We walked in on a Thursday night around 8 and it was packed. We were able to get seated right away. We were seated in a tight spot and people were slightly squeezing behind me to get by so after we got seated, we moved over the table to the left a little so people could pass more comfortably. The hostess saw this and asked if we moved the table and told us not to do that... After we told her why we moved the table she said no don't do that. Odd... but ok. We got the pork sticky rice shumai, pork in garlic sauce over rice, sautéed string beans and pepper corn chicken. Shumai was ok. The pork in garlic sauce had way too much sauce and was a tad sweet for our liking; it was drowning in sauce. The strings and pepper corn chicken were very good. Both had a slight touch of heat. I wish we ordered differently but overall the food was ok. Our server was very nice and attentive. We're debating coming back to try more of the menu but with so many Asian/Chinese restaurants to try in Edison, I think we'd try someplace else.
Love coming to this place for some authentic Shanghainese/TW dim sum dishes. However best to come on weekdays before the dinner crowds and avoid the weekends as it always crowded. Almost everything was made perfectly and friendly service. As the night went on and got busier just have to be sure to wave the wait staff who are very amenable. My large party came and left so happy with practically everything that we had. Their food is always excellent and will certainly be back!
It's the little moments that make life beautiful... especially the ones that involve tasty food! Tasty Moment is a very popular Shanghainese restaurant in Edison, well known for its soup dumplings, pan-fried pork juicy buns, noodle soups, dim sum, and comfort dishes like braised pork belly, crispy eggplant with minced pork, and peppercorn chicken. So, what keeps people coming back over and over again? Generous portions, authentic flavors, and reasonable prices. Most dishes range from $6-$20 (a steal in today's economy) and are perfect for sharing family-style. We stopped by on a Friday evening around 8pm and were quoted a ~45-minute wait. They typically don't accept reservations unless you're a large group, so brace yourself for long wait times during peak hours. You give them your name & number, and they'll send a text when your table is ready. Since it's located in Festival Plaza, there are plenty of things to see and do while you wait (cafes, H Mart, Island Spa, etc.). I was hangry, so my little self was jumping for joy when I got the text: "YOUR TABLE IS READY." We ran over to the restaurant, stepped into a lively, bright, and modern space, and were seated right away! I ordered: *Pork Soup Dumplings [6 pieces] ($10.95) *Lucky Three Soup Dumplings [(2) gourd luffa/Chinese okra, (2) pork, (2) crab meat] ($13.95) My gosh, I dream about these dumplings. I could've easily devoured a dozen more. I was doing a happy dance every time I ate one! The wrappers were just right: not too thin or too thick, slightly stretchy, and chewy. The soup was steamy, savory, and comforting on a cold winter day. Out of the three kinds, the pork and crab fillings were the winners! The ground pork was juicy and well-seasoned, while the crab was sweet and briny. TIP: GENTLY pick up the dumpling by the top knot to avoid tearing the wrapper and spilling the soup. Place it on a spoon, bite a small hole at the top, and slurp away. Sip the broth first, then enjoy the filling and wrapper! *Braised Beef Noodle Soup ($16.45) - Y'all should have seen my face when I took my first bite of the beef. It was unbelievably tender, packed with flavor, and had that buttery, melt-in-your-mouth texture. They really know how to slow braise beef here! The broth was rich and hearty, but a little too salty for my taste. I loved the thick, bouncy noodles! *Pork Chop Noodle Soup ($14.45) - This was my least favorite. The breaded pork chop was a bit tough and rubbery, making it hard to bite through. The sweet & salty soy glaze on top was tasty, though. The real highlight was the broth - creamy, light, and savory with a subtle sweetness! It reminded me of a tonkotsu ramen base. If the pork had been more tender or a higher-quality cut, this dish would've been much better. Overall, I liked the braised beef more, BUT I actually preferred the pork chop's broth. It was lighter and more balanced, while the beef broth was heavier and saltier. We left feeling VERRRRRRY satisfied with our meal. This isn't your typical Chinese-American takeout... this is a different league. I'd happily make the 1-hour drive down here just for these soup dumplings!
This was one of those long overdue visits, the kind where it's a so close by that you put it off only to realize you should've gone ages ago. Part of me just avoids this plaza all together on weekends because it's nearly impossible to find parking. But glad I overcame that and gave Tasty Moment a go. We started with Cucumber in garlic sauce which was simple but tasty and a great accompaniment with all the dishes that followed which included the specialty: Crab and pork soup dumplings. I appreciate how those and the Pan fried pork dumplings had a thin outside later with a juicy interior, perfect for a cold winter evening! The standout for me was the Crispy eggplant with sweet and sour sauce - I usually prefer meat dishes but would return or this one. The Cumin beef fried rice reminded us of biriyani and the noodles were nothing memorable but overall great experience. To note: it's BYOB and be prepared to wait. We were told 45 minutes and it was almost exactly that long. Luckily, there's plenty of stores to browse in the place while you wait.
