Wow. Just WOW. We were fortunate enough to squeeze into (reservations strongly recommended) Tavern 287 on a Sunday night. I might have fibbed and said I called but I am so glad I did. The menu is simple and unique. Artisan yet home cooked style. From the savory butter served with the bread to the delicious house salad (I mean house salad delicious?? YES!!). Perfectly paired glass of Cabernet came with the OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD Steak Bordelaise. When presented all I could say was ..."WOW". I wish I took photos .... Darn it!! The service was friendly and neighborly. Word of advice .... Save room for dessert!! They are all homemade and NOT your run of the mill. Had a wonderful lunch in Ennis today. Super friendly place with incredible food. We came in at 2 pm but were interested in the dinner menu because of the reviews we read. The owner graciously served us from the dinner menu even though they don't offer it till 4. We had the steak, osobuco and ravioli. All were amazing! The macaroons are incredible too. The place lacks ambience but the food and service were very good. I ordered their ravioli. While waiting for our entree, the house salad and warm bread were good. My ravioli was excellent. Bob had the bison& pork meatloaf. It was very tasty. The mashed potatoes and gravy complemented it well. The green beans lacked sufficient seasoning. Bob added salt/pepper & butter and then they were okay. No wine or beer here, but we were invited to go next door to the Silver Dollar and bring a glass here. So, if we'd wanted to, that would've worked. read more

WHY are there not 10 stars?? If there where Id definitely give Tavern 287 10 stars....for everything!! My Husband and I have visited Bruce at T-287 and each and every time we were greeted like family, even on the first visit. I love me a local spot and it doesn't get anymore local than this. Located in bucolic Ennis T-287 exudes home town. Lets get into the food tho ... the tomato soup? perfect consistency and heat. This ABsoLUTEly does not come from anything canned. Its homemade fresh and you can taste it. OH ... the bread? my favorite part ! fresh baked and the butter is yummy. I could make a meal of that alone. The salads are perfectly portioned and a great compliment to the soup. I typically stick to the same thing each time ... the filet which is is mouth watering, no need for a knife perfectly paired with potatoes (sometimes french fries sometimes mashed) and the spot on amount of broccolini. I usually rush through a meal ... but when we make the drive over the hill we relax and savor and this filet demands to be savored. My Husband is the complete opposite of me... he tries all the menu options. Our last visit he had the Lobster Raviolis and he raved for days about them. Trust me ... you can screw up pasta and especially something as delicate a seafood ravioli and these were perfection!! Prior visits he had the Pheasant Rangoon (YUM!) and the Venison Stroganoff (TRIPLE YUM) ... side note third time he had venison and Bruces venison is NOT gamey (sp?) . We always have a glass of wine and take a gander in the fresh made dessert case and even though we are full beyond bursting ... cannot pass up whatever magical creations speak our name. AND THENNNNN Bruce sends us on our way with Macaroons!! The prices are beyond reasonable and the atmosphere totally welcoming. Had lunch here last weekend, the flatbread was good but omg the macrons & donuts with strawberries & chocolate drizzle were amazing! Brought the kids over tonight to give it a try and wow, did the meal ever exceed expectations! I ate here with my mom while we were on a road trip to Hell Creek. It was at first just a stop to get dinner and then ended up being a tremendously enjoyable conversation with the owner as we both had truly wonderful dishes. She had the pasta that she decided were "little pillows of love" and I had the elk osso bucco that was so tender that it was falling off the bone. We didn't have room for dessert, but had heard from the bar next door that we had to get the cheesecake. So we got it to go and two macarons too. My husband is French, so we go there to visit his family, and when we ate the macarons it was as if I was in Paris! We had no idea we'd find this lovely place in Ennis and it is well worth the visit! read more

Found myself in a little town in western Montana and enjoyed a great meal with my family. We all ordered a different dish from the menu and we each tried the many items offered, from the freshly made pasta to the local game dishes of venison, elk and bison each dish was delicious and satisfying. Only drawbacks were wait time on meals, reservation only and only one server that night (short staffed?) but he was the owner and was very agreeable and did a wonderful job. We were lucky to get in because of a cancellation. It was Friday and on the menu was all the fish you could eat. After a glass of wine and a great caesar salad. We were treated to one of the best fish dinners we have had in months while traveling the western states. The owner took great care of us and made sure we tried the cherry plum cobbler and coffee before we left. Stopped in because we were staying in Ennis, and it looked good. Service was great, but a little rough around the edges due to the newness of the restaurant- it just opened a few months ago. Most everything was excellent: soup, beet salad, and the elk osso bucco is fantastic. The bison ravioli were a bit under seasoned, but that was our only complaint. Excellent food and service right on Main Street in Ennis! Owner Bruce and Chef Bobby were both amazing and very informative about their menu. I guess it's easy when everything is made from scratch! The Bison and Goat Cheese Ravioli were delicious and generously portioned, the Smoked Steak with melted tomatoes was excellent, and the Elk Oso Buco was amazing as well. And of course the Prime Rib was incredible too! They don't have alcohol (yet) so we brought a bottle of wine with and they were perfectly accommodating. read more

Good food and pastries!!! It's a nice place to stop for a quick lunch. They run some pretty good daily specials.

The baked items are amazing, apparently they have an amazing baker! Their steak was tough and you pay a lot for it! I would suggest serving only certified angus beef and that will get you places for return customers looking for a great steak. The rest of the meal was great, dessert to die for! Clean and charming atmosphere, customer service totally awesome! Thank you for having normal business hours unlike the rest of the restaurant owners in Ennis who are constantly closed! Ive been coming to Ennis since I was in the womb.... One thing you can't say about Ennis like other small towns is that there is no where "good" to eat. Ennis has always had a top notch butcher, good steak houses, and cafes. The Continental Divide has always been an eclectic dining experience, and I've enjoyed their preparations a number times. This year, I came up with just my two tw/een children, and I wanted to take them somewhere really nice. After looking at menus, I made reservations for Tavern 287. Hands down- this restaurant is THE BEST RESTAURANT I have eaten at in Ennis, or anywhere in a very long time. We ordered the pheasant Rangoon, the beet salad, chicken scallopini, pepper crusted steak, and bison blue cheese ravioli. It was excellent!! The flavors were complex, and each dish had complimentary ingredients that exploded in your mouth while not overwhelming each other- you could taste and appreciate every ingredient separately. The execution of every dish was on point, to the "done-ness" of every meat, the fresh pasta, the perfectly stuffed ravioli. Even the vegetables on the side were cooked perfectly. And the Macaroons were the BEST we've ever had! They are my daughters favorite cookie-and her eyes rolled in the back of her head upon first bite. We will definitely be back! read more

Upon arrival we felt a little ignored as the waiter/owner was conversing with another table for about 10 minutes while we waited for a menu. After waiting about 30 minutes for our food the pot pie arrived cold. Another table was loudly voicing their frustrations about their food taking a long time, turns out he forgot to order their food. My husband and I came here on a last minute date night. We had read good reviews online so decided to give it a try. We were so glad that we did! We started with the truffle tater tots which were fantastic. It was a huge serving and we had plenty left. They brought out bread and butter for the table. The butter was delicious-slightly sweet, but still with the herb flavor. I ordered the bison and goat cheese ravioli which was absolutely fantastic. My husband ordered the ribs and said the flavor was top notch. For dessert we had the homemade pear crumble cheesecake with a caramel sauce on the side. We should have been too full to eat it, but we ate every last bite! As a happy surprise, they brought out two small macaroons at the end of the meal.
