The service here was good, staff were attentive and pleasant. The food prices were slightly high for portion size. Quality of food was good with some adventurous flavours. We ordered Cesar's which tasted good except the menu advertised that they came with meat, cheese, olive, onion and bean garnish and none of them had the cheese. The wings were top notch. The Valentina mayo that comes with the sweet potato fries is dynamite. If you're a vide head you'll appreciate the sous vide chicken and lamb offering. They seem to have some good deals on lunch as well as happy hour. However, nothing competes with the service. Firstly, what a lovely location and beautiful outlook. Atmosphere feels cosy and warm. Lady who greeted us was wonderful and she then often checked in on us, which was great as I was there with my two children after a long day. She made us feel very welcome. I SO wanted this place to be a WIN! It was so lovely looking, and care had clearly gone into the way the restaurant was designed and the way it looked and felt, and I enjoyed the ambiance very much. I sat there thinking 'wow this is a completely lovely place to be, can't wait to eat after so many excellent reviews.' However, 1. Waiter left us for large periods of time, and at one stage completely forgot to bring us something we'd ordered. 2, I think the 3 main burgers we'd ordered were microwaved. There were no grill marks or any caramelized pan marks at all. The meat was pasty and grey, and full of fat and gristle. Not good. Accompaniments with the meal were small and paltry and looked and tasted very unsavory. 3. Kids meals were pretty ok, which was redeeming, however hugely expensive for what it was. 4. Cocktails weren't nice. Just weird tasting. 5. Did I mention the burgers seemed like they were microwaved? 6. Got overcharged by our waiter, which no one noticed, and were happy to charge us, until I spoke to the manager who said 'oh he must not have know what to charge you, so he put this in'.... (Huh???) Fortunately she removed this charge. 7. The Brussel Sprouts were the only redeeming feature. They were pretty spot on. All in all, an interesting evening. Fantastic service, delicious food, large selection of beers and cocktails. We tried this place after being turned away from a different restaurant for not having reservations and these guys sat us immediately. Our server was friendly, made good recommendations, and our food came out of the kitchen super fast. The view from the patio is gorgeous, and even though it was a cold day they have warming lamps all over to keep patrons warm and comfortable. This was an excellent experience, and I will definitely come again on our next visit to Canmore. read more

The service was fine but ordered the jerk chicken tacos while the flavor was ok the ratio of chicken to all the other stuff on the tacos was so far off I could barely taste the meat. We strolled in for lunch one day after arriving. We had the tavern burger and chicken sandwich and both were really good. The portions were good. The quality of the meat on both was excellent! The chicken breast was large, juicy and perfectly grilled. Came back the next day and had the same thing as they were lunch specials served with a side and a drink. They also have live music at times in the evening and a late night menu. We tried the wings on the late menu and they were yummy (breaded is not our favorite, but these were good but could have been crispier). This place is worth what you pay for the meal! Our last meal of our vacation and we could not have been happier. Beautiful setting on porch outside, wonderful food, and great service. The adult Meals we ordered were two different kinds of their poutine and the lamb burger. The sweet potato fries were awesome as well as their dips for the fries (cucumber ranch and some other sort of fry sauce). My daughter ordered their kid's picky platter and it may be her favorite kids meal of all time (cheese, pita bread, fruit, veggies, dip and fries). This was exactly the spot we had wished for our entire week in the area and we were sad to not discover until last day. While the diverse food and drink was certainly a draw for us in our week in Banff in January, what really sealed the deal was Tavern 1883s willingness to show the NFL playoff games on request, making sure we were sat at a table with good TV proximity. Our waitress was friendly, accommodating, and general a joy to chat with. While none of the food sticks out in my mind now as a stand out dish, my group of four was all happy with our diverse choices - appetizer, entree, and dessert over a 3.5 hour period of watching the game. Eating in and outside of Banff is a very touchy endeavor. Especially when you're on vacation and want to seek out the very best deal and experience. We chose this place because it didn't seem too terribly priced. We shared the duck nuts and the wild boar burger. The duck nuts we're supposed to be these duck confit stuffed risotto "balls", but all I seemed to taste was risotto and maybe a faint essence of confit. The aioli that they came with was too mayo tasting though the tomato jam was a savings grace. I just personally wouldn't order these again, though my SO enjoyed them. The wild boar burger was wonderfully tender and we ordered the small poutine which was a minimal upcharge. The waitress explained to us that their poutine was very classically done at the restaurant and the gravy seemed to have the taste profile of a very rich au jus. We enjoyed it for our first taste of Canadian poutine. The restaurant itself was very warm and inviting. Not pretentious at all. This is a solid restaurant choice for anyone looking for a reasonably priced meal in Canmore. read more

we went here based on the reviews we saw here. we were very disappointed with the whole experience. i was served my drink before we ordered our food, it was finished before they delivered the appetizers, and it was never refilled even after asking multiple times. we had the sweet potatoe fries and brussel sprouts for appetizers but were unable to eat more than a couple bites as they were way over salted. we both ordered the elk burger to try something new. it was the driest meat i had ever had, you could tell it was handformed from the finger marks all the way around, it was over an inch thick in the middle and pointy around the edges. i will not go here again. read more
