Service and food were both amazing! After dinner, we were given a homemade sweet treat! We had the steak and fries, and it was delicious!

When in Montana, you gotta eat some steak! What better place than Tavern 287. My partner and I were thoroughly impressed with the high caliber of food and service we received. It looks like the menu changes every so often, so it's definitely going to be a repeat if we're ever back in Ennis.

Absolutely outstanding must visit in Ennis! The best spot for dinner!!! We came at opening at 3pm on a Saturday, the first diners in the door. We were warmly greeted by Bruce the owner and shown to a lovely bistro table in the window at the front, where we could watch passerbys. Bruce was such a delight to chat with that we got to gabbing quite a bit ahead of ordering our tasty items. At Bruce's recommendation, my hubby got a Midas Crush IPA from MAP Brewing, which he LOVED. I got a lovely glass of white wine, which went perfectly with our pheasant Rangoon. A sweet yet savory treat, I have recommend trying this app! I was laser focused on venison stroganoff and knew I was ordering that when I stepped in the door. Bruce encouraged my hubby into the elk osso bucco and I'm so glad he did. The venison stroganoff was light, lovely and fresh - I'm not sure you'd even know it was venison. Absolutely yum. But holy cow (elk?), that osso bucco! I think the best thing I ate on our entire trip... it's rich, balanced, and so so good. As a rule I tend to order elk whenever it is on the menu. If you've been waiting to try it, GET IT HERE. Absolutely outstanding!!! Bruce brilliantly recommended the Brickmason to pair alongside our meal. This lovely Lodi red balanced perfectly with our dishes. Highly recommend. Bruce's wife is a pastry genius. Don't sleep on that pastry case - omg the lemon macarons.... This is the best spot in Ennis for a delicious meal, start to finish. Bonus is that Bruce is a gem too. I plan to return as many times as I can when we are back next summer.

(Disclosure: I am friends with the owner. Having said that, this is an objective a review as possible.) Tavern 287 is, quite possibly, one of my favorite restaurants in the country. The menu is not expansive, but the preparations for said items are top notch! The bison meatloaf is consistently delicious, while the rotating ravioli (all their pasta is scratch made) is amazing! And if you're in the mood for appetizers, the pheasant rangoon can't be missed! The steak is probably my least favorite item on the menu, but it is still a decent steak. And let's talk about the desserts -- I highly recommend the cream puffs if they are available! And there is a rotating selection of macarons with both traditional and unorthodox flavors that are pleasing to the palate. There is no alcohol service at this time. However, in the evenings, the adjoining bar next door is available for purchasing your favorite libations. And you can also BYOB. Prices are in-line, if not slightly lower, than other restaurants in town. 10/10, would highly recommend!

Amazing cuisine in small town Montana! While Travelling through Ennis on a quick fly fishing stop, my wife and I checked out Tavern 287. We may as well have been at one of the swanky culinary institutes where apparently the chef has had some experience.. everything from scratch, freshest produce etc. The Beet Salad was great, Bison and goat cheese ravioli a 10 and the Elk Osso Bucco on homemade risotto will not disappoint! Call ahead, tough to walk in..

Very nice comfortable setting for dine in. However all items are available for takeout. They have had a daily $5 special for several months. This meal is essentially a lunch sized portion. Freshly made, and same quality of the standard menu. Saturday night is Prime Rib Special. Made to order with a loaded baked potato. So good!

Everything we tried was so so Delicious! Apple Brie sandwich, pork ramen, Irish beef stew. The French fries were SPECIAL! Better than any fries I've eaten in Los Angeles or nyc. Wow what a gem of a spot you must stop here!

Our meal tonight was pretty much perfect. The restaurant set back off 287 just in front of the Ennis RV Resort. Understated interior with big windows looking out on the Madison range. Not many tables so a reservation likely a good idea. Paced our service, no one rushing us. Our reservation was for 6:30 and we left around 9:30. Wonderful, seasonal menu, that proudly presents both Wagyu and Montana beef at its finest. Had a hard time making choices as there's so many items on the menu, I'd love to try. I did pass on the oysters that are flown in every day. But that was very tempting. I ended up going with the golden beet salad, which was outstanding with a raspberry vinaigrette. For my main course I couldn't help but go for the elk loin, two beautifully cooked rib on loins medium rare. Incredibly tasty and tender. For dessert we sampled the lemon cake and the flourless chocolate tart, both mouthwatering. There's a really nice wine selection that offers both by-the-glass and bottles. Amazingly found a 2017 Heitz Cellars Marthas Vineyard cab that paired up stunning with our elk and filet mignon. Entrees included tender but crisp asparagas and wonderful spaghetti squash. The food was ethereal, and the service was wonderful, always there butt not intrusive. I'm a huge fan of this place after just one visit, and trying to come up with excuses to come back.

The chef's came to everyone's table to discuss the menu and presentation of the gorgeous dishes. The lavender honey butter with the fresh bread was unique but so good. Fresh ingredients on every dish. Everything was plated well and tasted just as good. A family of antelope walked by the big window as we ate. Very cool. The menu changes often , so be sure to try all the unique fresh dishes.

The service took a little longer than I expected, but I assume it's because it was so busy. I had a latte and the chicken salad sandwich. The latte was delicious and had beautiful art on top. The chicken salad sandwich was good, but I wanted MORE of it in the sandwich. The ratio of chicken salad to bread was off, but still a tasty lunch. The potato chips were the perfect crunchy side to the sandwich. The food and drink is a bit on the expensive side, but not outrageously priced.

The wait is not that long.. we came here as walk in's 2x on our 1week stay that started in Bozeman, went down to Yellowstone, then to Idaho for UTV riding and then to Jackson Hole WY to go see the Teton National Park. It was nice to walk around the local shops while we waited and then afterwards to work off those delicious carbs. Thin crust pizzas clean, fresh, not heavy and seasonal ingredients. The crust is soooo good. Chewy and some char. We had: Montana Burger Royale My teen son dreams about this. Yes its 27.00 and he said its the BEST burger he's ever had. I would have to agree (and we live in Austin TX where there's great cow) -the burger meat melted in your mouth -the egg dripping as you break the yolk was perfection. The bacon so juicy, the brioche bun (that was the winning touch) We shared: Hot Honey Pizza- so good 9/10 Spicy Burrata- also great. 8/10 Mac n cheese- that was the only miss. Way under seasoned and the white sauce seemed to get sucked up by the pasta so the dish was super dry. 3/10 Frites and Fondue- fries were great. Thick cut with finely shaved pecorino. Could have used a heaping more of the shaved cheese. -the fondue was ok, seemed still under seasoned or just not creamy enough? I'd swap that for some roasted garlic with the truffle oil. 6/10 Local brews and ciders were great! 9/10 Huckleberry Cheesecake 9/10 save room for this bad boy. We split it between 4 people. Not too sweet. Tart and delightful! The world cup was on the TV so it was a hopping place even as it rained during a late June evening. Parking garage nearby is free for 2hrs so thats cool! It's basically a piece of steak served with fries, but the steak was so flavorful I completely forgot about the fries. As a pizza connoisseur and meat lover, I also had to try the Carne Pizza. It wasn't the best pizza I've ever had, but definitely wasn't the worst either. The Montana Burger was really good, and the bacon was amazing. My only personal complaint: they serve Pepsi products and I'm a Coke girl through and through. Overall, great atmosphere, great food, and absolutely worth the wait. Highly recommend checking it out
