I've been here twice in three days. Great service and excellent food, had the chicken and waffles and it was amazing and then had the buffalo chicken sandwich and loved it. The chicken had a breading on it and was juicy. And my sandwich also had a great bun. I'm sure I'll have many more meals from this place. Glad we are neighbors! read more

I'm pretty unimpressed with this restaurant. Decor is nice, but restaurant is small and narrow like a long hallway. Food is terrible. I ordered the flatbread which literally was a piece of bread with 2 pieces of cheese and a line of buffalo sauce across it. I could have made a better meal at home and can't believe they charge $12 for that. The only saving grace is the bar, which is pretty nice and staff are friendly. I've only ordered beer on tap or wine, so I can't comment on the mixed drinks. We contacted Tavern on Main two weeks before our wedding, when our caterer let us know they could not get a liquor license for our venue. Miranda and John got back to us immediately and put our worries at ease. Within that time, Miranda was able to put together 3 special cocktails along with getting the rest of the bar package together. First of all I don't know if the first 9 reviewers actually came here, but if you want to drink alcohol this is not your place. I was eager to try an upscale Crown Point drinking establishment, but the only thing upscale was the wait time to get a drink. The first night, the male bartender was lacking in social skills and ignored basically all 10 people at the bar. On top of that, the glasses that he served drinks in were dirty. My second time was new year's eve and was just as pitiful. I brought in some friends from out of town and we took a table near the windows where a waitress never came. Finally we went to the bar and waited nearly 15 minutes to place our complicated order of 4 beers. The only time any wait staff approached us was to hand out complentry champaign. Both times I have been here there has been adequate staff, but none of them seem to know how provide service for less than 30 people. I called 30 minutes ahead of time to make sure my food was ready for pick up before the start of a 2nd job. I arrived to find my food was not ready. I would understand if they were slammed, but they were not. My $10 burger took an additional 10 minute wait, and then my gift card did not work, so the manager after a few minutes of calling/typing got it to work! When I left and excited to eat my food on break at my 2nd job there was no utensils, no ketchup, mustard, napkins, and there was 4 brussel sprouts cut in half as my side for my $10 burger! The staff was nice, decor nice, especially for CP, but I won't be back. Overpriced, carry out was lack luster service, and not much food for your $...... This isn't Chicago, so if you want to charge Chicago $, at least give me some decent size portions, and PLEASE give me napkins! read more

The good-great looking interior, good variety in their beer selection, and the twin scotch eggs and side of roasted Brussels sprouts were excellent. 2 entrees, an appetizer and 4 beers for $64 was reasonable I thought for a restaurant on the square. The bad-the street tacos didn't have enough filling to warrant 2 shells/taco. If you have 2 shells, you have a lot of filling. We were there when the sun was positioned so it was shining right in the windows, for about an hour! Get some blinds or shades as it was uncomfortable for the staff, patrons, and even owner. After waiting 15 minutes to be Greeted, Mike who clearly didn't want to be there, drew the short Straw and waited on us.. Our burgers were good. I ordered a side salad instead of Fries and was upcharged $4.00 The salad was a small plate of cucumbers and tomatoes. I thought salad contained lettuce. After I paid the bill and gave Mike a 20% tip, I asked about the upcharge and was Upbruptly told that only fries And tots come with the burger. The sandwich was very good however, I couldn't tell the difference between it and a regular hamburger and it was 4 dollars more so next time I would just get the regular one. I ordered the lobster dip and the short rib grilled cheese with the Black and Tan onion rings. The dip was so buttery, rich and full of lobster. It was so good it took awhile to try the sandwich. The sandwich was AMAZING. I actually did a Pinterest search for something similar that I could make when I get back to Des Moines. Absolutely delicious. I typically stay in Merrillville so the rest of my comparisons will be to places in the Merrillville area. Food was ok. I got the grilled cheese with short rib and it was a bit different than what I was expecting - not in a bad way. Open faced sandwich; meat was ok, not much cheese. The key takeaways were the beer and the service! Excellent local beer selection. This review is during the winter months so I don't know if the selection is the same year-round, but lots of dark beers. Finally, the service was great. Although many times in the square; first time in the tavern. Nice room with a nice hi-top at the sidewalk window allowed us to enjoy the activity of the whole room. Server had too many tables to get the five stars. Not her fault and she did an ok job. Shared three appetizers and all were great. Seared ahi/mango/avocado plate was very good. We have been here several times. The food has always been good. The service is either really good or really slow, no in between. The Scotch eggs, bangbang shrimp and poutine are all great. They make some awesome mules at the bar as well. I wish the place was bigger so you aren't sitting on top of the other customers but if you time it right, you might be able to grab a hightop table. read more
