Love my color, highlights and butterfly cut with Taylor! Finally found another Aveda salon after my previous place shutdown due to Covid.

I am a customer of both Andrea and Taylor in the Geneva and Algonquin locations and have great experiences. They are pros at their work whether doing a cut, color or makeup. Attentive to the clients vision and able to execute it! But this mother/daughter team was even more amazing as stylists for my daughter's wedding handling the typical wedding morning flurry with skill, efficiency, heart and calm! Jordyn did such an excellent job on my daughter's first time dyeing her hair, by doing a balayage. The atmosphere of the salon is wonderful. Trish is a genius with color and cuts!! Everyone there is super nice too! I think their prices are very reasonable able as well.

I have extremely naturally curly unruly hair. I got a treatment to smooth out my curls. Amazing results as you can see from the photo attached. Absolutely no frizz in my hair. I have also received color and highlights at this salon using various stylists and all the girls were nice and pleasant. Great place to come. read more

I am always embarassed for the managers who hire the uneducated, immature staff at the front desk. I have a six letter last name; I shouldn't have to repeat it three times. When I used to go in to buy my products, I'd automatically pull out my DL to give my last name b/c it was so frustrating. I now get my product at Spa Bleu where at least they're not dingbats. Salon Couture in Elgin is another Aveda spa who deserves the business, plus, they have a coffee joint right next to it! As for a service; I rec'd one massage at their other location in Lake in the HIlls/Alg off Alg. Rd., and was treated very nicely, but asked TWICE for gratuity! Once from the massage therapist and once from the check out girl. I get it... I'll make my decision about gratuity. Kristin the nail tech at the Commons location did a great job on my toes and was easy to talk to - impressed me that she didn't say "like" every other word. read more

I like Aveda products and usually like Aveda spas/salons. I expect a higher level of customer service at Aveda salons...silly me. 4-5 people standing at the front desk, and I still waited in line for 10 minutes while someone couldn't get a receipt to print up properly for the customer in front of me. No one thought to help me...all I wanted to do was pay my bill and go back to have my service completed. The towels they use on clients during mani's and pedi's are rough and old. My manicure is definitely not worth $40. A few spots where the polish was thin, and uneven on the side of my nail. Way too much polish ended up on my cuticles...just wanted to leave when I was done. I would expect cutting corners at some other salons/spas, but not with Aveda...once again, silly me. I just won't be going back. read more

Purchased gift cards at Taylor Stevens valued at $300.00 and was told the card company went out of business and they are useless. I purchased them at their store not at a card company. The girl at the front desk was a maroon! I said I purchased these at your store and question her why they were worthless and she said she did not like the tone of my voice. Beware of companies who hire maroon and do not stand behind their products! Will never go there and will post on every sight I can about their lack of professionalism. Fantastic treatment! I was greeted by a friendly woman who offered me a drink while I waited for my hair appointment. The atmosphere is relaxing and everyone is very friendly. I got a cut ,color, my brows waxed, and my make up done for my date that night. My hair color and cut is the BEST I ever had! The woman Stephanie who did my make up was such a fun woman to chat with and gave me a beautiful natural look. My appointment was on may 9th. I'm so glad I received a gift card to this great salon! Taylor Stevens has been my only salon for I am guessing over ten years. Stacey has been cutting my (short) hair for years, and she is impeccable! She is incredibly talented and provides completely honest feedback. She's an amazing conversationalist, and the comfort level was there from the moment I met her. For anyone who knows what a sacred relationship you have with your stylist is, I can tell you that you are safe with her! The front desk staff is always welcoming and professional. My personal opinion is very unprofessional and unfriendly environment. I do not recommend if your a person that likes to be treated with respect. I ignored the yelp reviews before going in and was sadly regretful. As other reviews have said the owner Andrea is rude and disrespectful. This will obviously vary depending on your interaction with her, but knowing this I will never go back. As far as coloring is concerned, I highly do not recommend. Choose a salon with confidence. Do your research before entering a salon and make your choices smart. I came here several years ago , and still have not forgotten how terribly the owner , Andrea , had treated me . They did a terrible job on my hair and when I started crying , she made a scene and kicked me out of the salon !! Yes my hair was in bad shape , but no one deserves that treatment . Well guess what Andrea ?! Fast forward years later , and I have beautiful bleach blonde hair down to my waist , with no extensions !! Used to love this place. Went there monthly for waves, was thinking about getting my hair colored over here, basically put so much money into this place I was probably helping keep their business afloat. However, I will never be back as long as Diane Hernandez is the receptionist. She is unprofessional, rude, racist and worst of all -- unapologetic about any of it. Until this worker is gone, I will no longer be scheduling any appointments here and will happily take my business to another salon. Based on my experience over the phone, I wouldn't use this salon. I attempted to schedule an appointment for a cut & color but the receptionist (or whomever answered) seemed unknowledgeable how to do that. She placed me on hold & returned approximately 5 minutes later to say she needed to put me on hold again to "find out how". I was on hold another 10 minutes & I hung up thinking she forgot I was on the line. I called back & inquired about available appointments & she answered stating she needed to put me on hold again because she still hadn't asked. No apology for the wait and her tone was extremely unfriendly. After another 10 minutes or so on hold, I hung up. Another salon would value my business; my impression was that it inconvenienced this one. If that was any indication of their level of service, I'm happy I went elsewhere. read more

