Stopped in the store on Thursday July 24, Wanted to try on a pair of slacks that I saw hanging rack outside, but they told me that anything on the rack outside is not allowed to be tried on which makes totally no sense after I've been a for almost 10 I shop there anymore. The sales people are rude. They're not nice. They're pushy and clothes are overpriced, I will not be shopping there again not that they care because their prices are such high rip offs I would suggest people going to other stores in the neighborhood I give them a zero and the sales lady with the dark hair is the nastiest person ever !!!! She actually grabbed the my hand when I was stepping into the dressing room the most rudest sales person I have ever encountered she should be fired. That's no way to treat a customer.... the first initial in her name starys with an A & she has dark hair.... Please there are too many other nicer shops around the neighborhood to go Pookie and Sebastian on 2nd Ave. instead. This place does not belong in the UES. My daughter and I were shopping around our neighborhood, we tried to walk in at 1:30pm today ( when the store hours are at 10:45am) The woman at the front yelled at us, in a rude and demeaning way that they were closed, meanwhile the door was open with a sign that said open. What a dump this place is. Not at all deserving to be in our neighborhood with such subpar etiquette and customer service. I hope they get evicted to make way for stores that deserve to be in the UES and their clientelle. Just disgusting. Avoid at all costs. read more

Ive was a customer of taroo on the old store. they have a couple of good things such as the jeans and current air items. why three stars? because they sell alibaba items that would cost 15 dollars for 150. The last time i was there they had counterfeit dior and chanel bags (written dior/ chanel/ hermes/ sold for 400 dollars. Whomever is the buyer for the store has good taste- I wish they stuck to clothes that are not prohibited to sell. I do have quality items from them, however the counterfeit bags/ hats/ jewelry I am no fan- especially since its the exact same that you can purchase on a china second rate website. lastly, most items are current air (they keep insisting its Remy Brook inspired and only theirs). The sales (racks all under 50 dollars) are worth checking out, as well as their jeans. aside from that it's a waste of money. read more

Shopped here a few times. Same sales women each time, Alison, and she was very helpful. However, the sweater I bought in my most recent trip was relabeled. When looking at the wash instructions, the tag is clearly from H&M. The original H&M top tag was clearly cut out. I probably paid 4x the real price. Disappointed all around. Went in at 11:30am today and sales lady put her hand on her hip and rolled her eyes and said "can you just do a quick look I need to go." I did not get a hello. I did not get a thank you for stopping in. I did not even get an I am so sorry but something came up, we would love to have you back another time , I hate to do this to you etc. (that I would have understood!). I had a mixed experience with this boutique but ultimately, the owner wanted me to be satisfied with the merchandise. The major thing about this store is that their return policy is exchange only and you may not realize this. The main saleswoman will bully you until buying things that you later will silently thank her for. I overpaid for several items in this store but consider the extra price to account for the built-in personal styling you get from the salespeople. I am someone who is overwhelmed by options in department stores, even if there are better deals. I also CANNOT shop online. Bottom line: you'll look amazing as you light your money on fire. As someone who generally tries to support small businesses, I would advise anyone to STAY AWAY. The owner herself was incredibly rude to me since I had a stroller in the store. She pushed me into buying shirts without trying them on stating that I could return whatever I didn't like... just hurry up because the stroller took up room in the closet of the store. She rang me up for everything I looked at, instructing me to try them on at home then return what I didn't like. When I came back the next day to return two of the shirts I was told that I can only get store credit now. The cashier moved an enormous plant away from the wall where there was a sign saying returns are only for store credit. This would have been nice to know when the owner was encouraging me to "try things on at home" the day before. To top things off, when I got home the shirts had been "relabeled" with their tags on a very cheap brand. The shirt I posted lasted two washes before it started to shred. I stay away from this place because of the shoddy quality of the clothes and the unethical business practices. read more

