This is the first Mexican Taqueria I tried in Central Texas. My biggest concern coming to a Taqueria in Texas was that I would be getting Tex-Mex which uses different ingredients in different cooking methods traditional Mexican food. In addition, there are many variations of Mexicans. Therefore, it can be hard to determine what a good standard is. I was mainly looking for a place to get some good tacos, but found that this place had many Tex-Mex options, and items I was not used to seeing at taquerias. I mustered up the courage and ordered two Al Carbon (grilled steak) tacos, two Al Pastor tacos, and one of their Mexican BBQ tacos, not knowing what to expect. The Al Carbon tacos came with pico de gallo, and the others came with lime/cilantro. The tacos totaled to about $15. Employees were very friendly and the ambiance was very decorative and fun, with a lot of different things to look at. Upon trying the tacos, I will have to say the Al Carbon tacos on their own were nothing special, although the pico de gallo did help. The salsa verde that came with the meal had a good kick and went well with the Al Carbon tacos. The two Al Pastor tacos were okay with the onions/cilantro/lime, but the salsa verde did improve the balance of flavours. I was not a big fan of the bbq taco as it had a hint if sweetness to it, but some may feel differently about it. Without regarding flavour, the tacos were all well-made, and the meats were all cooked nicely. To summarize, I enjoyed the salsa verde and thought it very much helped bring balance to the tacos. I would say that this is an okay place to get food (tacos, specifically) if you have a few options, but not necessarily a go-to if you have many options. read more

I love the food here so much I eat here every Sunday. I go all in on thier pozole and menudo. There is always good music going on. My only nitpick is sometimes they are a little slow on service, but that's normally cause they are so busy. read more

I haven't eaten here since 2010 and I will tell you this place is still on point. My taste buds were woken up after having horrible Mexican food when I lived in Virginia. Don't even get me started on Chinese food in Virginia. Anyway, my husband, my old army battle budd,y and myself stopped in for a bite to eat before exploring Ft Hood. The restaurant is located on Rancier and easy to locate. The parking lot is ample and back in the day this place would get packed. Upon entering the memories flooded in because it was still the exact same when I would dine here years and years ago. Damn I am old!! We sat down and looked over the menu. The menu was very extensive with probably over 50 different entrees. My friend and I ordered a few beers. Each beer came with a frosty mug with a lime and salted rim glass. It was funny to me because Heineken doesn't really need a lime but whatever no big deal in my book. I ordered the diablo shrimp. It arrived with corn tortillas (didn't eat), refried beans, rice, a few slices of avocado, tomatoes and lettuce. The diablo shrimp had a nice spice to it and it was heavenly. My husband ordered the chicken enchilada and he enjoyed it so much he ate the whole entree which was a lot of food. I was able to score a bite and the chicken was so good. I never tasted something so delicious (in awhile) that it made my taste buds dance and do the salsa. My friend had ordered a sandwich which I was a little thrown off by. My biggest complaint is they constantly get to-go orders wrong. The food is decent as far as Mexican food goes. Decent-sized portions, a little expensive and they usually get at least one item wrong. I have to drive across town to get my order, so I have to check every time, to make sure they got it right. If you call in your order, it's a 50/50 chance they will screw it up as they only have a few employees that speak English. I never call in my order anymore, instead, I write it down on paper and hand it to the cashier. It takes a bit longer, but it's better than getting all the way home to find out you didn't get what you wanted. They also need to fix the entrance door before someone gets hurt and sues them. read more

For a month I've gone here at least twice a month for lunch, pretty much ordering the same thing. Today, the ground beef wasn't fully cooked. I called, spoke with manager, who apologized and stated to bring it back and it would be remade. Long story short, when I returned I spoke to a different manager who stated it was not undercook but it appeared that way due to the spices used... Yes we made the drive from Manor to Killeen to get our "Fix" of Mexican food. Seems to be a few place here that have good reviews. Outside looks a little run down, but inside is clean and colorful. The benchs in the booths are unique. Service was friendly, place had its fair share of troops chowing down too. Waitress asked if we would like to see a menu, or just get the buffet. Say WHHHaattt???...Buffet of Mexican grub. I truly dont know the names of the food at hand. Several types of meat, cheese enchiladas, chicken enchiladas, taquitos, rice, beans, guac, sour cream...you get the picture. Love the fact of the variety you get to choose from. Everything was hot and fresh and we left packed out for the long drive home. We will be making a trip back to Killeen again to try another place in the near future. read more

