Great first visit for us last night. My wife and I met her parents for an early dinner before a high school basketball game. We came especially for the last Friday of the month special...the Fresh Razor Clams. The Clams were perfectly breaded and fried. The salad before hand was also excellent. My father-in law had the Oyster Stew which he said was just ok. The accompanying vegetables and potatoes on the plate with the Razor Clams were also done so well. Our server was excellent as well. She was always there for any requests we may have had. We will be back for other specials or just to enjoy good food and drink. read more

I've driven by The Old Barn countless times. St. Patrick's Day last year I decided to order the corned beef dinner special. I got it to go but sort of wished I would have eaten it in the restaurant instead. Lots of screens to watch your favorite sports team play. Now the food ... I was pleasantly impressed with the quality of the food. The corned beef was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. Came here again to try their Prime Rib special and it was a good experience. This is probably the best deal for a prime rib meal in town. The meal includes a prime rib, choice of potato, soup or side salad, and toast. The food quality was decent (for what you pay) and the service was friendly and quick. read more

Hubby and I popped in here for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon. It was really great! The bartender/server was very friendly and attentive. The food was tasty. We split a "Rachael", a Rueben with turkey, homemade thousand island, yummy cheese, and marbled rye bread. We split the sandwich because we also had an order of "Tachos", nachos with tater tots instead of tortilla chips. The sandwich also came with homemade potato chips that were addictive. The Tachos were really surprisingly good. They had Tinga chicken, black olives, tomatoes, green onions, pickled jalapeño, and lots of cheddar cheese. Salsa and Sour cream on the side as well. Nice neighborhood place with lots of different sports to watch all over the place if you're interested. Parking in the back too which makes it easier to pop in. The vodka and soda had a generous amount of vodka in it as well. The overall price was surprisingly affordable too. We'll try to stop in more frequently! read more

Huge props for our server Tori, who was brand new and handled the 14 of us like a champ! She got some help from the gal bartender - because the restaurant was full - but mostly helped us all singlehandedly. I have been driving by here for 17 years (on my way home from work) and finally noticed the $14.95 Prime Rib Dinner sign. Hello??? That was that! I was planning a dinner with my foody friends and bringing them all here! Of course I got the $14.95 prime rib dinner. Well done and with the baked potato (instead of smashed) and salad instead of soup. And it was old school marvelous! The potato was even still in foil and we got sides of au jus, sour cream, butter and horseradish! 4 friends - who claim not to be "followers" (WTH?? The prime rib is why we were there!) got the mac & cheese, shrimp Louie salad, chicken sandwiche, and an omelet breakfast! While it all looked great, it wasn't nearly the good deal as the prime rib. The kitchen was very clean (I popped in to ask for a to-go box) which was impressive. The bar is wall-to-wall TV's playing sports (which kept the guys entertained) and they have a decent sized private parking lot behind the restaurant (and away from the busy street) Friday nigh is King Crab legs night so we will definitely be back to try that out! read more

I always order the Rachel (I should try something else) but it's just so darn good. If you don't know it's a Rueben but with turkey meat. Also, get the onion rings! I don't know what they use as batter but they are the best around! I wish they'd get more ciders, the one they have is dry. I prefer a sweet and fruity one. Service is always good. read more

I would recommend following on the instapage or the facegram. They have something for everyone and all on different days. They have crab menu (last Friday) razor clams (first Friday I think) fried chicken (the other Friday's) prime rib (Tuesday). The fried chicken is awesome. Good juicy meat and nice crispy skin. Put some of your own hot sauce on there and boom!! I had the prime rib today. I got takeout and at home I had a lukewarm meal (my fault not theirs) which was amazing. And under $15. I also love their onion rings. They are big and juicy and just awesome bar food. They have both bingo (Monday and Thursday for now) and video crack and all the sports bar staples you want. I think covid made them rethink their space a bit which is good because I wasn't a huge fan of the old setup. Just got a little tight. The owners are awesome people too. I don't need too much convincing to grab some old barn. read more

I feel bad rating 1 star because I love The Old Barn but there's some loser that works nights here that revs the piss out of his car when he leaves every night at 2am. He or She has done this for at least a couple years like clockwork waking up everyone in the apartments across the street. I would be understanding if it was a loud sports car but no. It's some beat up car missing its whole exhaust. I'm tired of being woken up in the middle of the night and so are the hundreds of people living in the surrounding apartments. Edit: Upon calling the business, the worker I talked with tried to claim that there's no houses or apartments nearby. Hahah yeah okay lady, I know you've worked there for years and see all the apartments across the street. Don't play dumb. And why are you immediately so defensive and rude? I am a regular here. there has been two times now, where two different bartenders have told me told me to be quiet. conversations were never inappropriate AND both times I was talking to my boss... I love this place but as a bartender, I've never told anyone to be quiet. if I was out of line, I get it. talking about construction, I don't get it lol. this is a silent bar and please don't answer your phones here or you'll be asked to leave lol. read more

