My friends and I went over the summer for dinner, mostly because the patio had been calling my name for weeks. Everything was solid from the food to the service to the ambiance. Will I be back? The thing is, the West Loop has sooooo many food options. Nothing about our experience felt particularly memorable (which, in the case of bad food/service, that's a good thing!!). I wouldn't be opposed to coming back, but I also would not go out of my way to do so.

Went for happy hour. A really nice space with outdoor seating and the indoor seating has a lot of natural light. Staff was incredibly friendly and made the vibe nice and homey. We got the yaya's chips with feta, fried zucchini, greek meatballs, and chicken souvlaki. The chips were plentiful and I loved the pairing with the feta. They also drizzled them with olive oil, so there was an olive oil taste in each bite. The fried zucchini was fabulous. They were crispy and the parsley tahini sauce it came with was sooo good. Kind of tasted like a pesto and I loved it. The greek meatballs were also amazing and I loved the sauce under each meatball. For drinks, I ordered a frappe-tini which was a pretty standard espresso martini. They came around right before happy hour ended to ask if we wanted to put in one more drink/dish and I ordered a wine. I was impressed that they had two reds and two whites on happy hour and our second pour was very impressive. All in all, a very solid happy hour with good food, drinks, and vibe.

Fabulous spot for a drink while the weather is still warm and the sliding glass doors of the restaurant are open to enjoy the buzz from those walking the west Loop. And a delicious marg by the way....

The entire restaurant has a vibrant Greek theme that feels authentic and inviting -- seen on the menu. The vibe of Taverna 1821 is classy but comfortable, with service that's truly top tier across the board. Attentive staff, warm hospitality, and a menu that delivers from drinks to dishes. But if you're lucky enough to sit at the bar while David is working, you're in for something special. The food is just as impressive as the drinks, and one dish you cannot skip is the fried zucchini. Perfectly crisp, light, and addictive -- we'd go back for that alone. Highly recommend for a date night, a celebration, or just a drink that'll blow your mind. Can't wait to come back!

Checked this place out for dinner about a month ago. We made reservations to sit inside prior and we were still seated outside. It was fine because the weather was mostly good except for some drizzle. Our waiter was a bit rude - we asked him recommendations on food and drinks and he told us it really just depends on what we like to eat which didn't really help. He also told us we didn't order enough food but we ended up with so much leftovers because the food is heavy. The food was pretty good, nothing that stands out.

We came and sat on the patio and enjoyed some happy hour deals (even on the weekend!). I enjoyed the Hades cocktail, and the Athenian spritz was also tasty and refreshing. It was interesting that we were given a complimentary block of feta with tiny watermelon cubes to start. We got the fried zucchini, which was interestingly very light, thin and crispy. The meatballs were also tasty. Finally we also got the chips which were the biggest portion and only $4. What a steal! Lovely place and would like to try their dinner menu!

I have nothing but amazing things to say about Taverna 1821. Go and support this restaurant!!! We came here for a wine dinner and were blown away by the food and incredible hospitality of the entire staff. David was so incredibly welcoming and kind. The wine dinner was organized very well and you got to try so many different things. I truly enjoyed each of the wines selected. The taziki, spanakopita, fried halloumi, and lamb skaras were my favorite dishes and were all a 5/5. Will be back again to try more bites!!!

We stopped into Taverna 1821 for their happy hour and it did not disappoint. All of the staff members were very kind from when we first walked in until we left. Our server was very knowledgeable about the restaraunts offerings which was very helpful. He spoke about the shrimp ceviche on homemade pita chips that was not on the HH menu. We ordered it and it was delicious! Probably my most favorite bite! The sauce was very flavorful and decedent. We ordered an array of items, mostly from the HH menu which consisted of the YaYa's Chips, Fried Zucchini (amazing sauce), Hot Olives which came with bread, Chicken Souvlaki, Greek Meatballs. From the dinner menu we ordered the Lemon Potatoes and the Flanken Waygu Shortrib. All the HH items are extremely reasonably priced and are very tasty. The olives were alright as I found them a tad bit salty but better paired with the bread. I really enjoyed the fried zucchini as it was sliced and fried thinly and went great with the sauce. The meatballs had a great sauce to them as well. For drinks we ordered the Peach Smash Mocktail, Mastiha 75, Hades and the Athenian Spritz. All good drinks, no bad notes. All in all, I'm very pleased with this spot and I'd definitely come back. The staff and service were great, they were all kind and the person picking up our table was very efficient. All of our food was served beautifully and tasted delish. 10/10 happy hour. Be sure to check them out.

Very friendly and cute stop on Fulton! Worth a visit for something casual! All the dishes were easy to eat and tasty - unique enough to be different than usual Greek dishes but nothing mind blowing. The exec chef stopped by our table and provided some lamb cooked especially for visiting pups - so she loved it! The drinks were good and I'd be interested to come back to try one or two more dishes. Service was a little slow but we didn't necessarily mind it for our dinner since we were busy chatting.

Tyrokafteri was a tangy and mildly spicy dip. It tasted great with the wood fired village bread.

The food was good, authentic Greek food, but the portions were small for the price. It's a cute spot with extensive vegetarian options, which is always a plus. The service was good, but the restaurant was very hot and I felt like I wasn't able to enjoy the meal as much because of the lack of temperature regulation. Overall, it was a pretty good experience.

