My original review because they were kind and accommodating: Tat Starz is professional and clean! They were ready for us and super helpful and nice even though we walked in an hour before closing!!! Got my best friend his first piercings! I also got my lip pierced, my 9th and 10th piercing, and this is the best place I've got one so far!! However, the lip piercing jewelry they used was too small. I couldn't clean them properly. My skin was trying to heal over them, and they were massively swollen. I had to have them professionally removed and have yucky scars. Hopefully, they have improved. I would like to think that it was a matter of rushing due to us coming in so late. It still really sucked for me though. All things equal, just be careful, well-researched, and less impulsive with your piercing purchases! read more

Was an amazing experience. After a botch sales experience at the famed & my previous go to shop Downtown Tattoo, I took my best friend to the best hidden gem in Nola, tattoo wise. I've gotten two very different tattoos here & they were so well done & the staff ALL so friendly. They make you feel like family & answer any questions you have; after all your tattoo is permanent. I highly recommend going to either Liz who tattooed a lovely black & grey scale Athena on my best friend or Mitch, the man who brought my Draco, pet pigeon to life. The other artists are just as talented & I can't wait to try them out for their specific genres. But again, fairly priced, super clean & professional & the spirit of NOLA. As a former bartender for many years, I of course went the route of Henry Rhodes at Downtown & while I love his work, I have been turned off by his rude & condescending female secretary. So I'd rather go somewhere where it feels like home where it's just as beautiful , professional, & they have better parking. Go check them out! read more

Despite the rather seedy location this place was wonderful! Very clean, well run, plus a great environment. My daughter had her nose pierced and everything was kept extremely clean and sterile. The girl doing the piercing was quick and efficient and changed into fresh gloves several times during the procedure. We will definitely go back for tattoos in the future. All the artists here are fantastic. Mecca is a friend of mine and she is as awesome of a tattoo artist as she is a person! On week days you can usually walk in no problem - just depends on the week. The location does seem sketchy but the shop is the cleanest I've seen in nola. They don't even let you have a guest on the floor with you while they're tattooing. Great shop and minimum is $60. They do piercings too. read more

Most of the staff was nice but if you want to get a tattoo that means something to you, don't get the new guy Jimmy. He's clearly in a bad space and the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars. I wanted a very personal tattoo of my dead mother's handwriting of my name and he basically shamed me into getting a very shoddily done version of it for $80 in the opposite direction and I really feel like my boundaries have been crossed and wish I could take the tip back. Let me start by saying I personally think writing a Yelp reviews is for someone with more time and concern than I have, however, while doing some research on a second tattoo I am hoping to get, I was drawn back to this shop and I thought my experience was so incredible I had to recount it. I got my first tattoo here a few months ago. I am from Denver and I am attending school at Tulane in the fall. While at one of the school's incoming freshman events I decided to I was going to get a tattoo. I did very little research into the shop artist etc (rookie move but it paid off) I just knew I did not want a tattoo from a tourist shop on bourbon street on in the French quarter. So I headed with my dad (I'm only 17) to this shop. I called around 11 pm asking if there was any availability, which there was, so we walked over. I talked to Nikki for all of 5 minutes before she knew exactly what I wanted. She was incredibly friendly and cooperative. The shop is cash only (which we did not realize prior, but should have...as that's the way most parlor safe...again I'm a rookie) and immediately did not have the correct amount of cash for the tattoo let alone a tip. However she was more than happy to do the work anyways. My lucky day because she did an incredible job...she is a phenomenal artist!!!! We flew home in the morning so we mailed her a tip and the amount for the rest of the tattoo from the hotel (hopefully she received it...mailing money is far from a guarantee) Anyways, I can not wait to come back here...and bring some other students along with. Still makes me excited speaking about it to this day! read more

my friends and I came to Tat Starz during our vacation - very spontaneously. my friends got a tattoo from Beezie & I got 2 piercings from him as well which healed up extremely nice. He was super down to earth. The atmosphere was like your typical tattoo parlor. there was, however, a particular artist who had a slight attitude because we did not want her business. we came specifically for Beezie. I guess because I asked her how much she charges, she figured I wanted her to do the for me. I only asked out of curiosity. I found it pretty unprofessional to address that issue while customers were there and it created a weird vibe.. other than it, it was cool! next time I go back i'll definitely request Beezie again! read more

Although they do have some great artist there, some of them are not. I paid in full for a tattoo (425$). I sat there for hours and then was told to come back. However due to an unfortunate event ( a lady checking her phone and then touching the area where my tattoo was being put. I broke out into an intense rash and ended up with scarlet fever and from what the nurses said a third degree burn.) I am now fully recovered from it a sum of months later. So, I called them to see if someone would finish it within the shop and they denied my request so basically just wasted 425 dollars on an unfinished piece. Furthermore, when I called the person on the phone was rude as hell. Worst customer service and poor quality when it comes to cleanliness. read more

I should've walked out when I saw how rude and attitudeish the guy Jason was but only because of his sweet girlfriend did I stay. I came in to get a flower tattoo with a shade of red on the inner part of the petals that turned to orange then yellow as you got to the outer edge. He claimed to understand what I wanted but then colored the entire flower red and outlined it in yellow, which looks tacky. I also asked for a butterfly and when I saw that he didn't finish coloring in the butterfly, I asked if he would. He claimed that I should listen to him, he's the artist, he knows what he's doing, what I requested was tacky, I shouldn't be so picky and refused to color it all the way in. If I'm paying for permanent art then I should get what I want colored in how I want. Needless to say, my tattoo looks a couple years old and it's brand new. I would never recommend this shop to anyone. FYI it's against health code for them to use a jar of A&D ointment instead of single use packs. Germs and everyone's blood from his gloves are going in and out the same jar he uses for everyone. read more