New go-to spot unlocked for mapo tofu! Somehow never been here despite always hanging around festival plaza but wish I had sooner. It is always busy and I would recommend signing up for the waitlist remotely or shopping hmart while you wait Despite that the food came out fast and service was great, turnover rate for tables is also fast I got the mapo tofu (felt so good after recovering froma cold) and my friend got the pepper steak and both of us absolutely demolished our plates. I'd recommend dining in family style bc I took the leftovers home and they did not hold up well the next day
Pork soup dumplings are amazing! Skin nice and thin and loaded with juice. Be sure to eat it carefully so you don't lose the scrumptious juice. I ordered the fried eggplant with pork - which wasn't what I expected because it's basically fried eggplant with a thick gooey sauce on the side. The sauce was too thick. The noodles with pork was good. Long line even on a weekday evening, and service was a little slow (but not too bad) however worth it for the soup dumplings. I'll have to try other dishes next time!
Excellent.. authentic... supreme...this is the Birkin level of soup dumplings... I dream about it in my sleep.. friendly and attentive staff.. I have a toddler.. they treat her well.. plenty of choice and selection.. family style.. modern Chinese vibe and plenty of parking.. "best vibe".. top choice if I am in Edison for lunch..
As a Shanghainese, this is the best Shanghainese restaurant I have visited in the last 10 years. Without further ado, the food I recommend the most is Shredded Eel with Scallion in hot oil, 响油鳝丝, simply because you can't get these anywhere else. The second is the crab Xiao Long Bao. The best in East Coast so far.
My husband and I arrived right after their lunch break. Just before the doors opened the line was pretty long. The whole entire restaurant was filled. The server approached us and suggested soup dumplings. Which was the best decision we made. We ordered the braised pork, fried rice, string beans, and wonton soup. Everything was delightful. The service was great. Very friendly staff. I kept telling my husband how my children would love the food.(they didn't come along, they were out with grandparents) It is definitely family friendly. I will be back with my family.
Still tasty! Tried to expand our taste buds to new flavors but we still loved what we had gotten in the past so much that we had to get them again...but my husband did try sweet soy milk and mentioned that was good Scallion noodles are still good. The green beans are surprisingly good. Taro with tofu skin is good too - we keep getting warnings saying this is sweet every time we order this, which is interesting. Still good. Sweet. But good. I got the spicy XLB this time instead of the normal XLB and asked for ginger and chilli sauce on the side. It was spicy but delicious. Service is fast (after the 30 mins - hr wait). Place is ALWAYS busy. We reached like 10 minutes after it reopened in the afternoon/evening and we still had a 30 minute wait! But once seated, service is fast and servers are friendly. Ambiance is good. Not too big of a place but big enough to have your own space bubble.
Came here for lunch with a group of coworkers. We were seated quickly as we weren't averse to taking the larger table by the front entrance. Staff was super friendly and attentive. 2 orders of pork soup dumplings and 2 orders of spicy pork soup dumplings to split. Absolutely delicious!! I ordered peppered steak over rice for my entree. Peppered steak was perfectly prepared and seasoned. It was delicious. Be prepared to wait, but remember, it's crowded because it's good . Highly recommended.
ATTENTION! Tasty Moment (located right in Edison, NJ) left me speechless... Mommy's been ranting and raving about this place, she finally took me and... I get it. Authentically delicious! Place was packed but the service was so efficient. Go, eat anything everything, but make sure you get that rice!
Our second time here. This spot used to house Papa Rich Malaysian Food. Now, it's Tasty Moment featuring Shanghai-style Chinese Food. The place is nice and neat. Ample room for a group of 5. The servers were polite and courteous. They were also prompt to respond. The food was excellent. They were full of flavor. Nothing was dull or over seasoned. The prices are reasonable and really worth it. This is definitely a place worth coming back to.
Outstanding service paired with some of the finest culinary offerings in the location. My only gripe is, I would love to see more vegetables incorporated in their dishes. I've ordered several noodle soup bowls and the vegetables are at minimal. The atmosphere is sleek and inviting, making it a must-visit spot when you're in the area. read more

