We had lunch in this homey, charming little restaurant in Chester. The staff couldn't have been nicer- they happily answered our questions about some of the items on the menu. I had the Smashed Sweet Potato Burger which was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had!!! A delicious brioche roll was filled with two patties made from sweet potatoes and spices, covered in pistachios and crispy shallots, then drizzled with honey. Even a non-Vegan will love this. The standard looking French fries were anything but- they were crispy and delicious with just the right amount of sea salt. The chicken tenders were cooked perfectly and seemed freshly made not frozen. Everyone had to have a taste. The dessert was the showstopper- citrus olive oil cake topped with whipped cream and orange zest. The texture was amazing and it was incredibly delicious. My young grandson had a dish of vanilla ice cream, which also looked standard until you tasted it- super creamy with a strong vanilla flavor that was really outstanding. Everyone enjoyed their meal, which was reasonably priced. I honestly can't wait to go there again. We ordered the cornbread special, the porchetta sandwich special, and the biscuits and gravy. Everything was fresh, filling, and delicious. The porchetta sandwich was flavorful, though I personally found a few pieces a bit fatty with some skin, which wasn't my preference. The biscuits and cornbread on the other hand were fantastic! These days,while I appreciate the attempt in making the interior more inviting (think Mid-Century modern vibes), this is "order & pay at the counter" type of service,with significantly reduced menu options (mostly sandwiches), and given the pricing the food itself wasn't satisfying unfortunately (we had Falafel wrap and Pren Burger,both of which I would probably have done much better at home-lacking flavors overall,plastic dishes,falafels were basically mashed chickpeas). This place is really adorable! it has the perfect ambience for your girl group to come and visit. It has giant games it has enough seating and also it's a very cute out of the way area so you won't feel rushed out or anything like that. The food is OK I would say like many cafés in the area. It is terribly underseasoned. Me and my entire group kept asking for sauces on the side and hot sauce because it just really had almost no flavor. You could tell it was fresh ingredients but at the same time I think they could definitely be more conscious of the flavor. Unfortunately, I've got to say...the new Pren just isn't what it used to be. I miss the sit down restaurant. The service is pretty poor every time we've gone. Food just consistently misses the mark. Baked goods aren't great. The vibe isn't really enjoyable anymore. And for the new setup, the prices are a bit outrageous. It was such a cute spot with healthy, consistently delicious food either unique options to try. I am not sure if the change in setup was due to a change in ownership but...this a bummer as we were there fairly regularly! A lovely cute cafe! I stopped by with a friend on a beautiful day and enjoyed lunch outside. Conveniently located in downtown Chester it makes it the perfect stop while walking around town. It is order at the counter and seat yourself then they bring your food out to you. The staff was super friendly! I enjoyed the Korean chicken salad wrap which was flavorful along with the taro latte. We were walking around chester and we stopped in Pren for the first time with seen it when they opened in 2019 very cute quaint little place to eat food is excellent More on the healthier version had the pleasure of meeting the owner kreig who was also the chef. had the butternut squash coconut soup, which was excellent and their version of the BLT was great. But he opted to not get it, it was a bit pricey, $23. So he got the chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries, and I got a plain grilled cheese with sweet pot potato fries. I'm not sure if I came in on an off day for them, because my experience did not match the high reviews I see. Took a nice little drive to Chester on MDW. I was inspired by instagram's ms.chester_nj to come in to try their new mochi donuts. It seems to be a hit because some other man came in saying "I'm here for the donuts". When I placed the order, the fella at the counter asked if I wanted a drizzle on them, to which I said no, but I didn't realize drizzle = glaze. I later found out I ordered them plain. I think it would be better to tell the customer "you can get them plain, with a flavored glaze, or tossed in cinnamon sugar", which, I later read on Instagram. I waited 20 minutes and realize they forgot about me because when I asked if they could check on my order they told me they were out of one of the flavors I wanted. I noticed the staff telling other people that they were going to need to wait longer and also that they ran out of certain items. Very nice people, don't get me wrong. But