I was SO disappointed with my meal from Taqueria Fast. I had eaten here once before and actually enjoyed it, so I was genuinely looking forward to ordering again. Unfortunately, this time was a completely different experience. I ordered the veggie burrito, plus a side of rice, beans, and tortillas. The veggie burrito was basically ALL RICE. I kept waiting to get a good bite with beans or an actual combination of fillings, but it never came. It was overwhelmingly dry rice that tasted stale and old. Then there was the sour cream. I know what sour cream tastes and looks like, and whatever was in this burrito was strangely thin and watery. When I took a bite, liquid was literally dripping out of it. All I could taste was dry rice and this weird, watery sour-cream-like mixture. It was incredibly unappetizing. But the separate rice and beans were somehow even worse. The container was probably 99% plain, dry rice. Nothing on top, no cheese, no garnish, nothing to give it flavor or make it remotely appealing. There was an absolutely tiny amount of beans--maybe a teaspoon--and they were extremely watery and unpleasant looking like diarrhea. I couldn't eat it. I genuinely felt nauseated looking at the combination and ended up throwing the food away. I hate leaving a review this negative, especially because I had a good experience here previously. But this meal was shockingly bad. For a Mexican restaurant, getting a veggie burrito and a side of rice and beans that are almost entirely dry rice is just baffling. I would say that the cook needs to put some LOVE IN THE FOOD! I did not feel it or taste it an after one bite I had to put this order straight into the trash. read more

I had stopped in to pick up a takeout order, only to find my husband was late calling it in and they had just received the order right when I got there. I opted to wait in the car since I had my toddler and infant with me. Moved here from Tucson AZ and thought I would never have real Mexican food again. I mean Mexican street food. The tiny little tacos made with 3-4 inch diameter corn tortillas that feature several meats like "al pastor" "carbon" and chorizo. I thought I'd never see it...but here it is. Taqueria Fast is not fancy... but the décor is still appealing...interesting. It is cheap food. Three of us ate, had beers, and it was like $20. They have whole and half chickens...mex style...for take out...off of a grill...when its warmer outside and they can stand to stand out and cook it. They have tortas...they have shrimp diablo. They have ceviche. Again...not trying to oversell here...but I do want to say that this is the food I ate in Sonora Mexico...and its in Woodfin off of Weaverville Highway. The true test is I see local hard working latino families in here...wearing the futbol shirts of their cities. I also see folks like me who have slowly discovered it..and have felt welcome. read more

I love this place! I had heard about it a couple of years ago, and decided to try it. I have to say it's one of the best authentic Mexican restaurants for quality, flavor, and price anywhere in the area. Their Burrito California (with either shrimp or barbacoa) and the fajitas are some of my favorites, but they have a great selection for the taco-lovers. This restaurant has added outside seating and does a robust takeout business. It has always been one of the cleanest restaurants I have gone to, as well. Add to that the friendly staff and quick service, and it's a winner. read more

A real authentic Mexican Restaurant ! They're hard to find, since a lot of owners want to have people thinking they're 'california or soutwest style or Tex-Mex so people might not get spicy food. I prefer the real thing and this place does a great job. Servers are very thorough and helpful. Food is great, except they need to just go ahead and season the food! I had Tacos Al Pastor and Carnitas, both had meat that was good, but it was dry, no seasoning or sauce on it. Sometimes I wished these Mex. Restaurants would force their cooks to go to El Que Pasa and learn to cook for a week. !!!!! It's a shame they don't put seasonings and the proper sauces on their food, But, otherwise the salsa was great, the beans were super ! My buddy took us here before a concert in Asheville. I had the Carne Casera and it did the job. I brushed it off as being a little tipsy. Came back tonight and hit the same thing again. I was right the first time. That bowl is delicious. Flat out delicious. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I consider 5 stars perfect. I give 4.5. This was our choice for Mexican on Cinco de Mayo. And it was decent but didn't really stand out in any particular sense. They did have a taco special, buy four get one free, that I partook in. I had the pastor, chicken and asada. And they were all fine but not amazing. The tacos are small but cheap so the price fits the serving size. The service was par. You do get three salsas with the chips which is pretty cool but again none of them really stood out. It's a decent Mexican joint and a solid three stars. Taco, meat, onion, coriander leaf, squeeze of lime. Sylvia makes the guac on order, big gooey chunks of avocado, hand colored onion, bits of tomato, coriander leaf, squeeze of lime. Perfect. So many taco places in Asheville. My goal is to hit them all. This was a suggestion from a coworker. 4 of us went for lunch. The place is in a strip mall and pretty unassuming. I had a Chicken Torta and 2 tacos. The Torta was good but a little dry, could have used more sour cream or something. The tacos were good and cheep, $2 each. However they are pretty small and when you pair small tacos with 2 corn shells you really just taste the shells. Although the Barbacoa was so tender and delicious I would just get that but not in Taco form. I was told these are the best Tacos in Asheville but I would have to disagree. I would return if some wanted to go there again but since it is in Weaverville I don't think I would choose this place for a meal unless in the area. read more

