Fun cool environment, bartenders and servers are great! Sitting out side in the nice weather with a beer is a great time!

Some friends and I ate here last Saturday evening and couldn't have been more delighted. The restaurant was packed so we expected a long wait. We grabbed a glass of wine and sat in the bar area and we barely got comfy in our seats before we were whisked off to our table. Our server was friendly and attentive, he was definitely busy but made sure we were good on drinks and took our orders. We kept reckless eyeballing all the gorgeous dishes coming from the kitchen and anxiously awaited our dinner. Each one looked better than the next. We had a darling white haired man come by our table and thanked us for being patient, and our food would be on its way soon. We assured him that we weren't in any hurry and that we were enjoying just being out in the world again and enjoying conversation over the wine. A bit later our food came out and holy smokes we were all just gobsmacked. The presentation was awesome, and each of agreed that our choices were cooked perfectly and tasted magnificent. My filet melted in my mouth. Over the top perfection!! One of my friends had the salmon and she said it was orgasmic and my other pal had a seafood pasta that rivaled her grandmothers (shhhhhh) anyhow, needless to say, this new to the area gal will be returning again and again and again!! I'm sorry we were the last ones to leave... the wait staff was all ready to go home, we felt bad for not noticing sooner. I have to say they all hustled their hearts out. An epic A++++ and to whomever the older white haired gentleman was... what a gem!! He reminded me so much of my beloved Daddy & I just wanted to hug his neck. Whether it's for the delicious lunch buffet, a nice dinner with friends, or drinks after a show, Tavern on Main has not failed to impress me. I come here often as it is convenient from both where I live and work. The service is usually fast, friendly, and unobtrusive! They keep my tea full without me having to think about it, and they're quick to offer second or third alcoholic beverages without being pushy. The food is really nice quality too! I especially enjoy the corn chowder during the lunch buffet. Also, nice variety of pizzas! I've had many great experiences with this restaurant in the past, last night was not one of them. Our group of four was led to the back of the restaurant in a large room which looks to be overflow from T2 and Tavern. We were lead thru a huge spill that appeared to be soda or water. We were told to "watch our feet as we go by". We were against a wall between a hallway entrance and another table. The table behind us had to suck it in and scoot up just so we could pull a chair out and sit down. That is how tight the seating was. Our waitress seemed to forget about us since every time we ordered something it was another server or bartender who brought us our drinks and food. She appeared to give us our ticket and then there was another long wait for her to take the card. Very very very ditzy. Everyone enjoyed there meals and salads. I got potato soup instead of the salad and it was delicious. My only complaint about the food was the fact that the menu is advertising snap peas and they apparently have been of the menu and replaced with a different vegetable for months, and the fact that my fettuccini was sooo soupy that I was having trouble finding my (overcooked) noodles. read more

I went to Tavern on Main with my sister and her boyfriend tonight. We had drinks and an app at the bar and had a great time! Brendan and Rebecca were both friendly and took great care of us. We had the spinach flatbread with a side of ranch which was delicious. The main joy of my evening though was the raspberry mojito mocktail that Rebecca made for me. Gave this place a shot since it is local and was pretty packed. Service was pretty good and the steaks were delicious. Plating was kinda sad on my Surf and Turf, and I was a little disappointed there were only two scallops (cmon at least put three for aesthetic), but what was there was very good. One of my local favorites. They have a nice patio out front and their food is always good. This time we ordered calamari as an appetizer which is always good. I like how they have the calamari rings and the whole squid pieces. I also had their house salad and BBQ shrimp. Their BBQ shrimp is one of my favorites. It's spicy, but the cheesy grits balance it all out. I always get a glass of their house wine. For $5 it's a good deal and they are generous servings. On other occasions, I've gotten their lobster BLT pizza which is also wonderful! I didn't give 5 starts only because of service. The waiters are attentive, but our food didn't come out together and there was so confusion with the entrees. It ended up being easily fixed, so not a big deal. Will be back soon. read more

