Pleasantly surprised like other Yelpers' reviews. We have many many Mediterranean chains near Taza and this place holds its own in goodness. Couple things I didn't like: The pickles are, well pickled, canned or processed - yuck. The thermostat read 64 degrees in this place on a 20 degree day we were freezing while dining in. Lunch meal was $13 where chains nearby are cheaper by about $3. Couple things I loved: The service - so friendly The hummus was a little pale but it was yummy! All of the food was delicious and seasoned perfectly. I would eat here again or suggest the office cater this place for any big upcoming meetings. read more

Pretty straight forward kebab place. All food is made fresh and portion is nice. Food is not over seasoned and the platters are pretty filling. Comfortable seating and decorated motif. Falafel were made to order. Hummus was smooth as silk and I like they used sumac spice on top of the food which gave a nice accent of flavors. All food was delicious and sauces were unique and plentiful! Deserts were really good and made with real butter! Great place to pick up great food at a good price! read more

Have ordered the chicken shawarma plate twice. The chicken, falafel, hummus, tahini and cucumber salad are delicious. The pita is good but seemed a little stale. I like dill but the huge amount of dill in the basmati rice is overwhelming and too much for my tastes. It overpowers the flavor of their delicious chicken. Food was delicious and the service was immediate and attentive. Definitely catered to substitutions and was friendly and helpful. Great value with good portions of everything. I got the taza combo plate (chicken shawarma and gyro). Both meets were flavorful and juicy, the hummus was a little spicy but I loved it. All the vegetables were very fresh and the pita was soft and fluffy. We took our food to go, but it was definitely a cozy setting and would be pretty tight if you had a large party. Taza has the best Mediterranean food I've ever had! I use to work in the Merchandise Mart and come here for their Chef's sandwich a few times a week. For years (and to this day) the same employees work at the cafe and they are the nicest, friendliest employees. Pre-covid they use to always offer free samples while you waited in-line. Since covid, I have been ordering takeout and delivery. Same amazing food, I just miss the awesome staff. Unlike a lot of other Mediterranean delivery, they allow for some customization. Other places, I have tried had bland sandwiches and stale falafel, but not Taza. Order from them! You will not be disappointed. read more

Taza is awesome. I eat here nearly every week, it's a high rotation lunch joint! The food here is awesome - never had a bad meal, and the service is really friendly and nice! They recognise the regulars and always have some falafel or pita chips out for you to try. I love getting the the Turkey plate or the Taza special plate. Plus the hummus bowls are yummy too! Make sure to try the Lentil Soup too! Awesome on cold chilly Chicago winters. The plates are huge! You get rice, salad, meat, and hummus with pita bread. I never finish the whole thing. I really appreciate you guys cranking out a huge catering order for over 20 people in less than 24 hours! You guys saved my life! If you are ever in a bind and need a catering order, these guys answer their emails all the time (even on weekends when they are closed). I had a panic moment and forget to order catering for an event for my job. I emailed these guys in hopes that they would answer and sure enough they did. They were more than accommodating, called me on Easter to take my order, and processed everything on Monday morning. On top of this, they delivered very quickly, set everything up, and they even threw in some free stuff like baklava and falafel. The ambiance is unimpressive, but make no mistake, this is a terrific place. Food is fabulous. Nice variety for carnivores and herbivores alike. Shwarma, gyros, and the other traditional meat entrees are very good, as are the salads and my favorite, the veggie platter (Dolmeh, Falafel, Hummus, Tabbouleh and House salad served with pita bread and tahini sauce). I have been coming to this restaurant since it opened (near my office, so it's convenient and good) and perhaps my favorite part -- over and above the food -- is the service. Ahh, this place was a breath of fresh air in a tight corner of the loop surrounded by nothing but greasy overly processed unhealthy joints. Taza Cafe is a Mediterranean little dive in the downtown area, that's fast but not too heavy on your heart and colon. The menu options are few yet simple to order, whether it may be a sandwich or a plate, they have an array of meats to serve it with. Tried the gyro pita sandwich on my first visit. Neatly packed into the bread, filled with as many or as little veggies, spread and sauce you want, for less than $10. Easy spending in the city. Second visit I wanted to venture out a little more, I tried a type of lamb dish (the name escapes me right now) and it was a knockout. Great flavor without feeling too heavy. Guys there are very friendly too. With covid going on, you're still allowed to dine in, as well as order takeout. Honestly for the Loop, Taza is one of the best bangs for your buck, and personally I feel it needs to get more attention for all the Loop heads looking for a good lunch. This is a spot I'll remember when I need to grab some lunch, whether it's by myself or with some friends. read more

Yes yes, yum to everything! We order Taza almost once a week. It is fast, consistent, and so good. I believe a Mediterranean should be judged on their hummus, and this one is GOOD! Falafel is also a big winner. They also wrap their delivery items well, very important. The customer service is also excellent. We have never visited, but do get delivery from Postmates. We had a delivery person steal some of our food and open some of our containers once. The restaurant was so kind and helpful in making the situation right. We really appreciated it! read more

