We were on that side of town yesterday visiting grandma and we're trying to decide on what to grab for dinner to feed 5 of us. Once we decided on pizza we started searching and realized quickly that we didn't have a lot of options for good pizza in the area. After reading the reviews we decided to try Tastebud. Ordering online and setting the pickup time was really easy. Our pizza was ready right on time and the staff was super friendly. We really enjoyed the pizza and love the fact that it is wood-fired which makes a huge difference but the real hit with our group was the ranch! We're visiting Multnomah Village, for the First Friday event. We were hungry the Tastebud pizza was the closest one, I thought we'd give it a try. Negatives: The salad, out of package, I had the same one from another venue, the leaves were large, and dressing was too thick, you couldn't mix in with the salad. I dipped mine, but the large leaves gets very little and too large for the mouth! Positive: Order was taken very quickly. Restaurant was very busy. Our take-out will be ready in 45 mins. And it was! Pizza tasted pretty good, even cold pizza for lunch the next day. The napkins that came with the pizza to-go were huge and greatly appreciated. Note: I never thought I would like lots of meat, since I'm more into veggies very little meat pizza. When I was pregnant, I was told to avoid eating pizza, they're hard to digest. Ordered two pizzas to go and they were ready when we arrived. Found parking right out front. The pizza was well cooked. The sauce was not quite taken out enough from the center and the flavor combos were not my preference. However, it is the only pizza that has not spiked out blood sugar street eating. My family and friends stopped by Tastebud , we have heard my great things about there Pizza and chill atmosphere. They did not disappoint. They are located in downtown Multnomah Village off of SW 35th Ave and Capital Highway next to the Bishops Barber shop. Street parking is a hit and miss around this area plan ahead to find a spot. As you walk in you are greeted by a very friendly staff. The decor is very clean with exposed ceiling beams within an open kitchen and ample seating options. The menu has 9 menu options of pizzas but they are flexible in creating a Pizza to your liking. We ordered three pizzas, The classic spicy, The Peachzza and the Subterranean . Each had great flavor, all are 16 inch, crust is nice and crispy, even with so many different toppings, cheese and meat options we did not see much moisture or grease runoff which is very much appreciated. These are some of the great findings during our first visit. The Spicy Classic, we added pepperoni and Sausage, it also includes Calabrian chiles, tomato sauce, mozzarella, ricotta and parmesan cheese. The Peachzza has sliced peaches, jalapeños, basil,mascarpone, mozzarella. Cheese. The Subterranean was loaded, roasted cremini mushrooms, thyme,fresh mozzarella, pecorino,mozzarella and breadcrumbs we added bacon, this pizza was very filling. They have salad options and a few wine, beer and cider options. I had a King cola from Bone yard. Housemade sodas - Tropical pineapple & Blueberry - interesting! Neither really taste like the flavor they say they are but, that said, I enjoyed both. Light, refreshing and not overly carbonated. Definitely worthwhile especially on a hot day. Half Carnivore and half peach jalapeño panchetta - WOW! I get now why their pizzas are such a great hit! The crust is light and chewy and they deserve an extra star just for their risk in trying such unique artisan combos. The Carnivore was flavorful and perfectly balanced. The peach was also unique in its own way. The peaches themselves, harvested locally, rival the best I've had in Georgia. Oddly enough, in the pizza they lost some of their flavor but that was okay as the jalapeño added the missing dimension. Don't even think twice about adding the pruscetto as it added the final touches to round it out. If you're worried about it being too hot, try their homemade ranch. Think of it like a green goddess dressing with a smokey dill flavor. I actually preferred it with the Carnivore. Service - we ate outside and had Billy as our server He was extremely personable and, you could tell, very seasoned. He had influence on bringing back the restaurant after covid and we're all glad he did! Lots of folks were getting pizzas to go and a local haunt! We appreciated all of his guidance with food selections. Ask for him by name and you won't be disappointed with service! I'm curious now to try out the other pizza combos, I'm hooked! 4-4.5 stars but gladly rounded up to five for their bravery to try unique twists as stated above. FYI - they sadly don't make bagels anymore BUT if you sign up for their newsletter you can be in the loop with their take home kit for bagels during the holidays. We get the spring salad, classic pizza with pepperoni, black olives and mushrooms with delicious homemade ranch! They have special drink menus for everybody NA and A.. We decided to do pizza for thanksgiving. We have been here once before and really enjoyed it. They have some very interesting combos, just what we were looking for. A non red sauce pizza with no meat. We got the pesto with delicata squash, we added mushrooms. It was very delicious! The crust is really good, with big bubbles, chewy and a good amount of flavor. It is thin crush but not flimsy, which we like about it. No rolling like NY style. It had goat cheese and mozzarella. I'm not a fan of goat cheese, but this did not bother me at all. They have nice big slices, and the whole pizza is a good large size as well. We will be back. I hope they make some bagels someday. I called to get some details about the pesto and they were friendly and explained everything down to the small details. We live around the area and we're walking thru Multnomah Village when we stumbled across Tastebud. We already had dinner plans so we decided to buy some of their bread to eat the next morning. We got the hearth focaccia with corn, jalapeño, pickled peppers, mozzarella, and pecorino and a cinnamon babka. The focaccia was so airy and decadent ,even the next morning. The flavors are distinct, but not overpowering that lets you continue enjoying the bread without making you feel any regrets. The cinnamon babka was amazing as well. It is a great dish to have in the morning with a cup of coffee. It has a nice subtle sweetness to it, which is great because I typically don't like things super sweet. Tastebud looks like it's doing takeout or not, and not sure if/when they'll open up dine in again, but they do have a few outdoor tables if you want to eat there. read more

