I have had really bad dental experiences in the past, and going to Dr. Goodman has been so positive and wonderful. I always feel comfortable at her office, the office staff (dental hygienist to front desk) is fantastic- very kind, patient. Dr. Goodman explains everything very well, takes it slow, and makes sure her patients are comfortable. She doesn't push any unnecessary services and she takes the time to answer your questions. I have seen Dr. Lee on and off for the last 8 years or so. He's done great work for my teeth and had other strategies to help prevent me from needing a root canal. Recently I came in for some fillings and I told the receptionist that I am on a strict budget and I cannot afford more $1k. And she assured me that it would less than $300 and I signed off on the work to be done. Then to my surprised I'm slapped with a $1,400 bill and when I spoke with Joyce she didn't try to help me at all to reconcile the difference. Joyce just told me that I have to pay up or else she would send me to collections and that I would no longer be seen by Dr. Lee again. I understand that I have to pay for service rendered but there's a huge differences in what I was told the cost would be and what the actual cost on my bill. read more

My mother is a former patient of the previous practice and lost her dentures last weekend. I reached out today in a panic, not expecting much, to get my mothers dental records as she hasnt been there in at least 6 or 7 years. What were the chances that the new practice (Dr Lee) had her records and went above and beyond to assist me during a crisis? Maria was the dental assistant who answered my call. She not only located my 84 year old moms xrays from a decade ago but was patient enough to give me advice on how to proceed, even offereing to copy and scan and email the records. Great customer service is rare today, to top it off I can tell from her conversation they are very thorough in their dental care. I don't know who gave them their five and four star ratings but what a joke. This facility is not ADA accessible, and the staff does not help those who are wheelchair-bound. In fact, they told me that they would have the doctor come downstairs to see the patient who is now seated in the in chair lift on the staircase because they refused to carry the wheelchair although on three previous appointments, they accommodated him by carrying up his travel wheelchair. Horrible disconnect with the patients. Poor excuse for discourtesy to seniors. Don't go to this location. read more

I am pleased to say that Dr. Jolie Goodman-Leibof has fit that need. I still got some work to do, but feel confident in her professional skills and overall warmth as a Dentist. I liked my dentist in the city, but she took maternity leave and let a bunch of young associates run her place. The associates (read: baby dentists) are young, friendly, attractive... and have no idea what they're doing. One of them did my filling and now my gums are extremely sensitive to hot and cold temperatures. Baby dentist could not figure it out. Meanwhile, I was freaking out. I'm not an old woman and I take care of my teeth; this baby dentist came along and fucked up my gums. Baby dentist suggested that I see a specialist as I might now need a root canal. What the fuck? Do you know anything? She gave me a Kanye shrug. Would this special consultation cost me anything? More shrugging. I searched on Yelp and sought out Dr. Lee's help. He was able to immediately pinpoint the problem--pulpitis. He recommended that I use Sensodyne toothpaste and provided a lot more information about the problem. This comforted me to no end (and this was a drastically different response than "you may need a root canal, here's a specialist's number, I need to go back to my pacifier"). I did as he said, and when my regular dentist in the city came back briefly from maternity leave, she was able to diagnose it after some tests. Indeed, it was pulpitis. But I had to wait months for her while Dr. Lee saw me right away. All the reviews are true. Dr. Lee does it all himself. No baby dentist here. He's not perpetually missing from the office, like some too-popular dentists are. He has experience and excellent judgment... I would recommend him to anyone. read more

I hadn't been to a dentist in a looong time and was worried my teeth were in really bad shape. My first visit was spent getting so many X-rays, scans, pictures, etc. The staff is super nice, patient, and takes the time to explain everything about insurance. I was taken in early on two visits, and did wait on the last one about 20 minutes. But that's not long and well worth the wait for quality service. Dr. Lee did such a great job getting my teeth all cleaned and fixed, that I couldn't stop looking at my teeth in the mirror haha Dr. Lee is knowledgeable and takes the time to explain everything he's recommending, as well as everything he's doing during a procedure. He also regularly checks in about pain during a procedure to make sure everything is going ok. What a great experience! read more

