Been here a few times and I love this place. In my humble opinion, it's the best Mexican food in Fremont. The inside is decorated really nicely and the seats are never sticky! Service is amazing. My friend came and asked for a Oaxaca Old Fashion, which the bar tender didn't know how to make but he showed such patience trying to get it perfect for my friend. Can't say enough good things about service We got the Mexican Fries, Enchilada Plate, Guac and chips, and Tostadas. We way over-ordered because their portions are huge. Oh and we got flan for dessert! Everything tastes fresh and authentic. The World Cup was on while we were there so the place got busy and everyone was having a great time! I was scouting this restaurant to see if I would like my social group to have event here. I was so disappointed. I came in and two servers just ignored me and helped guest around me. I had to ask for help twice and finally a young man came out to help me. The tacos didn't even have lime to squeeze on the tacos. I had to ask for that too. Food was ok. The service was a turn off since I felt ignored. I was disappointed since I wanted my social group to have event here. They need to improve on their service treat all customers equally and not just pass the buck. Sad this Mexican restaurant did not deliver. read more

Cantaritos has good Mexican food at prices that seem exorbitant until you see the portion sizes. Their $20 guacamole, which I didn't order, probably is made from 5 avocados or something. I came here for dinner on a Friday and split an order of nachos with carne asada, then ordered a fish taco and a shrimp taco for myself. And some of their "fried jalapenos" which sounded good. And their extra-cost habanero salsa. So the nachos come, and my companion and I are both shocked because this is not an order of nachos for 2, this is for 8 people. In most restaurants this would be considered a party platter. We maybe ate 1/3 of it. It was good, not amazing, but just hilariously too much food. Then my tacos come, each on their own plate because each is basically the size of a plate. I vastly underestimated the size of their tacos, they were probably the biggest tacos I've ever seen. I ate about half of each. My companion had a burrito which was literally, not figuratively, the length of his entire forearm. He ate about 2/3 of it. I would not call either of us light eaters, but Cantaritos portion sizes defeated both of us. The habanero extra-cost salsa was nice and spicy, but skip the fried jalapenos. These are literally just jalapenos that were tossed in a deep frier, so that clear membrane on the skin separates from the flesh and they are a bit greasy. I wasn't a fan. I don't live nearby so I doubt I'd come back, but if you're in the area and have a big hungry group this is a good spot. They take credit cards and have a reasonably big parking lot. read more

Don't get me wrong, I like this place, and have been coming here for a while now. I would consider myself a regular. It's better than some other places I've been to. However, I gave it 4 stars based on things I've noticed that have changed. For example, they used to give chips with your to go order, now they don't. They also charge for a to go bag. It used to be like .15, now it's .25. Also, same thing with steak. Just keep that in mind. I just hope they don't keep slowly increasing the price for some things and hoping people don't notice. On to the positive: Food is good though, as well are portions. Nice staff, and food comes out pretty quickly usually if not too busy. read more

There were only 2 people at the time and one server seemed to be doing everything, I mean from waiting 4 different tables, helping with takeout orders, AND bartending. It did take a while for the food to come out but I mean if you saw what the server was doing, you can't help but understand! The food was really good and the portions are great! My friends and I came here on New Years Eve for lunch, great that they were open! Super chill atmosphere, plenty of parking available, no issues there. They brought chips and salsa! My dad and I came here on a weekday night to have the lunch special, which runs M-F until 3 pm. I highly recommend it if you're on a lower budget but still want to enjoy a nice sit-down meal at a restaurant. Cantaritos has a cozy, welcoming ambiance that has a bar and plenty of tables. It seems like it's a good restaurant for small or large parties. I ordered the plate with 2 carnitas enchiladas with beans and rice. The meat was really tender, and there was just the right amount of sauce. Even though it was lunch, the portions were still huge, and I had half of it to bring home. We also loved the complimentary chips and salsa. The waiter was friendly and checked in on us during our meal. The good: huge portions. More than enough for dinner and a hefty lunch the next day. I liked the crunchy chimichanga tortilla that wasn't overly greasy. Also the nice char on the grilled shrimp chavella. The bad: their carnitas although well flavored don't have those crispy edges they get when fried a little on the pork fat. You can tell they just stewed the pork then threw it in the tortilla which is fine but that last step separates ok carnitas from good carnitas. Also strange was the chilie verde enchiladas which came with red sauce on top. The server explained that they put the chilie verde in the enchilada but they don't have green enchilada sauce which seemed odd because there are other pics on here which have green sauce. Lastly our drinks came out after the meal they said it was because they had to grill the shrimp which I guess is good because it was freshly cooked but anywhere else I've been the drinks come first. About $100 total with taxes and tip for two dinners and two drinks which seems crazy to me but I guess that's pretty much standard everywhere you go these days. I'd recommend it overall. read more

