Disappointing lunch today. ONE waitress handling all of the outdoor tables, so slow service. Food was slightly above average. We asked for drink refills before our food came out and FINALLY received it after we were almost done eating (so 15-20 minutes). Ordered a dessert and after 20 minutes of not receiving it we cancelled it and asked for the bill and received the full charge for the dessert which was not delivered until we were leaving (handed us the dessert in a bag as we were paying the bill...we insisted that they remove the charge and, with lots of attitude from the waitress, they removed it). Redwoods Grill & Bar in Chester definitely has curb appeal. When you drive by it, you think "that looks like a good place to eat". The large, attractive building features a lot of blue and white that almost gives it seashore vibe. There's a sizable outdoor dining area with plenty of tables shaded with umbrellas and even a row of American flags billowing in the wind. So, not being familiar with Chester, and not seeing any other restaurants nearby, I decided to pull in for lunch. It was a bit too cold to eat outside, so I sat in their dining room, which was spacious and attractive, but surprisingly empty given that it was the height of lunch time. After a quick glance at the menu, I immediately spotted what I wanted, the Firecracker Chicken Sandwich. This was for me! Buttermilk marinated chicken, deep fried with a seasoned firecracker crust, served on a ciabatta roll with spicy carrot slaw, herb-buttermilk mayo, fries, and a pickle. Sadly, the description on the menu was the best thing about the sandwich. What I got was an unimpressive looking chicken sandwich that had been overcooked and was devoid of any moisture, tenderness or flavor. It simply wasn't edible. To their credit, they took it back without question and asked if I'd prefer something else. I choose a roasted turkey tea sandwich on multi-grain bread with a side salad. This was definitely better, but still not great. Perhaps Redwoods Grill & Bar is more in their zone for dinner service and maybe this was just an off day, however, based on my experience there, at least as far as the food goes, Redwoods Grill & Bar isn't a place I can really recommend. I should mention that this review was written In September, when I was there, but I forgot to post it, so perhaps it's different now. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place! I'm OBSESSED with the mild wings - they are always delicious! The people are also super sweet and understanding, which always keeps me coming back too. The dessert is always the best! I highly recommend the Molten Lava Cake! The ambiance is always nice as it may not seem that bright, but the windows are big and the curtains are always down, so enough light to see and enjoy the scenery. read more

I hadn't been there in ages and I was pleasantly surprised! The old favorites were still on the menu while new and exciting dishes were added! They have amazing weekly specials - Currently they have: Mondays buy one special get one special free! My husband and I came for lunch today. We ordered the fish and chips. That was on the specials menu. It came out. My husband started eating it and it was totally raw. The kitchen said they didn't cook it enough so by the time I got done with my lunch, his lunch came out then he ordered a burger. The right thing that the manager should've done was taken his order off or offer us dessert of some sort I am a general manager in restaurants and that's what I would have done. We've rediscovered this place recently and have enjoyed coming as a family. The food is generally excellent and they have a good drink menu. But the absolute star - strongly recommended if you come - is the Thai peanut noodles. Sounds simple, but it's absolutely delicious, I can't bring myself to order anything else. Another strong point is the good variety of kids meals. They have the typical burger, hot dog, Mac & cheese of course, but they also have shrimp or bbq chicken with vegetables. One other tip - if you want to sit outside, definitely call ahead for a reservation. read more

Great place with a fabulous menu. The menu has SO many great things on it that it takes me forever to order!! The app section is amazing so we wound up grazing for dinner recently. The caesar salad has a unique homemade tasty dressing which was addictive! The fried leeks were so yummy but messy to eat! My husband got the lamb chop app which he enjoyed & I had the mini crab cakes & they were great! We also enjoyed the grilled shrimp app - so tasty! Nice indoor atmosphere & there is a large outdoor area with heaters as well. Plenty of parking - get there & try this place - you will love it! read more

From the second we got to Redwoods we had a terrible experience. We had a reservation for 8 and showed up at 7:15...no big deal, we asked if we could sit at the bar and wait. They were incredibly rude and made it clear they were upset with us showing up early. We ordered several appetizers and one round each. We had to point out that there was a hair in our water. When we went to order dessert they told us we were cut off from alcohol. We were confused? Still, we cannot figure out who or why we were cut off. It's a shame because we probably would have ordered several desserts and more drinks - and some of the people in our party regularly attended Redwoods. read more

Overpriced and underwhelmed. Had a chicken sandwich which I thought was going to be crispy chicken sandwich with chicken breast ended up being sliced chicken with bacon and cheese. Was OK but not worth the $16 with mediocre fries. My wife's $18 omelet was bland and came with burnt toast. While the waitress was very nice she didn't provide my wife with a straw for her ice filled cocktail. Also, the "balsamic vinagrette" for her salad was actually oil and vinegar. read more

