We liked El Compadre in Roseburg Square and saw that Taqueria Modesto had even better reviews and so we decided to check it out. By appearance I was a bit skeptical as the restaurant front and inside are plain. Their tables are mismatched and there is a "tips" foam cup on the front counter. Their menu has many choices and their prices are either better or comparable to El Compadre. However the salsa bar is not as comprehensive although they did have 3 green salsas that my wife liked. I wish Taqueria Modesto had the delicious mild thin sweet salsa as El Compadre. My kids had breakfast burritos and quesadillas while my wife had tacos El pastor and chorizo and I had a carnitas burrito. It was all delicious! Large servings, my kids could have split a single burrito. My burrito was better than Compadres, leaner meat! I tried my wife's tacos, they too were lean and great tasting. We all left feeling satisfied and stuffed. I think that if the place had a bit more polish, we would not be able to find a seat in the place. We will be back; soon to try $1 taco Tuesdays. I first came to this restaurant a few weeks back. I ordered the super nachos with my meat choice as Asada. I figured it was safe, nacho's are hard to mess up. to my pleasant surprise the meat was tender and cooked to perfection, the Guacamole was creamy and yummy and the vegetables were fresh. I went back last week and had a burrito with Carnitas as my meat choice. oh. my. God. it was soo f****** goood!!!!!!! the Carnitas were crunchy and flavorful, and just thinking about it makes my mouth water and my stomach growl!!! I will be going back soon to try more things. the service is great, the main proprietor was such a nice man!!!!! I ever got to say hello to his adorable daughter. I use to go to this place a lot. Was always greeted by whoever worked there! Just went in recently and it seems that management or the owner must have changed. It seems like the oldest woman there is the owner. Her service is terrible. I have never waited longer then 5-10 mins when I walk in to order. This took 20-25 mins, not busy keep in mind. My order was a simple easy burrito. They got my burrito wrong and wanted to charge me an extra $1 on top of it for the ingredient they missed. When she handed it over her demeanor was very rude. We absolutely LOVE Taqueria Modesto!! They have the best food. And the staff is sooo friendly. We come from Manteca just to eat here. When the cook sees or order come up she knows exactly how to make it. She will sometimes even tell the staff that took our order what they forgot to put on or order. This place is TERRIBLE DO NOT COME HERE! I ordered two carne asada fries and a burrito the woman at the register did not tell me what was in the asada fries. I asked her what was in the burrito and she handed me a menu. I get my carne asada fries and notice their guacamole on my fries I kindly ask the lady at the register if i can have them remade because i am allergic to avocado she asked the cook in the back and he starts to interrogate me about the situation telling me if i have ever been here before. If the lady at the register told me what was in the fries and i told him she did not and she told him i gave her a menu and i told him yes when i asked you what was in the burrito i had already ordered the carne asada fries. told him my friend recommended this place to me. We ordered a couple of burritos and quesadillas for ourselves and the kids. The customer service was great and fast service that I had ordered for pick up. Their sauce variety was great as well. Prices are standard. Customer service is ok, but not the best. Salsa bar is ok but not the best. Never been impressed with the burritos. The best thing here is the $1 tacos on Tuesdays or Thursdays. The restaurant is also pretty stingy on their chips. They only give you one free small portion and charge you after that. You also have to spend at least $5 to get chips. My family and I just tried this place and it will be my place to get my Mexican food craving! The burritos have great taste, way better then anything I've tried in a very long time. The prices are also great. They also have a decent size salsa bar that's really good. The only con is that it didn't seem like they had their ac on so it was a little stuffy for dine in but not unbearable. The seating seemed a little tight as well but overall good was great customer service was pretty good, they could have played it off more by smiling more but no biggie. I had 3 regular tacos. 2 carne asada and 1 carnitas. The carnitas was pretty good and the asada had great flavor. I just can't stand the fatty gristle pieces in the carne sometimes. Looking for good Mexican food today and didn't find it here! With a 4 star review I was expecting at least edible cuisine, but this was not the case. Walking in all the tables were dirty and/or covered in dishes and old drinks. After ordering and sitting I was brought my food, a super burrito, and I was not pleased. The rice was old and over cooked, not only was it chewy but also hard as a rock. The meat was burnt Untrimmed, full of cartilage and flavorless leaving a horrible flavor in my mouth. The salsa was watery and basically flavorless other than Tomatos. The only palatable thing was the bottled beer!!
