    Aguas frescas

Little gem in Downey across from The Downey Landing. We go often for the asada tacos. I like the meat because it's thin with hardly any fat; the corn tortillas are hand made to order. The Aguas are fresh and not too sweet! They don't have fountain drinks but you can get can soda or Mexican bottle sodas. It's clean, they're fast, and it's affordable.

I was in the area and crazing a breakfast burrito that I could eat in my car. This place came up on Yelp with mixed but mostly positive reviews. The big menu on the wall shows lots of breakfast plates and dinner plates that all cost about the same $10-$12. There is a smaller breakfast burrito menu that just lists the meats available. There is no price on this breakfast burrito menu but it turns out they are all $9.95, an average price these days. Hope it's big! After I ordered a machaca breakfast burrito, the cashier gave me some sandwich bags a cups so that I could help myself at the ample salsa bar (red and green salsa, marinated carrots, radishes, onions, and cilantro). The burrito was heavy and perfectly cylindrical. Inside there was lots of rice and meat and a little bit of eggs and beans. It was underseasoned but I couldn't tell whether it was the rice or the meat was lacking the flavor. Normally this would not be a problem because I have all that salsa to use, but I was driving so I have yet to try the salsa. Note to self: Next time try chorizo and say 'no rice'. Maybe I'll get more beans and egg inside. The atmosphere inside was not inviting. It was as cold inside- like 60 degrees. Also, everything looked old and cluttered, with no concept of design. I would only get food to go at this restaurant.

Food portions are definitely shrinking while prices are going up. Been coming here for years and I can tell the difference. And I have to say that their beans tasted like they were from a can. Not sure if that's the case or the cook on duty changed the recipe. There's usually a gentleman cooking. This last time I went, it was a lady. Staff is super friendly and place is kept clean.

To start off there's a sign out side that says the tortillas are hand made yea they're not they can literally be out if a Guerrero or mission tortillas bag I gotta say these are some of the greasiest tacos I've ever tasted and mind you my 300 plus pound body has had many the al pastor tasted like it came out can of chamoy sorry and they also go crazy on the onions it's like I ordered a meat taco not an onion ring taco the asada tacos were brutally greasy I still had slippery hands even after I washed em the tripa taco was the only decent one I would have given them a 3 instead of a 2 but for ordering just 4 tacos it took like 15 mins to make and there was hardly anyone there the dude probably went back to the fridge and re microwaved the meat for all I know.

the service was good, but the food was ok. The rice was cold. And a worker is a little noisy

They don't cheap out on drinks or food, and the quality is consistently great. Portions are generous, and you get far more sides and extras here than at most Mexican restaurants in the area. The staff of ladies who work here are phenomenal--warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. There is only one older gentleman I've seen be rude to customers, but aside from that single exception, the service is excellent across the board. I judge Mexican restaurants heavily based on how they make a Cadillac margarita, and this place absolutely delivers. Everything that comes out of the kitchen is perfectly cooked, plentiful, and clearly made with care. For me, this restaurant is a solid five out of five. It's one of those spots that deserves far more credit than it gets. If you're looking for quality, authenticity, and great value, it's worth a visit.

The meal started with complimentary chips served alongside both a sweet mole and a savory, tangy mole sauce. It was something I'd never experienced before, and it was incredibly delicious. I ordered the chicken enmoladas, and they were generously stuffed with chicken and smothered in rich, flavorful mole. Every bite tasted authentic, comforting, and incredibly satisfying. For dessert, our waiter recommended the plantains in tequila sauce paired with a café de olla. They were so amazing that we completely devoured the dessert before I even remembered to take a picture! As first-time visitors, my guests and I were genuinely impressed by the quality of the food, the authentic flavors, and the warm service. We'll definitely be back, and I highly recommend giving this place a try if you're craving authentic Mexican cuisine.

Service is attentive, the food has its charm with in-house made tortillas. It really was a hard review to write because all the elements of a great restaurant is embodied in this hidden gem. I chalk it up to ordering the wrong items. The flavors did not pop for me. Hubby opted for the chorizo and he said it was decent and he described it as "diet chorizo"--that he'd probably needed to go back to Sinaloa to capture the true essence of "real" chorizo, the way it's meant to be. The star of his meal was the in-house made flour tortillas-now that's authentic! This is/was the reason that it leaned towards a 4 star. These looked and tasted phenomenal. The aroma took me back to the times when we visited Rosarito's Puerto Nuevo, as the lady made the tortillas by hand & pressed them in the comal, ahh, good times. I ordered the vegetarian omelette with beans & potatoes. The omelette was decent with fresh bell peppers & onions but the seasoning was so mild that I requested for salt & pepper. The potatoes appeared well seasoned in color but lacked that oomph that salt & pepper couldn't fix. My apple pancakes were average. While I appreciated the strawberry compote, there was no apple or apple taste in them. To wash everything down, I had cafe de olla, that was good. The aroma of the brown sugar & cinnamon was ever present. Estrella, our server was very welcoming, attentive and friendly, she gets 5 stars for her service with a smile & hospitality. Their lunch & dinner menu looked very appealing but we wanted breakfast items. We wish we were both molé enthusiasts then perhaps we would've better appreciated & enjoyed those offerings. Both indoor & outdoor seating (front & rear), parking is free & shared with their liquor store at this corner small plaza. Beware, no restrooms available. I'm glad we gave this little shop a try.