*** 3 1/2 stars *** I came here for a post-hike lunch with one of my noble chums last Saturday. This was her recommendation, as she had had a pleasant experience here before. Admittedly I was a little tepid on it based on my superficial impressions from driving past a few hours earlier when it was still closed - the signage could definitely use an upgrade, and the location feels a little desolate when there's no cars in the parking lot. I definitely felt better about this establishment once I had a chance to give it more of a look. The parking situation is a little intense. We met up here around 2ish and the lunch crowd was still in full swing. There were no parking spots available, but thankfully the property manager (I think?) was on the premises and told me I could park in front of a business behind this restaurant that was closed for the week. Who knows what would have happened if I hadn't encountered her - I might have had to park on the side of the road like a heathen. Despite the crowded parking lot, we had zero problems getting seated immediately outside (which makes me think they just need to get more parking around here somehow to match the seating availability). Since I was already a bit dehydrated from my sweltering hike, I just opted for water. The waiter was very on top of his game in that regard - I don't think the level of water in the glass ever got to the halfway mark. I also went with a plain hamburger, feeling the need to assert my place at the top of the food chain, as well as the seasonal fruit crisp, which featured peaches and blueberries. The burger was pretty tasty but very greasy. I had to dab it off a bit prior to munching. I also requested medium rare and it was definitely rare. It was still fine - I'll eat rare as long as it's not mooing at me, but if you're skittery about your verging-on-raw meat, be aware. The fruit crisp stole the show. I'm usually not a fan of peaches (their furriness makes me uncomfortable), but these were very fresh and delicious and provided a juicy counterbalance to the tart blueberries. Strong recommend. The service was pretty good. I mentioned the diligence with the water glass, and most of our items came out pretty quickly. For whatever reason, the dessert took about 20 minutes. I was a little nervous about that since I got the crisp ala mode, but the delays thankfully didn't occur subsequent to ice cream application. Could have been worse, and neither of us were on a tight schedule. And beyond that, our waiter was perfectly pleasant - no issues there. The price point was pretty comparable for the area, especially taking into account that the location is right outside of the Chester tourist trap. I think my total came to around $30, which is fine. Nothing here was mind-blowing, but that was true of both the positives and the negatives. I'd have no issue coming back here to rest my weary hindpaws again. read more

We went to this place for lunch primarily due to a Redwoods gift card we were given and almost forgot about. Because we don't live in the immediate Chester area, my only awareness of this place was the gift card and the internet propaganda reviews. In short, this place was a delightful surprise! The dining room had a nice atmosphere and seating arrangement. Service was attentive enough but on the slow-ish side which may have been due to multiple large "holiday lunch" get togethers taking place that December weekday. The menu was good as was the food that we ordered. The parking along the side of the building is odd. They are angled which would make sense if there was an exit around the building as you pull out. There is no exit that way that I'm aware of so you have to k-turn it around once you get to the end of the overall property and then hope no one else in coming down your way. Would it still receive 4 stars without the gift card? Yes. If already visiting Chester and were looking for a place to dine, we'd go there again. read more

Their was so much fat, grizzle and silver skin it was difficult to chew. And , No I didn't mention this to the manager which I should have. However, We will chalk it up as a lesson learned. We had a great dinner tonight. There's ample parking in a lot. There are tables indoors and outdoors plus a full bar area with multiple TVs showing the Jets v. Giants game. Jackie took care of us. She was very helpful and attentive. All of our meals were delicious. We had the beet salad, mussels, filet, bucatini with crawfish and andouille sausage, and gnocchi. Jackie started us with warm rolls and butter. They serve Coke products. Desserts were also great. We had the special bread pudding, the special ice cream sandwich on chocolate chip cookies, and the brookie sundae which was huge. We're looking forward to returning for more delicious food in the future. read more

Unfortunately, today did not start out to be a good day, my wife and I went to Redwood's for lunch, and on their lunch specials, they had fish and chips, they finally brought our lunch out, and I cut into the fish and it seemed a bit on the raw side. Then, when I cut in a little more, the fish was still attached to the fish skin and I couldn't pull it apart. To be honest with you. It was quite disgusting, I told our server Tori who handled that very professionally, however the manager that was there for the lunch did not handle it. Professionally, she took the dish away, and I guess went back into the kitchen and came out and said yes the fish was raw. In the meantime my wife was eating her lunch, and she finished her lunch before I got my burger that I ordered and place of the fish and chips, do you think that they would offer her a coffee or dessert to eat while I'm eating my lunch? The whole day was a complete mess over there, I came home and was not feeling good and thought I'd called the establishment to find out what their protocol is if I get any type of food poisoning, I had spoken to the person that told me the fish was raw and during our conversation, she said that she never said it was raw that it was undercooked, so then I proceeded to say what does undercook mean, it means that it wasn't cooked, which means that it's still on the raw side, then I spoke to another manager and told her what the situation was told her that I wasn't feeling that good but I was gonna hold off on going to the doctors or the hospital and she proceeded to say that maybe it's all in my head and that I wasn't really getting sick! This is the type of staff that I was dealing with yesterday. I'm getting aggravated as I'm writing this review in short we will never ever be back there again. read more

We have gone here for years. We hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner & they catered our wedding reception. We have always loved the food, service & atmosphere. So I do recommend. However, they had a huge wedding shower & were way way too busy to handle our table of2. We made reservations, perhaps they should not have booked more than they could handle!!!! Our waitress was clearly not one of their best & didn't seem to concerned that our appetizer was delayed & salad & dinner came out fast. We had ALL 3 at once!!!! First time at Redwoods and I was pleasantly surprised with my experience. Service wasn't terrific despite being nearly empty at 4pm, but the menu had lots to choose from at all surprisingly reasonable prices. Chose to order the Beer Brined Chicken Sandwich and I must say it was pretty delicious. The fries were definitely lacking, however, and next time I would opt to order a side salad or the chips (tasted like the typical frozen from a bag fries). We just simply enjoyed this place. Decided to go for a ride on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Found this joint in the darling town of Chester. Fun bar, outdoor seating. We were seated immediately, thanks to dear Joan. Our servers name was Craig and he was awesome, attentive and professional. I would definitely skip ordering a salad - the mixed greens were very bitter, grape tomatoes not too good and only 3 choices of dressings. The salad was very large and the Caesar salad was much too big also. The Chilean Sea Bass was very good , the carrots were not cooked- blanched would be a better word.