Glad I didn't read the reviews before going to this place.. made a next day appointment, without hassles, my stylist Trish was running on time and did an amazing job on a color touch-up, her personality was great and very professional. I came to Taylor Stevens to get my roots highlighted. My hair dresser's touch-up made my hair look exactly the same as it did before. It looked like a total of 5 highlights were added. A complete waste of $120 dollars. Not only did my hair look the same, but my hair dresser dried my naturally curly hair with a blow dryer (I warned her that my hair is naturally curly, therefore it would be a frizz ball after blow drying.) She left it like that because she had to "hurry" to her next customer! My hair dresser didn't style my hair AT ALL. I left the salon a frizz ball and it was completely embarrassing for me and should be for Taylor Stevens Salon to have a customer with a frizz ball on their head coming out of their salon. Next time, I suggest each hair dresser makes sure to have their customers leave at least with a hair style, especially when I am paying $120 for no difference in my hair. I do not recommend this salon. Not to mention, the culture here is uncomfortable. Hair stylists gossiping about others while I'm getting my hair done looks unprofessional and makes me think you are unfriendly (not somewhere I want to give my business to). read more

I had been going to this salon to see Tiffany since early 2013. I had received good haircuts, but recently, my at experience at this salon went from good to bad. I had scheduled to have my base color touched up. Bad idea! I was told I would get a slightly richer color but not darker. As I sat alone for more than 50 minutes with dark dye on my hair, I knew this wasn't the light golden brown I had asked for to match my then-current color. My hair is now dark cherry (brassy and fake) brown. After calling three times--and getting no call back--to ask if washing my hair would make it lighter, I finally spoke to Tiffany who didn't seem particularly sorry that I wasn't happy with my service. I was to come back in for them to put a "gloss" on it to correct the brassiness but I got nervous after my first color experience there. I called to say I was worried my hair would get damaged putting more color on it so close after the first application. A week later, I called to speak with manager Stephanie and I received an attitude because she said I had cancelled "at the last minute" (for a trip back to that salon I shouldn't even have had to make). I had called Stephanie to ask if I could use my regular Garnier Olia color to cover up the red color. Never got the chance to ask. All I know is this salon doesn't understand what good customer services constitutes. I now do not recommend Taylor Stevens Salon any longer--too stressful and not Aveda-like at all. read more

I just had my first and last experience at Taylor Stevens Salon and Spa. The front desk receptionist was rude and totally disinterested. Usually, when I go to a salon for the first time, I get some sort of welcome. Nothing here at all. Just a mumbled "whatsyournamehaveaseatshe'llberightup." He wasn't too busy to gossip with another customer though, so that was nice. The stylist wasn't rude, but I've never been to a salon where not one word is spoken throughout the entire service. The haircut was ok, nothing great, but not too bad, but the awkward silence made it unbearable. The front area was disgusting. There was dust and dirt all over the floor and the product shelves had a thick layer of dust as well. Definitely a salon that is trying to be upscale but just doesn't have the staff that cares enough to make it happen. read more

She's so easy to talk to, she does her job perfectly, and she makes sure everything's okay and to your liking while you're getting your hair done. I wouldn't know what I'd do if she left. The absolute worst salon I have ever been to in my life and I've been to MANY salons. I asked her for a simple bleach and tone and Stephanie completely ruined my hair. It was orange and brown and I am typically platinum blonde. Once she realized she had made a HUGE mistake, she proceeded to re-bleach my hair immediately after she had just blow dried it. I was in her chair for 4 hours for a simple bleach and tone and she never once asked me if I had extra time in my day to sit there. THEN I told the male owner of the store about my horrible experience and he proceeded to tell me they would absolutely not refund me and I left having to pay $100 to get my hair ruined and in tears. Absolutely do NOT go to this salon, do NOT get Stephanie, and do NOT give them your money! Crooked. read more

I'm really not into the girly experience, and she honestly educated me on the different products, and ideas for my always a mess of a do! Also, I love Aveda products but sometimes when I go to Aveda salons, I feel really out of place because I'm not all done up or barbie sized. Here, everyone was "human." I appreciated that. Wanted to switch to a salon closer to home. This one is very close to me. They are nice and friendly. I had Kristen for a cut and highlights. I hadn't had highlights in awhile and didn't want it too blonde. She did a great job at blending my brunette with lighter highlights. The cut was very good as well. I have been back to her again and have another appointment scheduled for next week. I took my daughter there a couple of weeks ago, she has never had her hair colored and wanted ombre done. Kristen did a great job. My daughter loved it and all her friends have been complimenting her on how good it looks. Would highly recommend this salon as well as Kristen. She's very sweet and listens well to what you want. Plus this salon has the journey pack of coupons so you get half off your next visit for a hair cut, massage, color, etc. read more