This place has been around for years. I hadn't been in it recently (the last time prior was when you could still smoke in saloons). So, it was a while. We were looking for a quick stop to meet up to debrief our various days (me and some friends in the hood). We stopped off here and it seemed A OK. I've been here a few times in recent months and they usually have a food special of the day and happy hour food starts around 4:30PM. They have a decidedly older crowd (yep, I'm there too) which is fine by me. It's lower key than some other places around. Sports on the TVs and video games abound. They may have some video poker but I don't really look for that sort of thing so I'm uncertain on that point. They do pretty well with their well drinks and beers. I've tried their food on a couple of occasions and it is standard pub fare but no better or worse than anyone else. All and all a good stop for a quick drink and chat. read more

3.8-4.0 star-ish This review is for the Karaoke Night. From us! The self proclaimed karaoke nerds of the Portland metro area. Karaoke night is on Saturday. It is done in a very small back corner of the tavern. The KJ does a great job balancing sound for such a small space. 5.0 star. The song book is thick and has a good many obscure hits, but were well worn and the pages stuck together. 3.75 star. I like the fact that they do it old school by using slips for song selections. I think that helps keep things moving in a strong, fair rotation. There were only about 5 other singers the night we visited. So we got a good many songs in. I am not sure this is the norm as we went on a night following an outbreak of bad weather. We liked the small space karaoke there. The tavern: Parking is in the back. I can't comment on the food because we didn't order any at the time of our visit. They have a decent beer selection and the pour on mixed drinks is well balanced. The service was fast and very friendly. The decor is dive-y. They have wood paneling covering the walls. I am not a fan of the high seating aka the pub tables and stools/chairs. This makes up about 90% of the seating choices in this tavern. These are not very comfy and they just don't seem safe IMO. Everything seemed clean. The bathrooms need updated and expanded with more stalls. The majority of patrons were ages 22-32 with just a couple folks in their mid 50's. Closer to midnight hour is when the young obnoxious costumed provocative needy center of attention types filed in.... and we filed out. The prices were fair. We may visit again. I just wish that they had a wider age range of demographic. We will make a note to come early and leave early to avoid the drama. read more

Um no way!!! Dirty dive bar with a snotty attitude and they told me they had red bull and they gave me rock star. It tastes terrible and two drinks were $23!! The bartender was rude and cold to me and my husband, while back slapping other, 'regulars'. It kinda felt belittling. Parking is behind the bar and you have to walk up a hill, in my case, while freezing and you get to see a bunch of less than eye pleasing, back door stuff including a falling down looking staircase. Maybe the locals have been coming here so long they don't need new customers. All I know is I will NEVER EVER be back... I live close, I found another bar three exits down, they make you feel like a regular the first time you visit. Don't waste your time going here. read more

I have read through a lot of the negative reviews on here and before I get to my feelings about The Old Barn, I have to address these ludicrous complaints. One person gave this place one star, because she had to walk uphill from the parking, don't be lazy. Next up, another person complained about not receiving her onion rings, in the review she states she realized this the NEXT DAY, lets move on shall we. Most of the complaints regarding the Old Barn are laughable and stem from what appears to be a common trait among Americans, laziness. Sitting around and complaining you didn't get silverware is easily fixable by getting up. As for not receiving food you paid for and realizing the next day, that is just straight up your fault. What I am trying to say is do not let the few instances of laziness, pettiness and self-entitlement deter you from trying out a nice local dive bar. I come here every other week for Last Call trivia and always leave satisfied. Our waitress is fantastic, and its easy to get her attention, all you got to do is saying, hi excuse me, and you would be surprised at the results. Also try to stop and remember that the world does not revolve around you, as typically when I am there she is the only one serving, busing and waiting on tables so patience is encouraged. In the end, this a dive bar and you get what you pay for. Is the food gourmet? I don't know, although I am sure the $12 seafood platter was plucked from the ocean out back, just for the 1 starers. Check out the Old Barn, have a great time, experience the locals while enjoying some guilty pleasure food. I've been searching around the SW Multnomah area for a good local bar. I've had some less than stellar experiences at other bars near the Village so it was time to listen to Yelp and check out The Old Barn. My first experience was on a Saturday for some college football. As far as sports bars go, The Old Barn has a great variety of TVs and I enjoyed the atmosphere. They have some good happy hour bar food options for $3.95 and I was stoked that their happy hour went to 6:30pm with a good selection of micro brews and cheap PBR. What brought me back was their Tuesday prime rib special. It didn't disappoint. $9.95 gets you soup or salad, a delicious piece of prime rib and choice of potato with garlic toast. I would have liked some sort of vegetable with my meal besides the small salad, but overall I've enjoyed what I've eaten at The Old Barn. The service there has been really top notch and friendly. I felt very welcomed even through it was my first time(s) hanging out there. That above anything else will bring me back for another visit. read more