Tastebud has been a great place to stop for pizza for years, but when I saw they had a booth at the Multnomah Days Street festival today with bagel sandwiches I knew I had to stop and try. I went with the #4 tomato and pesto and it was a great walking snack as I checked out the rest of the vendors. I got there right when the festival started so I got my sandwich very fast after ordering, but with how great their food is and with being parked right outside their own restaurant, I won't be surprised if they gather a significant crowd the rest of the festival. read more

First, this isn't a standard review, because the specialty is pizza, and I'm celiac, so I can't even have the pizza! :( But I absolutely love the salads! They have wonderful Caesar and other expected salads, but they also make their own absolutely different kinds of salads. They use all kinds of vegetables you wouldn't expect, like turnips and rutabaga -- beautifully, crunchy -- and beets annd baby kale, and their dressings are seriously to die for-- someone puts a lot of thought into the perfect complement for all those unexpected vegetables! They make their own sodas for things like fresh, blueberries, and they also have great wines. Last things: it's very sweet and cozy inside, the kitchen smells incredible, and they're owned and operated by really friendly and interesting people -- you'll feel absolutely welcomed when you walk in the door. I have been to this place several times both before and after the pandemic. The pizza is very good although not up there with Apizza Scholls or Kens. The service is adequate. The reason for my bad review is the arrogance of the staff. Tonight, I was there with my son and grandson for a relaxing family pizza dinner. We ordered drinks and appetizers. After about 30 minutes the "bartender" informed us that there was a 90 minute table limit so we should order soon. The place was 1/2 full. We had a similar experience with the same jerk about 6 months ago who at 8:15 PM rushed us to finish our drinks and settle the tab. In my 70+ years I have never had a similar experience at any restaurant anywhere. Tastebud will not get my business ever again. read more

This is a great little location that has takeout pizza, bread, and bagels, available. It is a lovely family oriented business. Their pizza is very tasty, and innovative. When I walked by there on the weekends, their bread and bagels look delicious. On the weekends, they have bagels and sandwiches available from 10 AM to 1 PM. My family and I got bagel sandwiches yesterday, the works, and a egg and bacon bagel. I have been looking forward to the sandwiches! Unfortunately, we were sadly disappointed. There is minimal toppings on the bagel sandwiches, and I found that this is some thing that I can make myself. Really cute bagel spot with reasonable prices. They play great music so I sat in the sun for a bit. Drove by this little spot on my way back from fairmount run and decided to try the bacon sandwich (they only make bagel sammie's on Saturdays so I feel like it was meant to be!) Sesame bagel tasted somewhat of a Montreal bagel, and was loaded with the perfect mix of honey cream cheese, huckleberry jam, crispy homemade bacon, and arug! This is my perfect kind of spot. Excellent! We got the pesto and the margarita and we're so satisfied that no pictures were taken. They also had a few loaves of ciabatta left( Friday only!) and I couldn't resist the urge to get one to snack on through the weekend. I look forward to trying Tastebud's bagels soon on a Sunday. Tried Tastebud Pizza for the first time today after learning about their reopening after a 5-year closure (credit to the 40-year wifey)! I will say this is definitely in my top 3 pizza places in the US and maybe even ever. SO delicious. Crust is perfectly crisp outside and has the best consistency inside-- soft and slightly chewy. All of the individual toppings seemed to have their own specific marinade/taste. Just a great pizza, albeit on the pricey side. It'd be much tastier fresh out of the oven, but alas, covid times call for covid measures so we just flash heated it on super high as soon as we got home. It's definitely the most expensive pizza I've ever had, but also one of the tastiest. Would return and do recommend. read more