Best dental visit! I am a new patient of Dr Goodman and I was impressed. I am not the best flosser, but my cleaning was almost painless yet very thorough. This after I hadn't had a cleaning in years! I was really afraid to go back to the dentist. I left my former dentist feeling like a Halloween prank. I was bloody (even on my face) and crying and later found out my gums were damaged. But today, Dr. Goodman listened to my fears and told me what she was doing as she did it. She also explained that a tooth I thought was stained actually just had a tarnished sliver filling. Other dentists have tried to get me to get whitening for it! I recommend TLD all the nervous patients out there. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Brodke whose practice this was for almost 30 years and as always, when someone one trusts and has confidence in leaves in these situation one hopes for the best. I have had some serious dental work since and have received nothing but great treatment from Dr Lee and the one time I visited Dr. Goodman. Dr. Lee has been courteous, and friendly and as far as I can tell so far done a great job on my teeth. The only reason I give four stars instead of five is my limited visits since the change. I anticipate adding another star in the future. The office staff I have known for years and cannot say enough about them. I am not keen on having to visit the dentist no matter how good they are but the staff at TDL Dental Group are almost like family to me, plus, they laugh at my jokes. Like I said, it took multiple appointments before I gave up and just had you put the tooth in. What was shocking is that you were fine putting the tooth on the first time even though it looked ridiculous. You never offered the option of going to a lab to have it professionally done. Instead you pulled the teeth choices and just held it up to my tooth. Quality was definitely not your concern. You were lazy and sub par. I will never return!!!!! I got a deep cleaning from Claudia recently, & she did a great job removing plaque around my teeth. Sincere, honest and detail oriented dentist. I totally go out of my way to see Dr Lee because I know he is a professional dentist that I can trust. I actually live in Santa Clara, work in San Mateo, but will drive out to Oakland because I feel that he's worth it! I switched to Dr. Lee a few months ago because my previous dentists were giving me a lot of pressure on getting "work" done, and it made me feel like I was just a potential sales target for him. My last dentist tried to get my teeth whiten, and put braces on me, and do deep cleans all the time, on basis such as "oh you are in sales, and with whiter, straighter teeth, you will have a better smile for your clients." Or stuff like, "you know the ladies like straight, cleaned teeth right??" Those aren't even legit health concerns to get work done on teeth. The other time, one of the dentists tried to get me to do a root canal and said he spread out the treatments over two years so the insurance can cover it... when all I actually needed was just a filling. At Dr. Lee's, I didn't get any of that pressure. He told me the condition of my teeth, and gave me guidance on how to treat it. Explained to me that I didn't need any deep cleaning, but that I should floss daily and use mouth wash, otherwise I am increasing the chances of gum diseases. In which case, I would need deep clean then. Also, he really gave me my time's worth and went cleaning one tooth at a time when I was getting my teeth cleaned, vs. just having an assistant going over it in a couple of minutes and kicked me out the office. When I had an accident and chipped my tooth, he was flexible and gave me a priority scheduling to see me the next day. I couldn't have been more glad that he took care of me as a patient and for my good health, vs just another paying customer in some random business. Highly recommend! read more

I HATE going to the dentist... and when I mean hate, I went YEARS between dentist visits because I hated everything regarding dental work. Now Dr. Lee has got to be the best dentists around. He constantly checks to make sure you're comfortable, reassures you that "you're doing great" and explains every step of whatever procedure he's performing (no matter how small it is). And a big plus is that he doesn't chastise you or belittle you for your lack in keeping your teeth maintained. I was brushing and flossing well, but I didn't realize that I was partially missing my gums near my front teeth. Dr. Lee just mentioned what he noticed and just kindly reminded me to try to remember brushing my gums. A kind and very informative dentist? Yes and yes. The building he works in is a little sketchy, but rest assured, him and his staff are worth the creepy hallway. read more

