The food was great but the waitress was rude and acted like it was the end of the world when she had to split mine and my co workers checks into 3 separate parties. She never asked us if we wanted the check together or separate. She seemed like she had a stick shoved where the sun doesn't shine. When we asked to have it separated she didn't respond huffed and then went to do it. I didn't tip her anything. I'll spend my money somewhere else to avoid that energy vampire of a waitress. read more

We came in for a late night meal on Sat night and we were immediately greeted with a friendly smile by a staff member and given menus and told to sit where anywhere. Even tho we're not sporty, we liked the spacious atmosphere (there were TV's in every booth!) and the food was well prepared and tasty. Met a out of town friend for lunch. We found things on the menu to eat. No one was disappointed - perfectly fine bar food. The noise at lunch was a reasonable background for catch-up conversations. Chairs / booth were comfy. Service was good, the speed thats snappy but not rushed. So sure why not, casual, decent prices and food, good service and ample parking. And- it's a sports bar so many flickering screens but at acceptable noise levels. Would be fine eating there again. read more

The guys behind the bar are great. There's one gal who's essentially makes you feel like an a-hole for asking for a drink or to close out a tab. The girl tonight was rude and short. She acted like she didn't know what I was asking for and seemed REALLY put out by my presence. I've loved this place after several stops in the past but she ruined this being a casual hangout. Hope it was just a "bad day". But I'll seriously reconsider a stop again. read more

Ok so I have been going here for a couple years to watch games The service (other than Joe and JJ(who just just quit)) (and the old manager Alex and ex employee Lauren is terrible and that's not an exaggeration!! My opinion of the sport's bar is identical to the one from Kelsie V. Her description and assessment is dead on. That's not meant as a disparaging observation... I live close by and stop in periodically during the NFL season (as they have the "NFL ticket"), and have always had an OK time. Food isn't memorable, but it's decent. There's nothing wrong with the burgers, pizza and wings you get here. There's nothing at all wrong with this place, but it's not the sort of place I'd go out of way to visit either. read more

The pizza is actually pretty good. Yum Yum Yum roasted garlic. Normally pizza at a bar and Grill after that. Obviously it won't be as good as your favorite pizza joint but it's pretty dang good. read more

Food is great and service is...interesting. I was attempting to ask the bartender for a mask as was advertised on the front door. As I was talking to some patrons, waiting for the bartender, I dropped an f-bomb, non confrontationally I might add. Arguably not classy but Tryon isn't suit and tie, it's a...bar. ".50¢ Taco's on Mondays". What! Taco's are served on a Corn Hard Shell filled with Taco Meat, Lettuce, Cheddar Cheese and Tomatoes. Comes with Salsa. Oh dang. So much for losing weight. .50¢ Tacos, shut the front door. I'm all in. The Salsa wasn't super but it was fine. Store bought kind if i had to guess but passable. Forgettable. I have hung out here a few times over the years. Best feature is their Pizza. It's a sports bar with lots of taps, varied clientele, a bit of a patio, pool tables, TVs with Sport on. Just not that memorable. Nothing wrong with it, just ordinary. A few unbussed tables, etc. I had couple ciders on my last visit and some nachos. I joined a friend after work. The nachos were okay, but lacked height, panache. I recommend stopping in for a beer and not expecting an experience. But I do recall their Pizza is solid. My wife and I ordered a French dip and burger tonight at the bar. I noticed their was something strange after eating some of my burger. The burger was really pink inside and I felt sick later after getting home. I was never asked how I would like the burger cooked. I have been in Portland for a year and am a small business owner myself. None of the burgers I've had in downtown have been uncooked in this way. I really liked the bar and was planning on coming back another night until ordering the food. This ruined our Sunday night date and will be heading elsewhere next time. Tryon is an amazing bar for a lot of reasons. Their food and drinks are reasonably priced, they have great happy hour deals, great nightly deals, and a solid atmosphere with a lot of really nice people that attend the bar. However, beyond everything, the bartenders are some of the best around. They are always extremely nice and are extremely engaging. Joe is one of the nicest guys I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He is funny and is always willing to talk, laugh, and tell you about the bar's special events. Alyssa is hilarious. Mandy is so kind and always wears great outfits. Holly is always smiling and is a great energy for the bar. Becky (who I just recently met) is sweet. I love the bartenders here and they make the experience. I am thankful for all the nights I got to spend at this bar & thankful for the bartenders. read more

We really want to like this place as it is so conveniently located for us. Unfortunately, the service was absolutely dreadful when we last visited and the food was mediocre. There were only two people working the floor and one was doubling as a bartender. The other person wouldn't make eye contact with us and when we finally flagged her down she told us the bartender was our server and she would tell her to wait on us. This, despite the fact that the server was taking orders from tables on both sides of us. Well, that didn't work out well and I had to go to the bar a few times to order and to finally closeout. Some teamwork between the staff would go a long way at improving the service. Our food was just ok. My egg sandwich seemed rushed. The cheese wasn't melted and the english muffin didn't appear toasted or crispy. We were only able to try one drink each as no one ever asked if we wanted another round. Overall, it was a strange experience at a place that had an odd energy to it. As this was the 3rd time we were less than satisfied with the service and/or food, I don't think we will be coming back. read more

