When I received my food, there was a hair in my salad. When they brought my receipt, there was nothing taken off my bill. The manager did not come to the table and when I asked for something to be taken off the bill, they only took all three dollars. My friend had the Athenian shoreline which was a pretty blue color and so pretty, lovely light drink. I had the Esprouzo, their take on the espresso martini! But with ouzo. Which was good and different and I'm glad I tried it, but honestly prefer the standard espresso martini. They had some great brunch drinks though. As well as wine and beer . We got the sun dried tomato hummus with pita. Delish, so good and freshly made. Served with cucumber chips for the carb conscious. Great app. I got the baked eggs and feta, their version of shakshuka. Seriously 4 poached eggs in this dish, loved the sauce, and more pita! Still light but delicious and fresh. My friend had the gyro hash, nicely sliced gyro, and potatoes and hollandaise on top and your fried eggs topping all that. She loved all the flavor combinations and the gyro was nice and tender. The food was so different from standard brunch food, I loved the variety on the menu. Rounded it out with a slice of their fabulous limoncello cake , again so lemony and light! Perfect sweet end. Oh and a glass of bubbly! I loved this place, now it can get hot up there if your not in the shade but there are fans, plus they do not take reservations for the rooftop. Super fast service. I placed an order online for pickup, and my order was ready within ten minutes. I stepped inside briefly to grab my takeout, and the restaurant looked very cozy and quaint. Great atmosphere. Really love the top outside patio! The kitchen was a bit slow but the staff was extremely nice so it wasn't that big of a down side. The appetizers were yummy. We had the hummus,feta, taziki with peta bread and cucumber, octopus and 2 saganaki (it was so good we had to have a second) The salmon was a bit disappointing super thin and not my fav but the sauces with it was good. But everyone else I was with enjoyed their dish. Wish there were more vegetarian options for the entree beside just one. My husband who a vegetarian ordered an app as his main course since he didn't care for the entree options. The baklava cheesecake is amazing!!! Omg so yummyyy I highly recommend getting that!! We had a lovely afternoon on the patio of Taverna. It was a beautiful day and our wait, Brielle, saw to our every need. The spanokopita is the best I've had anywhere in NC. Light and fluffy. The zucchini cakes were fabulous, and so was the Greek salad. Try it for the aged feta. Fabulous! Brielle, was so fun to chat with, and made our afternoon relaxing and interesting. I've been to Taverna Agora when they used to be located in North Raleigh, they moved to downtown and the rooftop dining area is quite nice. We came for lunch and started with a few cocktails. The Santorini is made with tanqueray and elderflower liqueur, mint syrup and lime. Very refreshing drink! Hubby got the Greek sangria and enjoyed it. I ordered two starters, the sun dried hummus which is served with pita and slices of cucumber. Was very good and surprisingly filling. The spanakopita was definitely the star of the show for me. Excellent! Very delicate and creamy goodness! I could've eaten more! Hubby enjoyed his gyro and we had great service in a great atmosphere. read more

Have heard so much of this place so decided to go for brunch to celebrate a special occasion. The downstairs dining room was nice but frankly not too exciting. We were escorted up the stairs and all of a sudden it felt like we were transported to the Greek islands. The rooftop dining area was bright and spacious with garden-like surroundings and grapevines across the beams. It was very busy but it never felt crowded. It was a bit chilly outside but the ceiling heaters made it feel like we were dining out in the spring. Food was very good. Highly recommend the grilled octopus and the flambéed saganaki. Brunch dishes were ok. The baked eggs were good but the sauce had an overwhelming taste of celery to me. The Greek omelet was ok. I thought it lacked flavor. It needed more of the key ingredients to give it a bigger punch. The gyro meat on the other hand was excellent & one of the better ones I've had. Service- While our server was nice, he wasn't very attentive. All of our Mezze came out but we had to ask for plates. All in all, we had a good experience. Excellent Greek food in a central location. Able to accommodate larger tables, evidenced by several groups of 10-14 people seated around us. We were staying at the Holiday Inn and went for a walk to find dinner. This restaurant was literally right out the front doors of the hotel. We thought we might be underdressed in shorts and t shirts but the hostess said we were fine. We were seated immediately at about 7:30 on a Friday night. The server brought bread and dipping oil with our water and offered a bread refill while we waited got our meal. We ordered the mussels appetizer to share. The mussels were in a tomato sauce that seemed a little watery, but the mussels themselves were great. I ordered the stuffed trout special, which came with lemon rice and green beans. My son had the ribeye, served with potato spears and green beans. Service was very good until we were finished and waiting to pay our bill. The two of us had reservations for dinner on a weeknight at Taverna Agora. We had a bit of a wait to get a rooftop seat, but it was a great ambiance up there so I'm glad we'd waited. For drinks, I got the Greek Sangria and he got the Greek Mule. My sangria was so tasty, I had to stop myself from finishing it all before the food arrived! The food was delicious! We shared a trio of three spreads - spicy feta, tzatziki, and an eggplant one. I'd recommend all of them, but the spicy feta was my favorite. We also got the Grilled Octopus appetizer, which was served with baked gigante beans. The octopus was charred to perfection! I just wish there had been more. We also got the Braised Lamb Shank in a tomato red wine sauce, served with potatoes and vegetables on the side. Mmm this was so tender and the sauce was fantastic! We had a really tough time deciding on dessert. Eventually we decided to get two - the Baklava and the Rag Pie. The Baklava was good and all, but the Rag Pie blew me away. I'd never had anything like it before. It was sweet, syrupy, and the phyllo dough just soaked in beautifully with the custard. It was my favorite dish of the night! read more

I immediately saw a sign about being short-staffed. I appreciate the headset. Taverna Agora has nice Greek decor, friendly and welcoming staff. This is something different if you enjoy Greek food. This place was highly recommended by a coworker, and he raved about this place. The Greek salad was delicious. The Lam burger was ok. I was disappointed in my experience. The food was tasteless and I could barely taste any seasoning on the meatball appetizer. Maybe this is how Greek food should taste but I plan to try it again and I will change this review if it's better the next time. The bathrooms were extremely filthy and didn't appear to be cleaned periodically throughout the day. I would suggest checking the bathroom more often. Although they say they were short staffed there were plenty of staff that I saw walking around. read more

Over the years, business has taken me to Athens scores of times, and I long ago fell in love with both Greek wine and the Greek kitchen. My partner and I search out Greek restaurants all over the US, and heartily recommend this one to all who share our love of Greek cuisine. The setting is warm and comfortable; when we visited, there were a couple of large groups, couples on obvious dates, and individual diners. And this was at the height of the dinner hour. I should add that we parked on the street, which in the evening was free of charge. Taverna Agora has an extensive menu of traditional appetizers, so we decided to explore this element of the menu and forego a main course. We started with an excellent tzatziki, and then moved on to a superb saganaki flambeed at the table. Dolmades and keftedes came next. We strongly, strongly recommend the keftedes, although the dolmades were quite tasty. Spanakopita made for a light finish, enabling us to wolf down a traditional and delicious baklava at the end. We shared a bottle of retsina. I would have preferred something much more resinated (Kourtaki is my top choice), but my partner thought it was just right. With tip, the meal totaled out at a little over $100, but about $40 of this was for the wine. We thought that, in terms of both quality and quantity, our dinner was quite reasonable priced. read more
