Utterly underwhelming!!!! Went out of our way to try Tavern on Main because I had "heard good things", the options on the menu looked good and it has a 4star rating. I have less and less confidence in region restaurant Yelp ratings.‍ The rye old fashioned was decent... I can make a better cocktail at home. The pork belly starter was the best thing we ate but still under seasoned. I had the chicken sandwich "special". Nothing special about it, over cooked, under seasoned fried chicken that was either pounded way too thin or were frozen cutlets. The love of my life went with the Monte Cristo.... Word-for-word "this is the worst Monte Cristo I have ever had, the French toast batter tastes like eggs and milk... no seasoning, no vanilla, no cinnamon, no salt... eggs and milk!" She offered me a bite, I respectfully declined. The sandwiches just looked sad... The tater tots had a nice crispness to them... nothing you can't accomplish at home in the air fryer with the bonus of choosing from a plethora of seasonings to sprinkle on them to kick them up a notch. Not here... didn't even sprinkle salt on them. My girlfriend and I walked away wondering why we just dropped decent money on this meal thinking we should have gone to Taco Bell instead and asking ourselves what spices they have in the kitchen and if they no what salt is. I will not be back other than to sit on the patio and drink cheep beer if I'm on the square... maybe. Always a very impressive menu and beer selection. One critic is that they sometimes try to get too creative and try to fit too many flavors together into a meal which often sounds better than it is. That being said the staples on their menu are great and my wife and I frequent here often. 21+ so no kids, non smoking, great food, great beer. It's been a week and I'm still thinking about the food and planning my next trip to Tavern on Main! My husband and I got a gift card so didn't know what to expect. We were transported to an urban feel restaurant, something you'd find in a Chicago neighborhood. I got the crap, avocado grilled cheese, my husband got the signature bear burger and we split the lobster dip. My husband tried several craft beers and I got cider. Everything was so delicious, the service was awesome and the ambiance felt like I was back home in Chicago. I have been to this restaurant meany times I also understand that food service everywhere is hurting But Not only was my order wrong my service was horrible I waited 40 minutes for a glass of water I waited even longer for my food we arived there around noon and we didn't leave that facility to almost quarter to 3 ...this was to be a lunch !!! Maybe I'm old-fashioned and I have a different work ethics but the struggle is real and I think people should take it more serious and be more attentive 40 minutes for a glass of water is excessive So I give this establishment #1 Star and they need to find a different cook the food was terrible WHAT HAPPEN TO THIS PLACE . ???? read more

Having been twice over the course of a week, I can declare this probably one of the best bars in America. Food is phenomenal, atmosphere is tight and familial, staff is on their game. A wonderful beer selection with amazing food that can't be topped and any tavern in the region

Ordered their shrimp and grits today. The grits were full of uncooked grits. It did not have any sauce and no mushrooms as suggested in the menu. The Caribbean wings were over done and the sauce just slimy and completely void of flavor. When we asked the bar tender to send over the waiter he actually made a childish face at the back of my husband requesting. Seriously immature and I don't know what happened to the cook! Not likely to return to find out. It's a shame that this place is taking up such good real estate for such sub par service and food. On a saving grace, the waiter was great. He tried to recover but there wasn't much hope. Well done Bar Keep! Also kudos to the manager who never attempted to resolve by stopping by the table. Overall a sad experience. read more

We are from out of state, so perhaps there is something I don't know about local ordinances, but we were very quickly pushed out of here at lunchtime on a Tuesday because we had our baby with us. Really bad service, long wait for food, salad incomplete - missing avocado. Server never to be found - had to walk back twice to get him. Wasn't even that busy, he was in the back kibitzing with other waitresses. Had to even walk back to get my bill and credit card which was just laying on the bar unattended. I'm updating my review based on service and drink quality. Stopped in today (Father's day) for a drink and lunch. I ordered a margarita and a chopped salad with chicken. The young woman bartender had really no discernible personality. Little to no eye contact, completely uninterested in providing any level of service. She started off nice by asking how my day was, but walked away before i answered. Yes, one of those. Asks a question and really doesn't care to hear the answer. She served my margarita in a chipped glass. I tried for 10 minuets to get her attention, but she was very talented at never making eye contact or coming close enough to say anything. I would have understood had the place been busy, but only 2 other customers at the bar and two tables in the restaurant. So what was she so busy doing...you guessed it, texting!!! The glass was not dangerously chipped, so i took a drink. But it was so sweet i couldn't take more than a sip. Waaaayyyyy too much mix. The sugar hit alone almost took my breath away. I couldn't drink it She finally stopped by to deliver my salad...but by then i had no interest in eating it. I just wanted to get out of that place. I asked for my check, gave her a whopping $0 tip and left without touching the salad. So no idea on quality. Im sure it was good. She didn't make it So you may ask, why didn't you just say something when the server brought my salad? Tell her the service was poor? Unfortunately, thats awkward and often not taken well. Young servers can become obstinate and take it very bad. I've had servers get defensive and argue. i simply just never return. Maybe she was having a bad day or something happened that distracted her from caring about the people willing to pay extra for service in a tip. read more

Try the cauliflower! You won't be disappointed. The short rib poutine was really good, as was the Mac n cheese. I also the chopped salad, which you can never go wrong with. The sprouts with a twist are yummy- but they can't even touch the cauliflower, it's that good yo! The deconstructed ahi tuna nachos were good, as was the street tacos. And I have tried most of the mules- so good! But if they have the mai tia riff I suggest you get it! read more

Found this place on Yelp, thought it looked really cute and the menu looked very interesting. Very promising to find the place busy around 1 pm, after the height of the lunch rush. I think there were only two people working the front of the house, and they seemed too busy to care, smile, or take a moment to apologize when spilling soda on one of the people in our group. We waited about an hour for our food, and it was embarrassing once it arrived. The burgers, which on the menu sound mouth watering, were cold and very obviously preformed like the kind you buy in a sleeve from Costco. By this time, there was another person working the front of the house and she did care enough to ask how things were. We sent the one burger back that was supposed to be medium rare but was well done, and she had the back prepare a new burger. They get two stars for her efforts alone. The salads were ok, but overpriced for the size...and the chopped salad was supposed to have pork belly, but there was none to be found. The balsamic vinaigrette was very tasty. It was just super disappointing...if your lunch crowd is bumping, staff appropriately. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day, but I don't know that I would ever try again. On the plus side, the Guinness was tasty, well poured, and $3. Attentive servers and a good, hard look at the menu and this place could be better. read more

Best place on the square for drinks and food hands down! The service is always spot on no matter how busy it gets. The atmosphere keeps a lot of what makes the vintage feel of downtown Crown Point alive but still fresh and classy. Great for drink with friends or a dinner date. It's the food that really sets it apart from all of the places in CP, especially downtown. There's a lot of places with decent food, and even pretty good food. But this place is the real deal. It's got quality basics down while rotating new interesting dishes for the more adventurous. It's consistently delicious and is a top contender in the Region nestled in a historic building and area. read more
