I ordered vegetarian drunken noodles, this is my usual order at every Thai restaurant but I have never seen it without the sauce. These are plain noodles and severally overcooked. They rip when I try to lift them with the fork and they are completely flavorless. Stopped by here for lunch and they are doing a to-go only. Small place and feels like any other Thai restaurants. The uncle/cashier was friendly while he took my order. I ordered Evil prince with beef and Masamun curry with pork. I also bought Pad Thai with shrimps but haven't ate it yet. You can't get Evil prince at most Thai restaurants so I was pretty excited that they have this on the menu. Strong flavor just like how I like my Thai curry. As for Masamun curry, it's good but I would say Evil prince is better. I would love more peanuts in the Masamun curry though. I'm not from this area but I would stop by again to get my Thai cravings. This was my first time ordering from here and sadly this was not a good experience. We had our meal delivered to my place of employment through entrée express, and it arrived rather quickly. (will give one star for this) But I will give no stars for the food, at least my food. This was the most unsatisfying lunch I've ever eaten! The Drunken Noodles or Pad Kee Mao were more like 'watered down noodles'. The noodles were a bland color and flavor. I had four prawns, two pieces of broccoli with very little shredded cabbage and a few sprigs of shredded carrots, and chili flakes. Where were the rest of the veggies? Where was the flavor? Even though it's a small place, it has always been great for small gatherings, or an intimate evening meal. All the decor is beautifully representative of Thailand, and the menu is broad, and diverse. Evil prince with Chicken is my go-to. You can order the spice level you like (mild, medium, hot...I like it hot)! 30 years is a long time to frequent a restaurant, without a single disappointment. While the staff are friendly this place was pretty disappointing when it comes to the food. The spring rolls were very small and contained very minimal ingredients, no fresh herbs like mint or cilantro and no other greens. Each one had maybe 1 piece of shrimp, noodles, and some cabbage(I think?). The sweet and source sauce that accompanied it was decent, but the peanut sauce (arguably the best Thai dipping sauce) was runny. Next, the Evil-Prince curry, was very small; it was smaller than my order of white rice. It also lacked major flavor and probably wouldn't have had any flavor if I hadn't ordered it spicy. Spicy was not that spicy. Lastly, the white rice; should be the easiest thing to cook at a Thai restaurant, but it was over cooked! So mushy! Cons: to go containers are styrofoam. I know it cost them $0.11 per container and paper are $0.22, honestly I'd pay the extra to keep from creating the 300,000 yr old trash. His whole argument was layered, first building on fresh and crunchy shredded cabbage (speaking figuratively of course) and then softening with broken noodles, some veggies and then the pièce de résistance which brought me over to his side...the curry sauce. So in the end I did agree with the evil prince and take home an order of sweet sticky rice with mango...dessert, midnight snack or breakfast...works out well for all of them! Thank God for modern day cars with Navis and restaurant listings! I would never have tried or found this place on my own. First rule of travel should be eat the local cuisine, but in some of these towns I'm convinced all they eat is Fast Food Nation. Doing the I-5 run thru northern california getting tired of the fast food circuit and wanting to get a decent meal we narrowed our choices to Seafood or Thai (thus violating the 1st rule of travel - eat what is produced locally - ie no nearby Ocean or Thai immigrant populations). The place looks like a cinder block low rent bar from the outside - complete with bars & neon signage on the windows. Thai Cafe has 2 locations in the area. This must the be the original since everything is dated. Ordered the the Tom Kha soup, Pad Thai and the Eggplant Tofu. Everything was warm and fresh, but there was a total LACK of seasoning. I guess catering to the local Redding crowd has caused them to scale back the spicey factor (or maybe they just saw we were travelling with young kids). Informal. Shady Location. Great, Unorthodox Thai Food. I've been coming to the Thai cafe since I moved to the North part of the state. This place basically introduced me to Pad Kee Mow (Drunken Noodles), so it hold a special place in my heart. One thing to note here is that Thai Cafe doesn't serve what you would consider 'traditional' Thai Food that you're accustomed to. Their Drunken Noodles, for example, don't use the wide rice noodles...nor do they appear stir fried. It's still great, though. This is a hopping lunch spot, despite the kind of shady location. Parking is tough to come by around noon, but the food is worth the hassle! If you're up for something outside the box, give this place a try. read more

The service was fantastic. I did find what I wanted on the menu, although it seems a bit limited. The food was pretty okay, but not quite enough to warrant the price. The Thai ice tea wasn't as sweet or flavorful as I've become accustomed to elsewhere. The fried spring/Thai egg roll wasn't on the menu but they were willing to serve. I'm a sucker for massaman curry so maybe that's why I love this place so much. Their plate of it is especially delectable! Their vegetable soup starter is also amazing. It's hidden in a little place that doesn't make it look like what's inside will be good, but it is! Try it out. My only complaint is that I can't get enough of it! Thai Cafe is the place where my love of Thai food all started when I was a teen. I came here before and after I first went vegetarian. It's probably the first place I ever had tofu that was cooked properly, unlike the whole in the wall Chinese places. On my recent visit to podunk'ville I got to see if it stands up to the best of The Bay. My mom begged me to take her to Thai Cafe. Me being the good son, who am I to say no? You don't have to twist my arm to say yes to Thai! The pretty waitress was very patient and accommodating with our picky group of eaters. Where was she at back when I lived here? The food was brought out quick and the water always stayed full. The interior is filled with all manners of traditional looking Thai decorations. The deep fried tofu app was practically entree sized. Although it's a pretty basic dish, the included peanut sauce adds some zing. Their Spring Rolls are still deep fried perfection. Another vegetarian thing on the table was the Tom Yum. A delicious and zesty soup, dragged down by some nearly inedible bamboo shoots. The veg fried rice was ok but I wouldn't order it again. Way too "pasty" for my taste. I remember their green curry and the Evil Prince to be good but I didn't order it because I was saving room for dinner at another place that never materialized. I really wish I did! So it seems the first (as far as I know) Thai restaurant in town is still the best. It just isn't what I'm used to anymore. I'm afraid Thai Idea in SF http://www.yelp.com/biz/thai-idea-vegetarian-san-francisco-2 has ruined me for all other Thai places... I'll still make Thai Cafe a stop, whenever I'm in town. Hit and miss. While this is in my top 2 favorite Thai places here, I feel like the food is sometimes better some days than others. Their drunken noodles are sometimes dry and flavorless, but other times saucy and delish, so for the times it is delish, I give it 4 stars. their chicken satay is always a hit. Spring rolls are amazing. Curry always exactly what you order as far as spiciness goes. Peppered garlic chicken is also very tasty. For whoever says its "kid friendly", I beg to differ. Its usually pretty quite and I have had some glares from people when my 2 year old decides to start babbling. Red Robin is kid friendly, this place, not so much. Pricing: about $8-$15 per dish.