Tired of paying Hampton-heady prices at Big-Drop and Scoop and I won't name all of them that line Third Avenue? Exhausted your finds at Pookie-and-Sebastian and maybe you're looking for something less 'out-there' but still fresh and cute? Taroo rarely disappoints. If you're like me and always fluctuate between two jean sizes they also have some great non-labels that have a lot of stretch and are forgiving until you get back into your size 4's - or whatever. The jeans are very reasonably priced and look a lot more expensive than they are. Don't limit yourself to blue jeans. In season, they have corduroys as well as the classic white jean and other colors you wouldn't have thought of. Their tops and cute little jackets are equally adorable and wearable, and if you're in a hurry to put together an outfit for a last minute date, meeting or vacation this is a great all-in-one-stop to shop. They even have bags, belts, shoes and other accessories, so you won't have to deal with a big department store when you're just not in the mood. Their pieces are well made and last incredibly well, and you will not see yourself coming and going in the same threads as everyone else; with the monograms that announce that you have no fashion confidence. Check them out when you're in my neighborhood (and they have two other outposts). You will always find something cute and irresistible as well as usable. The staff is very helpful and will give you their honest opinions as you try on the garments: so don't be bashful and ask a lot of questions - they are glad to be of assistance. (They will also call their other two stores for you, if an item is out of stock). There's always something new, so check back often! read more

TERRIBLE experience here - bought several items here and at the Taroo 2 (kids store 1480 First Avenue) and found out the clothes that i bough here were in fact TARGET brand, they ripped off the target label and attached their own and conveniently priced the items at a much higher price than i'm sure i would've gotten at Target. I am extremely disappointed at this "re-branding" and when i called the store i was told that the owner "most likely will not call me back" b/c apparently this isn't an issue worth calling me back about. I shop at an UES boutique to get clothes that are different (not the entire world is buying) and trendy and hopefully better quality than what i could get at a Target. this is extremely disappointing to say the least. I'm sorry that others had such bad experiences here. I guess I lucked out, wandering into this teensy store on a slow afternoon, while the salesperson was eating her lunch at the counter. She graciously paused her lunch to give me a quick rundown of the store. I mentioned that I'd been looking for a good, basic grey or black cardigan and she immediately pulled out their signature jersey wrap-around sweater. She showed me lots of different options for wearing/wrapping the sweater, selling me on its machine-washability. This is another of those stores where the attitude of the manager has forced me to say I would not shop there. I was there twice. The first time it was in the evening just at about closing time. The manager was standing outside looking at the windows. My wife and I started to enter - it looked cute and we have grandchildren who might do well there. The manager, in a very good natured and friendly way said, "We're closing - unless you are definitely buying something." We told her we were just looking and she told us to come back another time. I thought it was short-sighted, but shrugged it off. Two weeks later we came back with our grand daughters. They loved the store (ages 5 and 7). The manager same one) was friendly and talkative. Our kids were sitting on the floor, about to try on some sandals and the manager admonished them, "Unless you are buying that pair, do not try them on - your feet will leave an indent in the sole." Huh? I realized that she is friendly and nice but not very consumerist. And not in the least interested in winning friends for the store. We left and will never go back read more

I bought a faux fur jacket from you that I liked for my child and subsequently didn't like what I paid for it ($184 less 20%) when I found the real label on the jacket masked by your Taroo label and YES found it on line for $32! Horrible and yes disgusting! What I think is horrible is your claim that I called with threats. Not true! I called your sales girl the next am at opening and wanted to return my jacket for a full refund! I didn't want store credit in a store whose prices I now know are marked up the way they are. I did offer her $50 for the jacket as I told her because I know you pay rent in Manhattan (I had 4 stores in NYC), if not I wanted my money back! You hid the true label of the jacket and masked it as $184 jacket!!! RIP OFF! You may not be able to compete with online store pricing (since I no you found the online price hence your mention of the online store pricing and not being able to compete). Actually Sal F the one I should of bought was from Bloomingdales by a company called Heartloom for $200 and is real fur! I will be at the shows in the coming weeks and will ask for the exact wholesale price of the jacket I bought and photograph it if its there or something similar by OLIVACEOUS. Even on sale with 20% off, that jacket was not the fair and honest retail price! Your robbing your customers and those of us who work hard and trust small businesses like you. You rip us off!!!
