The Dominican food here is excellent and they recently did some renovations and the place looks great. The only problem I have with them is that they are on the staff and we had a little bit I will wait for a check because the takeout service was busy and they concentrated more on that than on us because the food was so good. There was 4 of us in our party. The waitress was slow and terrible . We waited so long for our food and we were the only ones in the restaurant for 1.5 hours. When we got the bill, the waitress had added her own gratuity as if she owned my bank account. I will never eat there again . This place is delicious, the food is packed with flavor. I love a good whole in the wall, and home cooked meal. It reminds me of my family cooking. My first time here today. I had no clue this place has been here for a Year and a half. A whole in the wall gem. We tried Mofongo/Steak and Onions/White Rice/Rice with Pigeon peas/Chicharron/Shrimp in Garlic Sauce and Empanadas. I'm in trouble as this food was very tasty and hit the spot. Food is the best I had outside of Santo Domingo. Fresh and seasoned to perfection. Very large selection on the menu. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was the service. We were not given any silverware until after the food was put on the tables. It would have been nice to have some bread/crackers while waiting for the food to be cooked . Service was good. The food was very interesting and all five of us were pleased with our selections. The place is clean and restrooms good. Noise level was not good for me due to nothing to absorb sound. No carpet, no curtains, no sound proofing tiles placed in ceiling or on walls. I have a hearing aid so that was a bit of a problem for me. However, when a large group left it was much quieter. . Also, the prices were very reasonable. It is fun to have a different kind of restaurant with Latin food. We plan to return! read more

For those of you who are impatient and don't like to read the bottom line is that I do not recommend this place. For those of you who want the nitty-gritty let me explain. we happen to be in downtown Jamesburg and found it amusing to see a Dominican restaurant on the main strip so thought we'ed give it a chance, despite some of the mixed reviews. When you first walk in you definitely get the Caribbean island feel with the huge mural of island life and the Salsa music playing over the speakers. there was no one to receive us in the foyer, but we gradually inched our way in, and we spotted that the action was happening in the dining room to the right. The one on the left was closed off. after about five minutes, we grabbed menus, and eventually seated ourselves. Our hopes were really high since it looked like many of the customers were local Hispanics. Also, both of our go to Puerto Rican food restaurants had gone out of business, and we were looking for a replacement. however, we started to grow increasingly impatient as five minutes turned to 10 or more before anyone even acknowledged us. finally someone came over who had the personality of dried yuca chips iand she took our order. Although I speak Spanish fluently, she seemed unable to understand either Spanish or English, and we struggled to put in our order. It seems like it took forever, Maybe 20 minutes or more for the food show up. in the meantime, people around us seem to be getting their meals before us, even though they arrived after us. The other unusual thing is that we probably would've had better luck if we stepped up to what look like a deli counter, where it looked like you could order directly there. But no one told us about that option. I had the stewed chicken and my partner had the deep fried pork. The presentation was nice for both meals but the taste reminded me of my mothers cooking. For some people that's a good thing. In this case it's not. The tab for both meals came in at a little over $40 and which we rounded up to $50 just to get out. I think this is a pricey given the quality of the food and lackluster service. We both decided we will not be back. read more

They opened up a second location that is bigger than the original spot, which is still open. This location has two nice size dining rooms and is where per tutti was. It has been renovated and good decor. The food is good and a lot of different Latin options. Go for the mofongo, Yoras or the stuffed potato ball appetizer. All were delicious. The food here is awesome...EVERYTHING is delicious and well prepared. The service is also very good. Very clean and inviting dining area. However, at out last visit we noticed the prices have gone up considerably. This was to be expected but to charge $4 for a can of Coca Cola is just unacceptable! Although I have enjoyed eating here often will likely not return. It's one thing to raise the prices on the menu but quite another to further milk money from customers on a can of soda that likely cost them 50 cents or less. The Mofongo appetizer was excellent and was easily enough for two people to split. The Jalapeno poppers for an appetizer were also good. The skirt steak was cooked perfectly and was delicious. However, we also ordered a lobster dish that we were told was going to be a whole lobster in a coconut sauce. We were even advised that it would be charged at the "market price" of $50 vs. $35 or so on the menu which was for a tail. We agreed but when the dish came out it was not a whole lobster. The server said they didn't have the whole lobster so they provided 3 tails instead. There were two issues: #1: We never would have ordered it with tails because we find that tails (which are always from frozen) often aren't good and #2: The sauce was clearly not a coconut sauce. The menu described a creole sauce but we were assured it would be made in a coconut sauce prior to ordering. The restaurant was redeemed somewhat with the Flan we had for desert - maybe the best I've ever eaten! Overall the place has potential because some of the food was good but the above issues need to be addressed. read more

Empanada were nothing special- filling was bland and dry, and the entire empanada was about 1/3 filled. Wife said quesadilla was ok, but she didn't love the flavor of the chicken. I thought the potato salad on top of the salad was weird, but good. I did the crispy fried pork and it was salty and delicious, but a few pieces were more fat than meat, and one piece was literally just fat. Rice and beans were good. read more

$64 for 3 people and still hungry. First, they waited until I got there to pick up the food to let me know they were out of Empanadas. Luckily we all ordered an entree the 2 Empanadas were extra. However, they forgot to take the Charge off my bill and I still paid for them. My son and husband both ordered Churrasco con Chimichurri which should have been grilled flank steaks for $17.99 each. What they got was 3 cow knuckles with a little bit of meat on them mostly bone. They filled up the container with cheap white rice and plain lettuce. I had to make them more food to go with the take out. I ordered shrimp in garlic sauce. The sauce should have been thicker and the shrimp were dried out like they boiled them to long in the sauce. I soooooo waned to love this restaurant based on my experience with the food of the DR and all of the amazing reviews. I was truly excited. We arrived snd the restaurant had only two out of probably 25 tables filled. We ordered beef empanadas, an arroz con pollo and a chuleta de cerdo with arroz and habichuelas. The beef empanadas were adequate. There could have been a lot more beef as opposed to empanada. Truly lacking. The arroz con pollo was very very good. Now on to the chuleta. It was like eating leather it was sooo overcooked. The habichuelas were off in taste. No depth of flavor. But the ultimate was the complete lack of service. The restaurant was practically empty and the server took 1o minutes to come over to the table. Took another 10 minutes to come back and take our order. She then disappeared for another 10 minutes. Finally our appetizer arrived. 15 minutes later until anyone came over to our table. The restaurant was empty!!! Bottom line...the service was non existent and the food was marginal at best.
