Eating out is pricy these days but decided to splurge and soooo happy we did. The restaurant is in an area with lots of one way streets but worth the challenge of getting there. They were out of the curry so I settled on the miso ramen, complete with egg. Did not disappoint. Husband had beef pho and he also was happy. We shared garlic edamame, excellent! And a Caesar salad, (Slightly disappointing except croutons were house made and still warm, great texture!) We topped the meal with the best tiramisu I've ever eaten. We dined at the restaurant on July 11. Yelp showed good review so we thought we would give it a try. The decoration was great. The pianist was a little loud but if this is okay with you. Our server Chris was great, super friendly and attentive. So what went wrong. The greeter was absolutely rude and unprofessional. I was about to walk away but we were tired from hiking that day so my family wanted to stay. The greeter refused our request twice to sit at a corner table for a party of six. We opted not to sit on high chair as none of us liked it. She basically rolled her eyes and questioned us twice of why and refused our request. The food is absolutely beyond typical. We are from Hong Kong and we expect nothing authentic at the place, as long as it tastes descent. For the atmosphere, it may score a point or two. But for the food flavor, save your money, go to any chinese fast food place, you will enjoy it as much and opposed to dining here. read more

Saw lots of recommendations for this place from people online so I knew I had to try it on my stop in Redding. The inside was very modern and nice, the service was great and the food was awesome. Portions were very big, almost family style sizes. You could definitely split a few dishes to split amongst a group. We started with the edamame and salt and pepper chicken, both were great. This place is ok for a small city. Nice modern decor and a big space. We started with tempura peppers, which was the best dish we had. The beef teriyaki rice bowl was pretty plain, but the beef was good. However the beef used in the pho soup was more like stew meat than sliced brisket. Nice wait staff. read more

Only knocking off one star because both the chili wontons and shishito peppers came out at room temp (probably from sitting there before getting to our table, but they were both delicious!). Asian fusion, pricy, somewhat authentic food. This place is bougie and trendy: $3.50 for hot tea. $12 for popcorn chicken $18 for small bowl of pho/Cantonese noodles $28 for garlic shrimp noodles. Although food and services were good, I would probably not return for that price when I can pay half that price for 100% authentic food. It's more of a place to been seen. Disappointing Experience We came here with high expectations after reading so many good reviews. Sadly, the food was a complete disappointment, especially the pork ramen, which was by far the worst. The pork broth ramen was nearly inedible. It was missing basic toppings like wood ear mushrooms and bamboo shoots, and the portion was tiny. The worst part? The broth was so salty it tasted like it came straight from the Dead Sea. We couldn't even take a second bite, it was completely uneditable. The miso ramen was slightly better but still bland and lacking flavor. For the price, we expected so much more. The pho tasted like reheated leftovers. The meat was tough, and the broth had no depth, just a flat, watered-down taste. The Taiwanese beef dish was the only one that was halfway decent, and only because of the beef. The sauce overpowered everything, and the rice had a strange, almost sour aftertaste. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was fine, which makes up the 2 stars,but that can't make up for food this bad. Definitely won't be returning, it was a waste of money and calories. read more

It was awesome! Such a classy vibe in there. The food was amazing and quick, and everybody was super helpful. We got the Calamari and Tuna appetizers, both were delicious. And then we had the Kalbi Bowl and the Truffle Fried Rice with Crab. Definitely plan on coming back the next time we are in town. read more

I have to post this, because I've never had this happen in any Restaurant anywhere in the World, and because "Redding Restaurant Reviews" killed it after the first hour (it was starting to go Nuclear)" We were at Taroko Redding last night, having dinner and enjoying some live Jazz Music, when the Hostess came to our table and told us "You've been here for one hour and 37 minutes now, and we need to set up your table for other guests". Keep in mind, this was before we had finished our meals, or were even asked about dessert? My reponse to the Hostess was "oh, so you've been timing us"? After she walked away, the Waiter came and asked us about dessert, and I said, "well, it looks like we won't have time for that, because they are kicking us out of here". He told us, "well I can get it out to you really fast"??? We asked neighboring tables of people who had come in at the same time we did if the Hostess had said the same thing to them, and they said "no". So apparently our table was "special"? They must have figured out that we were a little pissed off, and the owner eventually came to our table to "sort of apologize" (offered us a complementary glass of Champagne...no comp for our expensive dinner which was ruined), but confirmed after I pinned her down that this is what she tells the Staff to do. We had appetizers and drinks first.. Probably close to an hour before the main courses were served. Of course, I hadn't started my "stop watch" like the Hostess had, lol . Be advised, if you make reservations for Taroko Redding (especially at the table we were sitting at, which is "Prime Real Estate" for the Live Music)...they will be watching you, and they will be timing you. I love what Taroko has done with the space that they are in, and older building in downtown Redding on the Corner of Pine (273) and Placer streets. The inside of the building is modern and elegant, with a large Bar with many taps and top shelf spirits. Looking at the bar, it looks like they have over a dozen beers on tap, I noticed 805 and several local IPA's. The wine list had about a dozen selections as well. On the drive back to Sac from Burney, my friends and I stopped at Taroko, and it seems like the Asian spot to go! For our appetizer, we ordered calamari and it was very underwhelming. The calamari did not taste fresh and was a very rubbery, chewy texture. For my entree, I ordered the Spicy Taiwanese Beef Soup, which redeemed the experience a little bit. The beef was very tender and the soup was flavorful like an authentic Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup. My only con was that the noodles came clumped together, so it was a bit hard to eat. Stopped here on our roadtrip to Eureka. The restaurant is very nicely decorated, modern, beautiful lighting. We ordered the Kim chi fried rice, the Malaysian curry, and the scallion pancakes. The pancake was a little overcooked and hard. The best dish was the Kim chi fried rice which was flavorful. The curry wasn't authentic Malaysian seasoning, tasted more like India curry to me. Prices were on the higher side. They have a very good cocktail menu. The ambience is great and service was wonderful! I've been looking forward to trying this restaurant. Today was the day and I'm so disappointed. I ordered the Taiwanese Beef Noddle and after 2 sips I had to stop. It was greasy, and extremely salty. Beef could be tenderized a little bit more. The servers noticed that I barely touched my dish so they asked if everything is ok. I said, it is, I'll just take it home (thinking maybe I can just tweak it then). So I ordered scallion pancakes just so I can eat something. Another server passed by and asked if my noodle was salty, I said, yeah, it's a bit too salty or my liking. She said don't worry because another customer said the same thing. They took it off the tab which was nice. I ate 5 bites of the pancakes and it couldn't eat more of it. I would have given it 1 star but the service was nice. You read more
