They were fair, honest and fast, once our vehicle was at the shop. They were so busy we had to wait almost a week to get our vehicle towed there, but then they had it diagnosed, fixed, and ready to go in a couple hours. (Clutch cylinder) They even called to make sure everything was good, that's great customer service. I would highly recommend. read more

They came recommended by a co worker of mine, and I was extremely satisfied with their work. I had booked with them, but my car issues became drastically worse and I called them just to check on what I could do. They told me I could drop it off 2 days early and they would try to work it in. Dropped it off, and within an hour, they had diagnosed the issue and had an estimate for me. It was very reasonable, so I gave the go ahead. My boyfriend's car had a really bad grinding coming from the rear left wheel. He took it to Howiler to get it checked out and they tried to charge him $75 from an hour of work to take one tire off. And then proceeded to take all 4 tires off and call my boyfriend and tell him that he needed all of his brakes, rotors, and calipers on all 4 wheels need to be replaced for $1200. when it was only the left rear that was the issue. Then when my boyfriend came to pick up the car they lied to my boyfriends face and told him that he needed to pay $1200 for replacing everything or else his car wouldn't be able to leave the shop and then when my boyfriend confronted them about lying to his face they got mad and tighten the lug nuts on all his tires so tight that they rounded out all of the lug nut. I was recommended by a friend and was not disappointed. The only reason I did not give them five stars was the wait. It wasn't long, I just noticed that they invoiced my car at 4:30 the same day and I could have picked it up before they closed at 5, but they didn't call until 9:50 the next day and I was carpooling out of town at 10. I went here about 8 months ago because of a broken axle. I got an estimate from a "chain" mechanic, and they wanted close to $1,200 for an axle and a couple parts that connected the axle. Considering my car cost me $4000 10 years ago, I decided to forgo the chain, and after reading reviews about Howilers from google, I had my car towed to Howiler's. Not only did they refuse to replace the non-axle parts (instead they bent back one piece, and said the other one was fine), they had me on my way in about a day for about $200. They go out of their way to NOT replace something, and help you get a less expensive repair. After only going there once, I will NOT be going anywhere else. If you can get over the "rustic" look of the garage, trust me you will be very happy with your service. About the only complaint I have is that they use the cheapest parts they can fine, often using refurbished parts. While for my older car I don't mind, just keep that in mind. You may simply have to ask to use new parts if you don't mind paying a little extra. read more

This was my first experience with Howiler Stroud. I was referred to them by a good friend who highly recommended them to me. I was able to drop my car off and they adequately diagnosed the issues as I had already had it into one other shop. The estimate that was given to me to do the repairs was several hundred dollars lower so I thought I would give them a try. The repairs were done timely and within the estimate provided. I picked up my vehicle and the next day it started making a new and strange noise. I called Howilers and they asked me to bring it back in. We dropped the vehicle off again they made a small adjustment from the repair and did not charge me (as would be expected). This is where their outstanding customer service comes into the scene. They were suppose to leave the vehicle outside their garage locked with the keys in it so we could pick it up after hours and unfortunately did not do that. We drove 30 mins to pick a vehicle that was not there, but the next day after I explained my inconvenience of taking off work early to come get it and that I would have to do it again, they volunteered to bring my vehicle to me at my home. When they drop the vehicle off, it had a voucher in it for a free oil change. I will say that my first experience was not silky smooth but they made every effort to make it right. Michelle and Andy are a great example of a small business trying to make a positive impact with affordable pricing and quality customer service. I will return as a customer again. read more

Been there several times for my boyfriend's car or mine. It's always hit or miss. My boyfriend had his car there to top off fluids and do an inspection. He started having an overheating problem soon after and took it to another shop. The other shop told him that whoever had just worked on the car (which was Howiler's) did not tighten a clamp. Customer service can be good or bad. I took my car in for brakes because they were cheaper than the dealer. Later that day realized there was grinding and dragging noises coming from the car. Took it to the dealer for the noise and was told my the brake pads were not oriented correctly (backwards) and the shims were not installed properly. When I called Howilers to tell them, the guy on the phone was somewhat rude. My boyfriend's car was dropped off to be worked on and 3 days later still hadn't heard anything from them. They are reasonably priced though and open on Saturdays for what it's worth. read more