My 1st visit to Dr. Lee was in April this year. I left my previous dentist (whom I loved, but no longer accepted my insurance) to try Dr. Lee since he accepted my insurance. My first visit went pretty well. I really enjoyed my dental hygienist, Anna. I came back again for preventative fillings and to fix a chipped tooth. My bill came out to more than 50% than his original estimate due to having to fill deeper pockets than he expected. And I wasn't entirely satisfied with the repair to my chipped tooth, but I understood from my previous dentist that it was tricky repair in any case. But I liked Dr. Lee and Anna well enough, so I thought I'd continue to see them. So, I came in a couple weeks ago for a cleaning. In the meantime, Dr. Lee had merged his practice with another dentist across the street. So unfortunately, I did not have an appointment with Anna as I expected, but instead with a hygienist from the new practice. She was 30 minutes late and spent most of my appointment blaming her tardiness on the new staff's scheduling error. But Dr. Lee confirmed that it was not the staff's error, but she was just running really late. My appointment felt rushed and my parting gift was a line from the receptionist...something about me having a past due amount from my appointment in April. But someone was supposed to call me the next day. Of course, no one called me, so I thought it was straightened out. So, I came back yesterday (Oct. 22nd) for a filling in a cavity discovered during my cleaning. To my chagrin, I was immediately pulled aside to speak with the accounting manager who informed me of a $275 balance. I won't even go into the details, but suffice it to say that the issue was due to poor accounting on Dr. Lee's staff's part. And through this discussion, I learned that since the merge, he dropped my insurance! This had nothing to do with the past due balance since he carried my insurance at the time of my appointments. BUT, they would've charged me the out-of-network rate had I kept yesterday's appointment. SO I canceled everything, got a copy of my x-rays and went home to start writing this review. Why they neglected to notify any patients about the change in coverage is beyond me. Why I never heard from anyone about a past due balance for 6 months, only to be blind-sided in-person at my appointment is beyond me. Why they had me take a day off to come all the way down to the office to discover their accounting incompetence and lack of coverage of my insurance is beyond me. Mostly I'm frustrated because it's really hard for me to find time to get to the dentist and I feel like my entire experience with Dr. Lee this year was a waste of stress, time, and money. Dr. Lee, this is your good name on the line! Get it together!! Back to the drawing board...best of luck to you all. read more

I've been going to this office for 20 years. The dental staff is newer than that but the dentist have been universally excellent. Dr. Jolie Goodman-Leibof has been my dentist for the last couple years and has been a gentle and extremely competent doctor for checkups, filling replacement and a crown. She has handled my children (ahe 12-22 yo) wonderfully, keeping them very happy to go to their checkups. Ok, maybe not HAPPY, but never worried before or unhappy afterwards. Though the office is a bit dated their exam rooms and equipment are quite up to date. The office staff is lovely to work with, convenient scheduling and complete explanation of estimated charges make it easy to handle business there. I was especially impressed when Doctor Lee suggested I be checked for sleep apnea based on the wear pattern on my teeth (and turns out he was right). TDL dental group delivers very competent, convenient, and courteous service; strongly recommend. read more

I went to Dr. Lee last week, after waking up that Sunday with the most excruciating wisdom tooth pain I have ever felt. I called him that Monday and he saw me on Sunday. He was conscientious enough to forego all of the usual "getting to know the patient" rituals and get right to the job I needed done - to get that tooth out of my mouth. We agreed we will go through the other part at a later date - but I was so happy to find a dentist that put my emergency first - most would have a patient waiting a week or so until they would actually do something - but not Dr. Lee - he went right to it! It was a difficult removal, because my wisdom tooth had two of the worst features a tooth can have that affects pulling it out. That sucker was holding on for dear life!The procedure took almost three hours - but Dr. Lee was determined to get the job done. At some point we all had to take a break, and I had to be numbed up several times - but eventually the task was complete. From what I see, Dr. lee is a very dedicated and professional dentist. he is honest and caring for his patients - I'm glad to have finally found a real dentist (if you read my other posts about Dentistry 2000 and a Dr. Fudgen you would see why). Best of all, he is in-network with my dental plan and the procedure only cost me 29.00 out of pocket. He didn't charge me extra for the two additional numbings - which my past dentist did, and he called me later to see how I am doing. I'd recommend him to anybody looking for a new dentist. EDIT: I took to stars because he totally blew my wife off, who needed critical work. Maybe he quit extractions after our 3 hour adventure - but he was very rude to her and told her to go somewhere else - and then he gave her a referral to a "specialist" that he had to know was out of network to our plan. Sounds like someone needs to back off the happy gas machine and revisit customer service... read more

