Huck's Place in Columbus, MS, is a creole cuisine dining spot. It has a flair of New Orleans with…read morecountry cooking. The restaurant presents a rustic vibe and has all the college flags you can imagine making it an ideal place for both families and friends. It has a ton of seating especially for large parties. Huck's specializes in traditional Southern dishes, offering favorites like fried catfish, crawfish nachos, and shrimp and grits. The prices are reasonable, making it a great choice for casual dining without breaking the bank. Huck's Place offers a genuine taste of Southern hospitality combined with delicious home-cooked meals.

Service was swift and prompt. The vibe in the place is like elevated sports bar. I enjoyed the decor, TVs and lighting. For the food: Red Beans and Rice - 4 out 5. Star of the show. Great flavor, very well seasoned. Wish I had bowl instead of a cup. Gumbo - 2.5 out of 5. Seemed heavy on file. The color was right, but it felt lighter than I'm used to. Lacked some flavor, but salt made it more floral. Caesar - 3 out of 5. Fairly pedestrian. Nothing outstanding. Dressing a little too sweet, mayo-ey. Ribeye - 3.5 out of 5. May not be a popular opinion, but it loses all the flavor marks for me cause of that "jus" they put on it. WAY to sweet. Distracts from an otherwise awesome cut of beef. Medium Rare was cooked perfectly though and pieces without the sweet sauce were tender and delicious. Special review: Loved the fries. Sucker for that almost battered taste. Crispy and fluffy.

Customer service: spot on great experience…read more Food: it was ok. The Mexican salad was watery and a strange consistency. Presentation/delivery: this was ordered several weeks in advance as a catering order to be picked up. I chose the specific salads, sweet treats, and crackers and chips. I understood that everything would be on a platter ready to lay out on the table for the meeting I was hosting. Sweet treats would be cut and arranged on a platter. I selected all of the specific items I wanted abd prepaid. Fast forward to pick up day. The order wasnt ready. When i showed up, staff was scrambling to put the order together. They pulled the salads that I ordered from the refrigerator, cut the sweet treats bars (although they didn't have any of the bars I ordered), and threw everything in bags. Not only I didn't get what i ordered, but it wasn't presented as expected. There was no point in ordering ahead--I still had to wait. Then I had to go to the office and arrange everything on serving platters. So completely frustrating. Outcome: will not return.

While none of them have tasted quite as good since then (something about working up an appetite on the beach?), we still really enjoy a rare opportunity to eat at one. I knew we would be ready for lunch after a morning at a local museum, so I had researched possible venues earlier that morning. I showed my wife a short list and she immediately gravitated to Roly Poly. That would have been my first choice too. This one (the last one remaining in Birmingham, apparently) is in the Homewood neighborhood / area. It is located on a busy street with shops and plazas lining both sides. These look like they were built no later than 1950 but have evolved and been renovated as new tenants cycled through. We did angled parking on the street out front, but there may be better / easier parking on surrounding side streets. The only issue we had was backing out into traffic when we left; it took a few minutes for a gap. You enter and order at the counter. They have menus available there for you to check out. They have a rack of chips available, plus maybe other sides? I didn't look beyond the chips. You then sit down and wait for your order. I guess they have call-ahead too. Seating is along the wall to the right as you enter. There is a long bench the length of the wall with separate 4-person tables spaced along it, with 2 additional chairs each. Our order seemed to take a while, but it may have just been what we ordered (hot sandwich) versus other simpler orders getting filled faster. I got the French Twist, which is my favorite. I only got a regular and not a large, but I think I could have finished a large. My wife got something else, chicken-based I think. We both enjoyed this a lot. If I lived in the area, I'd probably stop in here semi-regularly.

If you've never had meat (or VEGGIES!) cooked on a BGE, it will change your life. This fact alone will bring me back to try other things. Before I get into the meal, my only real complaint was that they only had a soda machine and tea. I had brought my mother along, and she already had lunch and wanted just to sit and chat. As it was a very cold day she was gonna order a coffee and they don't offer anything hot! It's definitely an opportunity to expand here even if it was just so simple as putting a Keurig machine in the back. I had the Buffalo Chicken Wrap. It is served with grilled chicken in a grilled wrap and cheddar cheese. If there was a buffalo sauce, I didn't taste any. I was a little disappointed in the wrap. The flavor didn't really stand out as being cooked on the Big Green Egg. The cheese wasn't really melted, which can be a common problem with shredded cheddar cheese, but it also didn't really have the buffalo flavor that I was looking for in a buffalo chicken wrap (maybe it was a Toledo Ohio wrap I don't know just not spicy. ) It served with a side of ranch which I juiced up with some Cholula and that helped. I i'm not knocking the quality of the food because it was good. It just didn't live up to the expectations I had in my head based on the menu description. It also came with a side, which I chose the broccoli salad. This was nicely done with bacon, I believe some quinoa and the broccoli was chopped up nicely so you didn't have huge chunks. Also, it wasn't overly sauced so that would make it runny. Overall I give the property four out five stars. Also, the flavor of the whole meal was fine. Good size portion and good value for your money.