Holy snaps... I had no idea this place was going to be as amazing as it was. This was easily one of my favorite restaurant experiences in Portland. For appetizers, we had Brussels Sprouts, Garlic Bread, and the Kale Cesar salad. The kale salad and the garlic bread exceeded my expectations. The brussels sprouts were standard, but still tasty nonetheless. We tried three incredible pizzas: Vegan squash pizza Apple and sausage pizza Pepperoni and pickle pizza My favorite one was the apple and sausage pizza, but I had already stuffed my face with appetizers and the other two pizzas, so I didn't have much of it. The vegan one had a bit of a spicy kick which made it so much more appealing. Lastly, we ordered two bottles of red wine: a chianti and a red blend. Both of the wines were great, so I don't know who does the orders, but they've made some excellent choices. read more

This review is only about the bagels. Some years ago I would get bagels from Tastebud's mobile bakery at farmer's markets. And they were superb! The term "Montreal-style bagel" was new to me, but they were terrific -- a little smaller than New York style, a little sweeter, but still with the classic crusty exterior and chewy interior -- plus they had a nice char from the wood oven. I believe the cart disappeared, or it did from my life anyway, long ago. For awhile I was going to another cart -- Bundy's Bagel's off Hawthorne -- but alas, that also has closed. Henry Higgins' are pretty good, and I go there regularly, but when I heard that Tastebud was operating again, from a shop in Multnomah Village, I decided to go get some. Getting some of these is not the easiest task! They bake bagels only once a month, on a Sunday, and you have to order ahead and pick up between 10 am and 1 pm. I finally found a bagel Sunday that worked for my schedule, and convened some friends for a bagel brunch with all the trimmings. And I am sorry to say these bagels ain't what they used to be! They're kind of dense and bready, not bagel-y. They're edible, better than supermarket bagels. But nothing to write home about, or trek to deep SW Portland for if you live on the other side of town. read more

It's been years, but I finally made it back here. It is even better then I remember. The restaurant is definitely a neighborhood favorite. With the lights dimmed down it makes it super cozy and hard to leave. I ended up spending over two hours here with a friend. A great place to share dishes with friends, which makes it seem a little less spendy then it is, lol! There menu each night is made up of the fresh local ingredients that they get from the farmers market, I love that! Get here early! The restaurant is on the smaller side and they don't take reservations. There was a constant wait the entire time I was there. I got there at 4:45 right before they open the doors at 5, which was perfect because the restaurant filled up within 20 mins. To start we ordered the fire roasted castelvetrano olives. I've never had something like that before. Taking such a simple thing like olives and fire roasting them really elevates the dish. Next a small order of there version of a Caesar salad. They use finally chopped kale and focaccia croutons, so yummy. And last but definitely not least a roasted mushroom pizza with mozzarella, provolone, ricotta, roasted garlic, rosemary, honey, and lemon. Omg! This was an okay experience for us. The guy at the front door is great. He told us our seats would be ready in 45 minutes and it was maybe 25 before we were seated. I noticed he did this with several other people, and I feel that it is always good to over estimate the time, rather than under estimate. Good job! We were offered drinks and we sat in the teenie tiny entry while waiting for our table. When we were seated the server came over and got our drink orders. She was probably one of the most disinterested and borderline rude servers I have had in a while. Very spotty service and almost seemed put out when I asked for more water. Mind you...the water glasses are very small, and other tables had carafes. I asked for a refill on my water for the third time (I was thirsty), and she finally said she would bring a carafe. She never brought a carafe. I was looking around for someone to fill my water glass for the fourth time, and one of the other servers stopped and asked if I needed anything. She then filled my water glass and brought a carafe. She was lovely, and we all looked at each other and said we wished that she was our server. The pizza was just okay, but I did have a really great winter lettuces salad. I would probably go back just for that salad! All in all it wasn't a terrible experience, but definitely not a great one. There are other pizza places in the area that I prefer and I'm sure we will go there when we are back in Portland again. read more

Great cocktails! Not a great pizza. But I will say the dough was excellent texture and flavor! The toppings on the Yoder pizza didn't work together. We brought the pizza home thinking we could doctor it to fix it since the dough was good. A little homemade tomato sauce made it better. I might go back to try something else but I hesitate because of the price tag. Maybe in the next couple months the menu will get ironed out. The space is small so I imagine it will be busy and difficult to get a table once people find out it's here. Overall it was comfortable and pleasant atmosphere. read more

I am a lover of (almost) all bagels. If you toast a hunk of carbs and spread it with cream cheese, I will probably like it. For this reason, I was excited to see the elaborate display of wood-fired bagels at Tastebud. They use seasonal ingredients on their menu, and the bagel with honey cream cheese and peaches sounded like the perfect end of summer treat. It looked fantastic, but when the cashier handed it to me I knew I was going to be disappointed...it was served cold. I guess I thought with that beautiful wood oven in the background, they would give it a little reheat before they spread on the cream cheese. The bagel itself was hard, so hard that It was difficult to take a bite out of it. It had the texture of a day (or two) old bagel.