I am going to have to give this place a 1 star. I went in for a consultation last week as I wanted to get a gray color with highlights. The girl at the counter was super nice, she had me speak with one of the stylist. The stylist talked me out of it. I let her know that i wanted to do something about all my grays as i was tired of the line i get when it grows out from dye. She recommended a brown demi-dye with a few highlights. I agreed and set up an appointment for this week. I also wanted a cut. First the cut was about 2-3 inches shorter than requested. When I told her, she said it was because she used a round brush to style it... yeah... it was not curled and I pulled me hour down and guess what? It did not miraculously extend 2-3 inches. But I can live with that. It will eventually grow back. What has me beyond upset is that I still have 90% of my gray so that means,I just paid $200 for a hair cut. This is by far the most expensive hair cut I have ever had. When I set up the appointment the receptionist told me that I would be looking at about $200 for the gray and highlights as they would have to strip/bleach color and highlight. So when we decided not to do that and to a brown dye, I figured it would be cheaper. My mistake for not asking. When I looked at my bill I was charged extra for EXTRA dye... REALLY? First I still have 90% of my gray and she cut off most of my hair...they got $200 from me for a hair cut but lost my buisness. I don't mi de spending $200 on my hair but expect to see the results I espected. read more

If you value your hair...stay away. I went in asking for color and a cut. We talked extensively about exactly what I wanted. I explained that I have grey hair and would like to use some of the grey to highlight rather than bleach, but that I needed a lot of lowlights and color around my face to avoid looking washed out by the grey. I showed at least 3 pictures. Bottom line: I walked out with neither the cut nor color I wanted, not even close. I asked for a drastically slanted bob. My hair was down to my bra stap in back and bangs were to my shoulders in front. I said they could cut the back up to the collar but wanted the front left long. I have nothing resembeling an angled bob. I'm not even sure what it resembles. My hair was cut at least 4" all the way around and layers were added giving me bangs! Ugh!!! I can't do ANYTHING with this mess. I am not the type to complain and was hesitant to call and have them fix this mess because the girl that did it is the owner's daughter. When I finally did call (4 days later) they only had one day, 10 days later, that I could see the girl I wanted to try fix it. Unfortunately life happens and I had to reschedule this appointment for business reasons. I called to notify them 10 hours prior to this appointment, and they couldn't get me in for another 8 days. I booked a new appointment for 8 days later and they called me back 3 days after telling me they would have to charge me full price because it has been too long since the original appointment. The original botch job was on August 4th. I reminded them that THEY took photos before and after the appointment and I took a selfie in the car immediately following because I was unhappy. I also reminded them that THEY only had 2 appointments during the time I needed with either of the 2 gals I approved to try to fix this. Their exact words on my phone message (on August 29th) was that because I "had the service back in August" (hmmmm it's still August) and that my hair had changed to much since that time in color and length (my hair doesn't grow that fast) the team decided I would have to pay for any new service." I paid $172 for something I absolutely hated and now they want to charge me AGAIN. The attitude of Charlie (receptionist? manager?) was one of "tough luck" it's your fault that you had to reschedule the appointment we gave you to fix this the first time. I didn't have to warn my friends...they saw my hair and all agreed I should never go back there. If I could post a photo I would so you could see this mess. Just ok... I scheduled a hand relieving manicure and a foot relieving pedicure with a shellac add on for my hands. When I got there and the technician started my hands she did not soak my cuticles first. It was painful actually. She scraped them back the clipped them dry. She didn't do what I scheduled but instead just started polishing them after cleaning them up. She said she couldn't do shellac with a hand relieving manicure because the lotion would ruin the polish. Hmmm. I have been to other nail salons who were able to do both. You just wash your hands before you put polish on. Or put lotion on/ exfoliate after the shellac is on. I'm wondering why this salon isn't capable of doing that. There was nothing relieving about this manicure. The shellac polish was not applied correctly and I could see the sides of my nails uncovered. Not worth the money at all. The counter behind the nail tech tables was dirty. Most of the staff seemed snotty and put off by the presence of customers in general. The break room door was left open and the staff could be heard having unprofessional conversations. Awkward. I gave this place a couple tries but never again. Took my daughter here for her first eyebrow waxing. Walked in without an appointment so we had to wait, understood, my mistake. Annie is spot on about the lack of maturity at the front desk. My daughter was apprehensive about getting the procedure done, she wanted me in the room with her. The person doing the waxing showed attitude when I came in the room, maybe she didn't want someone in there or maybe because dads don't usually do this with their girls, whatever. So very disappointed. I'm not a big girly girly but decided to splurge on my 3rd ever no chip. Was told it will last 2 weeks.