The wait can be long especially on the weekend. We went on a Friday at 6pm and had to wait 30 minutes so we went to Hmart and shopped while we waited. There's a good amount of seating inside to have a party of 6 but might be a longer wait. The food overall was pretty good but we would not wait longer than 30 minutes. read more

Was recommended to try this place and was glad I stopped in for lunch. They seem to be really popular so 30 mins before opening a line was forming already. We got in line 10 mins briefer opening and maintained to get one of the last tables of the first seating. It was my first time trying spicy pork suup dumplings and I loved it. The chilli oil was not that spicy but had great aromatics and the pork was very flavorful. The sink was thin, just the way I like it, and Held the soup very well. The scallion oil noodles were simple but very tasty. But my favorite dish was the crab rice casserole. It was creamy and had lots of crab with slightly undercooked rice. At kinda ate like a risotto, I loved it and crave this dish all the time now. Can't wait to go back agin next time I'm in Edison again. read more
A must-go! Food, ambience, service, all good. Server (guy) speaks English & Mandarin and was able to start an order with the chaos of the 11:30am open & holiday crowd. Tip: make a reservation if you know how many people will be in your party but they do not seat you unless everyone is present and they will count your group to make sure! Nice table setup. Condiment pourer is black vinegar. Ice water is E.Brunswick tap water so hot tea is a better option. All of the food was delicious. Order soup dumplings to start so those get started, if you're not sure what else to order. If you're not a fan of Sichuan peppercorn flavor, be careful what you order. The fried fish with seaweed batter was not overly flavored with the seaweed so it was a perfect balance. Soup dumplings had plenty of broth in them. The spicy soup dumplings have a good burn go down into your belly. Sliced noodle roll was soft and tasty. Shanghai chow mein was a bit too saucy and sweet to my liking. Shanghai bok choy cooked perfectly. We had 8 people. Entrees are much bigger than I thought they'd be and ordered a lot as first-time there. So, we had leftovers. Dining bill was $240 including tip. That included a 5% discount for cash payment. If you don't get a reservation and need to wait, there are plenty of stores, including Hmart, in the shopping plaza that you could probably go to while you wait for a table. read more
The star of the show is Shanghai pork soup dumplings. They get a 4/5 imo, could have more soup inside (only had 1-1.5 sip) - good size skin (not thin like frozen kind, not too thick for handmade) - juicy pork filling - not enough soup inside :( The braised pork feet noodle soup lacked veggies and depth in the broth. There were several pieces of pork feet. Noodles tasted kind of bland because the soup was slacking. The sauteed pork udon was decent and had lots of sauce. There's ample pork bits and mushrooms, could've used more greens for color like green onions. However, this dish was very salty. Something about all the food we ordered was oily and really salty, left us dehydrated. The shrimp and scallop with XO sauce was not worth $20. It was primarily small shrimps and a handful of scallops with four chunks of cut asparagus. The food looked so small, even presented on a big dish. This also came with a bowl of white rice. The curry pork chops over rice was interesting, the curry being the best part. It had a bit of a kick to it, but it had decent seasoning (could've had more). This location is very busy, always people lining up and waiting. We waited about 35 minutes, which is why we come and put our name and table size down first and then go do our grocery shopping at Hmart and look at the other stores. Parking can be difficult depending on the busy hour. There are two private bathrooms. Our service was okay, not terrible. It's hard to get the attention of the server sometimes, but he was nice and spoke English with patience. When we asked for another chopsticks, he gave it to the wrong table. My party of 2 visited on a Saturday around 12pm, and waited for about 30 minutes before being seated. There is generally a line forming outside the restaurant on the weekends before opening, so be ready to wait for a bit and don't forget to join the waitlist. We ordered the pork soup dumplings, pan fried pork buns, picked pork rice cake, and honey shrimp balls. The dumplings and pork buns are always must order dishes for us. The rice cake was pretty standard, and the shrimp balls were very fresh and crispy, but a bit on the oily side for me. Overall a solid spot for Chinese food, especially whenever I'm craving soup dumplings! read more

