"Great hole-in-the-wall Mexican near SFO airport" Came here for dinner at 6pm on a Monday night, based on good Yelp reviews. The place is unassuming-- has a thin stretch of outdoor seating and a handful of tables inside. Not super bright in lighting, and a TV inside was showing a baseball game. Seemed like a lot of the business was takeout, as people would come, hover, get food, and leave. I was GOING to order the fish tacos or a fish quesadilla, but I was swayed by the picture of a breaded fish plate special. My son got the carne asada quesadilla, and others at the table got a veggie burrito and a chicken bowl. Food came out pretty quick-- maybe around or just over 10 minutes (the fish plate and veggie burrito came out slightly after the other two). I was very impressed that the fish plate looked even BETTER than the photo (see photos of both). The fish was HUGE. There was a generous helping of guacamole, lots of fresh avocado slides, some onion and cabbage, etc. There was a nice bed of lettuce on the side with sour cream over it, and the rice & beans (covered with a thin layer of cheese) on another side. The fish plate was just delicious. The batter wasn't overpowering or too heavy, and the fish was excellent inside (and very flat). I really liked the sauce in a little cup on the fish, or having it with avocado or guacamole, or even straight. The rice and beans were yummy too. Such a great dish, and it was under $20 before tax and tip. My dining companions all liked their food, though my son said the carne asada meat was "just good" (he had a bite of the chicken and said that was better). The person at the register was friendly. The good: the burrito was tasty. The service was good. The bad: I ordered the California burrito, which is supposed to come with french fries. The burrito had potatoes, but they weren't french fries. I really trying hard to make this my number one Mexican spot, but the lack of seasoning on the prawns still persists. As a Mexican restaurant, flavor is be the number one thing I would expect from this restaurant and it is not delivering in the prawns area. Really this review is about my last meal, which was the Durango fries with shrimp. I've already spoken on the shrimp, but let's talk about the fries. I don't even know if they were cooked at all. They had no brown on them or crispiness. It was just like potato mush. Finally back to enjoy my favorite fried fish tacos, when I'm In The area this is my favorite place. I ordered my usual, two fried fish taco plate. The rice and beans are freshly made. I normally get the black beans, but I was given the refried beans by accident. What a delicious accident, I will be getting these from now on. The fried fish is constantly delicious. They have added more plants and Christmas decorations to the outdoor dinning area. This is a must try if you haven't already. Jr is so friendly and helpful. Taqueria Mi Durango is Z's #1 favourite taco shoppe and has been our neighbourhood go-to taqueria for years. On average, we probably pick up food to go from here at least once a month. Venue: 3.5 stars. Located on El Camino in San Bruno, Mi Durango does not have a private lot, unfortunately, but there is a ton of free street parking. Sometimes you can find a spot just steps away from the front entrance. Indoor and al fresco dining is offered here. I love, love, LOVE their outdoor succulent garden in the patio. The main dining is small with just about a handful of tables and a salsa bar. Cleanliness of the interior could be taken up a notch or two. Food: 4 stars. The TACOS are the stars of Mi Durango, if you ask me. And why wouldn't they be? This place is a taqueria afterall. My go-tos are REGULAR TACOS, one each of generous heaps of CARNE ASADA, CHORIZO and PRAWN. They make THE BEST PRAWN TACOs! I also like their crispy FLAUTAS which V also enjoyed until he started to find bits of corn inside of them. Z never strays from his usual CALIFORNIA BURRITO with CARNE ASADA and DJ is faithful to the CHILE RELLENO. Their horchata is also good - no chalky residue at the bottom. Also, if you are ever there when they serve arroz con leche - get it!! Service: 4.5 stars Jesus gives nothing short of excellent, warm customer service. Definitely customer care is high priority here. I was disappointed, though, when we tried to hire Mi Durango to cook and serve onsite for one of our parties. After several visits this spot deserves another 5 star rating. It all starts with the friendly service and ends with a full belly. The lengua burrito, is cooked to a tender- melt in your mouth, savory flavor all wrapped in a flour tortilla. The crunchy tacos are another fan favorite. The tacos are covered in their pink salsa that brings out the flavors of the meaty goodness. The floutas are crispy and delicious with their pink salsa