I have been coming here for years since this particular location is convenient and also because they are the biggest Pinata location. Years past, we were on the quest to try all of their locations and this one won our unofficial rating scale in various areas. Food was always great, large portions, reasonable prices and above all friendly service. Then I stopped coming here....COVID, life....and here we are again. We were going to throw a surprise birthday party and we needed a central location that was able to accommodate a group our size. I went weeks prior to see if this was going to be possible since I remembered that they had a large room in the back for semi to private events. I had also used the area in the past for lunch meetings but wanted to make sure that the space was still available. I spoke with Nico and from the start the ease in organizing a surprise birthday lunch was easy. He told me the different options available in hosting a buffet style type of lunch or having guests select choices from a pre-determined menu. Once you let him know your selection of items for the select choices, he will type it up for you to have it ready for your guests. He didn't tell me that I needed to do this, but I opted in making my own menu document since I wanted to make it personalized, use color and also have the selections in English and Spanish to accommodate our guests. Their menu is so ample and they have a lot of choices and many non-meat and meat selections. I personally am partial to the Super Famoso Burrito (Wet), its my go to and the one that I almost always get when ordering. Nico was quickly available via text during the process to answer any questions. The day of the party, he was there and when I entered the restaurant with the birthday man, he knew what to do. Our invited guests were already waiting in the back room with the curtain drawn. I didn't have to tell Nico that we were there for the surprise party. Nothing was ruined. He led us to the back for us to be seated and surprised our birthday man was!! Staff was excellent, super friendly and professional, helping to serve all of our needs. Parking can get a little tricky depending on the time and day if you want to park right in front. There is plenty available but because the restaurant is in a strip shopping center, the surrounding shops are also busy too but you will find parking. Our guests that had never been to La Pinata before commented on how much they liked the food, service and the restaurant itself. For something advertised as "Top Shelf," I expected more flavor, a smoother drink, and something that actually felt premium. It wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't memorable either. The chips and salsa were also disappointing. The chips were basic, and the salsa really lacked flavor. There was nothing distinctive, fresh-tasting, spicy, or memorable about it. For a Mexican restaurant, I expect the salsa to be one of those first things that gets your attention, but this one was very plain and underwhelming. The bigger issue, though, was the service. After receiving my margarita, I was ready to order something else. When I tried to get assistance, I was told I needed to wait. I could understand that if the restaurant had been extremely busy, but it really wasn't. That made the interaction feel even more unnecessary. When a customer is sitting there ready to spend more money and place another order, being told to wait without much attentiveness doesn't create a very welcoming experience. Took my 90-year-old mom out for dinner after her haircut, and we had a wonderful meal. She ordered her favorite beef enchiladas and was very happy with them. I decided to try the famous Super Wet Burrito with shredded beef, and it definitely lived up to the hype! The burrito was packed with tender shredded beef, rice, and beans, then smothered in enchilada sauce and melted cheese. It comes on the side, Guacomole and Sour cream. The burrito is huge and easily enough for leftovers, which I'm already looking forward to. The service was friendly, the food came out hot, and the atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming. My husband and I have been craving Mexican food for the longest time and we were heading to Pho Mama when we walked by La Piñata and thought that could be a good restaurant to go to so we did. Right off the bat, we were seated promptly and given menus. The menu is massive - we were thinking it was going to be a quick review and order but there was so many options in each category that it took a few more mins to get through and decide. We both opted for 3 tacos each and a strawberry horchata. We were given free chips and salsa and the presentation of the food was enough to get us salivating. Unfortunately, that's where it fell flat for us. While the food was impressive to the eyes, there was little to no flavor in the meat and the salsa. The chips, while I appreciated they were free, were also halfway to being stale. It tasted so bad and when we asked our server he said thats the special flavor of the dish lol. we left it untouched. just bad. coming to main course I got the street tacos. Pretty loaded, juicy meats and comes with nice toppings of beans, salsa verde/picante and picked carrots, grilled onions and chilli. It's taco Tuesday! My friend and I decided to grab dinner at La Piñata. We ordered loaded fries with steak and a combination 2 chicken taco and enchilada plate. The service was on point but the food was mediocre. The fries were crinkle instead of steak fries. They became soggy and were unappetizing to eat. The jalapeños were from a can instead of fresh. Okay so I've had alot of their food here but I must say their spinach pesto veggie enchiladas as AMAZING! My go to was the salsa verde chicken enchiladas but these spinach ones are definitely top tier and I'm not a huge veggie fan so that says a lot. If you look at