My invisalign has been going well and the gap is unnoticeable now! In the meanwhile, I went to get my first cleaning - I didn't know what I was missing out on. My previous dentist had not been using one of these ultrasonic cleaners that Dr. Lee's office uses. After my cleaning, my teeth felt smoother than they have ever felt before and the cleaning took half as long :) amazing! Also, most importantly, Dr. Lee is one of the few dentists that I've been to who actually checks your tongue and whole mouth for any sketchy looking bumbs, sores, etc. I had been having redness on my lower gums for months and I had seen my regular Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor about it, but he had said I had just burned myself. I thought it was weird because I don't remember drinking anything too warm. Dr. Lee noticed the redness without me pointing it out and was actually able to properly diagnose me with Lichen Planus (an inflammatory disease). He said that it's nothing to worry about and that we would just need to monitor it at my cleanings. I really appreciate Dr. Lee for being so thorough and for being able to diagnose something that my ENT missed. Thank you Dr. Lee! I am one of those people who is obnoxiously resistant to anesthesia, opiates and barbiturates so it may be understandable that I have always, always, always dreaded going to the dentist. No numbing or pain relief for me! This is precisely why I try to take excellent care of my teeth and mouth (all the kissin' I like to do is another part). Upon my return to California and the start of my new job (YAY, dental insurance!), I was desperate for a dentist as I'd started having some pain in a tooth. I saw the overwhelmingly great Yelps for Dr. Lee and thought I would give him a whirl. The first visit was pretty okay, a consultation, some x-rays, and a plan of attack. I have great dental, but my out of pocket was still expected to be about $200; nothing I can blame him for, really. Dr. Lee was really compassionate and kind, and I felt completely comfortable in his hands. He was frank, direct and understanding. His assistant, Christina, is a total sweetheart. The lady at the front desk who I forgot her name (sorry!) was super friendly too. All in all, it seems an office full of very caring and nice folks. The second visit progressed as I expected it to at first because my body laughs at lidocaine and pats it on the head like a silly puppy, rather than cooperating and going numb. So, y'know, when Dr. Lee started up with the drill, it frigging hurt! I sucked it up for a while because I am used to this sort of experience, but when Dr. Lee saw I was actually in pain rather than being a wimp, he stopped, loaded up a different and scary-looking syringe and injected me liberally with sweet, icy nothingness. For the first time IN MY LIFE, a dentist was able to actually numb my mouth, not just lessen the agony from having a tooth drilled into. Septocaine is my new third best friend. WHY do other dentists not use this stuff?! The rest of the work went by with me blissfully unconcerned, with Dr. Lee patiently explaining every single thing he was doing and seeing. Before too long, I went on my merry way to work, drooling and sounding like Stallone and Ozzy's lovechild. As my mouth woke up, however, I realized that with as numb as I was, I could not detect that my bite was off, because of the filling material; my back teeth could not close properly, whoops. I called the office, Christina shoe-horned me in immediately, and ten minutes after that visit, Dr. Lee was once again stripping off his gloves and shaking my hand. I have already strongly recommended this guy to a coworker, and I would not hesitate to send anyone else to see him. He took good care of me, and I am really grateful for it. tl;dr: Do not let the creepy hallway or sketchy-looking building deter you; this guy is a GOD when it comes to dentistry, especially for finicky cases. read more

