2 Stars because of service alone. Came in on a Saturday night and the bar seats were all full so 3 of us got a table in the dining room. Our waitress (Mikayla I believe her name was) immediately came up. No mask, no smile just a mediocre welcome. We told her we were probably just doing drinks and an appetizer but needed a minute still to look over the drink menu. She brought over waters and then went to close out a few nearby times. Eventually she came back and got our drink order - Gin Rickey, Mojito and White Sangria. I will say all of our drinks were delicious and well made! Kudos to the bartender! We told our waitress we'd look over appetizers and probably get one with a second round of drinks. My sister said she had been at Tavern a month or so ago and took a really good shot - so she asked if there were any shots they were known for or a special, Mikayla just gave us a blank stare. Guess not. Must have been something the other bartender/waitress were promoting/selling last time my sister was there. So no shots or no offer/suggestion of one. Our waitress never returned - didn't come by to see how the drinks tasted, didn't come by to get an appetizer or a second drink order. Once my sister & my drink sat empty for awhile she came by and asked if we were ready for a check. Well I guess we are.....so much for an appetizer & another round of drinks. Our $25 table could have easily been a $60+ tab if she came back by so we could order another round and an appetizer. The service was definitely lacking on the dining room floor maybe we would have had better luck at the bar. My BIGGEST pet peeve is when you leave a restaurant and as you walk by the host stand or an employee on your way out (that isn't engaging with other guests and is clearly just standing there) and nobody says "thank you for coming," "have a good night," etc. As we passed the host stand and 2 servers, one being our own, nobody could say goodbye or thank you. We took our business to another establishment down the street where we ordered several drinks, several appetizers and had a way better experience than at Tavern on Main. read more

Beef Marco is amazing, definitely my go to on the menu. Only downside is Sunday is a limited menu.

Tavern is our go to dinner and lunch spot. Try the sangria! You won't be disappointed. I love their salads and caprese pizza for lunch. They just had a lemon pepper chicken special that was amazing! I was here last night with some of my coworkers to celebrate Galentine's Day and we had a great time. I tried the God Father, which is scotch and amaretto. I'm typically not a scotch person but I wanted to try something new and it definitely paid off. Everyone else at the table really enjoyed their drinks and we all got something different. Someone got a Zombie and said it was great. I decided on the Frutta Mare for dinner and it was pretty good. I wish it had a little more flavor to it but everything was fresh and the waitress was so nice and quick that it's hard for me to take any points off because it was just a tiny bit bland. Wonderful service, atmosphere, and decor, but the food is just okay. I came here with 2 girlfriends on a Thursday evening and the waitress was awesome and very accommodating. There were 2 groups celebrating birthdays with champagne and it is indeed a nice place to celebrate! I loved how flexible they were and willing to split the pasta in half, salad in half, and the bill in half without any hassle. It's rare to find a restaurant who makes splitting easier and I was grateful they didn't charge extra for us to split the pasta entree. The restaurant is in downtown Belleville near the fountain, a great location. I split the Linguini ala marco pasta with my friend because the waitress said it was a big enough portion for the two of us. Our house salad arrived first---and it was my favorite part of the meal! It had romaine and iceburg lettuce with provolone, bacon, and sweet house dressing. I don't usually rave about salads but this salad made me want to eat more salad. The linguini ala marco arrived with yummy toasted garlic bread.The shrimp was cooked just right and very scrumptious, but it was about the only flavorful thing in the pasta...the sauce was lacking in flavor despite having chunky garlic (which I love) and I found myself adding salt and pepper a couple of times. I would've loved a bit more cheese too. I did enjoy the mushroom and shrimp, just not so much the pasta sauce itself. My other friend ordered the Capellini bolagnese pasta and seemed to enjoy it as well. She had enough leftovers to bring it home in a box---they have big portions! read more

SO GOOD! I don't like tomatoes normally. If it's chunks and not cooked, I usually ask to hold them from my plate. We got the bruschetta, wings, and Sicilian pizza (no olives) and it was all AMAZING! I have ALWAYS loved this place and still do BUT the service we had yesterday was HORRIBLE.... I WISH I could have got the name of the bartender working because I would tell everyone to avoid her like the plague... We walk in, they JUST opened, I state that we are going to sit on the bar side and she then tells me to grab my own menus and napkins (in the rudest way she could).... We go and sit down and it's to hot so we decide to go to the restaurant side.... She then asks me where I'm going? I state that we are moving and she (very rudely) tells me "you need to make sure you check in with her" pointing to the hostess, I have never been spoken to the way this woman spoke to me, i then told her she needed to have a better attitude she wanted to go back and forth with me we went and sat down... i then had to listen to her run her mouth about what had just happened to the other employees.... We came here on Halloween night. It was packed! We order a regular sized Lobster pizza and it was great! My 6 year old nephew also enjoyed it! After consuming the pizza we should have ordered a larger one LOL! We also ordered the Calamari...it was so disgusting, it was burnt, old oil was used and just scrapping of crunchy batter. We sent it back and I believe the owner came out and he said their calamari shouldn't look like that. Well he knew that the server should know that too but brought it out anyways. I would be embarrassed if I had to serve that to someone. We ordered the mushrooms in replacement of the calamari. It was ok, pricy for what you get. Tavern on Main is a great location. Friendly service, especially for a busy Halloween night. Despite the calamari, I didn't care for the super dim lighting. Restaurant like this are scary. Can't see what's in your food, if the table is dirty, silverware, etc.... PS: they're baby friendly! read more

