It rained Thursday. I made the trip to Thornton and ordered a regular burrito of carne asada. I visited four vendors since Sunday. The Gonzalez regular burrito is the tastiest I've ever eaten in Fremont. It is likely the best burrito in Fremont. The tortilla prep is unique and is tasty, browned, and (buttery). The carne asada was fresh, perfectly spiced, tender, a generously portioned. The pinto beans were whole, not overly cooked, and added a nice layer of flavor and texture. Spanish rice was perfectly cooked, not mushy, not bland, not too much or too salty. The spice blend, fresh leafy bits, and crunchy onion bits, set this typical burrito apart from the rest I've tasted, ever. In totality, this burrito is a multilayered flavor and texture experience. UPDATE: Found delicious, fresh tacos with fast service three minutes away! ONE exit up at Decoto on 880 North is Amelia's Kitchen taco truck! If it's a weekday and between 10 AM and 6 PM (call to check as they sometimes close early when they sell out), go to Amelia's and try the Amelia's Taco Dorado (crunchy taco shell in a soft taco tortilla with the works of meat, guacamole, cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream and her own salsa). She also has regular street tacos and Tacos Supreme (comes with guac and sour cream). Hefty portions (she doesn't skimp on the guacamole or meat) and all of her prices are listed out. Best part? Call ahead to give your order to Juan and they'll have your order ready. We've ordered ahead while a few exits away on 880 and also at the start of the Dumbarton bridge. ============================== This has been on my radar since my colleague told me about the best tacos he'd ever had in the Bay Area including al pastor sliced off a trompo, but then Tacos Grill Los Gonzalez disappeared for a while from the Apex used car lot. They're finally back so we did the long trek over to try them twice. I might come back if I happened to be in the area and saw zero people in line, but otherwise, the wait time is too long. They are not lunch time friendly as orders take a while to come out. First visit, there were two people in front of us and we ordered four tacos. It was a 28 minute wait. Second visit, two people ordered in front of us plus one person who picked up their order right as we got there. We ordered six tacos and waited 37 minutes. That is very long for a food truck. The people in front of us were getting impatient and repeatedly asking for status updates. There are no prices listed anywhere so you have to ask about each item or order off of blind trust. The trompo seems to be gone and it appears they use bulk bagged "al pastor" now, or at least it looked and tasted like what you see when taquerias order large plastic bags of pre-sliced, red-dyed meat to grill up as needed. The paper wrapper around each taco is a must because the fresh made tortillas fall apart after one bite, even if you are eating within minutes of being handed your tacos. Other options nearby are Amelia's Kitchen Taco Truck on Decoto with plenty of parking before Regan Nursery, Tacos Sin Fronteras (another food truck) a block down on the same side of Thornton and Mi Lindo Sinaloa (sit down restaurant) on the opposite side of Thornton. read more