my picture the one on the left is the spinach pesto veggie and the one on the right is the salsa verde chicken enchilada. I'm happy they were able to do one of each so I could try it. 1. the service was good, the waiters were hardworking running back and forth to cater to our needs at our booked event in the back room. 2 i got a burrito a few years ago here and it was very bland and disappointing and they charged me extra for sour cream, it was such an awful burrito. Some of the worst Mexican food I ever had. Ordered taco salad. First, the chips tasted stale and when I asked to get new chips, waiter said they are fine, "that's how they taste". Secondly, they got the chicken wrong (came out with shredded chicken instead of regular chicken) and third, the beans were very watery. I could see water at the bottom of the taco shell. They did replace my salad with the grilled chicken but there was even more water the second time around! Would not repeat and would not recommend. Go elsewhere! read more

So, I was told today that a gift card that I purchased IN FREMONT at Costco is suddenly no longer accepted at the Fremont restaurant because their system changed. Now, I have to drive to San Leandro, Hayward, or Concord to redeem 2 gift cards? I live in Pleasanton! How is this okay? I'm not sure this is even legal. That said, I do love this restaurant and the food. I'm just not okay with this "system change" that has now affected gift card redemption. There was NO warning. There's suddenly a note on the door saying gift cards are no longer accepted here. I can't even find out the value of my gift cards to see what money is left on them. We ordered the Famoso burrito with shrimp, flautas chicken plate and 3 tacos carne asada. All 3 items were great. The burrito is HUGE! It has alot of rice and beans in it but is tasty and there was a good amount of shrimp also. Tacos were classic street tacos. Flautas were crispy and came with rice and beans. I came here for Cinco de Mayo with my friends. They have so many affordable drink options! Carnitas fajitas were sooooo good here. The portion was quite large and even though I shared with my husband, we were both quite full afterwards. The margaritas and mojitos are also good! (Although the passionfruit flavor was weak on one cocktail, it was still a good drink) Staff is *just* attentive enough. You get standard fare service: a host/hostess seats you, someone takes orders and brings you food. They don't check on you too much (which I would find annoying if I'm there to hang out with friends). In the Tri-City area on the evening of Wednesday, January 3, 2024, Mom suggested that we have dinner with Auntie Marissa at La Piñata in Fremont. Remembering my nice lunch at La Piñata in Hayward, I gladly agreed. Located in the Gateway Plaza on Paseo Padre, there is plenty of parking available in the shopping center's lot. This location is bigger than the locale in Hayward, but is not as vibrantly decorated. The walls are multi-colored, but the ceiling is not painted. Like the dining room, the women's bathroom was very clean on the night of our visit. Below are some items that we ordered: Flautas Dinner (two each of chicken and beef taquitos, $17.25) - To ensure crispness, we asked for the four flautas to be served on a separate plate with toppings and lettuce apart from the taquitos. The rolled tacos were still served with the rice and beans, but at least they remembered to serve the toppings separately. As a result, only the taquito touching the rice and beans lost a little bit of crisp on one side. For some odd reason, I enjoyed the beef flauta at the Hayward location more than the ones served here in Fremont. #13 - 1 Enchilada (verde with chicken) & Chile Relleno Combination Entree ($16.99) - Initially, I was inadvertently served a carne asada taco instead of the chile relleno. The yummy taco was a generous size and the meat was lean. The chile relleno was also enjoyable. Once I started to eat the enchilada, I had a flashback of looking for melted cheese when I ate this in Hayward. I echo that the enchilada would have been better with melted cheese. Horchata de Coco ($4.25) - Yum! If you like horchata and coconut like me, this drink is for you. Service was excellent. When Mom and I arrived, Auntie Marissa was already sitting at a high table at the bar. We asked to move to a regular table further in the dining room and the friendly host helped us with warmth and a smile. When our waitress served my erroneous order, she took back the plate to bring to the kitchen, but returned it to me very quickly, admitting that the mistake was her fault. She let me keep the carne asada taco and brought out the missing chile relleno in no time. I was very impressed by her honesty and accountability. Not many people are as honest as her. Apparently, Auntie Marissa has been frequenting this place. In fact, our waitress recognized her from being in on the Sunday prior. This is evidently a regular spot for my aunt and I can totally understand why. Although part of a chain, La Piñata is a solid place to go for Mexican food. read more

My company orders lunch from here every so often. They have a large menu where everyone can find something they like. We usually get it delivered, and our order hasn't been wrong yet! We explicitly informed the restaurant multiple times that we are vegetarians and do not consume any meat. We enjoyed our lunch initially, but when we called to reorder and confirm that the food was truly vegetarian, we were told the rice is always cooked in chicken broth. This means we unknowingly ate meals containing chicken broth despite clearly stating our dietary restrictions. This is unacceptable and shows a serious lack of transparency and respect for vegetarian customers. Restaurants should clearly disclose ingredient details upfront, especially when it comes to common dietary restrictions like vegetarianism.