I've been a frequent patron of the Tryon for over 12 years (knew it back when it was "Robby's") and have recommended it to MANY friends. Unfortunately, the place has taken a turn for the worse. Management needs to pull it's head out of it's A$$ and show a little loyalty to it's staff and regulars. The new staff are pretty much MIckey Mouse club and my old faves are dropping like flies. I used to hate Tryon. I mean, I really used to despise it. But now, I love it. I have no idea how this happened, but I have to assume it was the drinks, the food, the sports, and the staff. All the drinks are cheap, even the nicer micro brews. They have about 15 or 20 beers on tap, a nice, balanced selection too. It is tough to find a drink over $4, which is a good problem to have. The food is bar food, but it is pretty delicious. The chicken fingers, the nachos, the burgers, and the french dip are all personal favorites. There are tons of HD TVs and the staff is always working hard. They don't usually have too many people working there and it can get pretty crowded, so you might have to be patient during busy hours. But I've never had to wait very long. They are great with spliting up tabs too. You will learn to love it. read more

I posted a snarky tip but I am still pissed enough to also include a review. We moved to this area about a year ago. I pass Tryon Grill several times a day. I have encouraged the man to stop in, thinking that it would have some good bar food, a little Oregon lottery, a cool vibe. We showed up on a Saturday afternoon, found our way to the video poker and proceeded to be ignored. There were employees, a few patrons, nothing special going on. After dropping a couple of $20's in the machines and never being greeted, much less asking if we would like to be served, I was ready to hit the road. This level of (or lack thereof) is not acceptable. There are a large number of other establishments that are near by to tolerate this kind of crap. Hey, maybe they do have good food. Maybe it is a fun place to hang out. We will never know. read more

The one star is for the obvious lack of interest the owner has in running an establishment catering to customers. I have been here several times. The food is standard and the beer selection is ok. The service is absolutely horrible. Not because of the people doing it. They're very nice. It's because the place usually has two employees for the entire building. One of whom is the cook. It is intentionally understaffed. Even on a Saturday afternoon during football season. Or after work. Or any other time people may want to have a drink and watch a game. This place is awesome. I come in a few times a month and it never disappoints. Everyone that works there is very nice. Someone on here said the drinks were expensive, I have no idea what they were talking about. $4 wells are pretty cheap if you ask me, $2.25 during happy hour is just cheap. The pours make even top shelf drinks worth it. Different nights are a completely different experience, and if you ask me, that's a good thing. Monday is packed with trivia dorks, its loud because the lady doing trivia has a PA system, she constantly mispronouncing EVERYTHING which can get annoying. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are pretty quiet, but there is $5 all you can eat pasta and cheap beer on Tuesday, then cheap burger and brew on Wednesday. Thursday is usually packed with Lewis and Clark students getting 4 dollar long islands. These kids are usually very nice and don't really cause problems. Friday is $10 micro pitchers and pizza, usually busy until about 10pm, then everyone heads downtown. Saturday is $8 domestics, I don't go in much on Saturday so I couldn't tell you what happens then. And Sunday is $3 mimosa and bloody Mary's until 3pm. It's a great place to watch NFL games and just hang out. Overall if you have a problem with Tryon maybe you should reexamine your own life. It is important to note that there is not always table service (especially late night), so when you get there you should just walk straight up to the bar, order and drink, and tell them where you are sitting. read more

