I was there for a conference and staying at a nearby hotel. This was a short distance away and I am glad it was. Because I walked, I didn't know where their parking was located but there is a parking lot in the back and side street. Very cool set up with bar seating. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I would recommend their happy hour. The Margaritas were really good and street tacos were small but filling. I enjoyed them so much I went back a 2nd day. They have outside seating also. I can see a small group coming here and having a great time. I was traveling solo and still had a great time sitting at the bar. It's a great location with the riverwalk in walking distance and you can walk off food if you indulge too much. If in town again, I will be back. read more

Parking is kinda funky but we found space near the front door. Visited Friday afternoon & immediately seated. We had Guanabana flavored margaritas on the rocks, and it was surprisingly pretty good! They had a special $20 for a pitcher for 4 ppl. Fajita gumbo was really good and hot! The noodle soup however was warm & didn't look good so I passed on it. They also have good music. I ordered a shrimp street taco. The shrimp were perfectly grilled and of generous portions. The onions AB's cilantro were fresh and perfectly complimented the shrimp! The guacamole is possibly the best guacamole I've ever had at a restaurant. And these tortilla chios are so thin and crispy...just as they should be. The salsa is good too. read more

SO. GOOD. There are so many options in Tuscaloosa and but I really wanted Mexican and it looked good and also kind of empty so we went because we were starving. Don't let the looks decieve you, there were a lot of people in there and it was such a cute place, we got a table by the window and we got to overlook the town! The pictures on the menu do such a disservice because the food looks and tastes amazing. I am obsessed with chorizo burritos and I was thrilled to see that you could order a chorizo burritos because not a lot of Mexican places seem to have it and it's not always that good. The chorizo was so amazing and the whole burrito was so filling. I was so excited and I ate every bite! Our waitress was so kind and helpful, telling us about the town and the school. The salsa and burrito sauce were homemade and delicious! The restaurant was so calm and the perfect place to go after visiting campus to settle down and debrief. While this place is unassuming and a little off the beaten path from downtown Tuscaloosa, I would not pass it up. I visited with a friend for lunch, and while we were only the second group in there to start, that didn't last long. By the time we left, many tables were filled, and I could understand why. As far as Mexican goes in Tuscaloosa, this place is pretty good. While I didn't try a margarita, the prices are cheap compared to other places, and the food was similarly priced. The salsa was very fresh and very tasty, and the chips are thinner than your usual tortilla chip (which is a big win for me). I could've made a meal of just that. Instead though, I got some Al pastor street tacos, which were very good. I also got refried beans as my side and while they were good, they were soupier than normal. Overall, the meal was great, the atmosphere was nice, and the service was good. My only complaint was that things were wrong on both my friend and i's bills, which I read in reviews was a common mistake. These were fixed immediately, and didn't cause any issues. Can't wait to come back for more of those chips, maybe some queso, and definitely a margarita! read more

Another game weekend in Tuscaloosa. We stay at Embassy Suites in downtown Tuscaloosa which is in the middle of the increasingly amazing dining scene here. We had reservations again at Side by Side for dinner Friday but had nothing set up for dinner Saturday after the 11AM game. We got the inlaws situated with sandwiches (they didn't want to get out) and we set our sights on Loco Lupe's which we can see down the hill towards the river from our hotel. I have been social media stalking Loco Lupe's and found that they claimed to serve craft margaritas made from fresh squeezed limes, not from a mix. Sounded right up our alley so we walked down the hill to check them out. It's not super easy to get to by car right now. The entire street in front of it is ripped up and is nothing but dirt. Walking up to it was a bit tricky but manageable. Inside the front door we were greeted by staff and they found us a table right away. Service was pretty good and prompt. At one point the owner or manager (not sure which) sat at a table beside us and chatted us up. He was nice and quite informative. He was able to answer everything we asked him. The drinks and the food were very good. Helen got cheesy rice and proceeded to have all the veggies she could order on top of it. I got a Shrimp chimichanga and it was delicious! Helen loved hers as well. The chips, queso and salsa were all on point too! This is a solid Mexican restaurant in downtown Tuscaloosa and we had a great time! The drinks and food were done well and with care. I will go back in the future for sure! read more

The bean and cheese nachos were literally tortilla chips, beans, and cheese, and everything was flavorless. Rice was like textured air. Normal ingredients for a Mexican meal were all add-ons. Probably more of a drinking establishment read more

Service was not good- had to ask cleaning lady for something since our waiter did not come. It wasn't even busy. Everyone had bad attitudes too. Food was not well cook. Birria tacos were floppy and the meat was horrible. The dipping sauce"consome" was just grease and oil and the meat was definitely not cooked in that. Horrid experience will never go back. read more

Portions are tiny, and presentation is not great. Got one of the orders wrong, when they went to get the food fixed it took longer than it took us to eat our food and to pay. The restaurant ties 15% gratuity to all dine in meals which seems very fair for the waitresses to ensure they are making money for their hard work. The quesabirria tacos were very good even though they are a little smaller. The street tacos were amazing and the chicken quesadilla was a table favorite. Cheese dip was pretty good and the chips are good also the only thing we weren't too fond of were the beans and rice but it was a little close to closing when we came in. All around great! White-washed Mexican food, comparable to Chuys. Very small portion sizes for the food. The bartender made me the wrong drink then argued with me about it when it was very clearly the wrong drink (wrong color, wrong flavor, let 4 other people try it and they all agreed). They also add 15% gratuity for the servers and bar gratuity if you order a drink, then prompt you to tip at payment too, so it gets expensive quickly. Wouldn't go back. Our waiter was nice though and the flavor of the food was good. Just wasn't worth it to me when other, better Mexican places are in town. read more
