This is the best Mexican food we've had in a long time. And before that, we THOUGHT we had been eating pretty good Mexican food at a downstate chain. Wrong. It's in a weird location and doesn't have particularly charming ambiance...but the food was outstanding. Fresh chips and salsa to start - great. We ordered some shrimp street tacos - fresh, light - homemade corn tortillas. Wonderful sauces to top with. Delicious. I had the Echiladas Suisas {recommended by another yelper}, great flavor, not too much cheese sauce, the green sauce was perfectly fresh and spicy. Refried beans are great as is the light mexican rice. Mister had fajitas with shrimp, steak & chicken - all juicy and flavorful. Two thumbs up. The first time I went here they were closed unexpectedly with no explanation. I had been upset but last night I got over it and asked my friends to go there with me. I am so glad I gave them another chance, because this place is AWESOME! They have all the taqueria classics like tortas, tacos, sopes, gorditas and aguas frescas... but they also had some gringo favorites like queso dip and fried ice cream. I even took an order of menudo to my husband and he loved it. I got 2 tacos al pastor and they were HUGE and delicious and one sope de carne asada which was also delicious. Was in Cinci for business and decided to find something close to my hotel for dinner. The food was fantastic and very reasonably priced! I had carne asada tacos and polo gorditas. If I were giving a review on just food, I'd give it three-star. The only issue that we had was that the chips were TERRIBLY stale. Decent salsa, guacamole, and main dishes. The issue was that this place was DISGUSTINGLY DIRTY. The floors were slick with grease and it looked as if they hadn't been swept or mopped in months; my husband almost fell walking out. There was a portable diaper changing pad behind the trash can touching a plunger in the bathroom. The tables themselves felt like pure grease and you could visibly see the grime caked on them. The high chairs had months of crumbs and dirt on them. I absolutely hate when waiters stack baskets on one another because you know they don't get cleaned well and they've been all over tables, floors, etc. and allll the baskets of our meals were stacked on one another The place was packed with what seemed like normal and clean people, so we chose to stay. I didn't think it was possible to have bad Mexican food but it happened today. I should have turned and left after seeing dirty floors and tables, but I was starving. The chips and salsa were served, those were good. It got a little messy and waitress did not bring napkins, had to get those myself. The ice tea I ordered was bland and tasted old. For the entree , I ordered the chicken burrito, topped in a mole sauce. It came ice box cold and it was so salty it was inedible. I explained that to the waitress who argued with me. I couldn't decide what to eat and honestly decided to try a few items across the board - I started with the pulled chicken tamale and hands down one of the most delicious tamales I've had in a LONG time. Great seasoning, packed with meat and just the right mixture of masa...no wonder pork was already sold out. Next up was the shrimp street taco - WOW! Large shrimp, tons of flavor- I would imagine their shrimp is delicious in any meal but it holds up on its own. For the main event I was served the Carnitas plate. I REALLY wanted to give this place 5 stars, but honestly the rice/beans were subpar...typical and didn't add anything to the dish or trend of outstanding flavors. Carnitas was okay - good flavor, would've just wished more to be shredded versus cubed and inconsistent in terms of tenderness - some pieces seem slightly overcooked, other absolutely perfect and those flavors really stood out. To start off the air conditioning was broken and the floors were so dirty you stuck to them when walking. The waitress began the meal by stating she would not get our drinks until she got our food order because the kitchen gets busy... there were maybe two other tables at that time. She also said they do not have water but only soda for purchase.. the food came on a broken plate with large chips on it. All of this was forgivable that maybe they were having a bad day until what happened next. We ordered fajitas (16.99) two tacos (3.00 each) and two sodas. They brought us a bill that was not broken down but for an amount of 74.09. When I questioned the amount the server became highly agitated and slammed the menu in front of me saying I could add it up myself.. it took awhile to get another employee to review and fix the check while sitting in the heat and filth. I truly believe they do this frequently since people will pay and not question if they are being cheated. Hands down this was the WORST experience my family has ever encountered at a restaurant. Always loved their food . Service not so much. I have told many people to come and eat here. but i will not go back. My last experience was not good. We are not Hispanic so that probably has something to do with it. We watched Hispanic families come in get their orders and were eating by the we even got our drinks. I had to ask to be waited on. I love Mexican authentic food . I make a lot of meals myself.. We are not a family that is picky..nor do we ask for plain, or No this, or NO that. My kids ordered taco 's. Reverse discrimination? It took over twenty minutes to receive four tacos with no silverware from a server who was extremely rude and unattentive. The Hispanic clientele were being treated completely the opposite. The beef taco meat was bland, with no flavor, so I got up with my empty salsa dish to get more salsa to put on the bland taco. I spread it onto the taco with my straw as my server just watched. The bleach blonde Hispanic server did not crack a smile, even once. If any of the Hispanic clientele fall prey to ICE, then this place might go out of business, as I have no reason to return. Now I know how minorities feel when they are discriminated against. Ironically, my husband is Hispanic and was denied service once back in the seventies. Too bad he was not with me today, as I might have received better service, if not better food. This has great Mexican food for a little town in Kentucky. I've been trying to find good authentic Mexican food that has not been hipsterized, and this hits all the spots. The wait staff has a Spanish accent, but speaks English decently. We came during lunch, and it slowly fills up so don't wait too long to show up! To drink I had some traditional horchata, which was delicious and served in a big ol' glass. Chips and salsa were served immediately and devoured quickly as the smells waft from the kitchen. Food came fast, and I highly recommend trying all the different tacos. They come fresh and two is enough for me, bit I can eat 3 with a little effort. They aren't the largest tacos (they are traditional Mexican sized) but their price reflects that. You can easily eat here for under $10 a person. I've been told that on Sundays they have mariachis come and play for a few hours, but I have yet to come on the weekends. read more

Dry, flavorless, but generously portioned food can sum up my overall experience here. I had passed by this place over the years and heard great things about it. Today, I had three tacos- Carne Asada, Pollo Asado (chicken), and Carnitas. The tacos came out with lots of meat, cilantro, and double-wrapped in a corn tortilla with radishes, lime, and cucumbers on the side. But only the Carne Asada was tender and juicy. The chips were standard Mexican restaurant quality, but the salsa was bland. Mixing in some of the hot salsa provided more kick, but no more flavor. On a positive note, the refried beans were very good and the service was friendly and attentive. But the flavorless food was very disappointing, which is a shame as this place has the potential to be a decent local spot for authentic Mexican fare. read more