and crema served with rice and beans. Not too many places offer a taco salad served in a deep fried tortilla in the shape of a bowl. Usually when I order this salad the only thing left are crumbs. I was very disappointed with what I thought should have been an al pastor wet burrito. What I tried to eat didn't seem anything like what it sounded like. It looked great, when I opened the lid, but it went downhill fast right after I got a mouthful of the "meat". It actually looked and felt like bacon, when it's not cooked throughly. I usually have my bacon on the well done, crispier side, but that's beside the point, because it was supposed to be a well marinated pork. My partner said that her fish tacos were fine, but she would prefer the other San Bruno Mexican restaurant down the block from this restaurant. I came here because one of my coworkers had a wet burrito from Mi Durango at work last week, it looked really good, and he said that they were his favorite place. Thanks to a recommendation in a SJ Mercury article highlighting the best Bay Area tacos, we decided to give this place a try. It did not disappoint! We ordered both the grilled and fried fish tacos, and they were amazing but we preferred the grilled. Each taco was generously filled and served on a corn tortilla, with the fish grilled to perfection and topped with cabbage, lime, and a spicy salsa. While I would have given this place a five-star rating, the service was just okay. We had to wait a while for our free chips from the salsa bar. As we enjoyed the freebies, we realized our order had been forgotten. After inquiring about it, the staff managed to bring our food out shortly after. I ordered carne asada super nachos and also got a carne asada super burrito. The order did not take a long time as it was ready within 10 minutes so very speedy! I took my food home and took pictures of it. My super nachos were on point! OMG the chips were perfectly crispy and were not soggy at all! All of the toppers were perfectly portioned and made literally every bite delicious and well seasoned! I have not had really mouth watering nachos in a long time! I ate every last chip along with more pico de gallo salsa that I took from the salsa bar. I think they fry their chips in house! The carne asada was tender and well seasoned! Good taco salads here $12.50. I ordered mine with grill chicken. The chips $1.50 were good because they have a nifty little salsa station. None are labeled so it is crap shoot of how spicy it will be. When I came on a Monday night, all the tables were taken both inside and out. I may have stood there for about 10 minutes before a table opened up outside. Lucky me, I sat next to a bunch of loud biotech talkers. It was pretty annoying. I've previously gotten take out from here before but it's been a hot minute so I figured why not given them another try because I really do not remember what I got the previous times. They have some seating inside and a patio on the side. They also have a salsa bar on the side where it is self serve. Ranging from reds to greens and vinegar onion/carrot veggies. The Super Quesadilla was good, but my taste buds were pretty confused. The combination tasted like a burger. The carne asada was not grilled enough. It was more like a ground beef. There were no charcoal smoky flavor to it at all. Usually the quesadillas I get are drier because the carne asada is usually a drier meat. Wow I love the wooden exterior of this restaurant. Such a unique touch. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I got carne asada crispy tacos (comes with three), a side of guacamole, chips, and salsa. I really enjoy the wide range of sauce selection. From pico de gallo, habanero sauce, salsa verde, cilantro sauce maybe, mild sauce, and medium sauce. It all tasted really good and fresh. The super burritos at this place are really super! My husband and I are regulars at this place. Eating at Taqueria Mi Durango on the weekends has become a tradition for us. The staff is always welcoming and the atmosphere is casual and friendly. I do like my bundle taco deals at trucks and other local restaurants though, so there's some comparison going on. Staff was exceptionally friendly and willing to answer questions. There are chips provided as an appetizer. Chips - I want to say they're made in house from appearance and texture, but not sure. They're not overly greasy which I appreciated. Crispy Tacos - three hard shelled tacos with meat of your choice. I went with lengua (beef tongue) and wow, super tender and delicious! The hard shelled tacos also did not fall apart after each bite, so they managed to hold pretty well. I love my soft tacos but these were pretty good. Grilled Fish Taco - fish was super tender and delicious. Some sort of white fish blackened with sauce, likely cod.
