I hear good things about The Meat Up so came for their AYCE lunch. As this was out first time; the server was very patient in explaining which menu we should select and how the process works. There are different tiers for the AYCE, we just selected the Classic ($36.99/person, Mon-Thur all day; Fri-Sat 11am-4pm). For the hot pot, we just go up to the open refrigeration and select our meats and vegetables, and place in the metal pot. We bring the metal pot to the bar/front counter and select a choice of soup. I tried the bone broth (which was just ok) and the tom yum (which was good). The hot pot would be delivered to our table when done. Note, for those we don't want the BBQ meats, they do have a "Magic Pot Special" (Mon-Fri, 11am-4pm) for $25.99/person. For the BBQ meats, we select from our choices and was brought to our table cooked and placed on the hot plate to keep warm. The chicken and beef were excellent and not dry. Salads and other cooked food at the front counter also included. There is free parking out front. The décor is from the old ACB restaurant which brought fond memories from 30 years ago! This is my first visit to the Richmond location for lunch. It was a solid meal but I enjoyed the Burnaby location more. For starters, they did not have the diamond tier available and certain items were not available in the gold tier (ie fried rice, spaghetti, tomato dough drop soup and cold noodles). I was slightly disappointed, but we decided on the gold tier. Service was alright. We ordered our food and waited for it to arrive. Our server did not stop by to clear dirty plates until we were about to pay our bill. Skewers and hot pot did taste good for what was available. There was enough variety to keep things interesting. Lastly, I enjoyed not having to cook my food. There were plenty of parking spots available during the weekday lunch hours. Overall, I prefer the Burnaby location more. read more

I visited Meat up in Richmond location for friend birthday gathering. I wish they had a private room, since our group was large, so, we had to sit at separated tables. They only offer Gold and Diamond courses. Actually I visited here a few times, and recently they seem to offer this 2 course. We started to order beer tower and bucket bliss(Korean soju with lime juice) We tried many skewers including lamb, beef, chicken, pork and more. As usual, lamb was the best. From vegetable, I love baked eggplant. And we could get hot pot and I chose the collagen broth which was excellent. From small buffet section, I got marinated clam which was very good. And crispy chicken skin was delicious, too. However, Fried rice was terrible. I don't usually comment too negtive, however, fried rice was one of the worst dish. Overall, we enjoyed food and drink. Where do I even start with this one. Let me count the ways. I think it's been a while since I last wept while eating. This place is a dream come true. I was told that the AYCE feature is recent (as of the time of writing) for this chain. Can't comment on the past, but I feel I walked out of there a better person. But first things first. Parking is available around the building, but only in certain sections of the surrounding lot. Pay careful attention to the diagram by the front door. The place has a funky interior, with colourful LED signs. Makes for a bit of a nightclub feel. Staff were friendly and helpful, which was nice, as it was my 1st time here. As of the time of writing, I think they have fully switched to AYCE now. There is the hot pot only option, and a skewer upgrade. Get the skewer upgrade. The cows and lambs will thank you. Just from this alone, it is very easy to eat one's money's worth when compared to the competition. The AYCE includes a drink of choice, as well as a small ice cream at the end. The hot pot section is very decent. Grab a pot and tongs, and fill up the pot with goodies. Pick a soup base, and they cook it for you and bring it to your table. I really like how the pots are rather shallow, so that there isn't too much (liquid) soup. I tried several flavours and everything was good. The skewers though. Oh wow. I don't know how many animals my buddy and I burned through. We were double fisting and tearing them animals to shreds. Talk about pure bliss. Everything was fresh and delicious. Third time at Meat Up, but first time since they changed their menu to AYCE. Came for a friend's birthday since they get the meal free with at least 4 guests! We got the gold menu ($48.99) since there was literally *almost* nothing good on the basic menu. The gold menu also came with the hot pot which we also gave a try. All the fried food/cold appetizers were just in trays for self-serve. Everything was kept mildly warm which was just okay. Food came out pretty fast; they lit up the heater grill for us once but when we asked for it to be heat up again, they didn't want to do it since the food was going to burn. Everything basically