I have been going to Taza for a while now, on my lunch breaks, but did not think to write a review until I received service above and beyond the norm. What I've always loved about Taza is that their food is fresh, delicious, and much higher quality than the other fast food joints I've frequented for lunch. THE FOOD: Falafel is nice and crunchy on the outside, but super soft and moist on the inside. And when dipped in their delicious tahini sauce it's perfect!! The chicken schwarma is also delicious. You'd think that the chicken would be dried out and bland, but it's not. It is homemade and tender and tastes awesome in a pita sandwich. The tahini sauce is one of the best I've tried. I wish they'd give it out in a larger container though. I didn't have enough for the 6 falafel that I ordered, but I'm sure if I went up for more they'd have given me more. What I really want to talk about is how warm and generous the owner is (I believe that's he's the owner??). He is always saying hello, and giving free samples of falafel. He comes out from behind the kitchen and asks you if your food is OK. I always tell him it's really good! But today, after I'd finished my food and was sitting there watching YouTube videos to pass the time, he came over to me with a plate of baklava and a napkin. For FREE! Now this guy knows how to go above and beyond for his customers. I hope to spur on his business even more (not that they need it!!!) with my review because he is someone who deserves it!! read more

Huge fan of this place. I'm so glad I finally came to try it. The first thing worth mentioning is the owner was extremely nice and greeted everyone like family. Several customers came in and it was a lot of, "How's your family?" or "You're not getting the falafels today?!" kind of thing going on. I wanted the kebab combo but they recommended the daily special which also comes with a falafel for a cheaper price. The guy even asked if I wanted to try their gyro meat. Of course! Everything was really good, especially the dill rice and hummus. The kofta kebabs were my favorite but the chicken if I had to be absolutely honest, was dry. With that being said, I'm still coming back because everything else, including how genuinely nice the owners were, made my lunch even more enjoyable. They've won me over. read more

I'd say Taza was decent but certainly not the best. I enjoyed that it is genuinely a "small business" and all their employees are SUPER friendly and helpful. However, I thought the food was largely just average especially for the location it's in. Had the Taza platter that comes with chicken shawarma, gyros, hummus, dill rice, and a salad. Everything had decent flavor, but generally nothing really stood out. I'd come back maybe if I just wanted a quick fix, certainly not "bad", but decent. read more

Was craving falafel all week and I am so glad we found Taza cafe! The moment we walked in, the staff offered falafel sample and it was SO good! I think I've been seriously spoiled by NYC middle eastern. Taza was fine but nothing special. The baba ganoush was interesting - less of the smooth paste with lots of tahini version I've had a lot, and more eggplant-y and watery. Wasn't the biggest fan of this version tbh. I won't remember how cold and windy it was walking to meet Brett D. at Goodwin's on Good Friday in the long Winter of 2009, so I'll mention it here for posterity. Is the pity party over? Well, not really. Get out your tiny violins folks... after months of ships passing in the night, Goodwins was closed on Good Friday! Good grief! What next? Taza's across the street for Plan B.? I'm game! Hit by an air of fresh lemons when we walked in the door, these are some Free Smells I can get on board with! Sure enough, the food was every bit as fresh and tasty. The Falafel is the star here, and the combo will get you 6 crispy and tasty falafel balls, creamy hummus for dipping, several pitas, a cucumber salad, tahini dressing and a spicy red sauce that packed a zing! That stuff was good! And coincidentally, the next day I saw Diners, Drive-ins and Dives visiting a falafel place in California with the same red sauce! Guy Fieri did his typical big mouthed bite and Heat Miser imitation...And normally I would be salivating with envy; but I was smirking, smug even! I was sated at Taza. Plan B. is now Plan A. I could not believe the non-stop business this place gets!!!! From when I walked in to when I left after sitting and eating my meal, there was always a line! The food is good and reasonably priced. I only got the gourmet falafel but it was big and hearty! I left full but not overly stuffed. My friend ordered some combo plate. It had gyro, chicken, and rice. I had a taste of all of it and everything was wonderfully flavored. If I didnt work so far away from here I'd be a regular! Service is fast and friendly! There is VERY limited seating so be prepared to get to know your neighbor! But the turnover rate is quick so its not too difficult to get a seat. read more

First off I have to apologize for the picture that I uploaded. It does not do the gourmet falafel proper justice for how amazing it truly is. Growing up on Pita Inn I have lofty expectations for Mediterranean places. I have worked in River North for a few years and am typically disappointed by the lack of quick stop fair priced restaurants. After doing some yelpwork and craving some pita/falafel I decided that a nice walk would do me well. The place is tiny, but seems to have their process down pat. The line was flying and it was my turn to order before I even had a chance to decide. Without thinking or knowing what exactly it was I ordered the "Gourmet Falafel". It's a great price for downtown eating at $4.95. It's a pita with three falafels, hummus, Jerusalem Salad, lettuce, tomato, hot sauce, and any other fixings that you desire. I wasn't sure how the falafel would keep after a 10ish minute walk back to the office. Once I got into our break room I opened the still hot goodness and indulged. It was probably the most flavorful falafel sandwich that I have ever had. I have a lot that a love, but this one had the right amount of spice and flavor. I am fairly certain that this will be a regular stomping ground of mine. Next time I will try the lentil soup and the schwarma. read more