There are a few fold-out plastic tables and some stools, and a condiments table with all of your pickled veggies and salsas. Stppped by on a Sunday in the afternoon. Note this truck is sharing a parking lot with a car dealership, there are a few parking spots next to the truck. They set up a canopy and several tables and chairs for people to sit, and have cucumbers, jalapeños, pickled onions, radishes, and four salsas for people to grab. Everything was very clean and nicely set up. The workers were very friendly. Like others have said, there's no pricing on the menu unfortunately. Just stopped by for a snack with a few friends and grabbed a few carne asada tacos for $4 each. It was definitely a bit pricey, but I would come back for it. These corn tortillas were very soft and flavorful - you could smell the corn as you chewed. Guac being included was a nice touch. There were a few chewy pieces but the meat had a nice Smokey flavor. Solid al pastor tacos with fresh tortillas. The masa was soft and the char on the meat was on point. I do taste the sweetness that overs mentioned but it makes sense when there are large chunks of pineapple cut across the tacos. Toppings were generous and well seasons a you had a table bar with radishes, lemons, cucumbers, picked red onions, and jalapeño & onion grilled to perfection. I always passed by this spot and I always wondered how good it was and finally got to try it out. I was really excited to see on their truck that they have homemade tortillas. Customer service was really nice. Good setup canopy and table to eat at with another table with taco necessities (cucumber, habanero onions, lemons, radishes, grilled jalapeños and onions, and salsas). Good music playing! We've passed by this place many times and finally decided to give it a try, but unfortunately it wasn't a good experience. About halfway through my taco, I found a hair in the food. It was clearly a hair, and it appeared it could have come from facial hair, as the cook has noticeable facial hair and wasn't wearing a hair or beard net. The service was also not very welcoming the interaction felt a bit flat. For food safety, I strongly recommend implementing proper hair and beard coverings in the kitchen. Tacos Grill Los Gonzalez is a legit spot for authentic Tijuana style tacos, burritos and more. I first went to grab a quick lunch. I ordered 3 tacos: asada, pastor and campesano. The tortillas are made fresh. I usually prefer flour over corn, but the texture here is soft so they almost make me feel like they are flour. They're fresh and not store bought and you can taste the difference. The asada is solid. The pastor is my second favorite because it's flavored really well, plus of course the contrast of the pineapple always makes it even better. Savory and sweet. My favorite is campesano which is a mix of two meats. It reminds me of Tacos El Gordo (famous in San Diego and Vegas) where I first had campesano. All tacos, as are most other items, are dressed with guacamole. You can add the pickled vegetables, orange sauce, salsas and squeeze some lemon. It adds even more flavor. I ordered three tacos and a strawberry agua fresca. I managed to eat two and was pretty full. They're a decent size, just depends on how hungry you are. We came by the next night bc my family was hungry. We ordered an asada burrito, pastor burrito, pastor and asada tacos and a campesano vampiro. The vampiro is almost like a crunchy taco sandwich and has melted cheese inside along with all the fixins as well. The crunchy texture adds a twist vs eating soft tacos. Everyone loved their food and all I heard was, "This is so good," "I'm definitely going back here." It's a solid option and our new favorite Mexican spot. After seeing this spot on social media it made me want to try their vampiros and tacos. Ordered a few of each and tried three of their meats. Chicken 7/10 -- needs more seasoning. Carne asada 8.5/10 -- (had very few chewy pieces). Al pastor 7/10 -- (too much of a cinnamon flavor). Salsa verde 8/10 (very mild but tasty). Molcajete salsa 7/10 (charred salsa). Habanero salsa 7/10 (very mild for habanero). The tacos are topped with onions, cilantro, salsa and a lot of guacamole. The tortillas are handmade but they fall apart mid way while eating. The vampiros are my fave, they are like a super taco with 2 crunchy toasted tortillas almost like a tostada sandwich with melted cheese, onions, cilantro and guacamole. Keep in mind the tortillas are handmade so if you're in a rush and there are people ahead of you be prepared to wait for a hot minute. Staff is great, they speak english and they're willing to answer any questions you might have. Al Pastor - everyone prepares it differently. In this case, I got a lot of hints of cinnamon in their marinade which I wasn't a huge fan of. Carne Asada - DO GET THIS! Great flavors, cooked well, very minimal gristle. Love that they use fresh handmade tortillas and provide the grilled onions/chiles on the side. I didn't see any prices listed on the front menu, but be prepared to pay a bit more than other places that serve tacos. Still, this is a SOLID option to go to. This is an unassuming taco truck located in front of a car dealership, but don't let that fool you--the tacos are amazing! One of their unique features is how they handle spiciness. They actually have a sauce that is spicy and their onion+pepper side is genuinely spicy, which I appreciated. I've tried the carne asada, al pastor, and lengua tacos. The al pastor is one of the best I've had, and the carne asada was solid. However, I wasn't a fan of the lengua since the striations were a bit too visible for my liking. I docked a star because I think they could improve their tortillas. It's great that they make them in-house, but if you let the tacos sit for more than 10 minutes, the tortillas can get too wet and crumbly from the guacamole. The prices are very reasonable, but my fiancé wanted me to highlight that their burritos are an absolute steal. The service is excellent--everyone I spoke to was friendly. On one of my visits, they forgot the onion+pepper, and radish side, but an employee rushed out of the truck to find us before we left. A hidden gem! Located in the parking lot next to the U-Haul off Thornton. It's a small food truck with zero seating. Everything is made to order so be prepared to wait 10-15 min for your food. They do take Apple Pay. I ordered pastor tacos and an asada vampiro. Their tacos are Tijuana style which is rare to find in the Bay Area. The pastor meat was a bit too cinnamon forward for my taste but overall I thought it was still pretty good! I loved the tortilla, which I assume is freshly made. The tacos were stuffed and not skimpy at all. $3.75 per taco which is a fair price these days. The vampiro taco was super light and crispy! Very filling! So I think they used to only show up on weekends, but as for now they are on this corner right in front of a used car lot fairly on the reg. This is not your basic street taco truck. They do a specialized version, a Tijuana style, which I personally didn't even know existed until quite recently. And I've grubbed street food in Tijuana a few times, albeit long ago. I think a rage surged in Socal with social media within the last few years, and I've even heard of a few out here in the bay, but my first time trying one here. Tijuana style taco is a much heartier taco than you're basic 2-3 biter street taco. Now in that, they're usually much pricier but you do go more bites. So don't let the almost $5/per hyperventilate you. I personally found decent value after I experienced what I got. There are 4 things that need to happen when you buy into this Tijuana style taco. 1) Handmade tortillas. These are usually thicker and heartier than factory thin tortillas. I like em for the most part but they are not a mind-blowing difference...for me. If a place griddles a tortilla slightly crisp, that is more important to me than it being handmade. 2) The meats are usually grilled over charcoal which totally elevates it to ethnic bbq status. The ones that get all the notoriety on feeds usually do, but I'm sure this trailer can't cook over charcoal, at least I didn't sense it. 3) The tacos by default are totally slathered in an avocado sauce. It is super plain and soft. It taste like just avo, lime and salt pureed to a slightly thicker smoothie texture. It just makes the tacos super juicy and messy, but me personally I'm more of a purist when it comes to tacos, just the trinity of onions, cilantro and a signature salsa is a good as it gets for me. So, for me this was an unnecessary bonus. 4) The tacos are usually wrapped in a small white food paper as to keep the immensely stuffed tacos rolled up, so all the fillings don't spill out. An effective touch I will have to say. Items Tried: Al Pastor Tacos (3*) They just marinate thin slices of pork and grill them and chops it large chunks. This definitely isn't roasted on a spit. Decent flavor but it was too lean for me and the marinade gave it this weird reddish color which seemed artificial to me. There is one slice of pineapple which was nice, but one bite and it's gone. Carne Asada Tacos (4*) I liked these more than the pastor. Legit carne asada, could be seasoned a tad more, but the salsas they give out are quite generous and delicious. They have this orange tinted sauce that is special. Taste like pureed spicy roasted tomatoes, so it has this oven braised sauce vibe. I bet you could take that sauce and roast a meat in the oven for a good while and produce a legit pot roast of sorts. I wanted more than a few ramekins. Lol Corn Tortilla Quesadilla Campechana ($12ish/4*) They also have a flour tortilla version, but when I saw this I had to try, and I'm not usually a quesadilla fan. I was slightly taken back with my price total for that meal as I got a couple of tacos too, so this price is what I assumed was the price after I broke down what I ordered. But for this price you get a massive amount of food, like the heaviest box I ever received for a 'quesadilla'. First off they again used handmade corn tortillas so it is incredibly thick, filling and not uniform in shape. It is so thick that it gives off corn cake vibes versus tortilla. Then they stuff the daylights out of this thing with melty mexican cheese and your meat of choice. I chose 'Campechana' which is a mix of carne asada and chorizo. Not too many places offer this so I had to try. It wasn't as special as I was hoping as the chorizo here is really strong, so it will be the primary thing you will sense. And not sure what and why, but I kept getting a touch of a bitter note that kept throwing me off. I couldn't eat this all in one sitting. I heated some the next day and crisped it a bit in a cast iron pan, and it was still decent. So glad I finally got to try the Tijuana style trend, just not sure if I love it enough for me to want to keep coming back. Definitely satisfying to have tried and break it down though, as at least now I have an opinion. Live, learn and tell, now that I can do. read more