had the same seasoning, unless it said "honey", then the marinade was a bit sweeter. Meat quality itself is decent; some cuts were chewy, but some were pretty good. It's pretty hit or miss so I'd recommend just getting 1-2 of every skewer and sharing it with your party to see which one is good. My favourites were the pork belly and the beef. Hot pot is pretty similar to Big Way and all those other chains; it was pretty decent, and a good way to get your veggies in with all the meat skewers! I ordered the collagen bone broth and I liked that it's not too salty. Honestly decently busy for a Monday. Would be fun trying it out with a big group! Have heard about this skewer bbq place for and while now. Finally got to try it. Overall, the variety was decent for the price which also includes a self serve hotpot with your choice of soup base. The selection of hot food was limited but sufficient given the main goal of the restaurant was the bbq skewers. We chose a variety of meat but the selection of bbq vegetables was very limited . Some of the bbq skewers came very overcooked and dry while some came with a good texture. so it really varied. the selection of items for the self serve hotpot was average. Been wanting to try this place out because we love getting chinese bbq but they can be pricey per a la carte. We tried out the classic menu which included bbq items and hotpot. All the bbq skewers that came out were very big, juicy and flavorful. They definitely did not skimp on size even though it's an AYCE. On the other hand, the hotpot broths were just okay and there were not a lot of options for the toppings. This place has been in Richmond for a while, finally got a chance to try it with friends. It's in the central Richmond on No.3 Road, there's free parking which was a bonus. The AYCE menu has different tiers. We chose the Gold tier, which comes with hotpot option as well. After sitting down, we were greeted by their staff, explained how everything works. The section of Gold Tier comes with unlimited hotpot with 7 soup bases, and different kinds of BBQ skewers, over 30 kinds of food. The selection was huge. All for $45 per adult. The ambience is vibrant and cheerful, staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Our skewers are freshly made, nicely seasoned. The selection of the side dish is fantastic, especially if you like spicy flavors. The hotpot selection is also pretty good, and there are 7 kinds of soup bases to choose from. We also ordered some alcohol drinks, grape and peach cocktail Barrel. The portion and the price don't really add up. It's definitely on the pricy side, wouldn't recommend if you have a large group. Each one would probably only get a little bit. For hotpot, I got an individual pot to choose my ingredient, and I chose the Malatang soup base. It was not as spicy as I thought it would be, but you can increase the spicy level. The experience overall was great, definitely for meat lovers with a group of ppl who have big appetite. we showed up around 4:00 pm on a wednesday, and the meat up already had a mellow, inviting vibe. the colourful neon lights, beer mugs, ufos, even a floating astronaut, cast soft pinks, blues, and yellows across the room, giving the space a fun, dreamlike feel without being too distracting. pop music videos from ed sheeran, doja cat, sabrina carpenter, and charlie puth played in the background, adding a light, pleasant buzz. we're total lightweights when it comes to ayce these days, so honestly the hardest part was picking a menu. our eyes are always bigger than our stomachs. everyone at the table must choose the same package, and they remind you to be mindful not to be wasteful. after some back and forth, we settled on the classic menu at $35.99. there's also the gold at $48.99 and the diamond at $58.99. no lamb skewers or ice cream with the classic, but you still get cold snacks, deep fried bites, and roughly eighty hotpot ingredients, plenty of variety and healthy options. everything looked fresh, clean, and well stocked. my favourite part: they cook both the hotpot and the skewers for you. once you've chosen your ingredients, you can just chill. no stressing about how much the bowl weighs (like at big way hotpot). the food simply arrives perfectly cooked, which totally changes the vibe. food highlights: the crunchy cucumber salad was super refreshing, the sweet butter cheese corn was warm and comforting, the freshly fried chicken came out hot and crisp, and the seasoned bbq skewers were flavourful without feeling heavy. the sesame balls with red bean paste weren't very crispy, but still fun to try. the sauce station is limited (definitely not hai di lao level), but clean. each table has a call bell, which is handy, just press when you need anything. the drink menu has lots of interesting options, though some only become available after 5 pm. overall, the meat up offers an easy, relaxed ayce experience with a colourful atmosphere, a well organized menu, and food prepared with care. for a midweek afternoon visit, it was fun, satisfying, and a spot i'd happily return to with friends for good food and chill vibes. read more