Be prepared to wait, but there's a line for a reason. A staple in this Edison plaza, I've been here numerous times and it's always been consistently good. We went for lunch around 1pm on a Monday. Service was quick and our waitress was very helpful. We ordered the spicy pork and vegetables wonton soup, our server warned us that it's really spicy and if we wanted it less spicy, they can do that for us. So we opted for less spicy, which was really good but it was still too spicy for me lol. We also ordered the crabmeat and pork soup dumplings, the pan fried pork juicy buns, and the pepper steak which were all delicious! We didn't see a hot tea option on the menu, but they do have it, which was $4 a pot, plenty for 2 people. I highly recommend this place. read more

Tasty indeed! Consistent and good Shanghainese food. On weekends, the wait can get especially busy so be sure to get here early to put your name down. The restaurant is known for their soup dumplings - there are multiple flavors to choose from and always come out plump, juicy, and freshly steamed. I've never had loufa gourd and pork soup dumplings anywhere else before, and thought they were fun and tasty with the extra bit of texture. Besides the soup dumplings, one of our favorite dishes is the crispy fried eggplant, which is topped with a savory minced pork sauce. All other dishes have been great too, would recommend coming with a group to try more and share family-style. read more

**Not What I Expected** I really wanted to love this place because it was so nicely decorated, but unfortunately, as i write this an hour after eating, I can still taste the horrific sauce for the eggplant dish. I didn't know that dumplings were their specialty until after ordering, and I do regret not trying them! **Disappointing Dishes:** - **Eggplant:** Flavorless and accompanied by a sauce that was just sweet with a hint of soy-- it felt like they were going for a general tso type sauce but drastically missed the mark and definitely not the bold flavors I was hoping for. - **Shrimp:** The shrimp was mushy and not high enough quality for the price. I understand takeout can change the texture, but this was pretty bad. - **Yams:** To my surprise, they weren't yams at all but some type of water chestnut, and again, zero flavor would be an understatement (water has more flavor). I left feeling unsatisfied and still tasting that eggplant sauce--yikes! If you're thinking about going here, I'd recommend checking out the dumplings instead of what I ordered. **Overall, I can't recommend this place based on my experience.** read more

This place always amazes me, been coming here for the past 3 years and it gets packed on the weekend. They do not take reservations over the phone. So just check in and shop at hmart or any nearby stores. Extremely convenient location with parking. The food is always great and arrives quickly. Love their modern twist of Shanghainese food. The xlbs are juicy and delicious. Shanghai udon noodles were the bomb. Another staple of theirs is their crab over rice or mushroom truffle over rice (I prefer the mushroom). read more

Foods are to die for! I prefer this soup dumplings over Din Tai Fung! Portions are big to fit 3 people. Family style. Long line on the weekend so get there to get on the waitlist and you can walk around the area. read more

We came back for lunch, the wait time was decent and we were seated within less than 20 minutes after arrival. Ambiance was the same as always. I ordered this fish soup with veggies that's typically sour and it's one of my favorite Chinese dishes. After 30-40 minutes and my husband having to ask the waitress they finally brought it back to me. Broth tasted off and the noodles were so soggy, and it made me lose my appetite. I had a couple pieces of the fish (which was really good) and requested to take it home. Most likely my husband will eat it later on. I had this same dish at other Chinese restaurants and by far this was the worst tasting one. read more
Our go-to for XLBs and comfort food in central jersey. Located in the same complex as HMart rt 27 in Edison, parking is extensive and ambience is comfortable and casual. Service is fast efficient and friendly. Our favorites here are their scallion noodles, soup dumplings ( pork, crab and pork) cumin beef fried rice. Their offerings of small dishes are also good like their jellyfish, chive boxes and sticky rice dumplings. Lines can get crazy during weekends but there are other little shops like boba teas and mango mango around if they wait gets crazy. read more