I'd like to give new local joints the benefit of a doubt when experiencing a busy holiday rush or weather implemented service but this day had neither. The wife and I decided to give this place a try since we like the presence of the "hipster" look of downtown Belleville and I love to support local venues. Sadly, this wasn't the best trip for our couples getaway night. I'd like to compare the $10 calamari to chewing on old shoelaces with tasteless batter but of course, I had no idea what that actually tastes like or if it would actually taste better?? Seriously, it had little flavor other than fried breading with the spicy sauce, it was edible. (1 out of 5.) I ordered the Surf and Turf with shrimp but instead got scallops...here's my other gripe, I get a small round piece of steak but it was cooked well, I'll give them that and 2 pieces of scallops for $26?? I have been to New York Times Square and ate better for less. I understand the essence of having a fancy feast but overcharging for small portions and tasteless food isn't fancy, it's beyond frugel and a major letdown to your customers. Huh. Not a bad place at all. A couple of my girlfriends and I were to meet up for lunch, and we were limited in where we could go as some of us had to get back to work within the hour. So it had to be in downtown Belleville, and Mexican was out of the question. So someone suggested Tavern on Main, followed with the words, "lunch buffet", which pretty much sealed the deal right there. I'm so glad spring has arrived in the Midwest as we got to sit outside, and it was a gorgeous day. And the place was packed. I like how if you didn't get to grab a table outside, the establishment leaves its doors and windows open so it's kind of a free-flowing airy setup. It is pretty dark indoors though. Lunch buffet is $9 and consists of soups, salads, pastas, pizza, and desserts. I love how there is also salt, pepper, and parmesan shakers on the edge of the buffet that you can take back to your table. The soups were okay (I tried the corn chowder and the tomato bisque)...they were nothing to write home about, but the pizza really hit the spot. They are thin crust, and they put out a medley of offerings from veggie to sausage to cheese to pepperoni. I also really really liked the bowtie pasta salad; it was delicious. The toasted ravioli was a bit hard, but the sauces, especially the meat one, were fantastic. The salads were fresh, and dessert included cookies and brownies. We went on Friday, and as it is Lent season, they had fish tenders, which were pretty good. I think they may have chicken wings or something else when it's not Lent. They also have lunch specials, and Fridays just happen to be lobster ravioli, which I can't wait to come back and try. I only knew about that because I was perusing the website before heading out; the waitstaff didn't bother letting us know about that. Otherwise, the waitstaff was pretty efficient in picking up our empty plates and so-so on the refilling of drinks. My friends got their sweet teas refilled pretty regularly, but my water stayed low for quite awhile. I'm going to have to come back for dinner too...the menu looks delicious...and they do have a pretty good selection of drinks. Better selection of drinks than most of the Belleville area. I love the upscaledness of this pub. Belleville definitely needs this. They have amazing little mushroom strips. I was the only one to eat them (mushroom hating friends), but I didn't mind. They were really good and had horseradish sauce to go with them. Perfect little combo. Tequila lime shrimp is pretty good. Creamy lime sauce really hits the spot. I've heard the lobster BLT was the best pizza there. I can't wait to try it. Really interesting menu which I love. Came on a weekday lunch with the wife. She had the mushroom Swiss burger and I had the lunch buffet. The waitress offered to replace the pizza on the buffet with a sandwich if I did not like the pizza. The burger was great with large mushrooms. Large portions as well. The buffet was cold salads, including pasta salads, toasted ravioli, several soups, and pizza. I am bit of a soup expert and I quite enjoyed all 4 soups that I tried. The rib eye soup was good but it was fatty. You expect that from rib eye. The bisque was the best. It is a casual place that I would not hesitate to being a business lunch. I met a friend for dinner and drinks last night. First off, we had Erica as our server and she was on top of it..... She made great suggestions for our dinner and told us about the better deal of buying a bottle of wine versus by the glass. She would appear when we needed her and disappear when she was not needed. I ordered a chicken capaella, it had cheese and bacon. I wish I could give a better description but it was so dark that I had a hard time seeing my plate to cut it up. I got the rice, which was steamed to perfection. You could also get a potato. I had the house salad, it had bacon need I say anymore.... Downtown Belleville just keeps getting better and better. The Tavern on Main is new to me, but I don't come here often. I was visiting a couple of friends, starting at the Wine Tap, then moving down here to watch the Cardinals. They have seating on the sidewalk wth a big screen TV outside. It would have been a lot of fun if the Cardinals had won. We shared a large pizza, half deluxe and half Sicilian. Both sides of this pizza were excellent. If you're old enough to remember Godfathers, that's what it reminded me of. Lots of mozzarella cheese on top and loaded with toppings. I liked that the green peppers and onions are a little more done with the cheese on top. They had a couple of issues with the first two beers we ordered - for one the keg was just out and couldn't be replaced. For the other, they didn't have any cold. Other than that the service was very good (Carl) and we had a great time. If I was a little closer, we'd definitely come back. Give it a try. read more