Decided to try this place out bc of the reviews and it made some expectations! This taco truck is located right next to the freeway next to uhual. They have a good amount of parking for you to be able to order and pick up. We ordered asada quesadilla, pastor vampiro and taco. The servings were pretty filling and tasty. The pastor was a bit too sweet for my liking (bc of the pineapple) but wasn't too bad. If I were to order from here I'd choose asada over pastor. I really liked the vampiro the best bc of the crunch. This place is baaaack!!! And open 6 Days a week, instead of only on the weekends! I kid you not, i tried almost every taco spot in Fremont. And this by far is the BEST taco spot here. Hell, i think its the best Taco spot in the East Bay, i might be taking it far on that part. But my friends and i are taco fanatics and we tried almost every spot in the East Bay and especially in Fremont, theres none compared to this spot. Everything about this place is SPOT ON and yall need to get on this ASAP. I always get the carne asada and pastor. Both options always does justice i swear... the carne asada is cooked perfectly, lean to fat ration is balanced. Seasoning on it is perfect. And the same goes for the pastor. They do not skimp on the meat, these tacos are huge. 2 was good enough for me to be honest. But it wasnt even just the taco itself that does this place justice. The presentation, how they put together their taco, with the fresh made tortillas is just uncanny.. The horchata is fresh and tasty. They do take awhile to make your tacos (30mins ish) but it doesn't even matter. Wait, be patient, and just enjoy the results. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND. read more

Pretty good food. Would've given at least a 4 star if only they would quote ticket times accurately. 3 times now heading to this place and always double the time of whatever they quote you. I get sometimes it may take a while to make the food but 40mins on tacos with not many people standing around is way too long. Got quoted 20mins this time but it's passing the 40 min marker..... can only imagine the wait time on an actual busy night. read more

Randomly saw this place on IG, and was happy it was located in Fremont, usually places like this are in Socal. I finally was able to try their tacos, and omg....they were so good. The meat was perfectly sliced/chopped and fresh, the handmade tortillas were so good. I usually don't like avocado but it worked for me. They are definitely worth the price. I love Ofelia's down the street, very happy with that taco truck, but I am so happy I finally have another option that I can confidently say is amazing. read more

It's been inconsistent with the meat, lots of fat. Service is alright. Eating food from here is a hit or miss. Im at a point where I don't even trust it at all. read more
