piled with lots of meat, beware of the whole roasted chili pepper that came with the plate, it was hella spicy. I used to frequent here when it was called Taqueria Limon, but have not been here in a while. The inside is fairly small, with an open kitchen where you can see them make your food. There are a few tables and bar seating. You order at the counter, then they call you when your food is ready. I ordered the quesadilla and super burrito to share between 2 people. The burrito was fairly good. The quesadilla came with pico de gallo on the side, which was watery and ran into the quesadilla, making the bottom soggy. So it was a bit of a disappointment. The quesadilla was pretty tasty, it had a nice portion of cheese and meat, which is always a nice thing to see. They also give free chips and have a salsa bar, to be honest, this is my main reason for coming here. I love me a good salsa bar! They have quite a few options, my favorites being the mild green one and the orange habanero one. The green salsa was pretty good on them so overall 7/10. The ceviche tostada was separate so that's always good to keep the tostada crunchy. There was more than enough ceviche for the tostada that I used chips to finish it off. Taste was good just needed a little salt 8/10. My husband had the carnitas fries but unfortunately we asked for no pico and guac on the side and we didn't get either of those request. Pico was still on it and guac was nowhere to be found. Quesabirria tacos were too soggy. Tripe tacos were disgusting. I literally took a bite and spat it out without even chewing because of the smell. Cabeza, pastor, and asada tacos were just okay. Was craving carne asada fries and this place definitely came in clutch! I would say the ratio of fries to topping is like 1:3 but I'm not complaining. I also got a burrito so the order came with two bags of freshly fried tortilla chips, it was so delicious to dip into the extra toppings. There was guac, pico, refried beans and the perfect amount of cheese. Burrito was filling, I like they let you choose the type of beans you would like. I noticed some places don't really give you an option. Food was still hot after 10-15 mins drive home. The sides of sauces were delicious too! Self serve. 10/10 would come again! read more

A quick update. We've gone here a few times now and even after the name change, nothing else seems to have changed here. It's still really popular. We still really like the shrimp and fish tacos. We've also learned from the past and made sure not to have salsa on it as it burns our palate. The green salsa is what we usually have on the side. The chips are so oily and I love that. You know it's legit. Besides that, the only bummer is that when it is super busy, it does take quite some time to get your order. It'll be faster if you're getting meat versus shrimp or fish. We saw a few more folks who came after us who got their orders first. I'm sure we'll keep frequenting this place as it's on our way during our errands. I think overall it's been pretty good.