a wait is a wait. In total I waited 30 minutes for 2 plain donuts. I don't mind waiting for freshly prepared desserts, but 30 minutes for 2 donuts is excessive. I also got an iced Americano, which was pretty good/strong and a good amount of ice. I'd like to come back to try this place again because their food does look really good. An interesting establishment, Pren is tucked away from Chester's main street. The place seems more like a converted home where the interior represents a basic, if not sterile, style although the high prices would indicate otherwise. Although the food is good, the dessert blew me away: Homemade strawberry ice cream with homemade whipped cream over a homemade brownie. Absolutely stellar. The best part about Pren is the service. I've always loved Pren Kitchen and I love this new and updated "Pren Cafe" even more! First off, I loved that it's a cafe opened all day (till 7:30p). Next, the menu had such great options and everything was so tasty (the feta onion puffs are a must). Service was also outstanding. The icing on top is that everything is made fresh! And of course, they still have their books and games available, which matches the cute and comfy ambience nicely. It's so nice having a cafe like this in the area. Very disappointing experience! We arrived around 1 p.m., and as soon as we walked in, several waitresses saw me but completely ignored me -- just walking around without offering any help. Even when my husband came in holding our baby, they still acted like we didn't exist. I went up to the cashier to ask if there were any available tables. She coldly said "no," even though there were clearly four or five empty tables inside and outside. When I asked again, one waitress casually said their kitchen was too small to take more customers -- but I saw them doing nothing, just standing around. They asked me to leave my phone number, saying they'd call in 20 minutes, but no one ever did. I felt completely dismissed and unwelcome. Went there after apple picking. The decor is very modern. There are board games there you can play with (it kept my toddler busy while we wait for the food). The staff was great, they only had one chef so it took a little longer but they make sure we are taken care of while we wait. The food was really good, it's flavorful but yet light. I don't go for healthy food normally but it felt very healthy. Pren fries was great and not oily, my toddler loved it. Bae was really really good. Chicken waffle is different from what I expected but I'm a good way. The Sriracha was good and not too spicy that my toddler would eat it. We were not sure about dessert because our toddler is allergic to nuts I was so happy we got the blueberry pie. It looks good and tastes even better. Very fresh. Came on a weekday and it was surprisingly full for lunch. They have a normal sized menu and service was friendly and timely. Their crab cake sandwich was good! Not too fishy or dry. ***3 1/2 stars*** I get the overwhelmingly positive feedback for this restaurant - it has a unique atmosphere and you can tell that its proprietors are trying to create something different. I think we can all appreciate that as far as it goes. But in their quest to do that, it felt like they lost sight of the bigger purpose, which is a positive dining experience for its customers. It wasn't a terrible meal by any stretch, but it could have been better, and in my opinion pretty easily. I came here for brunch on a very nippy Sunday afternoon. My responsible chum made reservations, but it looked fairly empty and was likely unnecessary, at least on this particular day. The interior is certainly a selling point. It has great natural lighting and feels comfortable but not claustrophobic - kind of like sitting in your own sunny kitchen or dining area at home. Our Honorary Young Pup enjoyed it as well, and solemnly declared that she wanted to live there within minutes of sitting down; if that's not an endorsement, I don't know what is. There's a giant playable Scrabble board on one wall next to the dessert menu, with plenty of board games underneath. I imagine other parties with young pups are very pleased by that distraction as you wait for your meal (and we didn't have to wait long - the food came out almost too quickly). In one of the more mystifying moments of the meal, we discovered that Pren does not offer coffee as a drink option on their menu. Two of us opted for hot tea in lieu of same, but coffee on a cold Sunday would have been very welcome. This to me is an example of overthinking the concept. Obviously I don't know what the thought process was there (and I'm genuinely curious about it), but I don't know too many people who don't want coffee at brunch. That's a slam dunk. We ended up going down the street for lattes afterwards, so that's money this place left on the table. I ordered the belgian waffle with berries and cream. It was okay, though the waffle was a bit overcooked. I didn't take points