    Watermelon Infused Lemonade

Was at the right place at the right time when the food truck pulled up! The service was on point and my infused watermelon lemonade was fire!! I'm new to Redding and Allen was so helpful in giving me local events and tips! I'm definitely going to try the restaurant next date night!!

Go in hungry, or stay home. Sap House will fill you up. I've been reading about this place and finally made it in to try. Sap House doesn't disappoint. I got the sapritto burrito with sweet chili sauce. Very tasty. I love that they use sticky rice. Next time I need to choose a spicier sauce, the sweet chili is a little too The menu has some intriguing options that I want to go back for, especially the philly cheese steak fries. It's a small restaurant, but we got there early enough to beat the lunch rush. The staff was friendly and the food came out relatively quickly. I'll be going back. Update a couple of weeks later: just need to add in here how amazing a philly cheese steak and fries burrito is. Seriously. Go get one. Now.

Turns out "ma der ma der" means "come on come on" in Laotian and "sap" means "delicious". Stumbled upon this little Laotian-fusion gem in Redding while doing work in the area and saw the 5-star rating on Yelp. And BTW no, my "work" is not dealing meth, which seems to be a major hobby in Redding. After finding parking, I walked into the tiny 4-table restaurant and asked the owner, Alain, what he recommended. He said I should try the Sapritto which is a play on the Spanish word for little donkey and the previously mentioned Laotian word for delicious. You can go for the sapritto in a tortilla or a bowl so I went with the bowl. Then he asked what sauce I wanted. I said I'd go with the Thai chili sauce. Then he paused and gave me a disclaimer about how spicy it was. And to prove it he gave me a sample of it. Let's just say, holy balls was he not kidding. It was good but I knew that if I ate a spoonful I'd be shitting at every toilet on the 3-hour drive back to the East Bay. So he told me that he could do a mixture of 20% Thai chili and 80% mild roasted jalapeño sauce. This combo was magic. The sapritto came with Lao sausage, marinated tri-tip, mushrooms, bell peppers, and onions over rice that was topped with two fried eggs and the "sap" sauce. Honestly, this bad boy was really sappy! Grubbed and killed it. Looks like Ma Der Ma Der Sap has been open since the Fall of 2016 and I can see why they are so highly rated. The food is really good, particularly for Redding. On top of that, I think the high rating has to do with the charisma of Alain who is like the Eddie Huang of the 530. * Ma Der Ma Der Sap is open Monday through Saturday from 10 to 7.

    Blackened Shrimp tacos 9/2019

My first time at The Sap House. I ordered the blackened shrimp tacos and a Thai iced tea. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and had great flavor. Everything was made fresh to order. This is the reason for the 4 's. If they brewed their own thai iced tea instead of using the powdered stuff and they used cabbage instead of the 2 tons of limp soggy lettuce in the tacos, it would have been 5's. I would recommend trying The Sap House to anyone, as I will be trying them again soon.

Great food!!! I got the dirty cheese steak fries and I will be back for more. The employees are incredibly personable and nice. I have a tip before I was even finished ordering! When I came back to order a Thai tea the employee on register insisted I just pay for it with my tip... NO WAY JOSÉ! Great service gets rewarded. They earned my tip and my continued business. I cannot wait to come back and try more.

It was lunchtime during our trek on I-5. After stumbling across the laudatory reviews of Ma Der Ma Der San House, I decided to stop there. After a short detour into downtown Redding, we pulled into the parking lot of this small eatery. There were many tempting options on the menu, including the highly acclaimed Redding Cheese Steak Sub ($9.99), Philly Cheese Fries ($9), and Shrimp Pad Thai ($9). We decided on the Lao Sausage Tacos ($9), Blackened Shrimp Tacos ($7.50), and Thai Iced Tea ($3). We followed the sap sauce recommendations from guy who took our order: sweet chili sauce for the blackened shrimp, and honey sriracha for the Lao sausage. You get two large tacos per order, served in a styrofoam clamshell container. The sauces complemented the tacos perfectly, adding a balanced combination of sweet and tangy highlights. The Thai iced tea was sweet and creamy, with the familiar signature flavor of the black tea and spices soothing the palate. Service was friendly and the prices are fair. I highly recommend this establishment!

Man.. the Sapritto is the truth!!!! It was so flavorful and juicy, didn't need any of the side sauce at all. The guys working were really nice and conversational as well. I'm going back in a bit just to try their pad thai. I know they won't disappoint with that. But like they recommended me, try the Sapritto if it's your first time! I got it with the Honey Sriracha sauce, which is the most popular, but personally didn't really like it for the honey flavor (personal preference though). I'm going to ask for the sweet chili sauce this time. Definitely try it out! I'm guaranteed it will satisfy!

Update: The flavors consistently wow me. Five Stars achieved. Love that this place is in Redding. I'm convinced the line would be out the door if they opened up shop in SF or Pasadena, CA ...some hip place like that with excellent food. Delicious food and cool dudes with great service.

My coworkers recommended this place, so I decided to give it a try. Both the restaurant and parking lot were tiny. I can recall about 5-6 parking spaces and was fortunate to even find one spot for myself. As for the food, I ordered a sapritto since that was the most popular item. It had a decent amount of tri-tip and Lao sausage. The problem was that it was bland. I could taste some sweetness, but that was it. Since the sapritto came with a sauce (I asked for the house sauce, which has cilantro, jalapeño, garlic, and oil), I drenched my sapritto with it, hoping that I could at least taste SOMETHING. Sadly, the sauce was just as bland, and the sapritto remained tasteless. The good news is that it was filling for $10, but it seriously needs some salt, sour, and spicy added to it. The fries tasted like five guys fries. The fries were a mix of soggy and crunchy, but at least they were pretty good. I could taste a little bit of chili that was sprinkled on them. There were 2 employees working at the time, and they were friendly. There was also ventilation inside the restaurant, but it wasn't effective. Having just washed my hair that day, I left the place smelling like tri tip. Overall, I was not that impressed. Mai sap der mai ma laew der!

This place made me happy to have gotten a flat on my motorcycle (stuck in Redding). Most creative & delicious menu I've seen in ages! Only had time to try the Sappritto. So filling! Love the mouthfeel of the sticky rice. And the fried egg binds it all together. I tried the Thai Chili & also the Roasted Jalapeno sauces. Excellent counterpoint. I hope they add a sour sauce to the choices, too... like kaffir lime or tamarind might be nice. Don't miss this tiny original family run place with a great vibe & really fun affordable eats! Plenny outdoor seating, too!

Although I had already brought lunch from home, I decided to give it a shot--and I'm so glad I did! I ordered two carne asada street tacos, which cost around $8-9. Menu was easy to read. The girl who took my order was incredibly friendly and helpful, offering suggestions like different sauce spice options and asking if I preferred it spicy on the side so I can adjust the level of spice. She made sure my order was perfect. They gave me a vibrating/beeping mechanism to alert me when my food was ready, and it only took about 5 minutes. The tacos were well worth the short wait.
