I might be slightly biased in writing this review, but last week i went to eat here for the hundredth time and i realized i haven't wrote a review about this place and that its simply amazing! I was raised in Pacifica and can remember getting burritos from here for over ten years..On my most recent visit i got a Super Carne Asada burrito, as did my friend so i will base my review (mostly) on on this trip... Food : 4/5 So my most recent trip involved a Super Carne Asada burrito, sometimes i get a chicken super burrito, but all i have to say is YUM. They loaded the meat, cheese, rice, beans (you have options, i get refried) sour cream, FRESH CRISP lettuce (i LOVE when places have lettuce and you don't have to ask) and although i don't like onions usually, i get the tomatoes which is diced with onions (so their salsa i guess?) This is one of the only times i eat diced, raw, white onions cause its actually GOOD!! I had no complaints about my burrito. My friend got just carne asada, cheese and sour cream, and he was amazed at the amount of food they loaded into it! Environment : 4/5 This little spot on the corner is only about 3 blocks away from the beach, and super conveniently located right off Highway One. Its not the nicest inside, older tables and chairs, and they have racks of chips, and fridges of sodas and drinks. They don't need to be fancy and i like it this way. Plus i usually get my food to go any ways. Price : 5/5 I can honestly say this place is priced below what i'm used to spending on a burrito, and the quality is above average for what you pay. My burrito was huge and i paid less than $7. Overall : 4/5 Now the reason why i give this place 4 out of five stars is because i did notice i didn't get chips and salsa (like most places give you them for free). I don't know if this is standard now, but i could have swore the place used to give them to you. Over all, i have fond memories of this place and have never had a bad experience here, but i cant give many places 5 stars because i think its nearly impossible to be perfect. I highly recommend this place, getting your orders to go, then going down to the pier and eating your food at the beach, its a MUST to do if you are visiting Pacifica or just wanna have the experience! read more

My boyfriend and I came here about 30 minutes before closing. We ordered 6 tacos and a super nachos. No complaints on the tacos, they were fine--weren't the best tacos I've ever had. But the nachos they gave us had clearly been sitting for hours before giving them to us. All I did was open the box and I could tell it was old. We ate some of it but the chips were so soggy it was impossible to eat the nachos. Pretty sure chips don't get that soggy in 10 minutes. Super disappointed. Now we both have a stomach ache. It sucks when you just so happen to order the one thing they made 5 hours ago that didn't get picked up and for some reason they didn't throw it away and then give it to an actual paying customer. Clearly don't value customers here, don't come unless you want a chance of getting something that has been sitting for hours. read more

I've come here several times. I've had the best carnitas tacos here. Although one time, it wasn't so moist. Other than that, I also recommend the chicken tacos, which are soooo soft, juicy and flavorful. I have yet to try most of the menu. Their quesadillas are so stuffed. Personally, I would not get the hot sauce on the quesadilla because it is REALLY spicy. I love it here along with the home-y atmosphere and kind co-workers. Burrito: -Decent: On the bland side, nothing distinguishable, guacamole is watery, rice was mushy, everything was on the soggier side after 5 minutes. The carne asada was pretty good though. Tortilla was cold, despite me watching them heat it up. Establishment: - Quaint little spot, felt very home like and comfortable! -Service was good, everyone seemed really nice and helpful Other: -Extra for chips -Extra for salsa That's kind of ridiculous in my opinion. I've noticed a trend of places that charge for chips usually have bad chips. This is no exception. Didn't even want to pay for salsa. Pretty solid place with "meh" food. There are many other places in Pacifica that have better quality food and better sides. If I'm in the area I'll get it, but would be tempted to drive 5 minutes to literally anywhere else. read more