I've been going here for years. I was so nervous when the new dentists took over. To my relief Dr. Lee and Goodman are both great. No matter how busy they get they both take the time to explain your care options. Pam and Joy are rare rays of sunshine. They are always very helpful and have helped me more than once with a scheduling conflicts. Our kids are now in college in different cities but they trust/love TDL so much they schedule their appointments for when they are home. My husband and I both have been seeing Dr. Lee for about 3 years now. He's super friendly, explains his procedures well and stays open late sometimes to accommodate working folks. In addition to the basic check ups and cleanings, I had a crown put on a dead tooth (right in front!). This had 3 benefits: 1) a stronger tooth than the dead one, 2) a whiter smile since he replaced the yellowed dead tooth with a nice, well-matching one and 3) a straighter smile since we made the crown fit the space perfectly, unlike my crooked old tooth. When the crown first arrived and we put it in, I didn't think the color was a close enough match and Dr. Lee sent it back and had it remade to specs. Just had my second visit with Dr. Lee and his wonderful hygienist Anna. I wanted to wait to write a review until I had gone at least twice to make sure there was consistency in care. My first appointment 6 months ago was with Dr. Lee and he did a very thorough cleaning and exam. I had some sensitivity issues which he addressed with a paste that he applied to my teeth after the cleaning. It took some time to work, but my sensitivity issue resolved and has not come back at all. It was well worth the $20 I spent for it. Dr. Lee is very friendly and makes me feel at ease. Today I saw Anna who is one of his dental hygienists. She had taken the time to look through my chart and asked me if I still had sensitivity in my teeth. I told her it had resolved and she didn't try to hard sell me on getting the paste again. She just let me know that it's available if I want to get it again. She did a very thorough job, explained everything well, and gave me some good tips. This is probably the 10th dentist I've been to in my life and is easily the best I've seen. I was referred by a friend to get my teeth cleaned by Dr. Lee. I am ALWAYS very nervous about going to the dentist in fears of having to get anything drilled! Sadly, Dr. Lee found a cavity but he filled it quickly and painlessly. Dr. Lee used a very good technique when injecting the Novocain (the most painful part of a cavity!) and I felt no pain - his assistant also calmed my nerves throughout the process! Dr. Lee also took the time to answer all of my questions regarding future treatments including cosmetic procedures. I really liked that he did not push to sell me any of these treatments. He is personable, professional and honest! I will definitely be back in 6 months for another cleaning! read more

For me going to the dentist is like being told I need to regularly eat a shit sandwich FOR MY HEALTH! And then the sandwich maker, the one feeding you a shit sandwich, is heavy handed and not particularly nice. I think it's because I have sensory issues. Having my nails filed for manicures and pedicures makes me nauseous, so you can imagine what drilling, scratching, and scraping on teeth feels like for me. So I'll say that the Dr. Lee experience is the best shit sandwich I've had. They have this nifty sonic powered tartar remover, so it majorly cuts down on the need for scratching and scraping with those metal tools. The hygienist even put a topical on the gums around my lower permanent retainer before getting after the tartar build up there, just in case it became uncomfortable. Their drill is electric instead of mechanical, or so he said, whatever that means. It means for me that the sound and the vibrations are far, far less grating than previous experiences with getting fillings. Even the x-ray experience was better. I have a weird, narrow lower jaw so having the x-ray film in my mouth usually leaves nicks and cuts. They had a nice foam pad for the film to protect my inner jaw. They have all the latest tech knick knacks that make the experience faster and more comfortable. They are liberal with the anesthetics, they'll give you ear plugs for noise reduction, and glasses to block the lights they shine on your face. All in all, I'll keep getting my healthy shit sandwiches made here. read more