I had been reading recent reviews and was prepared for the brazilian ayce style where they come around with skewers and you pick and choose until you're full and turn the card over. However, it was the order what you want version. This was weekend lunch. On the menu we thought the $35.99 lunch special was weekdays only but it worked for weekends as well. I feel like they keep changing the types of skewers around. When we went it had cheese sausage, and fish tofu but now it seems to be broccoli and garlic sausage. Before, it was 1 bite chicken and sausage, then cheese sausage and chicken skin. You have to keep checking every month. The lamb and beef skewers were especially delicious. The chicken skewer was dry. Chicken wings were ok. We ordered the mantou and honey toast but they never came. The hotpot was very lacking. They don't have any ingredients that I like and only have the cheaper types. It also took a very long time for it to come out. My husbands mala soup was 50% oil. My green sichuan pepper was nice. Their sauce holders were ridiculously big so people often waste sauces. The ice cream is limited to 1 scoop per person. It was pretty good ice cream but incredibly small. I came here with some friends for the AYCE BBQ and I think the experience was not bad. I don't think I would come here on my own but it was fun with a group. The meat options weren't super extensive (since we didn't upgrade to the premium menu) but combined with the free side dishes, there were quite of bit of items to choose from. Came here with a party of 10 on a recent Vancouver trip and had a good time. Restaurant interior is pretty big, with enough tables to accommodate both large and small parties. We did the AYCE (2nd tier I believe, forgot the name), which comes with both skewers and malatang. For the skewers, staff members come around each table with different kinds of skewers, and you can ask for the quantity that you want of each. For malatang, it's a self serve ingredient bar at the front of the restaurant, where you can put whatever you want in your bowl, then you take it to another section of the restaurant where you choose your soup base. Once it's ready, they will bring it out to your table. There's also a small side food bar in the front, where they had things like fried chicken skin. Overall food was pretty good, though some of the meats for both the skewers as well as malatang were a bit tough to chew (mostly the beef). I personally enjoyed the lamb skewers the most. They also have some other dishes usually found at skewer places like grilled eggplant. Staff was mostly friendly, though I felt like the service from the staff handing out the skewers could have been better. Decent size parking lot for the restaurant. Overall after tax and tip, meal came out to around $40 USD per person, which is maybe a bit on the higher side but I think acceptable given that it's AYCE and there is a pretty large variety of food which you can get. read more

I'm honestly upset about my experience today at Meat Up BBQ. I've been here plenty of times and usually enjoy the food, but this visit was terrible. I spent $50 and it was a complete waste. The skewers were so salty they were almost inedible, the chicken smelled like it was going bad, and the noodles were bone dry. The ONLY decent thing was the honey toast, which was good -- but I didn't come here just for dessert. This was by far the worst experience I've had here and I'm seriously reconsidering coming back. read more

Not too sure the reason for the 3/5 Star average review on Yelp for The Meat Up. My experience was excellent. My experience (take out) - Friendly service. Good food. Great prices. However, I only ordered take out and delivery along with their hot-pot WHICH IS PHENOMENAL. Their Collagen Bone Broth is better than most hot pot broth. It's not filled with MSG that is responsible for the flavours in most hot pot broth. Sure, there is MSG but they really do have bone broth and collagen in the broth. I knew this because the first time I ordered, the portion was so large along with other things I had ordered for dinner elsewhere - I left a good portion of their broth in the fridge to cool and it became jellied. That's typically a good test that they truly boil the broth from bones and the gelatin and collagen melts into the broth. The collagen bone broth comes in a milky white colour and I don't think it's from milk but actually the bone likely boiled in a pressure cooker I'd presume. Whatever it is, it has collagen and it truly seems like bone broth boiled down hence fairly nutritious and isn't filled with MSG. Sure there is likely MSG but not significant in my opinion. Overall, their hot pot broth is better than Big Way Hot Pot