After reading all the reviews, I HAD to try out Taza. And I was... disappointed. I tried the Gormet Falafel Pita and it honestly was dry and not mind blowing. I don't think I'll go back, especially since Naf Naf has impressed me more. (I literally bought a falafel pita at both places... And NafNaf won me over.) So, be a bit cautious. First time a Taza today. Had the chicken kabob combo special. It comes with rice and hummus which I really liked. Very filling! Service was great. The guy in charge (owner maybe) was super nice and attentive, he approached our table and gave my friend and I some baklava to try. I thought that was very nice. I'd like to give them another star, I mean, they were reasonably nice, definitely prompt and the restaurant was in overall decent condition. HOWEVER, the food....not terrible but DEFINITELY in the "meh, i've experienced better" category. I was initially gonna go to Naf Naf around the corner but man, the line was long and getting longer. I figured 'Taza is Mediterranean, I'll just go there.' But no. So the food - I got the chicken shawarma as I wanted something light but with protein. I was kinda excited as chicken shawarma is usually pretty tasty and I'm trying to cut down on meat consumption. The sandwich was bland though. The hummus hardly had an ounce of flavor, the chicken was 'nothing' flavor and even the ....what do you call it? the green stuff...all quite bland and flavorless. The falafel was...aeh. No tahini on the side though. All in all, I don't plan on returning. I'll either take Naf Naf's line or just go to some standard restaurant where at least you know you get your money's worth. *That too - not a lot of food considering the price. read more

Fresh homemade falafel, best in the loop!! i had a delux falafel sandwich whcih comes with hummus tomato cucumber and tahini on pits....there was hardly any hummus but it didnt matter since the falafel was fantastic and the splash of hot sauce added a delish flavor to the sandwich. However next time i will order a separate order of hummus to see how good it is since it was hard to get a taste of it in the delux sandich....i also had a lentil soup which is fat free and super super good, lots of interestig spices in it and a flavorful and exotic taste to it! go early as lines get very long at noon read more

Love it! I usually go after the lunch rush, around 2pm. The staff is the best in the loop. I eat here at least once a week. My favs are the chicken shwarma and hummus app (with a few falafel balls added for good measure) and the falafel and hummus sandwich. The "meals" with rice and salad are ho-hum. I called to order lunch for me and 2 coworkers yesterday after reading good reviews in Menu Pages and seeing that they deliver. I was craving a good chicken shwarma sandwich and trying to find somewhere good that wasn't too expensive. When I called to place the order I was told that they were VERY sorry but they don't deliver small orders, only catering. He was very apologetic saying he didn't have a driver. I hung up disappointed. After some thought I decided to call back and just go pick up the order instead and I am so glad I did. I called back to place the order and then when I arrived to pick it up the owner (?) was again so apologetic that he couldn't deliver. He actually remembered it was me who had called and for some reason knew who I was when I came in to pick it up! He then gave us some bonuses to our order, some sample falafels, some sample hummus and extra hot sauce. All delicious, as well as my friend's schwarma salad, my chicken shwarma sandwich and my co workers falafel sandwich and Jerusalem salad. I actually heard her say "Man this is so f#@*ing good!!" in the next cube and she's pretty discriminating. From now on, on those slow days when I can jump in the car to get over that way for lunch I will be coming back. A convert for LIFE! read more

I love falafel, and when I learned of another place in the Loop that got great reviews, I knew I had to try it. I have to admit that the falafel was phenomenal--one of the best I've had, but I was a bit dismayed when the guy who made my sandwich didn't use gloves. Excellent food and extremely great service from the owner. As many other reviewers have pointed out, he goes out of his way to make sure you are pleased with your food and to give you a taste of something if you're unsure what you'd like. I love the service at this place! It's about a 3.5 block walk for me, so I don't go there as often in the winter. Every time I go there I am reminded of what I'm missing when I go to another (closer) place as a substitute. To be very objective, I will agree that it could use a little remodeling and a better solution to keeping out the cold air. Keep up the great work!! read more

I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to Arab food - Taza NEVER disappoints! Their gormet falafel sandwich and kefta sandwich are both amazing and their lentil soup with lemon makes you want to really settle down and never look at another lentil soup again. I tried the grape leaves and have to say they are the best I've ever had. The owner is really sweet and always hands out free samples of fresh falafel. Absolutely delicious. I've been here twice. I've gotten a chicken schawarma sandwich the first time and a gyro sandwich the second time. Both pitas were huge and stuffed to the limit... it's definitely great value for the price. Falafels are solid as well and are only 60cents each. Went here for lunch because we were tired of the same old spots me and my coworkers usually go to. Stumbled upon this hidden gem online and decided to try something different for a change. AMAZING! Everyone here is super friendly and the food is delicious. I had the lunch special which comes with the Jerusalem Salad, hummus, pita bread, basmati, falafel and your choice of two meats. I chose the chicken shawerma and the kifta kabab. Everything was very flavorful. Afterwards, they let us sample their baklava which is also very tasty. I would recommend this place to anyone. Quite a decent little lunch spot where you can get a lot of food for a fairly good price. I always have the special which is 2 meats, rice and lentils, hummus veggies and pita bread and end up having left overs for dinner or the next day. Surprised it's not more packed at lunch time. I had been craving some good middle-eastern food and I was thrilled to find this place on yelp! I was quickly greeted by the owner. They had samples of falafel balls awaiting the customers, which definitely lived up to its expectations! Perfectly spiced with moist and soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside! (mind out of gutter) The ingredients looked fresh and freshly prepared. The chicken salad with sharwarma and chicken taza was perfectly spiced. I just visited Taza today (drove there all the way from Rockford - 80miles) and I have to say it is outstanding! The Jerusalem salad was fantastic - and I'm not even a salad fan. The Chicken Shawarma Sandwich was my choice and it did not let me down! I went there for lunch yesterday. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere (you pay $8 for a sandwich combo and you shouldn't expect much in that area!) I got the Chicken Shwarma sandwich in a meal with two falafel balls and a fountain drink. The falafel was REALLY good, crunchy as it should be with the right type and amount of spices. but then the sandwich left me asking for more. The pita needed some toasting or something to absorb some of the salad's sogginess. For the last couple of bites, the bread was mushy and really hard to deal with. The chicken was very disappointing, NOTHING like what chicken shwarma should taste like. It was pre-prepared and sitting in a bowl instead of being shaved-to-order from the roasting stick. THEN I don't know if it was the falafel or the chicken or just the restaurants general hygiene level, but something didn't sit well and I had an interesting night with a lot of trips to the bathroom, if you know what I mean. He was very kind and ask how the food was. I'm not sure if the place usually has music playing, but when I came in it didn't.
