Pretty good place. I had never been but I was surprised. Party of 6 immediately seated. There is plenty of seating but some is tight. The server was quick with drinks and chips. The prices were good and the food was good. The Jamaica was decent which was a nice surprised and the fact a refill for it was $1 is amazing. Most places are more expensive. I got the pineapple Cancun and it as okay. Not amazing but good. The salad bar was amazing and I could have just eaten chips and salsa. My only real complaint is it was so hot in the room but it didn't stop people was coming it. I would absolutely so back to try other things and get some more Jamaica water. read more

Everything about this place is great. The food, service and prices. It's usually busy but almost never a wait. The salsa bar is fresh and has plenty of options. We always get the fresh made chunky guacamole which never disappoints. Food choices are the norm for a Mexican restaurant but I haven't had anything that isn't good. I ordered a hamburger. The bun was stale and was luke warm. I didn't eat the bread. The fries were cold. I asked for hot water to make hot tea. The waitress brought me a water glass with lukewarm water. I asked her to bring me a coffee cup with hot water. She brought me a coffee cup with lukewarm water. On the third try she got it right. She had a great attitude and was very sweet, but she just wasn't trained well. Not her fault. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The whole time we were there there were 3 year old twin boys who screamed the whole time. Our fave Mexican restaurant in the area (and we've tried them all!) The salsa bar is awesome, and their regular salsa they bring to the table is so good. They don't do table side guacamole but the chunky guacamole is very fresh and has that vibe. The fajita quesadilla and enchiladas never disappoint! Service is fast and friendly. I had a great experience at Taqueria Picante! I did order take out so I cannot speak on the service but the meal was excellent! I was born and raised in Texas, moved 4 months ago, and was able to get my fix for Tex mex here in Greenville, but was really missing a restaurant that served street tacos. I found it! I ordered the tacos campechanos and got the extra spicy salsa from their salsa bar. The meal was delicious, it came with refried beans and they were seasoned perfectly. Can't wait for my next visit! read more

Finally found my Mexican go-to place if my first experience was any indication. We've tried more than a dozen places within 15 minutes of home and really like four but never found "the place." [[HIGHLIGHT]]Relatively small inside but comfortable; however the food was outstanding.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Love their chips and the salsa is good; crunchy guacamole is fabulous as are the fajitas and quesadillas. I really enjoyed my visit to Taqueria Picante. Staff was very friendly and attentive, the restaurant was very clean and well kept. Chips and salsa were enjoyable and they do have a small salsa bar with a few other selections which I always appreciate in a Mexican restaurant. I love the fact you can order the tacos individually and the price was a bargain. I have only tried the carne asada and Birria tacos here but both were enjoyable and very tasty. I would encourage anyone to give it a try especially if you like traditional tacos (served on soft corn tortillas). read more

BEWARE! Save your time and money from this dreadful establishment. They have food/drink on their online menu that they don't even have available. And if you order takeout, you'll have no idea. If you place an online order for food and pay, they won't refund you if something you ordered isn't available from their menu. They will just leave it out all together, or they will try to sell you something else once you make them aware and tell them you want a refund for the unavailable item. Both situations happened to us. They left out part of our takeout order, (a tamale) which we only realized after getting home. After calling about it, they said it couldn't be refunded and to come back for it. Upon going back to their restaurant, we were then informed they don't have tamales. Again, they offered a different food in place of a refund. Is this a joke?! The food was mediocre at best, and we will never give this place our time or business again. Do better. read more

The first time, I was alone, this trip, I was accompanied by my wife. This is important because she has an eye for so many different things than I do, such as the nice, clean, updated decor; the music was unobtrusive and pleasant, it is an open space that "a group of women would like." For me, it looks like a great bar area to watch a game on a relaxed weekend day or night with great drink options and tasty food. I would imagine this is a great happy hour bar, but not a loud kind, just a comfortable space with plenty of options. But, we were here for lunch. I ordered the chicken tinga crispy Mexican flautas: Crispy Mexican-Style flautas stuffed with Tinga chicken, topped with El Cielo sauce and house dressing, served with rice, beans, sour cream and lettuce. It was delicious....again. No wonder it is one of their most popular dishes. The flautas are rolled, fried tortillas with filling, sometimes called a tacquito, although technically a flauta is supposed to be a bit larger than a tacquito. Nevertheless, they were crispy and the accompanying sauces were drizzled over the top. This is not only a great presentation but is tasty enough that no other condiments. The tinga chicken is shredded with a spicy (flavor not heat) tomato, onion, garlic, chipotle pepper sauce. Served with a side of rice, refried beans and shredded lettuce with sour cream. This is a go to dish. My wife ordered the taco salad, as usual, however, not as usual, this one was declared as the best taco salad she has ever been served. The chicken in the salad seemed to be the same tinga chicken as in the flautas - so that is a good reason for this flavor. The salsa bar has about 10 choices including on for children that is mild. We tried five - the regular red salsa, the mango pineapple chunky salsa, the verde tomatilla, the spicy creamy verde and the warm, slightly spicy bean dip that comes with the chips. All were great. If I was picky, the chips are the thicker, more sturdy type (which is fine) and not the thinner, crispy kind (often called "restaurant style." But each has its plusses, so no big deal. Be careful not to over-chip, the salsas are all fresh and very goodl. Our server was a pro - Jonathon. He has been with the restaurant since day 12 after opening and is their most seasoned of the wait staff. This showed in his knowledge of the dishes and attentiveness. Surprisingly, there was not a large crowd at lunch, but a decent crowd. This is now on our regular rotation for a lunch date.

The chicken looked pale and completely unseasoned, and the ground beef resembled sloppy joe (Manwich) meat rather than taco filling. We didn't feel comfortable eating the food, so we left it untouched. We didn't make a scene, we paid our bill, tipped our server, and left. Sadly, this place didn't meet expectations and didn't feel like an authentic Mexican restaurant.

Even better, the bill arrived and together it was $22 and some change. With tip, still well under $30 and that's pretty good value.
