I used to love Dina. I've been going to her since 2010. Back then, you'd be able to walk in and get your taxes done. As the years have gone by, she's grown through word of mouth and for the last few years you had to wait outside for hours just to get in and then sit for hours more on top of that waiting for your number to be called. It's not unusual to get there at 6am and leave at 3pm. About a year or two ago she implemented a new rule that you had to be one of the first 25 in line. So if you get all the way there at 6am and there are already 25 people in line, you're SOL. This happened to me once. At this point, I should've stopped coming. But she always got me an amazing return so I continued. Last year, she told me she was going to submit my return. For a month and a half I didn't receive anything so I checked with the IRS and they had NO RECORD OF MY TAXES. I text Dina asking about it. No response. 2 weeks later I check in again to which she simply responds, "Will be back on Monday." Monday comes and goes. No response. I check in again. I'm pregnant and due any day and at this point just want some kind of resolution. Plus I'd received another letter from the IRS. Dina doesn't respond. 4 days later I check in AGAIN. She doesn't respond for days. At this point I'm in the hospital because I had my baby, which I warned her was about to happen. In September, I had a question about how to change my taxes since I had a baby to which she answers immediately and cordially. I was considering going to someone new but after she was nice, decided to let it go. WRONG DECISION. It's tax time again and I called to see if I could make an appointment instead of wait in line because there's no way I can bring my 7 month old all the way downtown at 5am and wait for hours. I was told they have appointments now. Yay! So I confirm for March 21st. I should've known things would go wrong when I asked if it was for 10:30 and the response was "thank you." Um, ok. The next day I heard there was going to be a bad snowstorm so I text asking if they'd be open. No response. I try calling. No answer. The day of my appointment I text again. No response. I call and call. No one answers. I didn't want to risk losing out on my appointment so I rush to drop my daughter at daycare and go all the way down in the storm. I get to the office and it's dark with a closed sign on the door. I text that I'm there. I explain I took the day off of work and need to know if she is coming. No one ever answers me. Dina has been my tax preparer for many, many years. Not any more. Stay away...major problems with the IRS!...

Outside of having my apartment cleaned I take pride in getting things done for myself, especially my own taxes. Taxes are a pain in the ass, but I always did them on turbotax because it was cheap/free. This year after moving and switching jobs I didn't want to miss anything so I took a recommendation to visit Dina. Long story short, I was 100% sure by my own calculations I would end up owing an additional $500-$1000 this year all things considered (gotta love paying City/state/fed in NYC!). I even offered a bet with my friend: If I got money back, they would get my tax return, if I owed money, they would pay them! Thank god they didn't take that bet. When she told me I was going to get over $3000 back this year I wanted to rock my face off, I've been lucky to get a couple hundred doing them myself. I would have split the return in half if she asked but I was more than happy to pay $150 for a couple W2's...ect She's super quick once you're in but try and get there around 9am otherwise you are in for a wait. read more

NO.NO.NO.NO. Do NOT get your taxes done here!!! I am giving you a fair warning!!!! A friend of mine referred me to Dina because she had been doing her taxes for a while.So I decided to try her out. The first time I went to her things were fine. Then,I went to her a second time informing her that I had been attending a school that had yet to be "accredited". Which basically means that I could not write my school expenses off on my taxes. Dina repeatedly insisted I COULD. Being that she is supposedly educated in such things... I was assuming a bit more than ME, I listened to her and wrote off my school expenses. I would then receive a refund back of $2300.00. Boy was I WRONG. I received the refund check and used it to pay other bills. Soon after,the IRS contacts me and tells me to show documentation of where I went to school, and all expenses. I had saved ALL receipts and documentation so I wasn't worried about that. I was a bit nervous about knowing the school wasn't accredited, but I trusted what Dina said because she SHOULD know more than me about this. The IRS then sent me a letter saying I had to pay back the $2300 because they found my school to be........ UNCREDITED. SURPRISE. SURPRISE. Because of DINA,I now have DEBT. How can someone doing your taxes make such a major mistake. I told her repeatedly that my school was not accredited. And now I HAVE to PAY because of her misinformation. Taxes have never been so simple! Dina is wonderful and super friendly! This was a tip I put in when I did my taxes on January 29. ^ And I completely revoke it!! My tax return had not been deposited into my bank account and I was curious as to know why. So I naturally called. The assistant told me to call the IRS. When they couldn't give me any information I called back and she took my number. I never received a phone call back. So I tried again. The office was closed but the voicemail said to text. Great! I texted her my information crossing my fingers that I'd get a call back. I did. But unfortunately I was in the shower. So my friend answered the phone for me knowing I was anticipating the call. Well, from what my friend told me, whoever was on the other line, be it Dina or her assistant, was completely rude. Saying who are you? What do you want? (Um I'm sorry, aren't you a business woman???) Later asking her if she was a lesbian! IM SORRY, WHAT?!?! What a completely unprofessional thing to say! How is someone a lesbian OVER THE PHONE??? My friend finally was fed up, cursed, and hung up. I tried texting her back afterwards urging to give me a callback to explain. Surprisingly I stayed very calm. Still have not heard from her and oh! Quick summary of my experience here today - GHETTO! Dina is