Aba Restaurant review -- Fulton Market, Chicago…read more This was my husband and I first time visiting Aba Restaurant, and we left impressed on every count. From the moment we arrived, the service stood out. We had an 8 PM reservation, but since we were in the area early, Chris B. kindly accommodated us for an earlier seating. We settled on the rooftop deck, which set the mood with a vibrant, buzzy vibe. The service was outstanding throughout. Our waiter greeted us promptly, with a trainee at the table. (My apologies for forgetting their names). Both were exceptionally pleasant. The trainee did a superb job walking us through the menu, explaining the concept of ordering. We decided on a variety of dishes, and Aba delivered: - Wild Mushroom Hummus: A smooth earthy dish with roasted mushrooms folded into a creamy hummus, finished with truffle oil and herbs. Yummy! - Tuna & Watermelon: A refreshing pairing of tender tuna balanced with juicy watermelon, cucumber, pomergrant seeds and mint. Loved it! - Green Chili Shrimp: Served in a metal dish used for escargo. The shrimp were covered by breadcrumbs and lots of butter with a slight kick to it. Great for dipping your bread in. It did not disappoint! - Pan Seared Halibut: A perfectly seared, delicate fillet, moist and flaky that highlighted the fish's clean, buttery profile. And from the cocktail menu, the Aloe? It's Me. It has a kick to it. Loved it too. Everything was excellent--the food was inventive and delicious, the service was great and the rooftop ambiance added a memorable layer to the evening. Highly recommended for a refined yet relaxed Chicago dining experience.

I highly recommend getting the crispy potatoes as well! I have never tried shakshouka with meat in it before and didn't love the texture. However, the flavor was sweet and savory! The only thing that was not ideal was that an optional surcharge was on the receipt, when we tried to get our server to help remove it per instructions on the receipt no one was to be found. That was disappointing and potentially strategic? I would have rather just tipped. I'm not sure how others feel about the surcharge?

My friends and I started the evening with champagne and the Mezze Collection, which is an assortment of spreads and pita. I've had this before at brunch, and it is a REQUIREMENT at Andros. We then ordered a salad, mussels, lamb shoulder, and the whole fish (Andros style) to share. Several of the items were on their specials menu for the night, and they were all to die for. The fish was prepared and deboned at the table, which took out all the stress and work! I can't wait to come back for another dinner experience!

This place has been on my list for a very long time and we got in for a Valentine's Day…read morereservation. I was really excited about the limited menu because I wanted the shredded lamb shoulder. Our reservation was at 5:30... About as early as you can get for dinner and yet they were already sold out of the special so that was really disappointing that they would be so unprepared for one of the most popular dinner date holidays of the year... Alternatively, we went with a bunch of appetizers and split two entrées. Somewhere delicious somewhere very mid and somewhere a let down. Here's the breakdown: - Fried zucchini chips 5/5 - one of my favs in the city - Octopus 2/5 - one of my least favs in the city... it lacked flavor, was a small portion for the price and had a gooey string that grossed us both out - Fish spread that started with an M... haha 5/5 - I can't remember the name, but this was delicious! It was definitely pricey for the portion though especially because it didn't include pita... We had to pay an additional seven dollars for two pieces of pita, which was ridiculous - Oysters - 4/5 - husband enjoyed - Katifi cheese pie 4/5 - very tasty! Sweet and pricey but worth it - On special - fried fish- 2/5 - the waitress described these as small bite-size fish, but that is not how they came out and instead, it was really difficult to debone them and you hardly got any meat out of it. The flavor wasn't bad, but the experience was disappointing. I will say that they comped these after our feedback. - Gyros - 2.5/5 - it's not that these were bad per se... But I've had way better in the city to include fast, casual restaurants, and the price for the portion was pretty ridiculous again. Hardly any accoutrements. - Rockfish with pistachio brown butter - 5/5 - I believe this fish was on special and she described it as being a sweeter fish. They did come to the table and cut it for you so it was a lot easier to eat. The fish was cooked perfectly and had a sweet flavor. I also liked that you could choose your own dressing because the brown butter pistachio was delicious. - baklava froyo 3/5 - i'll bump this up to three because my husband liked it more than I did, but I was very disappointed by this dessert. The Greek yogurt was sour as to be expected, but instead of having actual baklava or pistachio flavor to balance it out, it basically just tasted like they dumped simple syrup on it and it was like a sour ice cream with just pure sugar drizzle... It really didn't come together for me. Overall, the service was really good and our waiter was very sweet. Also, our wine was delicious and the zucchini chips and fish spread were good, so maybe we would come for appetizers and drinks, but I definitely wouldn't return for a Greek dinner with the other options we have in the city.

It's pretty cool that although the restaurant doesn't serve alcohol, staff from the adjacent bar came around every so often and took orders. For appetizers, we started with the feta and olive appetizers. They were good, but I'd probably order something a little more unique next time. I opted for the chicken kalamata dinner for the main event, which came with more french bread and a salad. The salad came out first, and it was pretty simple with minimal dressing. I wished there had been more variety in produce and something besides iceberg lettuce for greens. I'd recommend getting some feta on the side to add some flavor. The chicken, however, was absolutely outstanding. It was super tender, seasoned beautifully with za'atar, and brined in vinegar (I think). The za'atar seasoned french fries underneath were extra crispy and perfectly soaked up the extra sauce from the chicken.