I could tell the place has character, but my experience sucked. The burgers looked good but I went with the Ruben sandwich. I asked about the coleslaw, she said it was good. It was one of the poorest Rubens I've ever had and the coleslaw had NO flavor. Nothing, the cabbage was fresh, but nothing. Not even salt. I ate one bite. Anyway, when she asked how the Ruben was, I politely said it was good but that the coleslaw left something to be desired . . . she offered no response, nor was the slaw comped. I love this place the food is amazing they always have great beers and they change it up all the time. But the most important thing is the staff is incredible attentive friendly and if you go there a couple times you'll feel like a regular. Also I'll add all the portlanders, students, and drop ins are always well mannered and good for a fun conversation. It is a sports bar so if that's not you thing please don't ask to have them put on the bachelor. Lol kidding that's almost a sport in today's world. Somehow, it still amazes me when non-smokers go to smoky bars and give them bad reviews because they're smoky. It's so predictable to scroll down and read about stinky clothes and heavy smoke in every single 1- and 2-star review. Sheesh...Tryon Creek is a bar where smoking is allowed. Hence, if you don't smoke or are sensitive to smoky places, you shouldn't go here. There are certainly plenty of non-smoking alternatives, aren't there? Just like I don't go to crappy Taco Bell because I can't stand crappy Mexican food. It makes me feel crappy. I already know I'll be disappointed. I will admit, however, that Tryon Creek should install a few fans. Smoking aside, Tryon gets an A-OK from me because, #1: it has some of the friendliest staff around. They really go out of their way to make you comfy and full of beer and decent food. Speaking of which, they have nicely priced pitchers of Fat Tire and other micros, along with some pretty tasty pizza. Not the best in town, by any means, but it definitely tastes good, soaks up the beer, and doesn't cause problems later. The rest of the food on the menu is mediocre, sports bar food. Since most people don't go to smoky sports bars for the food (that would be odd), it's not a big deal. They'll feed you here, but it's not spectacular. Anyway, that's reason #2: Tasty pizza and a good selection of well-priced beer are important features of any sports bar, in my opinion. Now, I am a pool shark. No really, I will kick your ass. At Tryon Creek Grill, the pool tables are short and fast, at only $0.75 per game. Trust me, it's hard to find pool that cheap anymore and thus, reason #3. Some would say that short tables aren't genuine, and I agree, but you can't beat the price. They need a bit more A/C in the summer, though, as the temps rise considerably inside when it's packed. There are plenty of TVs for sports fans, tables for after-work happy hour groups, as well as fooseball and pinball machines in the back. Overall, I dig going here, but it's not amazing. It's nice for a beer and a game of pool on a Sunday afternoon. Unless you need your lungs, apparently. I'm not sure how I managed to escape with mine, but somehow, it worked out. read more

There's a lot of haters on the Tryon, and, on first impression, they might be right. Getting to know Tryon takes a little effort, but once you do, you'll be happier for it. Now I wouldn't say this is a place to go out of your way for, but it's a damn fine bar to have in your neighborhood. The Tryon bartenders pour stiff drinks, and the beer selection is great. I've rarely left there sober, something about the place invites you to have that 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th drink. Oooh! The chicken strips are good. Well, this is a Lewis and Clark hangout. Maybe "THE" LC hangout. Idk... I went to OSU. In any case, don't be surprised if it's filled with 21-23 year-olds. It also can get really quiet on weekends because of that fact, as all the kids are downtown, or at house parties, or passed out in the neighbor's flower garden, or hazing a new law student or... Who knows? During the day or during sporting events, the crowd is more mixed with neighbors and such. In terms of nightlife, this is really a weeknight bar and a near-closing weekend-night bar when people are heading home from downtown. Weeknights... Monday night trivia games are fun and busy. Thursday's are packed with kids getting the $4 long islands. It's clean, has ok bar food, over 20 beers on tap, and a basic selection of booze. There are a couple pool tables and Foosball. Lots of TVs always tuned to sporting events. I'll often go there for Blazer or Timber games. It's a Duck-centric place, too. As a Beav, I don't care for that, but it's not so obnoxious that it keeps me away. The servers are efficient and polite, but not typically personable. Like, they are generally just slinging drinks and don't really care who you are - assuming you aren't one of their friends who are smoking on the back porch - even if you are a regular. A couple are pretty friendly though, and none are surly. In outer SW, there are only a couple good bar options for nightlife. Depending on the night, this can be a fun place, but it helps to be in the Lewis and Clark demographic. Otherwise, you can easily become an outsider. If you're outgoing and match the college demographic, it can be a lot of fun. There are a lot of nice fun (and sometimes drunk) people there. read more

Staff is attentive and polite, the food was good, breakfast is served until 2 which is a benefit. One individual at our table had the chicken fried steak for breakfast and all but licked the plate clean because it was so good. Another chose the hummus plate which was very satisfying. I'm not sure what the normal ambiance is, but our visit probably could have been better. We came on a Friday night, around midnight, maybe that's just not prime time from Tryon Creek. I think one person (the bartender) was working the whole place. Drinks were stiff, but not tasty. Also, really freaking expensive- no matter how much alcohol you put in a drink, if it doesn't taste good, its not worth the money (in my opinion). My credit card was charged twice. Annoying. I like the size of the bar. People aren't right on top of each other. And not to be all negative and mean, but I wouldn't want any of the people who were there (save my 3 friends) anywhere near me. read more

Well Tryon has led to some confusing and fun/unpleasant times. Yes I know I just contradicted myself, but that's just how I feel, ok? So back off! It's a pretty straightforward sports bar but it's right next to Lewis and Clark, so there are always a slew of college students that I happen to know there. The beer selection is usually pretty good. The food is bar food, but not bad, and sports games are broadcast without incident. The incredible thing about this bar is that I end up going there and wondering, in a drunken haze, how I possibly could have made the decision to go there at all.