good but that's if you are lucky enough to even see or reach her. The customer service here is definitely the rudest I've endured in a long time which is hard to admit since the first time Dina did my taxes in 2013 she was great. This year, not so great. The "receptionist" (if you can even call her that) welcomed me by shoving a number in my face and yelling at all the clients as if she was herding cattle to take a number and have a seat. She proceeded to keep the front door locked so that no one could enter or exit the office without her giving them the rite of passage. Dina has a drop-off service for former clients so you do not need to wait on the line, and when I tried to explain to the "receptionist" I was a former client and if she could confirm my documents were received (which I sent over 2 days prior) that would be helpful. Nevertheless this lady was extremely unprofessional and proceeded to state, "I don't know what to tell you." She didn't know what to tell me in regard to my personal and financial info being received on their end, which ultimately left me feeling very uneasy. I tried to explain this to her and at this point she took it upon herself to ignore me as if poof, I just disappeared. At that point, I kindly asked her to unlock the front door and let me out of there. Bottom line - No matter how good your service is, you should never treat your clients with disrespect. If you want to experience the epitome of the New York unprofessional experience, this is the place. I have used these services for years now and have recommended her services to several people. Never again! I have never been so embarrassed by receiving negative comments from personal relationships because of not only her lack of professionalism but discrepancies that occurred in filing. Worst of all, my husband was my last recommendation. This year it was more difficult to file and obtain a tax refund because of the utilization of her services. On a positive note, she really is a great lady, and I think her intentions are good. It is just unfortunate that intention is not enough to run a professional business. The only place I'll ever get my taxes done, but also the most difficult place to do so. I tried to come by a few times last season but the door was locked both times and I came around 10am! We were told that Dina had been booked up thorougly so I had to go elsewhere which was an absolute bust. Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be able to get in this year! Listen. I was just there, so let me break it down for you - don't let these bad comments deter you, seriously. (Also keep in mind that my insight comes from a busy busy day in the bum-rush before 4-15) Number one. Dina. She's REALLY NICE and friendly. These people sayin she yells at the assistant ....WELL. She's been sitting in a corner typing and doing math for HOURS ON END, hasn't gotten up to pee or eat, you think you'd be peaches and cream? Not to mention, IDk where you're from, but for those of us from here, or jersey, or LI - THIS IS HOW WE TALK TO PEOPLE! It's "HEy - you, where's The thing!? Get it ova here !!!" not.... "Oh bless your heart now, can yall please fetch me a pen ?" We're at a TAX place in nyc... not some southern bed 'n breakfast, so I'd say she's more than sweet - she was so super nice to me! OK, now about the wait and the office. Again, this is a no frills, folding-chair waiting room kinda place. So I guess leave your pearls at home? I mean, you're paying for the SERVICE - her experience, and clearly KILLER knowledge. (which I'll explain in a sec) Do not come here if you have somewhere to be and you can't hang around for several hours! Yes - HOURS. I was about # 11, out of about 14. (I had gotten there at 8:40, which was not early enough apparently, but oh well) BUT LET ME TELL U, IT's WORTH IT! You just gotta plan it out, I wouldn't come at 9, when you have to be somewhere at 1 and there's 10 people in front of you. From open, to about 2:30 (when I left) She saw 11 people, so thats almost 1/2 hour per person avg. SO - if you come and there's 6 people ahead, decide whether you can wait for 3 hours or not. If you can - chill out it's not bad! She has a 40" (estimating here) TV you can watch movies on. (They played Ms. Doubtfire today, Hehe!) OR, bring a book, your computer, etc. I would bring some snacks too, but if you need to step out for coffee you can, as long as your name is on that list! (It's first come, first serve, and the make a list) Oh, also - if you're waiting before 9, beware of cutters! When she opened the door I had to call out some jerk who was pushing their way in (..uh, like...we see what you're tryin to do here, man ) SMH. Ok now about the taxes... holy sh**t! I was shocked to get almost 3k. Last year,I only got like 780. This year, I had a 1099 to add, along with tuition. I brought a list of my expenses and some receipts, which probably helped a bit. Nevertheless, she really, clearly knows what she's doing - it's obvious, like she's not fishing around to try and come up with stuff. She's straight to the point, hunts stuff down, and bam bam bam you're out in like 20 mins! ( again, this is for me - the avg was from like, 15 - 45 mins per person based on their situation) Look, I wouldn't be writing all this stuff for nothing, I am really happy with what went down today. When I called, the receptionist said to be there at a quarter to 9, the office is suppose to open at 9. Dina doesn't show up until 9:20. No sorry I'm late, thanks for waiting. That should of been a red flag right there. But gave her the benefit of the doubt. Second clue, she treated her receptionist with no respect, no professionalism what so ever. So I waited 2 hours and finally it was my turn. I had my ID but didn't remember that I had to bring my husband's ID also. All she said was, I can't do it, it's not worth it for me. I asked if I can just bring his ID the next day. Simply no was her answer. No consideration of any kind for her potential client. She could of offered to do the return for me, not file it yet until I bring his ID. Or at the least, suggest that I come another day and I will be the first with no wait. Instead she told me I am better off doing it some place else, after I had waited at her office for 2 whole hours. She doesn't even deserve 1 star, I would give a big Zero if I could.