off for this since I didn't care enough to follow up, but I did think it was odd that it didn't come with syrup and/or butter on the side. Just something to keep in mind if it's important to you. Also in a strange move, instead of more traditional silverwear, Pren has this weird medical scalpel knife they give you, which was actually a little awkward to use, especially with a slightly overcooked waffle. This again might be overthinking the concept on their end. The Honorary Young Pup ordered the buttermilk chicken fingers with fries, and it was delicious. I shamelessly ate quite a few pieces (I have very few moral qualms about stealing food from children), but it was tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. If I came back here, I would focus exclusively on the chicken - they've mastered the almighty poultry. It may have been an off day, but no one was keen on the fries. They were on the soggy side and pretty flavorless, even the Pren fries that had rosemary and parmesan on them. My chum got the jumbo lump crab cake and seemed pretty pleased with it, though it was falling apart almost immediately upon contact with her paws. We closed this adventure out with another strong performance from the dessert menu - all three available cookies (raspberry thumb print, snickerdoodle and chocolate chip) were ordered, and all were excellent. The chocolate chip was probably the best, slightly undercooked to perfection, but it was a close, delicious race. There's a lot to like here. The prices were pretty reasonable, especially for this area, and there's no undervaluing quality service like this. I get the impression though that brunch isn't their niche, so you may want to go at a different time of day. read more

Pren is a cute comfort food establishment located in the heart of Chester, NJ. The service was efficient and friendly and the food was really good. You can tell that they use good quality ingredients. We had a late lunch here this past weekend and snagged one of the two tables located under the awning. My husband ordered the Chicken and Waffles. He proclaimed, "these are the best chicken and waffles, I've ever had." I'm not a big fan of that combination, so can't really weigh in on that, but the chicken was real tasty and crispy. I ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana Empanada. It was good, but not what I was expecting for the name. I thought it would have more cheese and sauce, but it was essentially an eggplant cutlet in an empanada shell. Both items were off the Daily Specials Menu. Overall, a nice place with a unique menu selection, good food and good service. The desserts looked great too, but we were too full. Perhaps next time! read more

Stumbled upon Pren Kitchen while enjoying an afternoon shopping in downtown Chester. We were greeted by very friendly hostesses. The inside of the restaurant was very cute with homelike touches - there was a giant scrabble board on the wall and many games for children to grab. The menu was plentiful and lots of great specials. The waiter recommended the meatloaf which I ended up ordering. It was very delicious and flavorful and it might be the best I have ever had! It came with 2 sides of which I chose the French onion soup and Mac and cheese. Both were delicious. We also ordered the pork nachos which were a very generous portion. Wow. What happened to this place? New owner? New chef? It used to be nice and cozy with booths tucked into the back wall, now it's sterile and boring. The food is "meh", definitely not what we remembered it being. The staff is beyond confused by how the menu works. Today our "waitress" told all of us we got 2 sides, no matter what we ordered. We showed her the menu that said "ala carte" and "sides not included" but she had some convoluted explanation about why sides actually *were* included. Okay. You're the employee, I'll assume you know best. Because I was told I got 2 sides, I chose them. Then my meatloaf meal came without the actual sides (mashed potatos and string beans) and only the sides I chose. When I asked why, a different waiter told me "oh, you chose 2 sides, so you didn't get the entire plate of food" - I only ordered sides b/c I was told (incorrectly) I could and I was never told the sides were *in place* of the actual sides with my meal. Interesting and unique menu - certainly something there for everyone. However on this visit two specials were selected. The open faced Tuna Melt with fries were enjoyed. The plentiful Turkey Chili was simply excellent. The children's Macaroni and Cheese brought smiles to my granddaughter face. Drizzled with honey, perfectly caramelized onion & crisp flatbread. I had the Pren Bae. It was a super flavorful sandwIch of bacon, chedder, avocado & sunny side up egg. I chose Pren fries. ( Parmesan & Rosemary) they were crispy & very tasty. My pal had the orzo & chicken salad. She said it was refreshing & seasoned well. We opted out of dessert as we we're pretty full.