Tried someplace new cause hubby was hungry. Salsa and chips were ok. I got the crispy taco plate but asked for salad instead of refried beans.. It was great. Rice was ok but needed salsa and the taco and salad were fresh . Just got extra lettuce and tomatoes . Hubby got a taco and enchilada .. Everything was ok not too oily . Consistency is an issue. Simple things like chicken fajita. It can be bland, overcooked or old. Bought two burritos yesterday. Bit into one. The meat doesn't chew well. Some of the pieces take a lot of effort to crush between my fingers. So i'm picking through my burrito; i've got this pile of meat I paid for that sucks. You can see grill marks on it but it's rubbery. The only things that were good you ask? The beans, cheese, rice, and tortilla. I did snap pic of what was left of one of the burritos. What pisses me off the most is I made the same order two days before. Everything was great. Today completely sucked. I've been here 4 times and it sucks 50%. Not even gonna bother to call. I've made a habit of dumping Taquerias in Killeen. I'm looking forward to trying the one on veterans as the latest yelper mentioned. I never have a problem with the horchata. Visiting Killeen, TX.. searching for a good Mexican restaurant. Went to dinner with a group of 8. We had excellent service from our hostess Rocelle Oct 19th at 6pm for dinner. Chips and salsa, a little kick to the salsa but tasty! Restaurant seats about about 80, with about 25 people when we arrived. We were seated quickly as there are 6 seating areas designed for groups of 8 and 10. Pretty unique seats and table--very colorful and inviting. I ordered the Parrilladas de Camaron for one, grilled shrimp with onion, bell pepper served on sizzling skillet. This came with guacamole, rice, refried beans, sour cream, and pico, corn tortillas. Wow! Lots of food, as indicated in prior reviews. Great food, great prices, and atmosphere. Our group of 8 was served in about 20 minutes. We requested individual receipts and didn't incur a mandatory tip for a group -- that was a unexpected but welcome surprise! One member of our group celebrated his birthday, so he received a birthday song and cheesecake while wearing a taco hat! Perfect end to a great, amusing evening with a great group. They have fantastic breakfast tacos and just okay plate for everything else. This time around I got the huevos rancheros. No I had no clue what that was but, to quote the youth if yesterday, "YOLO". I looked it up after I ordered it. Presentation was "meh". Essentially I received some home fries, refried beans and two over medium eggs with some watery salsa over the top. The flour tortillas on the side were nice and warm as well. The dish was pretty good. Of course the runny eggs made the refried beans even more runny. I was cool with it. This plate was good. Not great. Service was speedy and polite. Very affordable. Four stars because of their awesome breakfast tacos and pancakes. Price point definitely worth the visit. read more

Yummers! Now initially I thought now this is a interesting place. The brightly colored chairs and decor threw me for a loop. We were seated promptly and i decided to start with water. The salsa and chips are ohhhhh so good. We asked for a spicier salsa and we got the verde sauce and the flavor was amazing! I ordered the steak with enchilada rice and beans. They had a happy hour but only margaritas was on the menu. Yeah the margaritas sucked in my opinion even though it was only 1.99. The food on the other hand was delicious and very traditional. Our waitress barely spoke English and I found ordering to be awkward because I didn't really know if she understood me well enough to know what I wanted. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE. Just moved to Killeen and I am so glad this place is not too far from my house. Now the location is not the best, but baby, when you walk into the restaurant it feels like you took a step into Guadalajara or something! The unique artistry and design of the booths, each one is painted with different Mexican paintings and almost like a different story on each one. Not only that, they play loud ass Mexican music which made me feel even more like I was in Mexico.. but baby by the time I ordered a margarita (being used to Austin Happy hour) once I asked how much the margaritas were.. when she said $1.99 I knew this would be my new home. I was S.O.L.D. I felt like I died and went to Mexican heaven. Hah. I have been here a few times, with that being said this review is a general one for the 3 visits I have had. The food is very good, it tastes very fresh. The menu is a little overwhelming but once you take a moment you can navigate around it. There is a lot of good stuff so I would take my time to read all the menu. The food 2 out of 3 times has been perfect. The temperature was great, and they all came out the way they were ordered. The third time we had cold food and we're missing simple sides.
