Guess what? Tasty pot has a Oceanside/Encinitas location. It opened in October 2023. I came on a Saturday night at 6pm. The restaurant was mostly full with 2 empty tables so I didn't have to wait. You order by scanning the QR code on the table but you pay at the cashier when you are done eating. My food came out fast. I ordered the beef hot soup with level of spiciness "very spicy", which is like a 7 out of 10 spicy. I didn't feel it in my tongue but it made me sweat and hits the throat more. I loved it! Loooooove that I don't have to drive to Mira Mesa for Tasty Pot. When I lived in Mira Mesa I would literally go twice a week. I always get the Taiwanese pot because it's spicy. Unfortunately at this location it wasn't as spicy as I'm used to, but they were able to give me more spice to solve the problem. The service was great! It wasn't too busy when we went on a Tuesday afternoon, but there was a good amount of people. I think if this place gets busier it'll have a long wait list because the location is a bit smaller. The parking situation can be frustrating if you're trying to park right in front of the restaurant. (Mainly because of all of the Wal Mart carts.) Let me tell you something the broth is amazing come's out hot full of flavor. Just in time for the cold winter night. Our fire never went out. My friend and I came here on a Sunday for a late lunch. We were greeted right away and were able to sit down within less than 5 minutes. The place was pretty busy, with at least half the restaurant filled with customers eating but they were able to acknowledge us and lead us to an empty table. We were also checked on often to make sure we were okay, refilling our iced green tea/water and broth if needed. The place is new so it's clean. Decors are bright and inviting, with two large televisions for entertainment. The music wasn't too loud, (a plus for me) which allows us to have a conversation comfortably. The friend was jamming to the music the whole meal. She loved the music choice for that day. My friend and I ordered the Thai seafood spicy and Thai vegetable pot. They didn't cheap out on the fillings, one pot can easily be two meals. The calamari and popcorn chicken was also fried to perfection, with a good level of seasoning. I have only been to one "hot pot" restaurant in my lifetime and it sucked ass in every facet of the game. So although I was reluctant I agreed; and am very happy that I did. The location is kind of in an obscure location, a remodeled corner of a strip mall that once house a Montgomery Wards store (for those old enough to know what this is, let alone any long time locals). We were greeted by friendly staff immediately upon entry. I was really happy to see that this restaurant serves INDIVIDUAL hot pots and it was not communal like my previous experience. I ordered the #2 Lamb Hot Soup (Napa Cabbage, Lamb Slices, Vermicelli, Enoki Mushroom, Imitation Crabmeat, Meatball, Fish Cake ,Kamaboko, Pork Blood Rice Cake, Fried Tofu Skin, Clam, Sour Mustard, Brown Beech Mushroom, Tofu, Cilantro, Pork bone soup); with an add on of Enoki Mushroom and extra Vermicelli. I ordered my soup at medium spice. We received our meals fairly quickly. The bowl was much bigger than expected and filled with goodness! The bowl sits in its own elevated holder which they offer to light the flame below (I did not, as the soup was plenty hot already). They were very generous with the Enoki Mushroom side, so much so that I added quite a bit to my soup and still had enough to share with everyone else. For the price of this meal I found it very much a good deal, especially compared to most restaurants these days. I thoroughly enjoyed my selection and ate the entire bowl - BURP! The very attentive and knowledgeable male waiter was more than efficient. He checked on us regularly, brought out drinks and waters in a timely manner (as well as a highchair for the 1 year old upon entry), to-go containers for the other adults (I guess I was the only glutton at the table), etc. A group of young Marines had already been eating when we arrived and upon their farewell they told the owners they would be back next weekend. We're so happy Oceanside has a place for good hotpot now so we don't have to drive an hour when we get the craving Hubs and I stopped by for lunch before picking up our son from school. It's such a cute spot with a few insta worthy decor. The owner is super sweet and took the time to explain the menu. Her mom makes the kimchi and egg rolls from scratch, and their various broth bases are made from bones that are simmered for hours. The pork and shrimp eggrolls are both so good we'd go back just for those. They have several pots that are preset, similar to other Tasty Pot locations, or you can customize or build your pot just the way you like it. We went for medium spicy Szechuan pot and added a lobster tail. They also do a sizzling plate with beef & garlic butter, either with rice or udon, and those are both so good too. The fried chicken and squid here are really good too and not greasy at all. The sesame balls are really good too. Portions are really generous, and for lunch you get a free sweet green tea. They also have happy hour all day on Mon & Tues with special deals on food, beer & soju. read more

I came to tasty pot to meet up with a friend and I have to say it's as consistent quality wise as the other chains. However, I do like this one because it's more of a mom and pop shop kind of vibe. I've been to the tasty pot in Mira Mesa, San Diego, and I feel like this one has more options in terms of appetizers. I saw that they had the fried stinky tofu as well as the taiwanese style fried basil chicken which looked good but I didn't get a chance to try it. I'll definitely have to try it next time! It's a bit of a small space, I recommend for groups of 4 to 5 people. they also have the option of whether or not you want the flame to keep your soup boiling which is nice and I don't think they charge extra for it. Staff is very nice, always refilling your water and asking if you need anything. I just wish that they had more variety with their Boba options. I do like how they have a lot of alcoholic beverage items if you're looking to drink with friends! read more

Third time's a charm! This is my third time at Tasty Pot & finally ready to make a review. I appreciate that they are always adding new stuff to their menu and taking out what doesn't work. I felt the portion sizes were decent for the price point. It's nice to have an individual Taiwanese hot pot place up in north county. Differing from Japanese Shabu Shabu, all the ingredients already come precooked in your pot and the addition of the temporary fire helps keep your food warm the entire meal. My favorite pot here is the Curry pot, as it has a nice mixture of pork and assorted fish balls and a light spice level. The Beef and Japanese miso are also favorites. We tried their popcorn chicken bento boxes this time and it was a real hit with our kiddos. The torpedo shrimp had a nice crispy interior but we weren't a fan of the shrimp itself as it was overly soft. The strawberry kiwi lemonade with rainbow jelly was tasty, although more on the sweet side. All in all, a great meal and opportunity to eat Asian food without the long drive to Mira Mesa and Convoy. read more

The Japanese Miso was a 3/5, assuming it is a premium pot and pricier than the other pots, we thought it would be bigger in size/more ingredients like other tasty pots/hot pot places but it wasn't. The Stinky Tofu was a 2/5. There was a lack of stinky tofu flavor and there were only two pieces of small tofu / the tofu tasted spongy and was one of the worst "stinky" tofus I've ever had. My friend group got a total of 11 pots and all of them came out with so little soup which made it look very unappetizing. Service was alright. read more
