This is my go-to bakery any time I'm driving through Hollywood. Although they have lots of options for lahmajoon and byoreks, it's the spicy byorek that keeps on bringing me back. It's long, cheesy, and spicy, in a freshly baked bread. You must also get an Armenian Tan (yogurt drink) to go with it, as it makes a great combination. How much do I like this place? I dropped by here yesterday, starving after manning the Yelp booth at the Los Feliz Street Festival. I've read about the lahmajune and how good it was so naturally I had to try for myself. 2 lahmajune, 2 spinach boerak. Holy mother of god. So damn good. The lahmajune was light and the spinach boerak had a nice kick to it. I drove home and the only think I could think about the rest of the night were these damn lahmajune and taron bakery. It's 6:30am on a Sunday morning and I'm counting down the minutes until this place opens. 1 1/2 hours later, I'm in the bakery ordering 6 lahmajune, 2 meniesha, 2 meat boerak. Breakfast. I love this place. It's cheap, lahmajune can be had for .90, meat boerak for $2.50. For about $4, you can have yourself quite a meal. Oh man. I stumbled upon this place while going to the bakery across the street. I went on a Sunday afternoon so all they had left was meat pizza and cheese borek. I tried one of each (everything was $3.25) and both were really hot and fresh. I liked the meat pizza better. It was on the salty side, but tasty! I've been to every single place that sells lacmahcun in LA and they're all $1 but the difference is the lady working in the front all day. She might not have a lot to say but she cares. I came in this morning with $2 and I normally order 10+ lamahcuns but she gave me 4 instead of just 2. She just smiled and continued about her business but it made me happy the whole day. Cheap and tasty! A rustic styled wood sign hangs on the wall, with all 9 items. I prefer the Lahmajune at a bargain basement price of $0.90. I guess this is the "Armenian Pizza" people refer to. Me on the other hand would consider this more of an "Open Face Quesadilla". They have this really tasty meat concoction they spread on top of a roundly cut piece of lavash, (which is similiar to a flour tortilla), then they throw it in their monster oven, which you can watch them do. This is how I eat a Lahmajune: 1) Man handle it. Firmly place it in 2 hands, like a stripper giving a lap dance! There's no bouncer, so you can perform this move at Taron. 2) Fold it. Like an "Armenian Taco". 3) Then slowly place into your "Armenian Pizza" hole, then bite, and chew. I've tried the Cheese, Spicey Cheese, and the Spinach Beoreks as well, which are just as deliciously appetizing. This place specializes in traditional Armenian street food, which includes lahmajun (thin crispy flatbread topped with ground meat and spices), boreks (think a calzone without the tomato sauce), and khatchapuri, which is basically w croissant stuffed with cheese and spinach. Look, there isn't much to say that hasn't been said already. If you enjoy delicious food, you really can't go wrong with Taron Bakery. I legitimately love walking into the small, gated entrance, pulling out a $5 bill, and leaving with more than enough food than is necessary for me to eat in one setting. But I do. I always eat way too much when I'm here. The cheese boreg is salty inside, fluffy outside; the lahmajun (basically flat bread Armenian meat pizza...amazing) is never greasy and always satisfying. If you happen to speak Armenian, the lovely woman at the front register will converse with you with a big smile on her face. Dear yelpers, please shush up about service! Ethnic places with immigrant workers serving immigrant communities operate the way they do in their countries of origin. It's not that they're being rude to you, it's that your standard for service is different. Found myself stranded in this neighborhood at 730 in the morning. Needed food and coffee. This place was close so went looking for oatmeal or yogurt and iced tea for her, coffee and sweets for me. I guess I went to wrong place...nothing sweet, no tea, no coffee...nothing but RUDE employees. I explained I didn't know about their food, but no explanation was offered...it was like "If you don't know what you want, why are you in my bakery?" I asked if their were other options nearby due to dietary restrictions and was only afforded a shrug and scowl. I said, "your service is so bad I don't even want to spend money here! On a positive note - hence the 2 stars - the bottled water was pleasantly chilled. Since I didn't know anything about their products, and the lady behind the counter (probably in her 30s, with a look, demeanor and attitude of an 80 year old) to give me whatever is best...I ended up with some cheesy bread thing with no further description from the unpleasant hostess. A fine coating of olive oil brings it all together. One spinach and one spicy cheese feeds two for $4.50.