which I often see filled with lines to the back but after trying a couple times for take out - I couldn't really see the hype. Their bone broth didn't solidify when I cooled it so likely just msg and maybe vegetable broth? Anyways, I ordered The Meat Up for take out on Fantuan September 9th around 10 PM. I had initially ordered the Yang's Cuisine Pork Knuckle and Rice set meal that I've been meaning to try after seeing it on Fantuan for only $7.99? And the reviews there were all raving about it. However, upon receiving it - I noticed it wasn't really what I was looking for, pork bone and skin with little meat. And the portion wasn't really suitable for a meal. So as I was just writing a review for The Meat Up on my recent delivery order the day before; I decided I may as well walk to The Meat Up for a pick up order since I was walking to the Capstan area in Richmond anyways - partly for exercise, partly was thinking of getting bubble tea (the more you exercise, the more you can eat guilt free - walking is good for your brain too). Decided to order their hot pot again around 10 Pm and to my surprise, the estimated time of order was 10:30 PM. So I just walked in the shop a couple minutes after and asked when it'd be ready. They seem to have only one wait staff but the girl was very friendly and polite. She immediately went to check in the kitchen and then mentioned I just ordered and I replied, yes I know however just wanted to check if 10:30 Pm wait time is accurate - thinking I may go for a walk around the area and back to pick up when it was ready. She kindly mentioned I could sit on the chair and wait (they have like couches? for waiting). Then she went to the kitchen and came out about 12 minutes later with the order; I think she went and helped the kitchen make the order because it was surprisingly quick. Got the order in about 12 minutes. Friendly service. Excellent portions. And delicious broth and food as usual. The value is also incredible; the prices and portions here are VERY worth it for their hot pot. Overall no complains and when craving for a hearty hot pot, if in the area - I'd probably order at The Meat Up. I ordered delivery a couple times (same collagen bone broth - and the food was always good) but this is my first time ordering pick up here. I should note, as I was entering the store - I saw this staff member hand delivered a take out order to a customer in his car. That seems to be good customer service. read more

Very clean, large bright restaurant- open late ( until 2 am ) We came late at night ( just after 1am ) We were seated promptly. Service was friendly, and we had water brought to the table once we sat down, but no tea. The menu is just a piece of paper, where you use the pencil ( provided ) to tick off your order as well as the quantity. We ordered Ginger Chicken skewers, BBQ Pork skewers, Garlic Bread, and fried rice. When it came out, it was placed on the warmer on the table. The food was ok, I thought the grade of chicken wasn't the best ( it certainly wasn't chicken breast ) I preferred the Pork. The skewers were not overly large, so we had to order 8 of each. The rice was good, and I liked the Garlic Bread skewers, but for the small size, they seemed a bit pricy. Total for 2 was over 50$ before tip. We didn't have anything to drink besides water. We thought for the amount of food, it seemed a bit high. They unfortunately do not offer any desert ( we were hoping they had coconut ice cream ) we left still a bit hungry. Lamb and Beef skewers were good. Most of the skewers are tasty. Long wait time but there were a lot of empty tables. App says 15-30 mins wait but it's actually longer around 1 hour. It took awhile before we got our order. Staff are friendly. The hotpot section didn't have designated tongs for each ingredients (risk of cross contamination for the ingredients). We got seated around 2 pm and we were told last order is at 3 pm. Time limit is 2 hours. read more

Delightful place. Good AYCE, taste was largely excellent and there is good variety. The pricing is perhaps a tad misleading as the base $36 doesn't have many items you would expect to have at a place like this (e.g., lamb, pig intestine, tendon, kidney, etc.). I would recommend going for the second tier - the value is not as good at $46 but I think it is worth the occasional treat. Aside from the skewers, the honey toast was surprisingly good. Service was very good and attentive. We went around 7:30 on a Saturday night (they don't let you make reservations after 6) and waited around 15 minutes. We ordered some QQ Chicken Racks, but the amount was significantly smaller from a few months before. It had also been more expensive. More expensive, Less quality, it's getting really ridiculous. The staff even canceled our order, because apparently they "forgot" to take our order. We ended up waiting nearly 45 minutes for our order until they told us it was canceled. Outrageous.