Last time I reviewed Tasty Moment was over 4 years ago at their old location. I needed to update this review as they had moved to a bigger location few years back and have become one of if not my favorite soup dumplings in New Jersey! For the longest time, Shanghai Dumpling had my heart. But lately Tasty Moment's broth has been on my mind. The amount and the flavor of soup is so so satisfying and much needed as it gets colder. I'm also a little biased since Tasty Moment was a big moment for special days this year, such as a warm romantic escape from a snowy night and also a pre-celebration to making it official. Aside from the sentimental moments at Tasty Moment, the food here always make me happy. My go to is always crab/pork soup dumplings and crispy eggplant with minced pork. I'm not even a fan of eggplant but the crispiness on the more squishy texture of eggplant is the best. The minced pork sauce is also flavorful and great to eat with white rice. Service is great and they were especially attentive in bringing my boyfriend tissues when the spicy soup dumplings was attacking his nose lol. They are very efficient and any wait goes by quickly. I can't wait to be back plenty of times this winter! read more

In all my travels I have never had to wait for a table for one. This was definitely a good sign. Waited 20 minutes for my table. Watching the staff they are all very efficient. Ordered the spicy pork soup dumpling which were one of the best I had. The MaPo Tofu was perfect, it was perfectly spiced and just the right of peppercorns. Finished with Chengdu Noodles which had chick peas which was different for the good. I will for sure go back my next time in town. read more
Chinese food at Edison,NJ My goto chinese restaurant when shopping at Edison Hmart. We like to start off with soup dumplings, black mushrooms in chinese vinegar and thinly sliced beef in hot chili sauce. We also enjoy braised beef noodle soup and fish with wine sauce. The jasmine rice is also very tasty. We had fried chicken wings and pork chop before but didn't like the sauces and pork chop was very dry. The restaurant doesn't take reservations and it is very busy on weekends and they have a break time between 4-5pm and close on Tuesdays. The service was very attentive and food came out very fast. If you pay with cash, you'll get 5% discount. read more
I've heard only great things about Tasty Moment and I have to say that they are all true! This is definitely the place you want to go for some dumplings and little dishes. My party of 3 arrived at around 12:00 on a Sunday, the wait was 30 minutes but honestly it took closer to 20. For the place being super packed, our waiter was very attentive and the food came out quickly. I love how they have an open kitchen and you can watch all of your dishes being cooked by the chefs. My favorite dish was definitely the beef noodle soup. There was such depth of flavor in the broth but not to mention the actual beef. The beef was super tender, melt in your mouth tender. The bok choy and shitake mushrooms was also great! My only complaint is that they fill the plate with baby bella mushrooms and put the shitake on top. These dumplings are like magic in my mouth! I have enjoyed Xiao Long Bao at other places, and I have to agree with other reviewers here that Tasty Moment makes a superior XLB. The proportions, textures, taste, and consistency are all perfect! The spicy soup dumplings brought the heat and I was sweating! I also devoured the hot oil noodles and the scallion pancakes. This place was hopping on a Thursday night with a 30 minute wait time. Fortunately there are large benches outside and the weather was pleasant. Staff was fast, polite, and accurate, and kept everything moving in this very busy establishment. Tasty Moment is easy to find and access in the corner of Festival Plaza in Edison in Route 27. There is lots of free parking in a huge parking lot. Thank you to Edward R. for his enthusiastic recommendation to eat here! I second it! read more

I have been looking for a dim sum spot for a while! there's not a lot in jersey so i was excited to eat here. I ordered the spicy pork dumplings and the crab meat one. The crab meat one was the best of the two. Super flavorful , soupy , and hot. We could've just ate all dim sum and been happy. I don't remember the names of the shrimp and pork belly dish but they were also very good. If you are coming here, definitely try to make a reservation. We had to wait 45 mins but it was saturday afternoon so that's not bad considering the time. The service was great, super attentive waiters. The restaurant is really nice. The only thing is i didn't love the cleanliness of the bathrooms. read more

service was excellent. the food i got was just ok. the soy milk was the best tasted like fresh soy milk to me. the soup buns were a bit too sweet i prefer saltier broth. the youtao was too dense wasnt airy and light. read more

Yes, i think by phone as when we entered the entire back of the resturant was reserved for a large party
I've noticed Tasty Moments is now located at the H-Mart strip mall, is it opened for business? Has anyone dined at this new location? Is the quality that of their original location? I've tried other restaurants who had relocated quality declined.
As someone who has tried both, I can say with full confidence that the quality is just as good, if not better than that of their original location.
If you order bubble tea to go do you still get it in a light bulb?
I don't think so, now they're in a new location or even new management, many items have changed except for the XLB.