A friend and I met there for a few drinks, my buddy liked to smoke a cigar with his beer, so we sat outside on the very end. We were there long enough that we had another drink, about a few minutes later, the young lady manager comes out and rudely tells us we need to go around the building where their is no seating. We looked at her in dismay, like as if we were criminals. We stayed there and sure enough here comes a much more aggressive waitress, tells us the cigar smell is bothering people, even the ones on the inside. We stayed right where we were as the drinks and cigar was about done. But here she comes again, now she is threatening to call the police. I can only imagine the 911 operator getting a phone call about an old guy smoking a cigar outside in the smoking section. What a disgusting show of stupid. I was not smoking anything and TOM treated me like a criminal. I wrote them a email, expecting to get something positive back, but i never did. IDK why on that day they had it out for us. So I wont be back. I dont need that from a business that i paid $4 for a crappy beer. read more

I really love the atmosphere and food is always good here. However, the owner allows smoking against Illinois State law in the outdoor seating area which is disturbing to others seated there. Came in on St. Patrick's Day and it was packed! Thankfully we made reservations over the phone last minute (was supposed to be in St. Louis but had to change plans). Service was quick but food was mediocre; nothing special. I ordered the Linguini Ala Marco with added broccoli and the hubby ordered the Bourbon Chicken with mashed potatoes. I realize the pasta is sautéed in olive oil and butter but my dish had so much excess that it looked like soup. The hubby said his chicken was on the dry side. Favorite place in the B.L.V. Decor strikes chords of pub, sports bar, meeting-place, and casual restaurant all at the same time, depending on where you want to sit. Can't recommend the Caprese Pizza any higher other than " you'll regret not getting it". In addition, the menu is varied enough to satisfy every need from bar food all the way to nice dinner. VERY disappointed in my most recent experience. I used to come here all of the time and let's just say it is definitely not the same as it used to be. We had to ask where our side salads were and when we did they didn't even know what we ordered. Our entrees took an hour to get and when my steak finally came out it was well done, not medium rare. The server never once reassured us the food would be out shortly this whole time..she just kept refilling our drinks like everything was ok? We watched all of the tables that got sat after us get their food, checks, leave and not once did anyone say "I'm sorry about your wait! Stopped in for lunch on Friday the 22nd. ordered an appetizer, salad, and an entree. after about 30 minutes the bartender apologized and said the computer froze up and didn't send my order. He said the appetizer and salad would be out in just a bit. 20 minutes later I still didn't have anything to eat. No one offered as much as a discount for the inconvenience. This is an update to a previous 5 star review: We came in on a Sunday around 515 pm. Tucked out of the way with the fruit flies, our waitress took the time to introduce herself and ask for drinks. My daughter ordered tea to which she would need to add sugar. Waitress brought three flavors of artificial and said they do not have regular sugar, not even in packets.... Ok.... Then the Waiter for the table near us delivered plenty of regular sugar packets, then upon request brought us some. My Guinness arrived half foamed and apparently unprofessionally tapped. Waitress said nothing and didn't remerge so I went to the bar where the bartender didn't even let me say anything and just tried to refill the glass. I guess my input counted for nothing or whether I wanted something else mattered not all. Later I got a flat Pale ale and just didn't feel like "complaining" about something else so I didn't drink it. Calamari was great! Ordered a meat lovers pizza and a half pepperoni/supreme pizza. Supreme and meat lovers came out, but not half pepperoni. So, we ate while my daughter watched us.... Eventually the other half of the pizza arrived. Waitress then asked if we wanted boxes. Yes please I said, and was brought a Styrofoam container for 2 large pizzas (kids didn't care for the pizza, meat lovers seemed "off"). I asked for a pizza box, she brought me one big enough for a few pieces. Then finally it clicked and she brought 2 large boxes where I'm sure it was amusing watching us try to slide the pizzas into the boxes with the limited table space. Waitress seemed inpatient, and eager for us to leave. When asked how things were she didn't stop long enough for a reply. Definitely disappointed with Tavern this visit. read more

Had a mess of appetizers for dinner and I would still recommend the wings, shrimp and grits, and crab cakes...I do not, however , recommend the clams.. very small clams with undercooked Tasso ham.