I came here from out of town, I expected a decent place with good music and a bar/ tavern atmosphere. The food was okay. I ordered and was told about -0 minutes later that they had ran out of that item, tried to order again and they were out of that item. Nothing else on the menu looked appealing, but I ordered a burger because it's hard to mess up. The burger was bland. The patty was small, with only onion lettuce tom and pickles as a filler. My wife and I had a double date the other night and really wanted try tavern. Well it was a good choice. The wait staff was great. Always made sure we had drinks and everything we needed. The menus where just printed off from the computer and stapled together but to me that was the only thing bad about the place. There were to many things that sounded great on the menu which is a good thing I think. It is a bit pricey but for the food it's not that bad. One of my favorite places in belleville to eat at. The food is always great and they really do it right. Up scale cuisine with a great bar and grill feel. If your ever in the area, it's a must. tavern on main is at a great location in downtown Belleville, with an excellent patio out front. I've been her several times and at first didn't really like the food, but would tolerate it because of the location and outdoor eating. I'm a vegetarian so they don't have many options for me. At this point I would give them maybe 3 stars. Mainly based on their location. But, then I went during lunch while they were having their lunch buffet. I was nervous being a vegetarian and it didn't look like they had too much for me. Thankfully I asked the server and they happily brought out a vegetarian pizza and salad for me. And the soups were delicious. I was very happy with their accommodations and service. Our server was excellent and our glasses were always filled. It was so good I went the next day! At the lunch buffet... I had a vegetarian Italian salad, which is so good. Butternut squash soup, which was basically more of a cheddar soup, but nonetheless delicious and had great flavor. I also has the corn chowder which was also good. There pizza is very good, thin crust which is exactly what I like. There pasta was just ok. Just regular pre made bow tie pasta with a variety of sauces. Don't forget that they have brownies too, which are not the best, but after a buffet you're probably too full for dessert anyway. All for 9 bucks, not bad! I will give this place 5 stars when they add more quality vegetarian dishes to the menu. read more

We went there 2 weeks ago on a Saturday night with family. No wait for a party of 8 in the back room, wow! To start, the servers are sweet and friendly. The bread is amazing, it is different every time, what a fun surprise. The pretzel twist rolls were delicious, can't even describe their perfection! We shared the pizza, lasagna, and side salad. All were perfectly prepared, large portions for the money, and delectable. Dessert was yummy but nothing to yelp about. I live on The Hill in stl and I have to say this place is a worthy rival if you aren't across the river. This place is my new go-to when visiting friends in Belleville. This was my first experience with a "limited" opening. The first three times I tried eating here, I failed. For a long while, they only had an operational bar with no food. Apparently, this is what's called a limited opening. I guess it's easier to gradually introduce to facets of a restaurant rather than make sure everything is ready to go for a grand opening. Meh. I'm going to go ahead and assume this sort of thing would only go down in Bellevegas. The night I FINALLY got to try their food, I was quite disappointed. My salad was not all I had hoped for. With dark greens, goat cheese and nuts, you really can't go wrong -- but I'm fairly certain they left the flavor sitting on the counter in the back. It was totally flat. Nothing popped. Even the dressing was ho hum. Since trying their food, I have only gone back for a drink or two. Their let down of my favorite kind of salad still saddens me and I cannot bring myself to try anything else save a beer or two. I have been here before without promblems. Today was different, we immediately had issues walking in. I asked for Sammy, the best waitress they have. The hostess said she would ask Sammy if she was taking any more tables, since she had a large table. Hostess did not ask and sat my party of 3 in someone else's table. The waitress was so,so. The service was slow. We had 2 buffets, and a turkey club sandwich. The buffet was not refilled or kept on top of. I had to ask the waitress if they were going to refill it. This time was the worst experiencet so far.We are regulars here and most of the time the food is decent.yesterday went there for dinner with 3 others. We had to wait more than 40 mins to get our salad and soup which was weird that it wasn't even busy and when the soup finally came it was in a cup which i ordered bowl.sigh...didn't wanna wait anymore so i just took the cup size.and the servers kept kicking on the kitchen door for the whole time we were there so of course it was very noisy and at the end it was just annoying.ordered seafood pasta with the 3 bad clams out of 5.scallops were over cooked and the noodle was over coocked also.maaaaaan..... read more

It's wonderful to have another good restaurant option in Belleville. Sometimes I just don't feel like driving to St. Louis or Edwardsville! The Tequila Lime Shrimp are a bit bland and I'd advise a different app choice. BUT the wasabi-encrusted salmon was amazing! One of the best pieces of salmon that I've had outside of Great Britain. I ordered the Lobster BLT pizza to go; it was good, nothing great. It was really oily, not sure if it was the aioli (seasoned mayonnaise--which was way too much) or if they added something else that was oily. I usually get the Alsatian from The Wine Tap (too die for!!) but I thought I would switch it up.
