This is a quiet restaurant located in a small strip mall but accommodating a few outside tables and presenting a welcoming atmosphere. Upon entry to my right is the much advertised salsa bar with about 8-10 choices ranging in heat levels, both green and red, and both creamy and not, and a mango salsa for good measure. It's all you want from the salsa bar to accompany the free chips delivered to the table. I was meeting my middle son for dinner, just the two of us, and upon being seated, ordered a draft Negra Modelo, a darker beer, and it had been a while since I had one of these former favorites. "Small or large?" Was the question. "Large" was the answer. I think this beer was a 32 ounce beer! (See photo). I had two Tinga chicken street tacos and one asada steak taco, corn tortillas and as is the norm, cilantro and onions. My son had two asada and three pastor. Service was attentive but not too much so. A few families showed up for an early dinner. A few barflies hit the bar for a happy hour (Thursday). Restrooms are clean. Tacos were good, just a bit dry, salsas were good. Tortillas were a little drier than most. All in all a serviceable meal, nothing bad but nothing outstanding, good beer. Pretty good place. I had never been but I was surprised. Party of 6 immediately seated. There is plenty of seating but some is tight. The server was quick with drinks and chips. The prices were good and the food was good. The Jamaica was decent which was a nice surprised and the fact a refill for it was $1 is amazing. Most places are more expensive. I got the pineapple Cancun and it as okay. Not amazing but good. The salad bar was amazing and I could have just eaten chips and salsa. My only real complaint is it was so hot in the room but it didn't stop people was coming it. I would absolutely so back to try other things and get some more Jamaica water. read more

The interior is nice and clean. The salsa bar is well-maintained with an enormous selection of flavors to go through. The hottest is about 1/3 of a habanero in heat and smoky in flavor. The consistency is pasty. None of the other salsas at the bar are spicy. Like 1/8th a jalapeno at most. Same with the salsas for the chips. The one in the red container is the "hot" one and it's like 1/8th a jalapeno. The yellow one is no heat and it's honestly kind of weird in flavor. I wouldn't go for it. The chips are and thick here and I honestly like that about them, unique. Not too much chimicurri on the chimicurri burrito but honestly if you like queso and steak it's bomb. The servers are good here, everyone speaks English well enough and they always try to have two people by the door. It too me a sec to get my server but other people had an easier time so YMMV. read more

Everything about this place is great. The food, service and prices. It's usually busy but almost never a wait. The salsa bar is fresh and has plenty of options. We always get the fresh made chunky guacamole which never disappoints. Food choices are the norm for a Mexican restaurant but I haven't had anything that isn't good. I ordered a hamburger. The bun was stale and was luke warm. I didn't eat the bread. The fries were cold. I asked for hot water to make hot tea. The waitress brought me a water glass with lukewarm water. I asked her to bring me a coffee cup with hot water. She brought me a coffee cup with lukewarm water. On the third try she got it right. She had a great attitude and was very sweet, but she just wasn't trained well. Not her fault. The whole time we were there there were 3 year old twin boys who screamed the whole time. We were tired and it was just a disaster. The others ordered cocktails and they were good. The food was terrible. Food temp is important to me and stale bread is just unacceptable. Our fave Mexican restaurant in the area (and we've tried them all!) The salsa bar is awesome, and their regular salsa they bring to the table is so good. They don't do table side guacamole but the chunky guacamole is very fresh and has that vibe. The fajita quesadilla and enchiladas never disappoint! Service is fast and friendly. I had a great experience at Taqueria Picante! I did order take out so I cannot speak on the service but the meal was excellent! I was born and raised in Texas, moved 4 months ago, and was able to get my fix for Tex mex here in Greenville, but was really missing a restaurant that served street tacos. I found it! I ordered the tacos campechanos and got the extra spicy salsa from their salsa bar. The meal was delicious, it came with refried beans and they were seasoned perfectly. I really enjoyed my visit to Taqueria Picante. Staff was very friendly and attentive, the restaurant was very clean and well kept. Chips and salsa were enjoyable and they do have a small salsa bar with a few other selections which I always appreciate in a Mexican restaurant. I love the fact you can order the tacos individually and the price was a bargain. I have only tried the carne asada and Birria tacos here but both were enjoyable and very tasty. I would encourage anyone to give it a try especially if you like traditional tacos (served on soft corn tortillas). read more

Finally found my Mexican go-to place if my first experience was any indication. We've tried more than a dozen places within 15 minutes of home and really like four but never found "the place." Relatively small inside but comfortable; however the food was outstanding. Love their chips and the salsa is good; crunchy guacamole is fabulous as are the fajitas and quesadillas. Ice cold beer too. BEWARE! Save your time and money from this dreadful establishment. They have food/drink on their online menu that they don't even have available. And if you order takeout, you'll have no idea. If you place an online order for food and pay, they won't refund you if something you ordered isn't available from their menu. They will just leave it out all together, or they will try to sell you something else once you make them aware and tell them you want a refund for the unavailable item. Both situations happened to us. They left out part of our takeout order, (a tamale) which we only realized after getting home. After calling about it, they said it couldn't be refunded and to come back for it. Upon going back to their restaurant, we were then informed they don't have tamales. Again, they offered a different food in place of a refund. Is this a joke?! The food was mediocre at best, and we will never give this place our time or business again. Do better. read more