We came on a Saturday at 11am and it was pretty empty but started to fill up after noon. The place is well decorated, well-lit, and spacious. Our server was very friendly. I got the wet burrito w/green sauce and my husband got a super burrito. Honestly I think the green sauce saved my burrito. It was tangy and had a lot of flavor! The al pastor was good but nothing special (wish it had more char). The prices were also very fair. But our family got plates that were like $5-$10 more with less food haha. Came for taco Tuesday and was pretty pleased! It's like a clean family restaurant, organized and well decorated and staffed. It took like ten mins for getting seated and another ten for getting our order taken, and yet another ten for the food to arrive. But the tacos were pretty tasty, not too much fat on the steak. You can't replace with flour. There was a misunderstanding with my friends order but the correct food came out (so total ten-fifteen minutes) but our server (blue headphone things around his neck) was very nice, gave us theee baskets of chips and salsa, and offered us water to take home. Guac was very fresh, a little better than chipotle's but not crazy good like another review here says. We were looking for lunch options and looked through photos on Yelp at Cantaritos and was tempted by a sampler platter of appetizers and that was it. It was decided. My hubby called in and said he wanted the Cantaritos platter, we were asked flour or corn tortillas and said flour. They said 10 minutes and he went to go pick it up. I didn't get to see the place but he sent me a photo as he said it's cute inside. And I agree it does look quite cute inside. Apparently it's in the same small plaza on Washington Blvd with the Mission Pizza & Pub. Not a huge area with parking from what I recall. Alas, unfortunately we were misheard in terms of what we ordered and instead of the Cantaritos platter we got a carnitas platter. The hostess was quite apologetic but we weren't too sad about it. We were happy with any food to try out and we like carnitas, so he ended up just taking it. It was a sizeable portion and so much meat! It was quite delicious and flavorful, but I wish they had more tortillas (you get 3) or even some chips to go with it as I felt I was just eating just meat at the end. I did appreciate the guacamole and sour cream as well as the limey salsa. Overall, delicious! At this point it's 7:15 pm and the rest of out party starts arriving still waiting in the front not being greeted a total of 9 of us and still no greeting at all. Finally someone came and said I'll be cleaning a table soon mind you I was in shock because there was Mendy empty tables but maybe because it was so many of us. We finally sat down chips and salsa came in and super yummy, I order a micheldada and it was delicious. I ordered the aguachile plate which took over 30 minutes, my friends had their food and began to eat and still no plate for me I was the last one, I give the aguachiles a 3/10 I wish they had more flavor, I wish it was spicy, and tostadas were a bit stale. Also got the bistec ranchero cake with " corn tortillas" store bought not hand made" and 3 if you wanted more tortillas now there's an extra charge I just wanted 1 more. My boyfriend and I were craving Mexican food and wanted to try somewhere new. I remembered some coworkers had recommended Cantaritos, so we decided to step out of our usual routine and make the drive to Fremont. We're so glad we did, Cantaritos more than satisfied our cravings! From the moment we walked in, the staff was friendly and welcoming. When my honey insisted on capturing the experience, they kindly offered to take our photo and even brought out fun props to make it more memorable. I really appreciated the two kinds of salsas included with the complimentary chips, red and green. Honestly, every restaurant should follow their lead! My non-alcoholic drink was delicious, shoutout to the bartender, who clearly knows his craft! My boyfriend's horchata was just as tasty and refreshing. For dinner, I went with the owner's recommendation: camarones al tequila, and I absolutely loved them *chef's kiss*. My boyfriend opted for his all time favorite, enchiladas. Just two bites in, he shouted, "10 out of 10!" and he meant it. As the cherry on top, we shared churros for dessert. I'm usually not a sweets person, but these were incredible, especially with the whipped cream and chocolate drizzle for dipping. I placed a pickup order for a carne asada super burrito today. That plus a bottle of coke and 10% tip came to $27. The vibe in there was definitely dated but not necessarily in a bad way, plus it was kept super clean. The guy who took my order and the woman who rang me up were both super friendly! I didn't eat here. I am basing my review on my experience visiting here. We were going to be a group of seven but only two of us showed up to the restaurant so we were going to be waiting for our other friends to come. We asked for a table of seven and they said we would have to wait for the rest of the group to come. It wasn't busy at all for Saturday and the time we were there. My friend and I waited a good half an hour, and no one checked on us or offered us anything. There was one big table that still hadn't been cleared the whole time we were waiting. So, we asked another worker there if at all possible we could sit while we wait for our friends and he said he would get the table ready. We waited a good 10 more minutes and the table still hasn't been cleared. I know we could've just sat the two of us and not worried about our friends, but I was shocked that we weren't offered to be seated anyways, and at least we could order some drinks and have chips. We ended up leaving and we told our friends that we were going somewhere else because we were starving and couldn't wait any longer. Kind of disappointing. The Henchata was really good (but then again I've never really had a bad Henchata). It was cute with the small Henny bottle dipped into the glass of horchata. The Cantarito was disappointing. We appreciated the fact that the actual cup was made of clay, but the drink itself was weak and we sadly couldn't taste the alcohol in it at all. (Btw we've tried an actual Cantarito in Mexico and it was super strong.) For a restaurant that was named after this drink, we expected a lot more. I'd consider Cantaritos a traditional Mexican food experience. Which means there's only one way to judge how well the meal is gonna go... The salsa can make or break it! In this case, the salsa definitely adds to this establishment. So many bold and unexpected flavors took the salsa to a new realm... The guacamole didn't have as many bold flavors but what stood out was the portion size and freshness. The food in general came out fresh and piping hot. The plating was pleasing to all senses and I was very happy with the portion size. Prices were very reasonable. Of course, a meal is only really part of the experience. The service was really what stood out to me. Thank you to our awesome waitress who helped us customize and make vegetarian dishes. As far as ambiance goes, you really couldn't ask for more. Went here for spur of the moment lunch with my husband... saw it as we were driving to an appointment, and came in afterwards. I actually thought the sign said, "carnitas!" So was slightly bummed when we went and I saw "Cantaritos!" But I am glad we tried it! Pros- friendly service with decent food. Portions were nice too, my husband and I shared their carnitas plate. I'm still full! They also provided chips and salsa, and refills of both that and the tortillas. There looked to be decent parking available and the restaurant is big, so plenty of seats/tables. Cons- the carnitas was a little dry. I squeezed the lime all over it, that did help. Carnitas did have good flavor, but it's not the best I've ever had... not the worst either though! Service was friendly, but could be slow at times. If I'm in the area again, I wouldn't mind coming back and trying something different.
