My family used to enjoy coming here, but lately the quality has really slipped. The carnitas, which used to be a highlight, now taste like something you'd pick up pre-made from a local big-box warehouse store--bland, lacking that slow-cooked depth and crispiness you expect from good carnitas. It's a noticeable downgrade. The homemade flavor is gone... On top of that, the portions have definitely gotten smaller. For the same price, you're getting less food and less flavor, which makes it hard to justify coming back. This review is only for their Carne Asada burrito. Food - 2.5 Service - 2.5 We've been coming here for years and was my MIL favorite place to go with my daughter when she was little. The Señora that usually works the front has NOT been there for a few months so not sure this is why the food and service is average. We waited at least 5 minutes before anyone even walked to the counter, the cooks and young woman (who eventually took our order were having a conversation in the back / kitchen). I'm 6'1" so not seeing me in the front is not an excuse especially at 11:45am on a Wednesday. I ordered the "regular" carne asada burrito without rice & beans because I came from San Diego and this is how I grew up eating burritos. Food came out in a timely manner, but once I took a bite the meat was seasoned well but the asada was dry and overcooked. The cook packed the burrito with meat so if he maybe added more pico de gallo in the burrito for moisture it could have made for a better burrito. Hopefully next time we visit the Señora will be back and so will be the food quality & service. read more

This place has really stepped it up from the last time I remember. Service is great the cashier is cool snd friendly. For a taqueria there is alot of seating and they have a self serve salsa bar! I got a shredded chicken burrito and man that chicken was juicy! Good size burrito. My husband got a chile relleno plate and portion size was good, lots of flavor in the chile relleno sauce. They have kid meals so my daughter got quesadilla, rice and beans and she loved her little plate also comes with a drink. The pineapple juice fresh and tasty. We placed the order at the counter and sat at a booth to wait. It took only maybe 10 min for the food to come out. -Super Burrito: bf said it was alright, nothing unique or special, complained that all the beans were on one side (uneven filling) -Quesadilla Los Gallos: reminded me of a flattened/grilled burrito and wasn't the type of quesadilla I had in mind! Me and hubby was on hunt for a permeant taqueria place since our reg place sold to a diff owner and wasn't executing the same quality of food but WE FOUND Los Gallos! Staff is always welcoming and level of professionalism with all guests that eat there! I love their salsa bar! 4 diff salsas, plus pico de gallo and their jalapeño, carrot, potato mix is my personal fav! Meat has tasted fresh each time! They don't hold back at all so be ready to receive loaded tacos!! You get complimentary chips while dinning in! Interior seems clean, I don't trash laying around, you get food served by their kitchens staff. This evening, we were quite busy and had no time to make dinner. We decided to order take out and this is what I ate: Super Burrito with Lengua (5/5) I rarely find big, juicy burritos for a reasonable price anymore, and $12.87 is reasonable. This thing was heavy, and the best part was that the Lengua was very tender and juicy. They put enough meat in it, in comparison to other places that try to overload you with just rice and beans and skimp out on the meat. The only thing is, this burrito was so juicy is started falling apart! It was a bit hard to eat, but nonetheless I really enjoyed it. I would come back again for their Lengua. Jamaica (4/5) Im so picky about my jamaica, and my preferred option is to make it at home super strong with honey. Alas, when I'm on the go, I do drink jamaica at taquerias. This place makes their jamaica well, not too sweet and quite fragrant. Would I like it strong, yup! However, it's pretty good. Chips and salsa bar (4/5) Was pretty standard. With your salsa, three levels of salsa and escabeche. Did wish there was like, as usually most bars have it, and I do love putting lots of lime on my food. Our food came out fairly quick and there was a line for dinner. Overall, I'd come here again if I was in the area. Consistency with their food is what I really appreciate here. We often come for the classics; tacos, nachos, quesadillas, and burritos. We have never had something that we didn't like and love how much they pack onto their tacos and nachos. Their salsa verde is their mild and it's so yummy! We have never actually ate there, we always do takeout but they do have more tables to the side of the restaurant. The service at the counter is always good. It's pretty small but such a good place in the heart of the Newark neighborhood. read more

Got a carnitas buritto and Carne asada tostada today. Both were incredibly bland. The meats tasted like they had no seasoning whatsoever. If you want consistently flavorful mexican food, I recommend Taqueria Extra in Fremont. The places are similar, but the food far superior at Taqueria Extra. read more