I agree with Dahlia C. in her review, in that I think this place is ok, but not outstanding. Ordered the Chile Colorado regular Burrito, which was decent sized. Wifey ordered the quisadilla with beef steak. Hers was ok. Mine was kinda dry but passable. Not real finger lickin' good but not bad. When we first entered the place during lunch hour, we went over the menu and proceeded to the counter to order. We were ignored for what seemed like a few minutes. 4 workers were behind the counter talking to each other about something. One of them happened to glance up and asked if we needed anything. Gee, you think, Sherlock? The restaurant is no-frills with minimal decors and could use another few tables to take up the giant empty spot by the door. Parking isn't too hard and the place is situated in a nice quiet neighborhood. Prices are on the low end. Despite any initial negative thoughts I have about this place, I'll still give them another try because they are local and they were friendly afterwards. However, La Tapatia's burritos (in SSF) is far better. Til then, 3 stars. read more

This is by far the best burrito I have had. Back in the late 70's when burritos hit the Bay Area I was lucky to find them and enjoyed several places until eventually they went downhill in search of profit at the expense of quality. Not this place! The carnitas is OUTSTANDING, Try the machaca (sp) which is a stringy beef from their home town in Mexico. Mmmmm! Everybody I take there tells me it's better than anything they've tried, including the Mission district of S.F. Get some while you can before they close. I'm going to miss the friendly people that run the place and the wonderful food they make. read more

I really hate to give this place a blah review. Its not horrible. There were no issues with service. Everyone was nice. Got served quickly. I ordered the Super Chicken Burrito. Did get hot sauce on it. But I found it a bit bland. Probably needed a bit more hot sauce or spicer salsa. Tortilla was really good though. Very fresh. I can see why some people like it. I just like my food spicer. The ingredients have promise though. May try again and ask for it spicer. Or try a different meat. read more

After moving to Pacifica I checked out all the local Taquerias since Mexican if my favorite food. Here is my experience with El Grano De Oro: I ordered a Regular carnitas burrito. They made me wait until the burrito was done to ring me up which I found strange as there were 3 employees there and not another customer. The total was more than I expected and when I questioned it they said that's how much a Super burrito costs. I told them I ordered a Regular and they got it wrong so I would like to pay for what I ordered. They said OK, and threw the Super burrito in the trash can and proceeded to make me a new burrito, this time a Regular. I've never seen a taqueria employee so blatantly waste food like that. The staff also had an attitude problem and made me feel like it was my fault for ordering the "wrong" burrito and acted as if it were a hardship on them. The burrito was OK, not that great but edible. They do seem a bit overpriced. Needless to say, with staff like that I won't be going back. Mordida is not far away, has better food and prices, friendly staff, and a help yourself salsa bar. Do yourself a favor and go there instead. read more

I have regularly heard that if you want great Mexican food, go to California. Had some incredible Mexican food from food trucks in Maryland recently but nothing can top this place. Living in the Bay Area and loving burritos, I can easily compile a Top 10 list of Best Burritos---Chino's in the Outer Richmond; La Bamba in Mountain View; La Cumbre in the Mission.... The best of the best however.....El Grano De Oro in Pacifica! I've been going here for 20 years and no other burrito anywhere even comes close to offering itself as a rival. If I had one last meal before getting the chair, I would opt for El Grano's Junior Chicken. If they botched the execution or the Governor gave me stay and I had another last meal, it would be the Carne Asada. Seriously, if you're driving down the coast or to the Pacifica beaches, all you need to do is take the Francisco Blvd exit off Highway 1 and it's just at the end of the off ramp. read more

This is now the pinnacle to which I rate other burritos. I had to go back a second time to make sure it was just as good the 2nd time. Its a small place and they make it while you wait. Everything is really fresh. The tortilla is the best i have had. The chicken was awesome. The salsa and guacamole adds such a fresh taste. The rice was also excellent. This is definitely worth the stop. I cant wait to try some other things, my only complaint is that the chicken burrito was sooo freaking good i don't know how I wouldn't order it again next time. AVOID at all costs folks. We walked in around lunch time on a windy Sunday and it was empty and also absolutely freezing, like 55 degrees inside. So we got our stuff to go. My veggie burrito was meh, but my sister's chicken tostada has been wreaking havoc since about an hour ago on her insides. This is the best Mexican food I have had! Mmmmm. They are super fast, very inexpensive and DELICIOUS!!! As others have said, it is a tortilla factory and they are wonderful! They've recently increased their menu a little. It's the basic Mexican fare and on certain days they prepare an additional special for the day. I like the burrito size variety. From Regular (huge!), Jr and they have a "baby" size which is good for a small child or an adult as a snack. I agree, the inside is nothing special and if you just peeked in, you might not go in based on looks but do venture in. You won't be disapointed! Open every day but Sunday! read more