I'm always a little skeptical about going to the dentist. I had a pretty bad experience last time, which was about two years ago. I decided to see Dr. Timothy Lee because of his yelp reviews, and I'm glad I did. The last time I went to the dentist they were unable to fully numb me. I don't know if it was because of placement or the amount injected, but I had to tell the doctor over and over that I could still feel the drilling. I told Dr. Lee that I may be hard to numb because of my previous experience. He understood and he numbed me up good! I will admit that the process of numbing was painful, but he got right to the nerve and I was completely numb throughout the replacement of 3 older filings (previous dentist didn't do a great job, and cavities were growing under the filing). His workmanship was wonderful! For the first time after leaving a dentists office I haven't needed to return to have the fillings drilled down because of an awkward bite. He was fast and efficient and I love the high-tech mouthguard that held my mouth open for me while he was working! I opted to purchase the whitening kit and they took a mold of my mouth after my filings were completed. My only complaint is that on just a few teeth, the plastic mold doesn't completely cover the tooth to the gum line. I just got the kit so I'm waiting to see how much of an impact it will make on my already semi white teeth. Overall, I would definitely recommend seeing Dr. Lee! P.S. Yes, the in-office waiting room decor is out dated, but I tell you...it's well worth overlooking....he's an amazing dentist! read more

Great place! They know what they're doing. Employees go extra mile in a pleasant and relaxing way. Staff are attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. I had an extraction and implant completed at their office. Dr. Goodman is amazing. She took time to educate me regarding the work. She explained everything, before, during, and after the procedure. I was very impressed. She did a remarkable job placing my implant. We had to schedule an emergency appointment for my son. Dr. Lee is an expert. My son had four wisdom teeth taken out in a short time and without any discomfort. Much kudos to everyone! I'll be going there for all my future procedures. read more

Absolutely awesome. Just moved up to the bay, and in need of a good dentist. Was referred to Timothy Lee by his sister who actually was my dentist down south. Dear People: Kindly cancel my two upcoming appointment: /15 and 3/8. I will not be making another appointment, nor will I be recommending your offices to anyone. Hoping you might be interested in knowing why I am doing this. 1) RUDE BEHAVIOR on the pt of Tim-was the first afternoon appointment on 2/5. Waited in waiting room for nearly a half hr. When Dr. Tim Lee came in to see me, he did not utter one word of an apology. 2) OVERCHARGING AND POOR COMMUNICATION. I came in for a "look see on a potential problem," nearly a year ago. It was immediately after (not more than 3 weeks) a complete check up by long-time dentist who is located in another county. Was quoted one price by your office for the visit on the phone, then it was very unexpectedly jacked-up after the visit. I was not told that if the visit went longer, I'd be charged more, which is bad business. I was also surprised to learn that I now had number of cavities that "needed filling." Furthermore, was promised some additional comments by Dr. Lee on an important xray, done before the aforementioned visit that was and relative to the aforementioned appointment, but never received them. Even "Sorry, I have nothing else to say," would have been appreciated. 3) LACK OF KNOWLEDGE AND OVERCHARGING. Came in last week for an evaluation on a tooth on which the crown that I accidentally swallowed when ill with flu in mid-January). Tim deemed that I needed much, much more work, than I have since been told by 2 other dentists, needed doing. FYI his price for the work is nearly $600. more than what I have since been quoted. After writing this review Dr. Lee contacted me stating that the price quoted was for the crown and a filling. I have the price quote in front of me and no filling is noted. I find it sad and most telling that Dr. Lee, rather than seeing the veracity in my post, is extremely defensive. I was riding BART and very aware to the time it took to get to the office on time and then back to BART-thus my full evaluation stands. Wishing these people the best--they need it! read more

I love my dentist. I've always had very positive experiences at TDL Dental. All the staff is so nice and a pleasure to interact with. They send convenient reminders for appointments and are also located in a convenient location. Unlike other dentists I've had in the past, they don't shame me for dental issues, but are actually supportive and motivating in a positive way. I always leave each appointment with more dental knowledge than I arrived with. Highly recommend! read more

I've been going this dental office for 40 years. I've retired many dentist there but I keep going because they all have been great. They work seamlessly with my Delta Dental plan. They are dedicated to their work and their patients. You do have to pay the parking meters but I always find a spot and it's a small price to pay for excellent and fair priced dental care read more