Since I moved in across the street, the OB - for better or for worse - has become like my own personal rec room/man cave (although my girlfriend enjoys it quite a bit too). It's a great neighborhood (some might say dive) bar, though I'd say it takes a visit or two or three to really start to appreciate it and get to know the staff. It's actually a sneaky good sports bar with full DirecTV NFL package and and almost every game you'd want to watch. There's enough TVs for everyone to see what they want (even if they're not all the absolute best picture quality). A vocal group of Pittsburg Steelers fans are usually in the house on Sundays, but I've never had a problem getting my team's game on. I think the food is pretty solid and relatively inexpensive. Again, this is a neighborhood joint that's not going to attract clientele from all over Portland because of its gastropub reputation, but as far as solid, fill ya up, bar food goes I'm always verys satisfied. They also seem to be pretty confident in their seafood menu as well and do a razor clam special on the last Friday of each month (which I keep missing!). The mixed drinks are not weak, there's jello shots if you feel like steppin' it up a notch, and a solid selection of beers on tap. I'll just say that if you want to do what most people come to blue collar neighborhood bars to do, you'll enjoy yourself at the OB. I don't smoke, but most smokers seem to like their covered, heated smoking patio, which I think has a little TV on it as well. Oh and the karaoke nights (Saturday primarily) can get pretty fun the few times I've stuck around that long. Great people watching all in all too! The only thing you'll wanna watch out for is the parking lot in the back, which takes a little care when you exit as it's a little cramped. Since I'm usually on foot, I rarely have to worry about that, but you can always park next door at the Barbur Transit Center if you want an easier way out. read more

Went to the old barn with my great grandson and has been for breakfast. Tina was a amazing as our server. Great grandson was very happy with his cheeseburger and fries. Husband was very very happy with his chicken fried steak and eggs. I had a eggs over easy with pancakes and bacon everything was cooked just right. Enjoyed our self until a family came in with the screaming little girl. Mother kept saying oh yes it's her naptime in time to eat. Oh yey! They have Last Call USA trivias here, on Tuesday at 7:30 & Wednesday at 8:00. It was fun and will get your brain working. The bar itself, I have to say...it's pretty cozy. It's your standard neighborhood bar with potent drinks. PBR $2, Jello Shots $1, and Jolly Rancher $5.75. Their food menu looks pretty good with your standard bar fare and non standard bar fare such as homemade Pizza which they claim the best in town. We will be back for more trivias maybe we will try some food then. It's so cool to find a trivia bar in our neighborhood, now I just need to practice my trivia skill so I can win. read more

How many times have you driven by this place and wondered what it was like inside? Me? At least 250 times. Finally! I went inside with 2 friends to see what it was like. It was a dive bar without the greasy old men undressing you with their eyes. It was quite a young crowd actually. ++ It was crowded because of trivia night but still offered up a place to sit. The wait staff was awesome. For as busy as it was, the cocktail waitress was on it! A couple of times the bartender himself came over to ask us if we needed anything else and was quite the character too. The drinks were stiff-ish, nice menu selection but chose the mini corn dogs- fried to perfection! My friend had a club sandwich with fries and after stealing a bite.. that was good too! Fellow Yelp-Man Alfredo made the right call on this one: It's "a sneaky-good sports bar". More than one date night has either started here or included a drop-in @ the Old Barn. It seems to me it used to have a bit more of a CW flavor, and now is more mainstream. 'Salright, it's still a good mix of old regulars and a younger, adult student-aged set (PCC Sylvania is about a mile up the road, across I5). A female comedienne, whose name now escapes me, memorably once quipped that everyone in the world, except for 75% of the women, wants to have sex, pretty much all the time. The "other 25%" of the girlies seem to consistently have a strong presence, a mighty good showing at the Old Barn, for whatever reason. Mind you, this is by no means scientific, empirically-driven data we're talkin' here. Just an observation. When asked how I liked going to The Old Barn my response was "It was okay", which is to say it wasn't bad. It also translates to I won't be suggesting that we go there again, but if someone asks me to meet them there I won't decline. The Server was most excellent, very attentive and nice. The food menu is actually pretty good for a bar, the prices are about average. They have a HH food menu that looked like a good deal. Drinks are what you'd expect, average, not bad, not amazing. The atmosphere is "local hangout." Most of the seating is bar stool height. They have Free Wifi and a few TVs. I went for Wednesday Night Trivia - The "TJ" is great. I ordered a Grilled Chicken Salad ($7.95) and my friends ordered a Chef Salad ($7.95)and 2 Pancakes($5). The Salads were okay, iceberg lettuce with generous toppings, the chicken was prepared well. Possibly my favorite watering hole in Southwest. It's really just your average, straight-up standard neighborhood bar. It's not trying to be a british pub or anything else like that. It's not too dive-y and not too much of a sports-bar... though there ARE about 96 TVs in the place. The staff is pretty awesome. The food, depending on what you order, is either about on par with standard bar-food or surprisingly good. We've been quite a few times since coming to the area and every time has been fun. read more