This is actually a date spot me and my boyfriend had when we were in high school. We came here weekly, and the family whom worked there memorized our order and even assumed we were married. Yummy food, but ALWAYS TO GO b/c the doors are always left open and by god it's TOO cold in pacifica. I actually went there without my boyfriend once, and the poor lady got sad thinking we weren't together anymore.. =)... I let her know he was being lazy now and I was getting food for us. If you want good tortillas go to LA FINCA in oakland. Fresh masa, fresh tortillas. My tortillas where so hard its like i was eating jerky.

We really enjoyed the food here and the service was good. Prices are very reasonable. We had fish tacos, chicken fajitas, chicken enchiladas, a quesadilla,and a carne asada salad. I liked everything, except the quesadilla, but I am not fond of flour tortillas. I also wasn't crazy about the salad- no dressing, tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, however, the carne asada was very good. The rice was delicious, the chips were also very good. The salsa was just a bit spicy for me, but I don't like anything spicy, but my family said the salsa was good. The guacamole was just wonderful. No no and double no. There food tastes nothing like the original. They have a whole new staff. This is not considered new management because the manager did not just change. The whole place changed. Obviously their food could not stand on its own so instead of changing the name the new owners are trying to use the 30+ years reputation of the previous owners to sell food. If you want to use the name at least buyout the recipes and try to give us some of the same food. It's sad and depressing that this place will never compare. La perla is way better read more

Came here with my wife. I ordered the combo burrito plate which comes with rice and beans. My wife ordered the taco plate which also comes with rice and beans. We took this food to go so they gave us 1 serving container, and said directly to our faces they combined our 2 orders of rice and beans into one. Bullshit. When we got home, it was just 1 small serving. Food was okay I guess, but the scam and not-so-great prices put a bad taste in our mouths. $9.50 for 2 tacos, and $10.50 for an average size burrito. Seriously, whats the point in scamming your customers on rice and beans that probably didn't cost .50 cents more. This is the kind of place that is supported by locals. Way to turn off potential repeat customers. read more

This is good food! Family run restaurant. It is like home cooking. The family member are locals with many generations behind the counter just like their customers on the other side of the counter. Since I was a kid my family has gotten food from here. My grandma (who knew her tortillas) loved to buy the corn tortillas here weekly. My mom would take my brother and I after swim practice for a nutritious dinner. They did the nicest job catering my mother's 60th birthday party. My favorite dinner to grab on my way home or to night class is a baby burrito with carnitas, black beans with everything. My husband likes the two taco plate. We also like to get containers of meant, beans, rice, and some tortillas and make our own creations at home! :) read more

Love this place. The Carne Asada Super Burrito is friggin awesome. I always get extra chile (hot sauce) and it gives it that extra kick. The carnitas are great also. When I feel like something a little more heart healthy, I go with the chicken. You will not find fresher tortillas anywhere. The refried beans are also excellent, as well as the rice. The salsa fresca is tangy, the cheese and crema authentic Mexican. I see some reviewers are upset that they don't grill the steak right in front of you, I have no problem at all with it. It's not like the steak is sitting out, getting cold. It's kept hot, soaking in the natural beef broth, so it is ultra tender and flavorful. Put it this way: My son is a very picky eater when it come to carne asada burritos. He only wants steak, beans and cheese. There are only about 3 places that he will eat them and this is the top of his list. I have been eating here for many years now and have never been let down. Keep up the great work! read more

We get burritos from here once a week and we have been doing this for the past 5 years. This is the one place I'm guaranteed our 6 year old daughter will eat from.