Definite good times and good food. Most authentic tacos I've had on the east coast thus far. I highly recommend the Shrimp and Al Pastor tacos autenticos, and perhaps the lengua tacos if you're feeling a bit adventurous. The ceviche tostada was big time fresh and crazy delicious. Our server was a younger girl who couldn't have been older than 15, and had quite the little attitude while taking our order, but the food overshadowed any sort of negative opinions that may have generated. I am disappointed no one has reviewed Taquiera Fast. First the name rocks. Second the menu features "authentic tacos" and "gringo tacos". Third the menu features a variety of tortas. "authentic tacos" and tortas are my barometer for good mexican. You can keep your 20lb burritos, I want tacos. I'm rambling. Taquiera Fast is not fancy. That said, their tacos are pretty damn good. I haven't had the gringo ones yet, but the 'authentic' ones are your standard two tortillas, meat, lettuce/onion/cilantro. Squeeze the lime on and you are good to go. Awesome. We tried for first time last night. Wow!!! Best Mexican we've had this side of LA!!!! Family owned and run. Everything is fantastic and fresh, homemade from the shells to the sauces! I want to like this place but it is highly inconsistent. I would not recommend ordering the asada because it is tough as shoe leather. I dream of their chicken burrito. Lord have mercy. This is all I ever order, since I know what I like, so to find out if the other fare is on a par with the heavenly chicken burrito you'll have to do your own leg work. Taqueria Fast is a Mexican place for Mexicans, so, if you are very brave, go ahead and order from the "secret menu". You know what I mean- the stuff that they think only Mexicans will eat so they don't bother putting it on the menu. I like my cow tongue firmly planted in the mouth of a happily grazing bovine, but if you like yours in a corn tortilla then just ask for it. Don't expect anyone to kiss your feet when you walk into this restaurant- you'll be lucky to get a smile out of any of the workers there. It's not that they're not nice, they're just there to serve you that fabulous chicken burrito, not win your affections. They may serve you in between having dinner with their own family, or you may find a giggly toddler peering at you from the next booth while her mom runs the register. It's all in the family. Most everyone orders at the counter and then finds a table, although someone will bring you a menu if you simply sit down and look expectant. If you dine in, corn chips will arrive at your table with 3 samplings of their homemade hot salsas. If you order to go, chips are not automatically included, so ask for an order of them. Taqueria Fast is faster some times than other times (such as when every single Mexican in town arrives there for lunch at exactly the same moment), but there's plenty of Spanish-language soap operas on the tele to keep you entertained. Your typical, no-frills taco truck, but an awesome one at that! We just road tripped out west and found some amazing taco trucks in Colorado, California, and the border of Mexico, so finding this near our home is a great surprise! The food is right on par with those out west - authentic, inexpensive, flavorful, and filling. We ordered to-go, so I can't comment on the wait service, but the fella who fixed our order was all smiles and very pleasant to chat with. Chips were included to-go (without asking.) Undoubtedly the best and most authentic Mexican fare that we've enjoyed. Small, family run business with attention to detail. Well spiced and flavored and most assuredly FRESH! I truly enjoyed the whole fried fish to construct my own amazing tacos. My wife raved about the Carne Asada tacos, but we both agreed their guacamole was the best we've ever eaten. Fresh chips and a variety of superb salsas accompanied our meal, as well. Give this place a try. Great prices and friendly service just bolstered our experience. The food is mediocre. There are better places in town, especially West Asheville though I live close to Taqueria Fast so I used to go here. The reason for the 2 star rating is because of the disinterest the staff takes in customers. There is an apathy when it comes to customers. The girl at the cash register can't stop yawning or get off her phone to attend to customers. Customers pay, no thank you please visit us again. They are handed change after paying and not a word of thanks. I witness this regularly.
